Dragon Firefighters #1

Daddy From Flames

Rate this book
An M/M Mpreg Shifter Romance.

Pregnant and without an alpha, human omega Grayson must rely on his tenacity to provide for his unborn daughter. But when a fire claims his home and everything he’s struggled to work for, rescue comes in an unexpected form: the alpha dragon Altair and his flight of firefighters who reluctantly take Grayson into their custody.

Altair’s resentment of humanity is matched by a conflicting sense of duty to protect the town they share and all who call it home, human or dragon. He and his flight brothers have never had to deal with an omega before—let alone a human—and now they have one living under their roof! Everything Altair thought he knew about humans, omegas, and mates is called into question—and with Grayson’s baby on the way, he’s about to find out what it’s like to be a daddy.

Daddy From Flames is the first book in the Dragon Firefighters mpreg series. This book features dragon shifters, a human omega, firefighters, an industrial fantasy setting, pregnancy/birth, new dads, a cat, love healing wounds, action, fun, light drama, and, as always, a happily ever after.

Daddy From Flames is book one in the Dragon Firefighters series by Ashe Moon. This is my very first book by this author. This is an alpha/omega mpreg dragon shifter romance. I first saw an ad for the book which drew me in. When I looked it up, I fell in love with the cover and just knew I would love this. And, I did.

Grayson is a human omega, single and pregnant. He has been abandoned by everyone that was supposed to care about him. First, his father, then the alpha that got him pregnant. Now he is nearing his due date, working in a tavern because it’s the only job he could find. The tavern owner is allowing him to live upstairs in a room.

Altair is part of a three person dragon flight of alphas. Altair, Delos and Rainor live on the outskirts of Old Shore Port. Even though the humans in town fear them and don’t appreciate what they do, they protect the town, fighting fires. Lately there have been more fires than usual and Altair is starting to suspect that they might have an arsonist on their hands.

Grayson is not afraid of the dragons like so many others. He is curious about them. When the tavern he works in becomes the latest target of the arsonist, he finds himself with no job and nowhere to live. It’s Altair that comes to his rescue and now, Grayson finds himself living with three dragons.

As Grayson’s due date nears, he and Altair become increasingly closer. Even though he wants to believe that this could be his forever home, and that Altair wants to be his mate, there is a part of him that can’t let go of the idea that it’s all too good to be true. That Altair and the others will tire of him, just as everyone else has.

I loved this world and these characters. The three dragons have such soft hearts and Grayson was so strong, doing everything he possibly could to provide for his unborn child. I’m definitely hooked and can’t wait to read the next book, Secrets in Smoke, which is Rainor and the human police captain, Thomas’s book.

First of all, this is not a daddy/boy story. It is mpreg and found family.
Dragon shifters who are firefighters. A brilliant concept. The characters are pretty well done and interesting. The plot and the design of the world is beautiful.

Grayson is wonderful and it's absolutely beautiful how Altair takes care of him. But Grayson is no little mouse, er omega. He knows what he wants and doesn't let anything get him down. I admire the portrayal of the characters.

I was glad to be by myself. It didn’t matter what people thought about me, I would much rather have my daughter on my own than be stuck with someone awful. And it often felt like there were more awful alphas than good ones. I certainly hadn’t met any. 🤩

Unfortunately, the book lacks something, the emotional component didn't reach me. It's either me or the writing style. It was my first book by the author. I will probably have to read another one to find out why.
hmmm, love the other two dragons ...

This is my first Ashe Moon book, and while the writing is not going to win any awards, I found the dragon trio to be oddly endearing.

Altair, Rainor, and Delos are a flight (pack/family) and fight fires to protect the small village where they live. Altair is a fire dragon and can create heat in an instant.

Most humans in this world are wary and scared of dragons, but not Grayson. He's a single, pregnant omega abandoned by an alpha and works day and night at a tavern to make ends meet.

Altair saves Grayson's life not once but twice, and the two soon realize they belong together. This is all very sweet (and sexy too). Altair's heat turns sex into an absolute explosion, and Grayson enjoys it very, very much. A++ for the steam level.

Having said all that, I will admit that there were more than a few grammatical errors that made me cringe. The dialogue was also strangely wooden at times, and entire conversations were summarized (which is just lazy writing).

My biggest criticism, however, was that there was no sense of time and place. Clearly, this is a fantasy world. Initially, I thought of the setting as medieval or maybe Victorian, as there are mentions of taverns, market stalls, and horses carts, but there's also showers (which weren't common in America until the 1950s and even later in Europe), and everyone speaks modern American English. None of that gelled for me, which is why I'm rounding down my rating.

However, I really liked Rainor and Delos and am planning on reading their stories.

P.S. Don't let the title fool you. There is absolutely no Daddy/boy dynamic in this book.

I was kind of at a weird place with reading and I didn’t feel like reading anything I had lined up. So going through my TBR I found this book. This was the very first MM book I ever won! I don’t normally read fantasy, MPreg, shifter romances so it was a little different for me but I found I really enjoyed it!

I loved how Grayson and Altair took their time getting to know each other and didn’t rush into anything. The slow burn (no pun intended) was very prevalent and not much happened physically between them until the second half of the book. But it made sense with their characters and the story.

The story was really interesting and I loved the concept of the dragons trying to work with the humans. I look forward to seeing that continue more in book 2! Their ending was super cute!

A couple things to note. This is NOT a Daddy book. I saw this in another review before starting and I’m glad I wasn’t reading and waiting for that. Also Grayson felt almost a little two feminized at times. It almost felt like for 65% of the book Grayson was a woman and details shifted to male later on. Now, personally this didn’t bother me, it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the story but I just wanted to point that out incase that would be triggering for anyone.

I rather enjoyed this story and when I got to the end and started figuring out who book 2 was about it made me quite excited to read the next story! This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I look forward to reading more by them!

Loved it ! It was sweet, cute and warm ...can't wait for next book in the series !!!
Grayson is definitely my favorite character! Despite the bad hand he is dealt in life, he never loses hope and keeps fighting. How much he is willing to do for his loved ones was admirable.
And Altair was such an amazing, understanding and loving person.
I loved Dalia, Soot, Rainor and Delos too!

Not the kind of Daddy I was hoping for, but still good.

This was a solid introduction to the series - it definitely had its ups and downs but I still found it enjoyable. The world-building is fairly light in the grand scheme of things but I still really like the world that Ashe Moon has set up for this series. There's a clear divide between the dragons and the humans and Altair & Grayson as a couple are clearly the bridge needed between the two species.

I loved the interactions between Grayson and the whole flight. Rainor & Delos warming up to him and then totally falling head over heels for Dalia was freakin' adorable! Delos, as the quiet & broody character, already has a special place in my heart and I CAN'T WAIT for his story - I already know it's bound to be good.

Overall? Good but not great. You can tell that this book acts as more of a set up for the series and the sex scenes (while still good) weren't anything amazing. At first, it kind of sounded like there was something unique about fucking a dragon but it reads like regular ol' smut. Don't get me wrong, we still love our tried-and-true generic smut, but it was also written pretty generically and it wasn't as engrossing as I'd hoped it would be.

This was just what I needed after reading so many "heavy" books back to back.

This was adorable, cute, definitely sexy and all fluff.

Grayson tugged at my heartstrings, he was so freaking adorable and he went through so much, I just wanted to hug him.

I loved all the Alpha dragons and I can't wait for Rainor and Delos to find their mates.

A good start to a cute series.

Just ok. I liked the world Ashe Moon has built for this series and everything about the dragon shifters, but the romance in this book didn't do it for me.

Nice start to a dragon shifter series. When your mate is the one who saves you. Both men needed saving both men saved each other. I love the world set up and the fact that the world from the past. Muskets and taverns The riding was OK the smexy was Nothing to write home about, the side characters are the brothers who will eventually have their own books. The way it’s set up it seems like this would not be a standalone. This book doesn’t go really in depth into things which I wish it did but maybe the other books will. Very on the surface type of book. Also I wish there were a few more shifter/mate type things involved. It was like so your my mate now. Ok group hug. No claiming, knots or anything.

Not enough—not nearly enough! If you’re going to bring babies into this, then actually bring the babies into this!

Grayson’s insecurities about his and his daughter’s place in the flight should have been addressed and resolved before the author even thought about ending this book. Instead, all the important emotional beats were skipped, leaving the story feeling unfinished.

The sex was okay, but doing it with someone nearly ready to deliver a baby? Not okay, not cool. That scene didn’t land, and it cheapened their emotional bond for me.

A sweet romantic tale of Grayson, a human pregnant omega now living on his own, hand to mouth. When the building where he works and lives in an apartment on the top floor catches fire, the dragon fire brigade swoops in and douses the fire, but not before Grayson loses everything. The dragon fire brigade is a trio of dragons who've formed their own flight and fight to protect the town from fires.

Honestly, this had more sweetness than substance, but it did have an evil arsonist and gave readers plenty of time to get to know Grayson and root for him. He and Altair, one of the dragons, finally gave in to their attraction and... well, you'd have to read this. But sweet is the watch word here.

Enjoyable start to a new series

Let there be Dragons! I felt sorry for Greyson who was dumped by his alphahole after getting pregnant. He is trying to take care of himself and saving money so he can move out of the attic over the tavern he works in. Along comes Altair, bit alpha dragon that Greyson is not afraid of. I loved watch how Altair and the other two in the flight hearts start to warm towards humans. I really enjoy it and now I’m off for the next book.

I have to say I was expecting something different, but I liked the book anyway. Especially for the characters, I loved Delos, he is supposed to be the coldest dragon, but he is the one with the most tender heart. Altair and Grayson are a loving couple and although I would have liked to see a slightly more developed plot, I have enjoyed reading.

I liked the story line , the delivery is what I had issues with. I don’t know maybe it’s just me who failed to connect with the MC’s 🤨 or the author’s writing style. I won’t be continuing with the series
