Rate this book

I liked the previous book a lot, this one I read mostly because of Hei Hei – coolest pet ever, and not to lose connection to the previous MCs and the next ones; and well, also because of Hei Hei ;-)

I don't like 2nd chances, sooo NOT my coppa, but still I tried to find good sides in this story.
1. Hei Hei – absolutely amazing chicken ever, who hated male protagonist. Yes! Good character judge my Hei Hei, well done!
2. ….
3. ….
4. Hei Hei and Charlie the stray dog
5. ….
6. ….
7. Heroine’s sister Harper – can’t wait to read her story.

The book begins with a wise quote by Mahatma Gandhi:
"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
Some may agree, some may disagree. And I won’t contradict.
But is the forgiveness automatically acceptance??! You may forgive, but it doesn’t mean you must accept this person in your life again. My opinion.

The heroine was a good woman, and she definitely deserved better.
The hero was lame. Just lame. I don’t deny he loved her, but he lived 8 years without her and if not for the twist of still valid marriage, he would have enjoyed his life without her for many years more.

I didn’t feel their connection, I wish she met a decent man and moved on with her life.
I skipped all sex-scenes, and it’s smth I don’t do often *lol* He commanded her body. Yeah, cool, well, hmm.

Well written, some sweet moments, not enough epilogue and NO indication, who will be Harper’s partner. Ugh!

Safety: both not celibate during separation. Both! Yes, she was NOT celibate - great! ;-)

Looking forward to the next book. Please not a 2nd chance, pretty please!!!

OUT NOW!

Ten years ago they ran away together to Hollywood to chase their dreams. The same dreams that kept them apart for eight long years. Ophelia’s dream didn’t work out but Kyle’s did. So she came back home without so much as a goodbye and started running her mother’s B&B. And now he’s back, asking for a second chance.

So this is the kind of second chance romance that you can’t just not love. Believe me, you can try your hardest, you won’t dislike A Brand New Ending.

A BRAND NEW ENDING (Stay #2) by Jennifer Probst is a second chance contemporary love story that could not be more perfect! I gave the first book in the Stay series, “The Start of Something New” 5 stars and I want to give this book even MORE! Jennifer Probst has now become a “Must Buy” romance author for me.

After high school, Ophelia Bishop and Kyle Kimpton knew they are meant to be together forever and they have big dreams. Ophelia wants to become a famous singer and Kyle wants to become a famous screenwriter. They take off together for Hollywood. As dreams begin to come true, not everything is the way they thought it would be. Ophelia returns home to run the family B&B and Kyle returns to their Hollywood apartment to find her gone.

Ten years have passed and Kyle feels he has to return to his hometown to write his current screenplay. He has built his fame and reputation on action films, but this project takes him in a new direction. He wants to write a love story. His and Ophelia’s story, but he wants to change the ending.

Ophelia still has feelings for Kyle, but he broke her heart before and she knows it could happen all over again if she lets him in. Can Ophelia forgive Kyle and learn to trust in his love again and can Kyle learn the reasons Ophelia returned home and understand her true feelings?

This is a beautiful second chance love story. Forgiveness is a major theme throughout, not only for the H/h, but also for Kyle and his recovering alcoholic father. Keep the tissues handy. Ophelia is such a multilayered heroine. Kyle has to learn to listen and actually see things from her point of view to understand the truth of their relationship problems. This story delves into the gray areas of a relationship and not just the black and white. I also enjoyed Kyle writing his romance story within this story. It highlighted and contrasted well with Kyle’s shifts in understanding from the past to the present. The sex scenes are explicit, appropriate to the story and fun.

Ophelia and Kyle’s story is heartwarming, funny, sexy, a tear-jerker and everything I want in a second chance romance. This book can be read as a standalone, but the first book in the series was also a great read that I recommend. I laughed at Hei Hei’s antics once again. I love the realistic secondary characters of this small town community and cannot wait to return for Harper’s story.

Ophelia Bishop lives in the small town of Gardiner in upstate New York where she runs the family bed-and-breakfast, Robin's Nest B&B. She stays very busy with the life she's carved out for herself. Everything is great until the man who broke her heart years ago returns to wreak havoc on her life. Ophelia hasn't seen Kyle Kimpton in almost a decade. She hoped she'd never see him again, but here he is in her town. Kyle was her childhood best friend, and her first love. They'd run off to LA together to follow their dreams, and then Ophelia realized they wanted different things and returned home. She felt he'd chosen his career over her. She no longer fit in the new life they'd created for themselves.

Kyle had found fame as a screenwriter in Hollywood, but the price he'd paid had been too high. He'd lost the only woman he'd ever loved. He finally had it all, but realized nothing mattered without her. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't forget her. He remembered a time when they were each other's safe place. She was his own personal sanctuary. He swore he'd never return home, but it's time to reclaim what he'd lost, and fight for a second chance. He was determined to make things right with Ophelia, and prove she could trust him again.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

-She was the only one who'd ever made him feel whole.

-He'd fight to get her back.

-She meant everything to him.

-"It's still there." She stiffened. "What?" His voice dropped to a low, velvety growl. "Our connection. My body remembers yours. Every inch of your skin is ingrained in my memory. The scent of that lavender-and-honey lotion you wore, and the way your eyes turn to blue fire when you're mad, and how your smile can make a whole room hold its breath."

-Their bodies still belonged to each other, no matter how many years had passed.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Kyle wants to face their past, and figure out where things went wrong, but Ophelia was still angry and hurt. He clearly had his work cut out for him in earning her forgiveness, but he had to at least try. He believed their story wasn't finished, and wanted a future with her.

Ophelia had never gotten over Kyle or been able to fully move on. She'd tried to forget what they had, but nobody had ever loved her as passionately and completely as Kyle. He'd once been her everything, but now he was a stranger. She had to keep her distance in order to protect her heart, but Kyle was persistent. He made her feel vulnerable, and the raw chemistry between them came to life whenever they were close. She soon realized she still ached for his touch as they give in to explosive desire. Being in his arms was like going home again, but how could she jump into the unknown and let herself fall again if he would be leaving soon?

I loved this book so much! It's a best friend's little sister romance about broken promises, regrets, forgiveness, soul mates, and second chances. The message I took away was we can't change our past, but we can always change our own ending. It's never too late to follow your heart, and grab hold of your own HEA! This story centered around the most beautiful love, but also had the most delicious seduction. This man adored his lady, and didn't see anyone but her. She was it for him, and was his whole heart!

I don’t know about this blurb. Very suspicious and it irritates so much when the hero leaves the heroine for whatever reason and years later after accomplishing and doing whatever he could he comes back wanting the heroine again. It feels like these man have a list they want to do before setting down with heroine. And worse is that these heroines take them back. I’ll wait and see.

Awww that was adorable!

I just love those sweet and moving romances.

I'll keep this short ....

A beautiful, homey, family-run B&B with cookies and hot chocolate on the porch for guests and a horse farm and great siblings. And those secrets and misundertandings and not-talkings that still hang above Ophelia and Kyle like a dark cloud. Lots of work still for those two until they'll get to ride off into their happily ever after sunset! But the reader enjoys every single page of that journey.

It was the perfect romance!

Sweet, adorable, funny, moving, sad, sparky, sexy, exciting, wintery.
I just adored it all. I even cried a bit here and there!

Also ... Hei Hei is the best book pet ever!!!!! ☺ LOL!

I can't wait to see what Harper will have to tell us in book #3!

A BRAND NEW ENDING was a mega-adorable and moving second-chance romance! I just adored everything about it! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Kyle - this one is mine!

So the challenge right off the bat for me was to embrace and actually care for Kyle, the hero. Here was a soft spoken, sexy, supposedly remorseful, famous, screenwriter guy, who was so self-absorbed/clueless, he still had no idea years later why his lady love left him high and dry in Hollywood to head back to their small hometown.

Not surprisingly, we find out Ophelia felt Kyle cared about himself more than her so decided to completely wipe him from her memory banks. Folks, I’m also not overly fond of a doormat heroine who slinks off and doesn’t leave behind a huge piece of her mind to set things straight before grabbing her suitcase and slamming the door behind her.

Another challenge for me was to understand “why” in general? Why did it take Kyle so long to supposedly finally come to his senses? His need to profit/benefit from their past history seemed selfish and self-serving, despite the fact he also wanted her back. Why did Ophelia not set him straight when she first left him? Why did they stay apart for so many years? Why and how could they possibly have kept their relationship secret when they had the same family/friends back home?

So I’m left feeling this storyline needed a brand new beginning, my fellow romance book loving friends. On top of all this was the fact by 67% into it, I realized nothing significant had actually happened. Boredom had slowly but surely set in to the point I no longer cared how it all wrapped up. Not even the flashbacks particularly grabbed my attention or interest.

I also found it very disheartening neither were celibate during their very long separation. Also, how could they not have suspected something was amiss when a certain something didn’t show up in the mail?

My “why” conundrum became a “whatever” one. Though I normally really do enjoy this author, this book just wasn’t as good as I had hoped. Here’s to hoping others really enjoy it. I found the writing and plot to be mediocre.

Not working for me. I usually like Miss Probst's books. A Brand New Ending is more like walking down memory lane with not so much going on in the present.

The hero uses memory lane as his weapon to win his heroine back.

Ah young love, when everything is possible and you live like there's no tomorrow. But dreams can't last forever and one day, Ophelia Bishop had to face reality. When she eloped with Kyle to Hollywood, she was supposed to become a famous singer and him, a prolific writer, but things didn't go as planned. She realized she wasn't made for this life and was slowly losing herself, and when Kyle became too consumed by his success and making a name for himself and tried to downplay her unhappiness, Ophelia felt like she had no other choice but to leave and came back to her hometown in Gardiner, New York and became an innkeeper like her mother. Almost a decade later, it's time to face the music again, and despite the fact she already said no, her brother arranged for Kyle to stay at the inn for three months. She'll just have to deal with his presence, but it's easier said than done when strong emotions and painful memories take up all the room.

Blocked for almost a year now, the screenwriter is back in Gardiner to work on a new project. And to ask Ophelia for a second chance. But the young woman still have resentments and she haven't forgive him yet. She's not sure she can trust and give her heart again. She might have been the one to walk away, but he didn't fight for her. She's afraid the past will repeat itself, but will she be able to keep her distance ?

I'm the first surprised that I enjoyed this book despite the fact Kyle was less than "the perfect hero" type. I'm all about second chance, as long as the guilty part learn from the mistakes and try to make amend for it. But even now, Kyle didn't seem to understand her. He didn't get why she can't give him her trust easily and didn't want to risk her heart again. And I felt like once again, he still didn't listen to her nor tried to understand her way of thinking. At the end, he finally understood what was important and did what matter but why this romance worked for me ? I don't have a clue.. I guess I enjoyed their journey to forgiveness. And the theme of redemption was present in a subplot about the hero and his father who brought something interesting too. And I liked that we saw again Ethan, Mia and Harper.

I've given this a C+ at AAR, so 3.5 stars

I've not read anything by Jennifer Probst before, but the blurb for A Brand New Ending interested me, so I decided to give it a try. Sadly, it didn't impress me all that much, although the secondary plotline - about the hero rebuilding his relationship with his recovering-alcoholic father - was truly poignant and very well done. The romance, however, was less impressive; there's no real relationship development or sense of two people who have been apart for almost a decade coming to know each other as they are NOW, which is what always draws me to second-chance romances. Plus, the central characters are fairly bland; I couldn't connect with the heroine who is Practically Perfect in Every Way (when it comes to her business, at least) and the hero isn't one I'm going to remember beyond the writing of this review.

Kristen Donnelly, one of my fellow reviewers at All About Romance, and I decided to team up for this one; she reads a lot of contemporary romances and I don't, so we though it would be fun to get some different perspectives on the novel. You can find our Pandora's Box review HERE .

I had enjoyed the first book of this series, so I was excited to see Ophelia get her story.

I really liked Ophelia. I loved her resilience and her loyalty. She’s so full of love and genuinely cares for people. It was refreshing to be in her head. Kyle is charming and maybe a bit wrapped up in himself, but he sloooooowly starts to see things differently. Ophelia and Kyle do have some chemistry, but I didn’t quite see the reason they each pined away for the other.

Plot wise, it was good. I was expecting loads of drama and it wasn’t like that. I liked the flashbacks in the format of Kyle writing the book and while I wanted more banter and sweetness, I loved that they were together for most of the book.

Overall, it was a quick and sweet read. I’m eager to see if Harper is getting a story next.

**Huge thanks to Montlake Romance for providing the arc free of charge**

“Look at me, Ophelia. I need you to look into my eyes when I make you mine again.”

A beautiful, heartwarming, and brilliantly written love story by one of my favorites!

A Brand New Ending is book two in Jennifer Probst’s Stay series and it can be read as a standalone, but make no mistake, once you dive into Ophelia and Kyle’s journey, you’re going to want to grab Ethan and Mia’s as well (The Start of Something Good). I know I did!

This is a charming and emotional second chance romance that mostly takes place in a small town, but it reaches to the glitz, glamour, and struggles of the Hollywood scene. When you’re young and in love you think you can get through anything. You think you can conquer the world and not suffer the consequences. Ophelia and Kyle thought they were strong enough…thought their love could withstand any obstacles. They were so wrong. Fast forward almost a decade, and Kyle returns to claim what he’d lost all those years ago. Ophelia isn’t having it. She wants nothing to do with the boy she once loved with all of her heart. But when certain circumstances pushes them together again, the love that she thought was buried, comes rushing back in full force. The dreams they had aren’t as important anymore. A new dream blossoms between them…the dream of undeniable and unconditional love.

I loved these two characters so damn much! Together and separately, they held their own in this story. I admired how Ophelia stood her ground in the beginning. But I loved how Kyle was able to knock down some of her defenses, giving her the opportunity to trust again. I loved how when Kyle was writing his story, he learned so much from Ophelia’s POV, softening him even more. I managed to make it through this story without a single tear, but when the epilogue came about, I was a goner. Happy tears though…nothing but happy tears in the end.

Ophelia and Kyle are best friends who ran away to Hollywood at 18 to chase their dreams. Kyle made it, Ophelia did not she then returned home to run her family’s bed and breakfast in upstate New York. This takes place years later with Ophelia happily running the Inn and Kyle with writer’s block. He returns home to regain his mojo with a new project of writing his and Ophelia’s story. Ophelia is not happy with his return and is afraid of getting her heart broken again.
I really liked this. The setting of the bed and breakfast is interesting to me. I didn’t realize how much work went into it. The best part though is through Kyles writing we get to learn the real story in what went down in Hollywood. Kyle really grew as a person as he learned that that his version of events wasn’t really the true story as he began to tell the story through Ophelia’s POV. I thought it was a unique way of telling the story through past and current events. I loved touching base with Ophelia’s brother and Mia from book one as well as her sister Hannah who better get her own book soon. I’ve always enjoyed this authors writing. 4 stars.

Once again, I jumped at the chance to be an early reader of a Jennifer Probst title, as she has quickly become one of my favourite authors. By now, I've come to expect certain things from Probst's books, including enjoyable and unique characters, realistic struggles, a fast-paced plot, and tons of steam and swoon. I think, for the most part, "A Brand New Ending" delivered what I was expecting.

Starting with the characters, they were great, as anticipated. Kyle is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, which means he's pretty clear with Ophelia - he wants a second chance with her, and he's not giving up without giving it all he's got. Ophelia, understandably, is petrified that she is going to have her heart shattered again if she gives Kyle a second chance, but eventually he convinces her to give their relationship another shot. Hopefully, they won't mess things up again!

I also always enjoy how Probst is able to weave secondary storylines or characters into her novels. In this case, my heart was gradually won over by a geriatric rescue dog, and to a lesser extent, Kyle's dad. I even shed a few tears at the culmination of this book, to my surprise!

As for the pacing, I feel that this is one area that could have been improved. It's possible that because there are several flashbacks from the present to the past, things felt sluggish. Usually, I love dual timelines in romance novels because they seem to add an element of suspense - what on earth happened to make these two so estranged, when they are so obviously meant for each other? - but in this case, I found myself constantly losing focus. I wanted things to move along more quickly, especially in the present.

Of course, just because "A Brand New Ending" wasn't my favourite Probst title, doesn't mean it's not good. I'm still glad I read it, and I'm sure most contemporary romance fans will agree.

A Brand New Ending was an amazing story of a second chance… but I am sorry to say, the ending of it didn’t do this book a justice. It felt very flat to me, like the author was just trying to skip to the happy ending.

A Brand New Ending by Jennifer Probst
Narrated by Erin Bennett and Brian Pallino
Standalone, 2nd in a Related Series
After reading The Start of Something Good, I was excited for Ophelia’s story, so I jumped right into A Brand New Ending . Though once again told in third person, I figured now that I was into the series, I may not notice as much.

I enjoy second chance romances. In this case, Kyle and Ophelia were high school sweethearts who, at 18 ran off to Hollywood together. He wanted to be a screenwriter and she wanted to be a singer. Kyle started hitting it big as a screenwriter immediately, and within two years Ophelia was back home running the family’s B & B.

Nobody ever knew what happened between them, so ten years later, when Kyle needed to come back home to find his muse again, Ophelia’s brother welcomed him, not knowing Ophelia never wanted to see him again.
“The crux of it is one simple lesson: we all deserve to give ourselves a second chance. It doesn’t negate the pain we put others through, and it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. Reparations still need to be made. But without second chances, we’d be stuck in the gutter for life.”

If Kyle came back knowing how badly he screwed up, I may have accepted it, but honestly, he was clueless. And the fact that he never made it his business to find out what happened between them really turned me off. It seemed like he was back because of the surprise he found, and for the story he was writing more than for Ophelia.
"Forgiveness was such a twisted, thorny thing—easy to preach and hard to practice."

The story was told with a lot of flashbacks which are always difficult in audio, because when you read, they are usually in italics, but you can’t “hear” italics. Though I liked the book-within-a-book theme, I have to admit, while I enjoyed the listen for the most part, I just got bored. I was ready for it to end so I can get to the next book on my list. I was hoping it would perk up at the end.
“Beginnings are necessary and cherished, but it’s the endings that will make a person remember you forever.”

But for me it never did. I liked the story, but I just never felt the couple’s connection, and I don’t think he truly learned from his mistakes.

My favorite part of A Brand New Ending was actually the complicated relationship between Kyle and his estranged father.
"Sometimes, it wasn’t about endings at all. Sometimes, it was all about new beginnings."

Likes:

•Jennifer is a great storyteller.
•I love a second chance romance.
•The reasons for the breakup seem realistic and make perfect sense.
•The book within the book.
•Hei Hei the chicken!
•Kyle's story with his father.
•Visits with the characters from the first book (Even though this stands alone).
•The epilogue.

Dislikes:

•I never felt their connection. It felt like he came back for selfish reasons to me.
•3rd person.
•I got bored.

The Narration:
These were both new narrators to me and they were great! While I loved their narration, I think the flashbacks made this harder to follow on audio than if you read it.
The Down & Dirty:
I enjoyed A Brand New Ending. It was OK, but I wanted to LOVE it. Sadly I just felt like he never cared enough to come home and find out what really happened until he needed to know for professional reasons. I found myself a bit bored with the story, and by 78% almost considered taking a break and putting it down. But I’m glad I stuck with it because I loved the end.

Rating: 3 stars, 4 Heat, 4 Narration

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Ophelia and Kyle ran off to New York to pursue their dreams, only Ophelia found herself going back home with a broken heart. Years later, Kyle comes back into her life to write his book realizing his mistakes in the process. While Ophelia had moved on, she never really stopped loving him.

When it comes to broken hearts, I tend to be an unforgiving kind of person, so I knew from the start that forgiving this hero was going to be tough. While the heartache he brought was not completely unforgivable, I just had my reservations from the start. Did he earn his forgiveness? Debatable, but I suppose he proved himself worthy for Ophelia.

Ophelia and Kyle are not my favorite couple but I enjoyed their story. They were sweet, funny, and so are the rest of the characters in this book. But what I found is that this book is more than just a second chance at love. Probst wrote the nitty gritty of it all; acceptance, forgiveness and the unconditional love despite the mistakes.

What hit me close to home is Kyle situation with his dad, Patrick, who took a little of the spotlight at some point (IMO). I love that Probst not only touched on his hardships as a recovering alcoholic but how long the process was. Kyle’s hardships and heartaches are not to be missed as well. She described Kyle and Patrick’s past and present so vividly that I felt their pain. I felt Patrick’s shame and I felt his need to make amends.

Don’t get me wrong, this book is neither sad or depressing. Despite the touch of heartaches, this is still a (stand-alone) light contemporary story and perfect for a weekend read.

4.5 Stars

Oh my goodness! I love a great second chance romance. In this case it really is about first love and whether hearts that were shattered can remember what it means to be in love. This is the second book in the series following a set of siblings. Ophelia runs the family B & B and is the glue that keeps her siblings grounded.

Kyle was a childhood friend and sweetheart. He has lost who he was while out in Hollywood and decides to come back home again for clarity. Ophelia wants nothing to do with the man who broke her. Kyle isn't done trying.

Given the chance, the two find they still have some zing. Trust in everything is still a huge barrier for them to move forward. I liked that both Kyle and Ophelia were able to take a step back and look at things from the others prospective. I loved that they both needed to re-write their ending.

The beautiful wintery setting at a B & B farm just rounds out all the goodness in this story. Not many clues given about baby sister Harper, but I have a feeling she is going to be a tough nut to crack. Looking forward to reading more!

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) This is the second book in this series and i feel like I am on a cycle of books that I am not crazy about.. I was excited to get this book after reading the first book about Ethan and Mia, I loved that one or more I loved them so that was my highlight of this book was hearing about how they were doing or getting glimpses of them in story, hoping we get more from them, maybe even a wedding..Ok to this book, this was Ophelia's book, and what happened between her and him. We find out how they got married and how he changed and left her heartbroken. He comes back claiming to want a second chance and wanting his muse returned. I was proud of her how she dealt with him in the beginning and she put her foot down, but then after she finally agrees to let him stay she crumbled yes she was a little strong but he didn't deserve her. Ryan was a selfish man thru out the whole story, yes he helped her when she was sick, but mostly all his thoughts were on him and what he wanted and what he could get.. I kind of wish he had grown thru out story, but I didn't feel he did. All in all can't wait for Harper's story.

I am loving second chance romances. I mean who does not love a second chance at love with the person you were meant to be, right? A Brand New Ending by Jennifer Probst had all the best second chance feels! Ophelia Bishop and Kyle Kimpton were bright eyed, happy and in love when they followed their dreams to Hollywood. But when things did not go as planned and choices had to be made, they went their separate ways.

Ophelia returned home broken-hearted and no longer that naïve girl who believed in fairytales. Instead she now runs a business and moved on. Kyle knows he hurt Ophelia and was wrong in letting her go, but can he show her they can have a new ending?

So much hurt and misunderstandings stand in their way, but feelings cannot be denied. Can Ophelia and Kyle find their second chance or is it too late? I have to say considering all their history and hurt feelings, this was a charming and sweet read. Ophelia was hurt, but her feelings for Kyle never disappeared. And Kyle is determined to show Ophelia what she means to him. A Brand New Ending was refreshing and engaging.

I thought the story was very interesting. It had so many layers to it with lots of second chances. I'll thank the author for the difficult subject that was tackled straight on...Kyle's dad. His addiction made life courses that were painful. If you know addiction is in your family it is better you never drink. I've seen how generations are affected.

This story is more than that, of course. Kyle had lots of soul searching to do, along with growing up in those years and now in the three months he is staying at B&B.

So, it's a good story with compelling characters. And it has a nice ending.

Kyle's back in his hometown for one reason - to get back his love, Ophelia. Yes, he's also back to write his newest screenplay, but that's secondary to what he really wants. But, when it becomes apparent to him that not only does Ophelia not realize he's back in town, but, more significantly, she doesn't want him back, what's a desperate man to do? Perhaps his best friend, Ethan, Ophelia's brother, will help. Of course, Ethan has no idea what happened between his sister and his best friend, except that they had a falling out 10 years previous. In a nice twist, Ophelia falls ill, and Kyle is the only one there to take care of her and her family's inn. After that, how can Ophelia say no to letting him stay the three months he needs to get past his writer's block? And, sneakily, worm his way back into Ophelia's heart.

I love second chance romances, IF the two deserve a second chance. I'm still not sure Kyle deserved a second chance, but Ophelia definitely deserved happiness, so I can give Kyle a pass even though I never liked him or connected with him. But, I liked the rest of the story so even though Kyle left me cold, I think 4 stars is fair. I love that this is a story of forgiveness and healing, and the secondary cast is superb. I hope Ophelia and Ethan's sister Harper's story is next, because she's hiding a lot underneath that seemingly placid exterior, I think!

A Brand New Ending, Stay Book 2, Jennifer Probst
men's Fiction
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:General fiction (adult), Romance

Stupidly I was drawn to the blurb, knew I'd enjoyed some of Jennifer's stories before and didn't check. This series isn't going to be for me, I didn't like the first book, and didn't enjoy this one. My bad, its a good story for many readers, just doesn't suit my taste.

I just didn't really understand why these two split, why Ophelia just left, why he didn't seek her out before, and what had changed. She still didn't want the life he led, he still didn't want hers. I know Love conquers all, but when two people have such wildly differing ambitions can they ever be happy. One of them is going to have to fold, and in the long term will that work? I wasn't convinced by the ending. Maybe if I'd liked either character a bit more, or even felt that they were truly suited, but if so why didn't they work at getting back together before, why wait? The timing now seemed a little too convenient, if I was Ophelia I'd be thinking, Now he's got time, why not before and equally if I was Kyle I'd be thinking Is she just going to spook and disappear again? There needed to be some serious love between them for it to work, and if there was how could they just stay away all those years. Maybe I'm too much the cynic.

Stars:Two and a half, I liked it a little more than book one, but wasn't convinced by the story. I'll still look for Jennifer's books but make a note that this particular series isn't for me.

4.5 Write a brand new ending Stars

Now I really wish they had used the cheesy and adorable phrase of write a brand new ending in the book alas it was fine. This is book 2 in the stay serious however both are strandalone and you don’t miss much of the story by not reading it in order. I feel if you read it in order you are really interested in Ophelia’s story and have more investment. This story is about Ophelia and her long lost love Kyle. She never lost Kyle she left him because he lost himself. Ophelia and Kyle rand off to Hollywood to be writers and singers and Ophelia found out Hollywood wanted more than a singer and her husband was wanted by Hollywood more than he wanted her. This story is about Ophelia’s pain and loss she experienced as well as Kyle’s determination to win her back. What holds me off on this is Kyle’s character. I didn’t enjoy it. He was written in lovely and most of the boxes were checked with me but I feel their story didn’t have a good enough resolution for me for me to bond with his character which caused their story to be a tad flat.
This book however has great stream, conversation and growth and is a feel good romance and gives happy endings as is traditional with the author

Magnificent. The story developed and flowed and progressed and came full circle to the right ending or should I say the new beginning. This is a second chance romance with the trope of young lovers running away to Hollywood to make it big but one comes back to lick her wounds. 10 years later he comes back the big star wanting to write their romance their story as well as get her back. But its more than a trope. As Kyle writes his story, I am led thru their past thru his writing. As Kyle's romance with Ophelia blooms again, she refects on the past. Kyle realizes he was looking at the past thru hazy eyes. The more he wrote about their history and included her feelings, the more he realized how much he was at fault too. This is a beautiful well written story rich with emotion as well as some good steam. Adding in his relationship with his alcoholic father just made it that more rich. Everything came full circle. Wo derfully done Jen!😍
