Special Agent Dana Duran is as skeptical as you get. So when she arrives in Devil’s Fork, LA and realizes that people are dying from voodoo dolls, she has no idea where to start. Except perhaps with local voodoo practitioner Julian Portier. He is broody and powerful and the only one capable of making Dana believe in the supernatural going on around her. This is a deviation from the usual werewolf stuff we usually get in this series, but it fits more with the theme of the anthology of witches. The H/h were interesting and had chemistry and they got together pretty quickly, as must happen in a novella. But the pacing was good, the connection between them was believable and it was good. The only thing, in retrospect, that I struggle with is how quickly and easily Dana dropped the skepticism, but in the story itself, it happened quite seamlessly and didn’t bother me at all.

I am reading most of the full Night Creatures book series in order. This is my first novella in the series. I prefer the ones that happen in New Orleans or involve more than straight up werewolves. I like the Voodoo magic and curses and myth building. For this reason, I bought Voodoo Moon based on the title. I found the question, “What is the opposite of blood?” intriguing but felt like the author really rushed things in this romance. They are all rushed but this one happened in a day or two I think.

I’m not sorry I read it but I also wouldn’t recommend it unless one is an avid fan of Handeland’s other paranormal writing.

No chemistry between the characters, and the way they fixed the problem was ridiculous. I've not read any of the author's other works, but this one really didn't do it for me.

Probably interesting if you follow the Night Creature series but pretty dull otherwise.

This short story is 7.5 of the ‘Nightcreatures’ series. It takes place in the tiny backwoods town of Devil’s Fork, Georgia which is NE of New Orleans where the previous books took place. Both Edward and Cassandra are mentioned or show up thus linking the stories.

In this FBI agent Dana Duran is sent to investigate a series of ‘Voodoo Doll’ murders and the suspect at the top-of-her-list is the owner of the new Voodoo shop in town: Julian Portier.

Dana seemed oblivious and inexperienced. She kept having to check in on what to do next. I’m surprised Edward wants her. And Julian seemed just too obviously spooky and depressing. You knew from the start that he was involved and the chemistry between the two was flat. Miss Henson and her B&B were more interesting. There was so much time was put into her, I expected more involvement in the story. I like the ME and the sheriff also.

Quick Thoughts: 1)Edward has enough helpers for the series, let’s have some of the regulars save the day for the lovers. Afterall, you can’t have everybody that finds out about the ‘monsters’ join up.

2)I think I like Julian’s shop better than Cassandra’s especially the backyard.

Fave Scenes: meeting the sheriff and Portier’s garden.

Novella that was originally released in the anthology, No Rest for the Witches, has Special Agent Dana Duran sent to Devil’s Fork, LA when the town needs help with a serial killer. From the Nightcreatures series, part of the fun of this story is that just-the-facts Dana doesn’t believe in magic or the supernatural. Yet her first night there what she sees and investigates defies logic and she turns to Julian, the owner of a Voodoo shop for answers.

I like the fact that I didn’t have to get the entire anthology to read this story, which is a new one for me. Dana’s thoughts at the beginning of the story as she’s driving into town are entertaining, as are her thoughts when around Julian. And we get a little history on Voodoo.

Edward Mandenauer does make an appearance, but not until after the threat is handled.

As always a great read from Lori Handeland. What more can I say? Buy it and read it. I bought it without reading anything about it. That is how good her books are. So, I suggest you do the same. I don't like to give a running commentary on a book. I read the back of books of some authors or if I haven't read that author but the magic lies in you reading and loving it.

This is a short novella set in the same world as the Nightcreature novels. I didn’t like it as much as the other books. The premise was just a little out there for me, and I didn’t feel the connection between Dana and Julian. Maybe it was just a little too quick to really get into the story. It was just an okay read for me.
