Chasing Alys

Rate this book
When love’s song takes over, you’re forced to find the beat.

Ryan Evans is the very definition of heartbreaker. Women line up so he can rock their worlds.

Except me.

I’m determined to resist Ryan's charms. Who cares if he has striking blue eyes, and a voice that lights me up. Our beats are thoroughly out of sync. I am definitely, one hundred per cent, never again waking up to a stupid thank you note, for a night that probably shouldn’t have happened, with a guy who’s already on a plane out of here.

Heartbreak has been my dance partner for years, but I’m done. Love is a complication I no longer want. Especially from a rock star.

But there’s something about Ryan. Maybe it's his charming determination to get past my defences. He creeps into my heart… and my bed, until I’m so wound up in him, there’s only one way it can possibly end…

Chasing Alys is a slow burn steamy rock star romance. It is the first book following Rhiannon and the first in the True Platinum Series. If you enjoy obsessed cinnamon roll heroes, take no-nonsense heroines and hook ups gone wrong, you'll love Chasing Alys.

I have admit that Rockstar Romances are usually not my go to genre but after reading Morgana’s debut book (Between Takes) I was intrigued by Alys and the brief glimpse we got of Ryan and I was enthralled with their story.

I loved both Alys and Ryan equally, which is pretty strange for me as I normally have a favourite but with these characters I fell in love them both.

As you would except with a rockstar romance, our main male character is flawed but in a way that makes you want to take him by the shoulders and wrap your arms around him. As a raising musician, it was a breathe of fresh air to see a shyness and awkwardness to this rockstar, it just makes you fall in love with him a little bit more.

Just like our male character was flawed so too was Alys. Her need to protect herself from heartbreak was something that I could totally relate to, which made it so rewarding to see her open up through the book and let Ryan in. I loved that fact that she made Ryan work for her heart but also to see her character evolve into a more confident woman was a pleasure to read.

Together, the chemistry between the couple was most certainly steamy and well written. The interaction between the characters never felt forced or rushed and I think because of Morgana’s attention to detail made their relationship more relatable. I love relationships that feel genuine.

Overall, this was a fantastic book. It gave all the steaminess that I would except from a rockstar and his leading lady and the story line was well written with a high level of detail that made me feel like I was salsa dancing with Alys or stranding front row at Ryan's concerts. I seriously cant wait to read more from The True Platinum Series.

Okay so I will say I really enjoyed this book and loved diving in the rockstar world with Ryan and Alys!! They had amazing chemistry and just everything about them made my heart melt!!

For some reason this book took me a bit to get into and it might have been because I was frustrated with Alys BUT I will say it definitely got better as I progressed into the book and the ending was *chefs kiss* I loved a lot about it, and Ryan is freaking everything!!!! Onto the next rockstar please 😏😏😏😏

Alys has been burnt by guys before and Ryan, the rising star rocker, is one she is trying to avoid. But of course, eventually they begin a relationship, which is fraught with anxiety, angst and love. The characters have flaws just like the rest of us, but they are written so that they are believable people. It's great to read about what happens behind the scenes in production and the actual stage show. I love to learn about this, and the author has researched it well. The story ends with a satisfying HEA, but it takes you on a captivating journey first.

“Chasing Alys” is a sweet, dramatic, contemporary romance of two people who are complete opposites coming together.

Those of us who have been on the dating scene know how difficult it is to get over a breakup. You hate the feeling of heartbreak and at times decide to give up on love entirely. That is what Alys also does until she meets Ryan. I enjoyed how the author approached the story and found Alys to be the highlight. The author wrote her emotions realistically where you slowly start to see her open her heart and take a risk, especially with a person like Ryan, where all signs point to it not ending well (since he is a rockstar in a band).

Moreover, I also loved the other characters like Ryan and Emily. I liked how the author added various layers to Ryan, especially when we find out about the relationship he had with his father. Ryan and Alys share an electrifying romance, and the author does not shy away from steaming the pages when they are together. Similarly, Emily is intriguing and was my favorite character. The author pretty much writes her intentions as a question mark, so you don’t know if she is a true friend to Alys or not. I found Emily to be fascinating and wondered what she would do next.

The author also adds drama to the story, like when Alys feels lightheaded or plans for a picnic or when she thinks Ryan is avoiding her after they are intimate. On a side note, I also enjoyed the movie and other pop culture references like “He’s not that into you.”

Overall, I enjoyed reading “Chasing Alys” and found it a sweet guilty pleasure read.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Before I jump into my review, I wanted to backtrack for a second. Full disclosure: I am not really a big fan of rock-star romance. I know it can be said with a lot of romance genres and tropes, but I just find them to be so one-note (pun intended). I think what I find so tedious about them is that it's usually about a band member with a serious substance abuse problem and commitment allergies trying to find love, and I can only name a couple that had depth.

That concern made me wary about tackling Morgana Bevan's latest release Chasing Alys. BUT I loved Between Takes, so I wanted to give this a shot.

And Morgana did not disappoint.

What I loved about Chasing Alys was that it did not follow the stereotypical rock star romance trope. Ryan is sweet, kind, and wholesome. He genuinely cares about Alys, is forthcoming with his feelings and intentions, and respects her boundaries.

I think both Alys and I were thrown for a loop at this twist.

While she was the one with understandable commitment issues, what I adore about Alys is that she is smart, loyal, and tough. Two books in, I find that this seems to be a consistent theme in Morgan Bevan's heroines, and I love it.

I thought this book was so refreshing. It is somewhat of a slow burn as Ryan and Alys go through becoming friends and processing their attraction to each other.

If you feel the same way about rock star romance as I do, I would definitely recommend picking up this book. It has set the bar high for other books in that genre for me.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book.**

This book is addictive! I have to give it a 5 out of 5 stars! Morgana Bevan's first book makes me itch for her next one to come out. I have read other rock star romances and this one is one that stands out. I loved the new take on this type of romance. This is a well written and well thought out book, I throughly enjoyed. It has a Pepper rating of Jalepeno Pepper, it has a nice burn with some hot scenes. I think that this book series could be an amazing series. I loved the dynamic of the main characters and the supporting characters have you wanting to read more about them. I am hoping that all the Rhiannon Band members get a book of their own so that we can learn more about them. This is the only modern book that I have read that takes place in Wales, and I like that it is not set in the typical places in the UK.

There is only one thing I wished about this book, however it is more a personal opinion than anything. I would have liked to know Ryan's (the main character's love interest) side of the story. But other than that I wouldn't change anything about this book, it was well written and thought out with moments that you weren't sure what was going to happen. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romances stories, especially rockstar romances with some explict sexy scenes.

I hope that this has helped you find your next Tantalizing Tome!

Friends, I am excited to give my first ARC Review.

Chasing Alys
Morgana Bevan.

Stars- ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5
Spice- 🌶🌶/ 5

This is the first book in True Platinum series. If you love a rock star romance this is for you.

This is a tad different from other rock star romances I have read. There is no substance abuse or any of the normal “bad rockstar” traits. Our Romanic interest Ryan is dare I say the perfect guy? I fell in love with him and how far he was willing to chase Alys (see my clever wording?)

I will say I wish we got more background about Ryan the author did touch on him but much of the focus was on Alys. Alys has a huge fear of commitment and being hurt. At points I felt it was to much and she was self deprecating but it added to the story.

This is a series so I’m excited to see the author grow and add more of the band members into the story.

Lastly the play list is fire, All time low, the Maine, you me at six, Fleetwood Mac! Need I say more?

Huge shout out for Morgana Bevan for the ARC

Alys Morgan is done with men. Or she was until Ryan walked into her life. She wasn’t prepared for one kiss to haunt her or a charismatic rockstar to ambush her all over Cardiff. Burned too many times, she’s resistant to his pursuit but Ryan’s nothing if not determined.

Chasing Alys is a steamy, slow burn rock star romance following a jaded tv production coordinator who's been burnt one too many times and a cinnamon roll rock star who just won't quit.

Available on all platforms and in Kobo Plus.

This was a very fun ride! Aside from a compelling story, it was an interesting peek into a lot of different worlds--the experiences of a rising musician, the grunt work of TV production, life in Wales, etc. I love books where I come away feeling like I've learned a little something while I read.

Both of the MCs are nice, but flawed people. Alys has major trust issues and Ryan is not the best at communication. This causes plenty of obstacles between them, despite their chemistry and affection for each other. I was definitely cheering for them to work through it, though, and enjoying the steam along the way!

The most telling thing I can probably say after reading this is that it inspired me to download Between Takes (another work by this author that seems to be set in this universe) and I can't wait to start it!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

What was not to love about this book? I am not sure if that was the end of Alys and Ryan's story, but I wanted to keep reading. Give me more!!. I love a good rockstar storyline! Alys made me a little crazy with her apprehension, but I understood why. When a character makes you want to pull your hair out, that's a sign of good writing. She made him work for it...not instantly falling head over heels like other books, and I love it. I hope we will get to read more about her best friend and other musicians in Rhiannon as well!! Bring on book 2.

So after reading between takes, I had a feeling I was going to adore this book just as much 🥰 I now have a thing for rockstar romance books, anyone know where I can find myself one? 😉 neither of our lead characters are perfect, they both have their flaws, which actually made them perfect for each other. I related to Alys, I too built walls up around my heart afraid of more heartbreak. But again, I too slowly opened up to love again, which was so rewarding watching her journey with Ryan throughout doing the same, although she didn't make it easy for him!! There is just the right amount of steam and oozing chemistry between the pair. Really enjoyed this book 👌🏼

Chasing Alys is the first book in the True Platinum series by Morgana Bevan.

It is a very realistic story, a beautiful description of someone who is hurt in the past, slowly opening up her heart for a new love while battling the anxiety that comes with it.
The story gives a peek into the world of an up and coming rock band and TV production, I enjoyed that aspect of the book.

Ryan was perfect, so sweet, kind, and patient. He is one of those characters you can't not love.
I liked that Ryan wasn't the typical bad boy addicted to drugs and/or alcohol like most other rockstar romances.
While Alys apprehension was understandable, it sometimes drove me crazy. Especially at the start, I wanted to yell at her, but it got better while I got to know and understand her.
There is some going back and forth between this couple, something I never enjoy in stories but easy to get over.
I enjoyed this couple's easy banter and flirting. They had an intense connection from the start, and it only got stronger while the story progressed.
The first steamy scene appeared 42% into the story. The sex scenes were good, but they were a bit short and not very descriptive for a smut lover like me.

The storyline is very detailed, this made me really get to know these characters and made me feel like I was part of the story.
The writing is captivating and very easy to read.

I don't read many rockstar romances, but I enjoyed Chasing Alys. I think it is a good, enjoyable book for all lovers of contemporary and rockstar romance.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I was an ARC reader for Chasing Alys (True Platinum Series Book 1) for by Morgana Bevan. My review is based on my own opinions, and I was not coerced or compensated for it.

Will Ryan spin his way into her heart, can she see herself with a rockstar or will their attraction burn out.

Back in Cardiff having a break from her job Alys and her best friend venture out on the town. Alys loves a good swing dance lesson and spending time with her bestie seemed like a perfect night. Emily wanted them too see her favourite band Rhiannon but the night didn't turn out as they both planned.

What Alys didn't expect was to run into a man like Ryan. Not knowing who he was she thought him to be devilishly handsome with a great personality, and she kept running into him at various places and he wouldn't stop chasing her for a date. He intrigued her, with each encounter the hotter the sexual tension became.

The plot was credible and extremely well written.

Through detailed, believable descriptions, I became emotionally linked to the story, standing in the crowd, listening to him perform or being on the TV set with her, I felt apart of their journey. I loved the references throughout... the movie Coyote Ugly (being a favourite of mine) and the mention of Bryan Adams, gave me a chance to connect. I gained a sense of their depth, vulnerabilities, strengths, weaknesses and loyalties.

Despite Ryan’s persistence, you could see the internal battle Alys experienced and that the attraction scared her. He wouldn't give up.

She had built walls around her heart to keep people at arms length and to protect herself from heartache.

Will she dare let Ryan in? Will he be able to break the walls and convince her to give him a chance? Can she face her own fears when a problem arises between them or will fear destroy what could be?

The sex was intense.

Morgana Bevan's writing has an effortlessness to it. I found myself lost in the story, a break from today's reality.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series and welcome the chance to read more of Morgana's work.

A definite must read.

Morgana Bevan is new to me, and I'm fascinated by her. The way she crafted such complex characters amazes me. It is what kept me glued to the book. I enjoyed watching Alys open up and getting to know Ryan a little. I would have liked more on him, but the book is called "Chasing Alys" for a reason. I think what I appreciated the most about this book is that most rockstar romance novels are that the rockstar typically has a substance abuse problem. That was not the case.

I'm hoping this becomes a series because there are some characters I would like to get to know. Bevan has a way of creating flawed, but relatable characters, and you can't help but root for their happy ending. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Ryan Evans is an up and coming rock star, and women tend to fall at his feet. When he sets his sight on Alys, she is determined to resist him. But Ryan is a charmer, and he refuses to give up. Slowly but surely, Alys begins to feel him chipping away at her defenses, and it terrifies her. If she lets down her walls, then Ryan will have the power to hurt her… and Alys has been hurt far too many times already.

This book was super cute! I loved how much work Ryan had to do to convince Alys that he was serious about her. And I liked that Alys always did what she thought was right. They had this kind of instantaneous attraction that was so incredibly obvious, but Alys tried really hard to deny. All in all, it was a good story, and I would recommend it to any rockstar romance lover.

For a debut writing, this book is everything; all the feels you get growing between Ryan and Alys, was just so very good. He really did chase her, as the title states, and it was satisfying that he never gave up. They were really good for each other, once they let their insecurities about EVERYTHING go - not without some hurt and misunderstandings - but this couple is so good and deserve their HEA.

As for the side characters - Emily is a hoot; and Ryan's bandmate, Jared - well I'm thinking he's met his match with a certain someone, and now he doesn't know what he wants - hopefully there will be a book about him SOON!

This book deals with harsh realities and fears for relationships while dating a rock star. I love the author's perspective on it and the lack of insane drama in the story. I love the playlist at the beginning of this rockstar romance book. This is the first book in the Platinum series. Alys works on show onset, but she loves to dance. She meets a hot guy at a bar while waiting for her friend Emily. Ryan sure is charismatic and charming.

Unfortunately, she finely gets her head on straight and goes in search of her best friend. Only to find her heartbroken in the bathtub. I'm wondering how this Ryan will come into play and when since it seems they have sworn off men. Oh, an exciting night out and a few unexpected conversations lead to her discovering who Ryan is. I love that he is determined to chase her.

Unfortunately, she finely gets her head on straight and only gets stood up by her best friend. I loved the flirting between her and Ryan. Only to find a heart broke Emily in the bathtub. I'm wondering how this Ryan will come into play and why Alys has sworn off men. Oh, an exciting night out and a few unexpected surprises less to her discovering who Ryan is. I love that he is determined to chase her.

They give in to their carnal urges, and this hook gets steamy. However, all the fear comes to light. But I love the friend interference she is receiving. They finally agree to give it a try, and wow, does it get steamy. But then both their fears and insecurities surface, leaving than both vulnerable to doubt. How can they do this long-distance? Will she get over her past and fears or run away?

This book brings those fears to light, and she doesn't react well. This book ends sweet and unexpected.

I loved this rockstar romance read if it had spice, sweet moments, and of course, a super hot leading man. I look forward to reading more in this series by this author.

I really loved this rock star romance. It gave a glimpse of the rock star world, TV production, relationship dread,
friendship, and trust! I really enjoyed the story.

Alys has a history of bad relationships and trust issues. When she meets the "perfect man" Ryan, we get to
watch their relationship unfold. At times I wanted to shake Alys, all the more reason I loved the book.
I was drawn in and invested in their world.

My new favorite rock star romance! I absolutely loved Ryan, the lead singer of Rhiannon. He is sweet, loving, and determined to catch Alys. Alys has been burned many times by the men in her life and only has her father and best friend to help her through life. She works hard and no longer has time for dating games. However, Ryan is in too deep and isn't willing to give up on Alys. I truly loved the added friendship and fun from the band and Alys' best friend. I hope to read more stories about the other band members, I loved this author's writing style, it was witty, fun, and the chemistry was unmistakable.

Ryan was very caring and trusting towards Alys. She has had a harder time finding love than normal people. Pretty much everything has gone wrong. Ryan though works hard at breaking down those walls. This was a nice rockstar romance.

Trusting Ryan . . .

Ryan Evans is a surprise to many of us. He is a decent person, not into the normal rock star nasty stuff, and genuinely cares about Alys. Unfortunately, she seems less than enthusiastic about getting into a relationship, expecting the usual heartbreak and lies. Can he prove to her that he is not like any others she has been with? Can he get her to trust her heart this time?

Okay, so, wow! I loved all the emotions in this one. Both Alys and Ryan have the same emotions and insecurities any other person would have. Throw in the rising fame and you have amplified feelings that neither is sure how to control.

The back and forth between these two is so sweet. I understand Alys’s hesitation to get romantically involved after her previous dating experiences. But with Ryan’s persistence and unwavering support, who wouldn’t fall in love with him?! Really a great rock star love story with plenty of steam, chemistry, romance and I would say a HFN.

🦋 rockstar

First of all, I LOVED that The Maine was mentioned in this book. I love that band and it was such a surprise to see one of their songs in there. I liked how Ryan, despite being the rock rising star, is all over Alys since minute 1 and is not afraid to act on it without using the whole you should want me because I’m going to be famous thing. Their story is sweet and enjoyable, although sometimes I got angry at Alys for being so stubborn. But, hey, if she gave in in the beginning there wouldn’tbe a chase I guess

Character :
Alys is an introvert and usually doesn't like being in a crowded room but that doesn't mean she's plain, she loves dancing and even got a cool job. She is insecure in terms of committing to a relationship because of her bad experiences. It's great to see her gain courage to love Ryan fully.

Ryan is friendly and confident. He said what he wants and doesn't beat around the bush so sometimes it scares Alys out.

Storyline :
Ryan's interest in Alys is quite insta-love so you might not like this book if you're into slow burn romances but the characters do get to know each other instead of just dating right away. I don't like how the issues holding them back are dragged too long for my liking. I'm sad to say that I don't enjoy it as I thought I would.

Overall, it's a good book but just not for me. 2 stars.

Thank you to the author for an e-arc!
I love a good romance of course and this new release was good!! I love the whole band and touring idea and it was set in the UK which was awesome! I also really value Aly's relationship with Emily. I think the slow burn was a little prolonged and I wished Alys was able to open up a little sooner, but her full circle growth was strong at the end of the book and I felt proud of her as a reader. Let me also amend by saying that slow burn is not my favorite, but I think Bevan did do it really well to build the trust between her two main characters. I would definitely read the next book in this series because I have a feeling it'll be about a certain bestie and a certain drummer boy, but we shall see. This was a quick read and a cute story that I enjoyed reading! Also Ryan was definitely hot and I love the lead singer of the rock band vibe!!
