Running From Monsters

Rate this book
Each new day, I feel Luca is getting closer to me. Closer to finishing what he started. The only problem is, I won’t survive this time.

Avery
When Asher told me he knew who I am, I swear my heart stopped. All I wanted to do was run and hide, far away from everything and everyone. There’s no place safer for me, then Blackwood Academy.

The deception of what’s to come is overwhelming enough to make me get out of here as fast as I can. To top it off Asher has disappeared, and no one knows where he’s at. Could this be another game of his?

I’m stuck.
Terrified.
Annoyed.
…and desperate.

I need to keep my head in the game, because that’s all this is-I’m entertainment for two ruthless monsters.
I will get out of this. I will get my life back, that rightfully belongs to be.
I don’t care what needs to be done. The only choice I have now is to fight for my future, and for what was taken from me.

This is not your average love story, this is a Dark Romance intended only for mature readers. TRIGGER warnings apply.

Sorry what now …

Okay full disclosure I’m upset.
So I waited and waited, kept checking the authors name to see if this had come out yet. The series was left hanging for so long. Which okay sucks for me but that’s the authors right , so I sucked it up kept looking….

Well how joyful that the second installment was there. Woah yay. Purchased it. Opened it and started reading.

Well.

If you can look past the non consetual aspects of the interactions, which by the way are disturbing and totally Unbelievable. The “Just coz he’s hot it’s okay”, bs is probably setting back the me too movement 100 years.
So this girl has a horrible past with her ex who abused her, but totally okay that in her SLEEP this guy just starts doing whatever he wants to her. 🤮 no. Yuck. No.

The worst part is that it’s written in such a way that you have slab text. If you get 2 lines of monologue for every 8 pages your lucky. So you don’t get this build up of interest or friendship. You are just told stuff. TOLD TOLD TOLD. no that’s rubbish reading. If I wanted slab text facts I’d read an encyclopedia. That at least had pictures for enhancement purposes.

And what in the ever loving god is with the editing? Did suffering read over this book or just wing it and hope for the very best? Twice I found Tate and take… not to mention the grammar and the other miss spelt words, sentences that dont make sense or don’t read well at all. Paragraphs that are supposed to be negative and positive… so instead of ‘he should have asked’ it should have been ‘he should t have asked’ and so on. Why …

Why rush it? Why not edit it. Why. The story was good. It was a good foundation and there was a lot to deconstruct that was interesting.

No emotional growth of any of the characters. If anything they devolve completely. Lots of getting assaulted by other people. Getting beat up.

I could go on and on and on and on.

Not for me.

I respect the author put in time and effort into this story to try and bring it to life. But this was not my expectation of a published novel of this genre.

This cliffhanger is gonna kill me!

I felt like we waited forever fir this second book! And it was so worth the wait! So much happens in such a small time frame. And most if it is painful. You just want to wrap Avery up and never let need leave her room because whenever she does she gets hurt! This book was intense and crazy and I can’t wait to read the next book! Especially since we are left on the craziest of all cliffhangers!

🌟🌟

I’m sorry, I simply can’t give a higher rating than this.

Literally, Avery goes from hating the main character to being in love with him. Asher doesn’t really respect Avery’s grandfather then he admits to him that he is in love with his granddaughter. Like GTFOH.

The story is disjointed and I feel like there is no character development.

The plot is good, which is the only reason I’m continuing to read the series, but even the story isn’t great.

Okay I have a love hate relationship with this series. The things I like Avery is strong even though she's been threw some stuff her grandfather is there for her and she has a really good bestfriend Tate and even though I want to strangle Asher by the end of the book he finally stopped being a complete Alphahole he was still kinda and idiot but he was more gentle with Avery after her last trauma and there is really good chemistrybetween Asher and Avery all good things about the book. Things I didn't care for and I was left thinking are you kidding me. Point one both the H's spend to much time with dialogue in there heads, some people and I won't say who shouldn't have been allowed to keep breathing the sexy times felt a little to drawn out then a cliffhanger the rat was obvious and well this book doesn't feel very much Mob like the Moretti Brothers for all there psyco demented tendencies were what real Mob guys would act like and also this book doesn't seem like a Highschool book either. The author got the original bad guy Luca just Wright he's supper creepy. But I'm not bashing this book it just needs some tweaks less dialogue in character's head's and more Mob action I'm still interested in reading the next book to see what happens next. So in the end I'm rating this a 3.4.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

In this second book Avery is going to see again her psychopath ex Luca and the reunion doesn’t end well for her. Luca is certainly not going to give up until he gets her back.
The relationship between Avery and Asher, although at first is continues as before, him pursuing her and she rejecting him, improves especially when Asher changes his ways a bit. And when he protects both her and Tate.
And it’s that Tate’s brothers finally find her and things end very badly for the girls, although they live to tell about it.
The end of the book, like the previous one, ends with a deadly cliffhanger, leaving you with a tremendous desire to read the next book to see what happens.
I’m super hooked on this story.

“I haven’t tasted you yet, and I’m definitely not done fucking you. We will get you the morning after pill or whatever it is you girl’s use, if you’re not already on it, we’ll get it. I plan on staying in this bed with you all weekend.”

confusing

Has so much potential
Again like I’ve already said the story plot is good but it’s the characters are written badly I think.

For somebody who suppose to be feared I feel like Asher isnt this cruel monster
He doesn’t need to be going school for starters as he can have somebody arrange his grades if he wanted them
He could of had his nephews destroyed after what happened
He makes out Avery is his obsession and wants her but goes about it like a rapist
Also he doesn’t seem as scary as he should be, he apparently cares but seems like his version of caring is demanding sex
Yeah I could go on how this character is confusing and contracting himself all the time
Considering these characters suppose to from scary Mafia, cartel families they don’t come across like you expect

Good

Why did this author leave this book on another cliffhanger, thought maybe after doing it in book one they wouldn’t do it again.
I am enjoying Avery & Asher’s story and the surrounding characters however I still can’t believe after all the time spent with her Grandfather she hasn’t even asked him why she was told he was dead.
I didn’t like the part in her room when he touched her while she was asleep, while he was talking in his own head that he wasn’t a Taoist and would never force a woman.
Then going from hating him and wanting nothing to do with him once she heard he found her on the basement floor injured she just forgave everything and even said do your my boyfriend now🤷🏼‍♀️
Tate & Carter definitely have some chemistry and can probably see a book on them two.

Overall the story is good so far. I have a love/hate relationship with the FMC I feel like she let's Asher get away with way too much and it makes parts of the story unbelievable. He treats her like crazy from day one and she says she hates it but as soon as he kisses her she is OK with it? By the end of this book they are in a relationship but he has never once apologized or asked for her forgiveness and she just falls in his arms, like really! There is good development with the rest of the characters that keeps the story interesting.

Avery and Asher continue - 2nd Book

Running from Monsters is the second book in the Blackwood Academy series. I had read the first book, Hiding from Monsters, and even though it was not for me I decided to pick up the second book just to see if I could get into the series. This book continues the story of Avery and Asher. Well it turns out that this was more my book but still not as much as the Moretti Siblings series.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own and I know that other readers will love this book and the series. So if you are a fan of the author already then pick it up and make up your own mind.

Good lord almighty! I need more!!!

I barreled through this book like a starving woman finally getting her next meal. I normally don’t like to give five stars to books that end in a cliffhanger but I absolutely loved the story. You know a book is so good when you can go into your own little world, forget about everything that’s happening around you and just submerse yourself into the story. Definitely an emotional roller coaster. I fell for these characters and can not wait for the next book. K. J. Thomas is an amazing author. I will be checking out all her other books while I wait patiently to find out what happens next.

The series is good but i think it should be more than 200 pages. I feel like the story needs more details instead of jumping from one event to another so fast with no in-between to explain. Im done with book 2 and still have no idea what Asher or Avery look like. She was captured by Luca in a scene and let go but no explanation of what happened and then next day she just goes to Tate's house like nothing happened. I would have thought the grandfather would have put her in a lockdown or something. I like the books, the story line is great i just feel that if its a mafia love story then make it a mafia love story not a high school obsession/bully with a little bit of mafia involvement.

I am loving this series I liked this book better than the first, It had better flow to it and I really like that the author put more insight into the characters with this book! I like that the characters are flawed and it shows with their actions. This is turning into a really good series! Can not wait for more from K.J..

Roller Coaster Ride

I feel line I’m on a roller coaster ride, with all of its twists and turns. All the highs and lows, let’s not forget the unexpected banking right.
This book is the true meaning to RUNNING from Monsters.

I’m SO looking forward to seeing the next episode.

Asher and Avery

Honestly there is no other works but amazing for this book. I was in love with both Asher and Avery in book one. Book two sealed the deal. I love the way they came together towards the end of the book. I love we get some backstory on Tate. Also we finally meet her sick and twisted brothers. I can’t wait for book three. It is going to be so hard waiting. That cliffhanger killed me.

Second book in the series , some good some bad.

So, the plot continues Asher is an obsessive boss, Avery is dispatching her back for luca. The plot thickened with the I introduction of Tates brothers. I did to find lot of this book repetative and I really wanted to have more build up between Asher and avery, he was away for a good but of the book. However, all in all it kept me entertained and the cliff hanger at the end was great.

It was okay

I loved the continuation of the story between Avery and Asher, but I would love to see the relationship develop more between them before they were suddenly together.

You get to see more of Tates’s story in this book which is fantastic, as I love Tate as a side character.

Good storyline, a fair bit of violence and easy to read (nothing triggers me).

It ends on a cliffhanger.

Started good, finished badly

So… the first book was okay. Not perfect, but between 3.5 and 4 stars. However, this one is bad. So rushed and unbelievable that it is not even funny. Like for real - one moment I could not understand what was happening. I still do not understand how Avery fell in love with Asher. It felt like she did it just after one good evening. No, not believable at all.

Asher is an awful entitled jerk. He's so full of himself. He's a sleazy rapist and for some reason Avery still fell for him. Man does she have low standards. There is nothing attractive about this guy at all. He is so ugly.

All the Mancini men are horrible POS. I feel so bad for Tate that she has to be related to them. Her brothers got off way too easily.

Also, Avery's bodyguards are freaking useless.

I really love this author and this story was no different. The first person point of view is a deal breaker and a must. Oh my God, this cliffhanger is going to be the death of me. I was shocked. I cannot wait for the next one.

Survival of the Fittest

After learning who she is, Asher makes Avery's high school experience difficult. You could say almost unbearable. Yet, somehow Avery survives. She is strong, resilient, and determined. Asher is still obsessed and in love whether he wants to be or not. Secrets are finally revealed and still, our main couple are still in danger. This ends in a cliffhanger.

This series is so on your edge seating. Believe it or not, but Asher isn't the scariest man out there; Luca and the Mancini brothers are. I hope Tate gets her story told too. More, please.

Running from monsters

Waited a long time for this sequel. It was good, Avery didn't disappoint, I love her and bravery. That girl doesn't back down from anything. I love what she has gone through has not broken her, it made her stronger and you can see that in this book. I can't wait for the 3rd book with a cliffhanger like that.

I did it and managed to get through book 2. Didn't improve like I hoped. Sometimes writers take a little longer in the start, and usually, books progress smoother as they go one. I'm not a part of the mafia, but even I know most of this is incorrect and not even slightly plausible.

The main couple went from ice cold to very hot. A small middle of the book touched on running from a monster, which I assumed was the ex from book 2.

The writer doesn't understand timelines and that she needs to be more realistic about how events should mature. I feel like an editor should have caught most of these issues. I was able to read free with my Kindle, but I feel for anyone who paid for them.
