The Planet Earth has been invaded by a group of Alcoholic Aliens on the run from the intergalactic police in a stolen spaceship that pumps out toxic waste
When a group of thieving alcoholic aliens come bumping and burping across the universe, they create a mass of toxic waste. After discovering a leak, they realize they need to dispose of it quickly before it kills them. On top of that, and probably a bigger problem, the gung-ho, trigger-happy captain is not amused that their ship is becoming dry after 100 years of being drunk. Young Harry the engineer, (a nice guy who is newly appointed after the captain shot his boss), is left to devise a plan to put everything right. His idea is to hide on the Moon and send shuttles down to Earth to drop off their toxic waste and re-stock up on booze. What could possibly go wrong? A retired policeman, a landlord and an unemployed computer engineer are about to have their lives turned upside-down and inside-out. They'll need excessive good luck, a strong stomach and a sense of humour for everything that's coming their way.
What readers are saying about Toxic Beer
It has been a while since I have read such a funny book. Toxic Beer by Simon Bullock is a book I enjoyed from the word go. This story is about aliens who had accidentally happened upon our planet. They had to make this stop to fix the ship and get rid of all the toxic waste before they could finally set course and go home. The engine seemed to produce more toxic waste than the pump could handle. Harry was designated the task of being the chief engineer, and his work was to find a way to fix the ship. Harry had to delegate some tasks to his fellow aliens. The weird part is that they had found a way to sell the toxic Waste as Beer to humans.
If you are a fan of drama and comedy, this is your go-to book. This book is easy and fun to read. Most sci-fi stories are too complicated to follow, but this one is so engaging and easy to enjoy. Simon Bullock has done an excellent job writing this book, and his sense of humour is outstanding. The characters I enjoyed reading the most were Chase and Dave. These characters were entertaining, and they always managed to screw up all the plans. I like alien stories and movies, and that is why I chose to read this book. I am not disappointed. What I liked most about this book is how the story flows effortlessly chapter after chapter. The sense of humour will make you enjoy this book. I found the storyline exceptional. The aliens could drink anything that smelled of alcohol, and they travelled through every different galaxy and planet for booze. This story makes you question the existence of aliens since they could camouflage and fit in. It was impossible to differentiate them from humans.
There is nothing I disliked about this book. The editing was professional, the errors were just a few, and they could not hinder the enjoyment of this book. I like how the author did not complicate the story by explaining a lot about space or the spaceships. For people who want to enjoy a good alien story without technical explanations, this is your go-to book.
I would highly recommend this book to young adults and adults who are interested in sci-fi stories. Toxic Beer is full of humour, drama, and action.
I award this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars because the flow of the story was fantastic and easy to understand. Book Club.org reader review
Toxic Beer by Simon Bullock is an outstanding, entertaining and humorous science fiction novel that will have you laughing out loud and craving for the movie version!
Simon Bullock obviously has a very wild imagination and a wonderful sense of humour! His writing is totally tongue-in-cheek, and I do think this would make a great movie and could happily sit between Red Dwarf and Galaxy Quest! Suppose you're looking for an original and entertaining first contact space opera that will have you laughing from start to finish. In that case, Toxic Beer is the perfect read for you. Hilarious, adventurous and totally original Toxic Beer by Simon Bullock comes highly recommended by Artisan Book Reviews.
Simon, who works as a medical engineer, has had a lifelong passion for writing as well as sci-fi comedy.
Toxic Beer has been a decade in the making but, as readers and critics alike attest, has been worth the wait. Simon’s zany, joke-rich and earthy storytelling will appeal to anyone who loves the likes of Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide, the writing of Robert Rankin, as well as classic British TV sci-fi comedy show Red Dwarf and cult sci-fi comedy film Galaxy Quest.
With his first, critically-acclaimed novel having gone down better with readers than a cool pint on a scorching day, Simon is now working on a follow-up to Toxic Beer – a prequel revealing the bleary-eyed aliens’ escapades during their extended inter-galactic booze cruise.
A hoopy frood who always knows where his towel is, Simon also plays blues harp in rising Dutch blues band, BluesShack.
Originally from the UK, Simon currently lives in Utrecht, Netherlands with his wife Chrissie and two cats. In his free time he enjoys cooking and likes to brew homemade beer with more kick than an Arcturian MegaDonkey.
This is a fun and entertaining sci-fi adventure filled with quirky drunken aliens, and slightly smarter humans. There is a sinister plan afoot by the aliens to unload toxic waste on our somewhat pristine planet in exchange for their beverage of choice – beer. Since the aliens have far superior but questionable tech they seem to think they can get away with it. They however miscalculated the bond between humans and the fact that the alien’s on-board computer weren’t about to let them get away with it. There are lots of laughs and a few twists and turns to keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a good read and a tasty beer. Enjoy!
Simon Bullock brings us a quirky, humorous, off-the-rails alien encounter with Toxic Beer! When a group of drunk aliens spring a toxic leak on their ship, they land on our Moon to make repairs. Unfortunately, part of that process involves dumping toxic waste on Earth while making a quick beer run, something that leads to a chaotic encounter with the humans. Bullock brings a lot of dry humor in to create this off-the-rails adventure that makes it an all around fun examination of our place in the universe, similar to Hitchhiker’s Guide! It’s quirky and out there, similar to Evolution, so if you’re looking for something a little out of this world, grab your breathalyzer and check out Toxic Beer!
The crew of a UFO realize their ship is completely filled with toxic waste. They discover Earth and lo and behold, our beer will work as fuel for them and the waste is mostly harmless to humans. They plot how to get rid of the yucky stuff and intain beer. The plot was OK. The characters were flat as a pancake and interchangeable. And the author needs a new editor. Spelling wasn't an issue, but punctuation was horrific. Periods in middle of sentences. Semicolons in the middle of sentences. Two chapters ended in the of sentences.
I thought the book was clever and unusual. Aliens running around the galaxy in search of alchohol? What could go wrong with that? This is book one in the series so I'm hoping the author fills in more of the characters but this is fun read.
I like reading humorous space science fiction. Sometimes more to the humorous side. Heck we all need more humor these days. I also like reading the works of people just starting out. The first couple stories are the hardest ones to write.
This book was a little funny, not too bad but certainly entertaining in a quirky way. This would make a good Saturday night live movie or something of the sorts. Worth reading this short story book, but I think would be better in a short movie or skit form.
