“I eventually became such a fan of the world of hostelling that it soon became a goal to run a hostel of my own. After all, one can’t always afford to travel the world, but running a hostel makes it possible for the world to come to you.” Anyone who has ever stayed in a hostel knows that when tourists and travelers from different backgrounds all come together in one place, anything can happen and there will always be stories! This particular collection of stories, set on an unnamed island in the North Atlantic, provides a personalized, inside look at the world of hostelling. Chronicled here is a multitude of colorful characters who pass through the hostel’s doors, and the often amusing and sometimes touching events that inevitably unfold. All of this is set against the author’s continuing adventures and misadventures of managing the drama and everything else that running the hostel requires.
Part memoir, part humor, part travelogue, and with a few spooky ghost stories tossed in for good measure, Tales from a Hostel at the Edge of the World has something for all travelers of life and promises to entertain!
This really is a great short fun read. As a world traveler I find that my favorite books are indeed about other people seeing the world and their great stories! I don’t stay in hostels but seeing through the writers eyes it seems like such a challenging but great job of meeting all people from walks of life and also having fun while doing so. Easy to read and light hearted great book - I hope he writes more on his life adventures
Really enjoyed this book. I’ve never stayed at a hostel but have often wondered what they were like. Reading all the tales from this author’s experience and the way he tells it makes you imagine you were right there. There’s a lot of humor in this book. Great writing.
