Scout Randall knows what she is, more than a witch, more powerful than she ever thought imaginable. She’s only hit the tip of the iceberg on what she can do. Now she has to grapple with another problem. When her former partner Evan was believed dead in a vampire attack, she blamed herself, mourned, and tried to move on. Now he’s back, and he’s more than anybody ever imagined, too. Unfortunately, nobody can find him. When news reaches Scout that there’s been a potential vampire attack in neighboring Hemlock Cove, she packs her bags and hits the parnormal tourist destination with her boyfriend Gunner as backup. She’s not prepared for what she finds, including a gaggle of witches who like to cause trouble wherever they go. Evan is there, lurking in the shadows and struggling with an identity he didn’t ask for, but death is stalking the town from multiple directions. Murder, mayhem, and monsters are afoot and Scout is determined to get to the bottom of it all … even if her life is in danger in the process. The baddest motorcycle gang in the Midwest is about to meet the Winchester witches. The world will never be the same.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
The only thing I didn’t like about this book was that it ended. I usually wait for a series to be completed before I start reading it. This time it sounded so entertaining that I jumped in like I had good sense. Now as soon as I finish the latest book, I want the next one. Patience isn’t one of my virtues. This book seemed more of a further fleshing out of a couple of previous character issues; which was needed. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the author carries out the issues these characters have; both personally, and as they relate to others. I’m hoping she will work that into several more books. It doesn’t seem like something that should be easily solved, and packaged up in a bow. The issues are complex, and so are the people involved. The bad guys in this book were a little short on character development, but that would have been solved by writing a longer story. The author may have limitations there I’m not aware of, as in a page limit. Personally, I’m happy to have the story more about the good guys than the bad. Others may see it differently, but I think the author did a great job, considering the book length. All in all, I enjoyed it, very much, and loved the crossover with the Winchesters, and Mama Moon. Tillie is in a category of her own! 😄🥰
Basic nothing story, pushing another crossover with another series
Not much to this story. It could have easily been included with the last book. It seemed to be an excuse to create a crossover event between this series and the Wicked Witches of the Midwest series. The crossover was ok, but there has been so many of them in all her various series, it’s getting more annoying then fun.
I guess by creating these crossovers she hopes to entice readers to read the other series if they haven’t and be able to make money that way. I’d wholeheartedly agree with her doing it, if each series was more unique.
They each read like bastardized versions of one of the others. Insert heroine, lets make her the Super-Uber powered whatever for that series (Witch, Child of the Stars, long lost Witch, Mage), then make many of those same heroine types lost because they were abandoned by family, or didn’t know their birth family, or lived on the streets until a magic circus finds them, or finds an island of magical people, but each has to be damaged emotionally so the insert male interest here can share their lives and build her heart so she knows she’s worthy and they can start their lives together, by being the most narcissistic vapid individuals they can be, all the while the authors claims she’s against those types of people by denigrating Reality TV and the Kardashians. There is usually at least one lovable elderly woman she can bond to, but will also egg her on for inappropriate hijinks. There will also be at least one father-like figure that gives strong support when she needs it. Possibly add in a gay male, stereotypical of course, for diversity ya know. Then you pretty much have your series characters, add a few others as needed for spice and snarky commentary and you are pretty much done. All that’s left is to follow the same template over and over for each series and you have multiple books from multiple series for the masses to read. Oh forgot, each woman’s name has to be unique, and if unique one can’t be found, just use a male sounding name that could also work for a woman.
No wonder she can pump out so many different books under multiple author names. Good writing requires time and effort. These have become the bottom of the barrel books as they are all alike, with very little inventiveness happening in each book. Between Lee and Harper Hart, at least one book a month or more? No author is that good at least who would claim they want to write quality work.
I feel bad for having given such good reviews in the past. I guess if you read each series far enough apart, like I had initially, you don’t see the glaring similarities and can give fun reviews. The initial Wicked Witch series, Grimlock and Coventry series did have unique writing and reasonably decent quality and ideas. The later WW stuff, Crones, Death Gate, the Charlie series and the rest are just templated formulaic crap.
Don’t waste your time reading all of the series or books, just choose one series and then read each book of that series until the books becomes so predictable you don’t need to read them any longer. That or just find a better author with better stories, who actually cares to write quality prose for their readers instead of the quantity over quality crap this authors various series have become.
I really enjoy these crossover books especially when they contain my favourite witch family, the Winchesters. Here we have Scout, down in the dumps over the events in her last outing looking for a task to take her out of herself. Turns out there’s a dead body been found in Hemlock Cove, now normally the Spells Angels don’t investigate anything happing around the Cove as it’s controlled by a very powerful family of witches, The Winchesters. But Scout needs a distraction so off she and Gunner go off for what is basically busy work. Turns out all is not as it seems, the body may be a vampire attack, and Scout fears it may be her old partner Evan, who disappeared after the events in the last Spells Angels book. They book in to The Overlook, the Winchester run B & B and meet some of the family specifically Bay, Landon and Tillie. Scout and Bay immediately hit it off and combine forces to try and get to the bottom of what is happening in the Cove. Great addition to both series and I would have given it five stars but for one glaring fact. The cover picture gives away one of the major plot points in the book so you don’t find it out organically as you read, it annoyed me no end.
With Emma remaining bitter but captive and Ezekiel hanging around trying to bring her back from the dark; Scouts patience with her family is waning. Now they also have Evan, a different type of family to Scout, to worry about as following the end of the vampire enclave, and Scout's attempt to save him, he's disappeared.
When news of a body with its throat ripped out comes in from Hemlock Cove there's every possibility Evan is the culprit, especially when he has family living in the area, so Scout and Gunner head over to offer their help.
Hemlock Cove is Winchester territory and the Spells Angels help isn't usually needed between Bay and Aunt Tillie but this time it's a whole other level and they will require more than just Scout and Gunner to head off the evil that faces them.
Another extraordinary supernatural cozy mystery series
An extraordinarily awesome supernatural cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an awesome storyline. Scout is a spells angel member who happens to be a witch but not Justy which she is more. Read on and find out the adventure that scout and the rest of the spells angels are going to get into this time. Another fun crossover event with a wicked witches of the Midwest characters and another guest character that bounces between many of the books. Extraordinary and entertaining and a spectacularly awesome read. Check it out
So much greatness in this book. Of course it was in Scout's point of view, though there is a Tillie and Bay bit in the beginning. A lot happens and it's my favorite characters (Harley also pops in), only thing that could improve it was if Zoey and crew could have been there (though they are mentioned). I didn't feel any characters were really under used which sometimes happens in the crossovers. Loved Grahams bit with the kitten.
Recommend all of this authors books. Even under her Lily Harper Hart name.
I think many avid readers have imagined writing a book at one time. I have and when I'm following an author I take notes on how the characters grow and the storylines develop. For the first time I realized that some of my favorite writers use a character not really germane to the plot to keep you hooked. In the crone books a kitten and his "grandfather" are the hook. Nothing I could add to the story about them would give you any clue to the plot but each time they pop up they leave me smiling.
Scout and Gunnar go visit the Winchester witches searching for Evan.
What I enjoyed: * The Evan story is really interesting and I really hope he gets saved (or saves himself) * I enjoyed Scout and Bay interacting * I'm also curious if Emma will choose to be a better person
What could have been better: * I know this is unpopular, but I don't like Tillie, she is too annoying * I still don't know what the rest of the Spell's Angels do, besides research as they never seem to use any power
DNF at 18%, although I skimmed to see how the plot resolves. It was really hard to find the plot amid all the pointless dialogue, but I eventually did find the bad guys du jour getting dealt with.
The last book proved I couldn't trust this series to maintain any continuity. This one is another crossover featuring more super special guest stars. After suffering through the last crossover book, I really didn't have any more patience for the over-the-top guest stars.
I am done with this series! I'm very disappointed the cool premise of this series wasn't better utilized.
Look, I suck at writing reviews and yet here I am. This author has fantastic stories. And she’s prolific. You won’t be disappointed if you add her to your rotation. You’ll come across the word shmaltzy and the phrase thunder stealer on a regular basis. They might become part of your vocabulary. My only caution is if you dislike snark. These books are full of snark and if you enjoy snark? Best thing ever. If not? I’m sorry.
Ms. Lee knocked this one out of the ballpark, across the parking lot and into town! She weaves her magic to include several favorite characters in this crossover storyline. If you enjoy a tangled weave of brilliance this is a must read. I encourage you to start at the beginning of Scout’s story as well as the Winchesters. But definitely Scout’s stories.
I love reading Amanda Lee. Her universe of characters are fun and strong. When she brings story lines together she melds them with precision and keeps each true to the original. She feeds us a little more of each characters abilities with each story and keeps it believable. The Winchester’s are probably my favorite so pulling them into Scout’s story line makes this a favorite.
Very Entertaining Story with the Witches of Hemlock Cove
Scout and Gunner are pulled into a murder investigation that occurs in Hemlock Cove. There they run into the whole Winchester family, and together they work to solve the murders and other odd happenings going on. It’s a very well thought out story with lots of snark from everyone and some good action sequences. I definitely enjoy reading this book and learning more about the Spell’s Angels.
Oh how I loved this book. So many funny parts, lots of snark and a whole lot of strong personalities in one place. The mystery was pretty interesting. I feel so bad for a potential bad guy. I can't wait for Bays wedding and Clove to have the baby. Poor Scout needs a break and a lot of answers. Loved this crossover. We also get a surprise extra I enjoy from other series. Highly recommend.
A Drone to Pick(A Spell 's Angels Cozy Mystery book 6
This was another winner. My favorites from another series came into this book. What a great storyline and a great way to end this book. Amanda I love your books and the characters you write about. The Winchester family is my favorite. It made this series great too. I highly recommend all her books and different series. Diana Romano
Details. I have a problem with small details. If the author is going to introduce something in earlier books, then they should be in later books. Either the author forgot or just doesn’t care. Small details that change over the course of the story also change dialogue and the characters. This series is not the only one of this author that had small details changed in the middle of the series.
Join Scout , the whole crew and a family of witches to find out why a man had his throat cut open. Was it vampires or is something else killing people, and does Evan have anything to do with the killings? These are all very good questions that are only going to be answered if you buy this book and read it for yourself. Oh and in case you’re wondering, I recommend you read this whole series, including this book of course;)
A man is found with a missing throat in Hemlock Cove. It might be Evan the former vampire, so Scout and Gunner go to investigate. A huge cast including Harley the crossroads demon come together to determine what happened and fix it.
Lotsa snark and action make this well worth the read.
This one has Scout, Gunner, and friends, and the Winchester witches. It feels like, in this book, Scout has begun setting things to rights little by little. Though the main story is figuring out what is up with Evan since Scout blasted his vampire self with something she didn’t understand, changing him in mysterious ways.
It's coming up to fall and Scout is having issues with friends and family! Here sister is still not cooperating, her grandfather is still trying to hard to get her to forgive him and her best friend from Detroit is still missing. If course she's ready to go to Hemlock Cove to meet the most powerful witches of the midwest!!
Scout and Gunner are sent to Hemlock Cove, the hometown of the Winchester witches, to figure out what kind of monster is killing people. The two teams have to learn to trust and work with each other to solve the problems. Throw in some Tillie and a visit from Harley and things are going to get very interesting.
Loved this book. The crossover fun. I love the characters from both series and it was great seeing them interacting with one another. The storyline was riveting and kept me interested until the end. There was plenty of humor along with a bit of romance. This was an enjoyable read.
What an awesome mystery and a wonderful cross-over… Spells Angel’s and Hemlock cove was an interesting and brilliant mix. Aunt Tillie was at her best, Bay and Scout are fast friends… Harley drops in for fun and food. It truly was an all-star cast of characters.
I loved the way the characters interacted with each other. Strong women who respected each other but still managed to be themselves. I am curious about Evan’s future and hope that he chooses the good side. Harley is my new idol and Gunner, dear lord, you are a dream partner.
This cross over was one of the best ones. We have the spells Angels and the witches of the Midwest. Plus who can forget out favorite crossroads demon Harley. We hope this isn't the last time we have the together. What is in store for Scout and er people.? What will become of Evan? Until next time!
Including the cast from both books really wet my whistle! It was interesting seeing the view if the Winchester family from another perspective. Quite nicely indeed. I think more cross overs with these two main characters of Bay and Scout would be bringing me back for more. Great job.
Wonderful to have two of my favorite communities join together for a common goal. Oh, there are many more stories to tell between these two series. I just wish it wouldn't take so long between books. Nice to know that these different witches can make friends with each other appreciate and utilize each other's specialties.
Nearby town Hemlock Cove (from another series of books now on my to-read list) has problems - a dead body with a throat wound. Evan is from there. Did his vampire instincts cause him to kill? Scout and Gunner go there to find out. They find a family of witches and some very odd beings, even for them.
