Cora is the goddess Persephone, living in Greece in the fourteenth century B.C. In order to shelter her from prophecy, her mother, Demeter, sends her away to Azure Blue. The young girl is raised and protected by the nymph queen, Nephrea, in a dreamlike crystal palace among azure trees and amethyst fields under a green sun. She’s adopted into the Amazon code of honor, bravery, and righteousness. But Cora is not an Amazon nymph. And prophecy holds quite a different fate for her as she grows into adulthood—Hades, Lord of the Underworld.
Upon Persephone’s fall, Demeter rages and threatens to freeze the entire world under ice and snow forever. Nephrea offers a sacrifice to quell her rage, but down in the fiery world below, it might be more than just the goddess who will need saving.

Cora may be the goddess Persephone, her mother still has a say in her life and she sends her to be raised by a nymph queen, Nephrea. Forced to adapt to the Amazons' way of life, she struggles to fit in and understand. Because she is not a nymph. She's a goddess mentionned in a prophecy for her coming years, a dark fate involving Hades, god of the Underworld. Even Nephrea isn't powerful enough to protect her from her destiny.
The beginning of this book completely threw me off. I was deeply confused, thought Cora was absolutely unbearable and childish and I almost chose to DNF. There are some very weird and disturbing things happening and it made me cringe, to be honest. But then, it got slightly better. Once the "adventure" started, the story became quite addictive and surprising. I liked Nephrea's point of view better and the quest she set on was interesting to follow. I also liked the Greek mythology influence of the story and how the author changed the legends up to match their characters. It was intriguing, and once I'd gotten over the weirdness and uneasiness of the beginning, I enjoyed the rest. However, the book was still confusing, in my opinion. I remained a bit puzzled throughout the entire thing and, even now, I'm not sure I fully understood what was happening. I don't really know what to think in the end, but it wasn't all bad I'd say, even if the beginning really was strange and not my cup of tea.
I have no idea if I'd recommend it or not, but be warned that the beginning is slightly disturbing...
