Anna If you would have told me five years ago that my life would look like this? I would have laughed in your face. I mean, to go from designer shoes to non-slip loafers? Not exactly an ideal transformation and definitely not one I saw coming. I'm not sure that my heart can't take the pain of another man disappointing me. Except he’s different from anyone I’ve ever met, yet comfortably familiar at the same time. So maybe, just maybe, letting him in won’t shatter this new life like the last one?
Theo I've been striving to be the man I thought I was meant to be, long enough for it to become my constant. And stepping into my father's shoes, it's finally starting to feel like I've made it there. Then, on what feels like the first night of the rest of my life, a precarious tray of drinks changes everything. She holds her secrets close and her skewed idea of the world closer. But maybe she'll let me show her all the things she doesn't believe real life can be.
**This book contains mature content, including but not limited to strong language and scenes that may be challenging for some readers and not suitable for young readers. See the author's website for details** *Each book is technically stand-alone, but with partially overlapping storylines, they would be best enjoyed in sequence: #1. Off The Record (Noelle) #2. In The Moment (Evie) #3. Like The Rest (Anna)
P. Roper is a word junkie & caffeine enthusiast, born and raised in Western Canada. When she’s not writing (or reading) you’ll usually find her with her husband, chasing their hurricane of a daughter. Or she may be grabbing a coffee with her best friend. She loves NA Romance but is convinced that there is no way she could actually choose a favourite trope.
Rating: 4 Spice: 4 Anna is in her mid to late twenties finding herself divorced and broke. She signed a prenup that has left her not able to speak to her parents for ten years and without a penny to her name. All she has is her brother and his wife. She has never worked a day in her life and is forced to find a job at a bar. Living her life with someone else's expectations is hard, but what Anna finds hard is finding out herself who she is really meant to be. Theo is a man that doesn’t care about her past he just wants her to see how wonderful she is and is patient and slow. Anna doesn’t know if she is ready for the love that Theo is ready to give so soon after a divorce. She was married to a man that cheated on her openly and didn’t care about her feelings. How do you move on from that? While this story is part of a series it’s a stand alone. I didn’t go back and read the other two books before it, but from what I gathered Anna gave up on her friends for a man that didn’t value her at all. This book didn’t take me long to read, but I realized that I am so used to things being wrapped up that I was left feeling lost for a couple days. Yet, I sat back and thought about how real life issues don’t resolve overnight. Anna had to find time to find herself and learn to stand on her own two feet. She got upset over some things Theo did for her, but it was because she wasn’t used to things being done out of kindness and thoughtfulness. She also wasn’t used to living in a world where people did things they wanted and for their happiness, not what looked good or proper. Theo is a great supporting man for Anna because he was there to show her the balance of it all. To give her a push in the right direction, but giving her the space to learn as well. All in all this book is a four because it did leave me thinking and I would like to know what happens five years down the line with Theo and Anna. I always talk about the spice at the end, I rated it a 4. It's not heavy in the book, but it’s there and they are pretty hot for each other, but it’s also a lesson in that as well. Just note during those times in the books it is hot, but the story doesn’t get lost. If you read this review, I think you should just check it out and see how you feel about this book. Enjoy.
Like The Rest is the third book in The Louisburg Girls Series by P. Roper. This book can be read as a standalone but does have plot lines and characters from previous books so it is best to read the books in order to get the full story. The first two books are available now on Kindle Unlimited to read for free with a subscription.
“I know this world isn’t what you expected from your life. But if you’ll let me, I’d love to show you how to live in it.”
This book follows our main character Anna as she is learning how to live life after being exiled from the world of luxury she has always known. It is hard to adjust to living in a 400 square foot apartment after spending her days lounging around mansions. She also has to get a job for the first time and waiting tables is the only thing that she can find. At her new job at a local bar, Anna runs into Theo, literally. Spills a tray of drinks on him leaves her flustered but one look into Anna’s eyes and he is smitten. As Anna and Theo grow close, Anna’s past starts making its way through the cracks. Will their differences end up keeping them apart?
I’m going to be honest. I 100 percent judged this book by its cute cover, thinking it would just be a basic, fun romance. What I wasn’t expecting was a spicy, complex relationship to develop. Anna is really just looking for a distraction when Theo comes into her life but Theo knows that there is something special about Anna. What starts as insta-lust progresses into something more. Theo is my favorite kind of male character as he is patient and kind and listens to Anna’a problems in such a sincere way. I normally hate romance books that have instalove in them, but I feel like it works for these characters.
There are a lot of side characters and a chunk of them are from previous books, which I haven’t read (yet), but I still feel like they were written with purpose and had their own motivations instead of just being pawns to go around the central romance. I love how Anna feels so alone in the beginning and slowly realizes how many people she has around her that care about her.
“Let me burn a new, beautiful memory in your mind.” By far, my favorite element about this book was Anna’s journey. She could have easily been a bratty, rich girl who thought she was better than everyone else and acted on that. But she isn’t. She comes off as someone who has been through the ringer and is trying to get her footing back. And then there are moments through the book where her privilege peeks out. There was one moment when she was talking about a dessert that I got embarrassed for Theo by the way she was behaving. But the way the author is able to just allow glimpses of the old Anna without making her feel super shallow was very interesting. My only complaint about the book is we just didn’t get enough of Anna’s mental state at the beginning. I would love to have seen more of her internal struggle because what she is going through is a really big lifestyle change that isn’t easy.
I would give light content warning for this book for discussion of abuse. While it isn’t depicted on page, it is mentioned.
I gave this book a 4.5* rounded up to a 5. I really enjoyed my time with this book and I’m definitely going to pick up the previous books in this series.
A big thank you to the author for allowing me to be part of the ARC team and getting to read and review this book ahead of its release which is August 29, 2022. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A story Perfect for ending the Louisburg Girls trilogy! Anna’s story is gritty and messy and sexy all at once, you definitely don’t way to miss out on it! Plus, her love interest is a ten all around.
Ah I can't believe I finally get to write this review!!!! Anna was hard to believe she was going to have her own story when I finished Off The Record. I was like how? Then I read In The Moment and was floored by Anna's actions. I was convinced there was no way to redeem her. It feels so good to be wrong.
Anna is complicated and complex like so many of us. We all have moments where the people who love us look at us and just can't align our actions with who we should be. This is a huge part of Anna's story. And like her cousin Flynn all we can do is love her anyways.
Man Theo is a dream! Dominate in a ton of ways but a total sweetie in all the right places. And honestly that man wasn't as patient with Anna and her baggage as he was they for sure would not have last.
I think that's the biggest reason Theo stands out a little more than the other guys in this series for me. Theo grew up in a very loving two person household with parents who put in the work of maintaining a relationship. For example we don't know a lot about Flynn and Caleb's dads (MMC in the other books). But we know a ton of how Theo grew up and why he could do the work with Anna.
Run and read this one after you read Off The Record and In The Moment. P. Roper is masterful how she weaves her story and the interconnected pieces. Her heroines are flawed, her heros adorable cinnamon roll/alphas who would do anything for their love.
Thank you to P. Roper, Peachy Keen Author Services, and BookFunnel for the ARC!
This is the first book by this author I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Wonderful character journey and love story. The only things that would’ve made this better were her ex husband somehow getting what he deserves and a little bit more of Theo and Anna together at the end!
Finally getting Anna’s story!!! Life really hit her to rock bottom. I loved reading her rebuild herself. Especially with Theo there to help her. Theo is such a sweetheart! Absolutely love the ending! Can’t wait to see what the next book/series brings. Very highly recommend this series/book. Standalones but highly recommend reading together to fully understand everything.
With each book I have read in this series, I adored the couple who the book was about. I think I may have even said in my review of the previous book, that Flynn and Evie are my favorite but that changed while reading Like the Rest. While I love each book and its characters for their own reasons, Anna’s story just moved me. It is a story of hitting rock bottom, getting a reality check and working toward self-growth.
“Expectations can be a dangerous thing to live up to. The trail they leave is fragile and if you’re not careful, that delicacy turns out to be a Molotov. Burning every bridge and preventing you from saving them with the shattered glass it leaves in its wake.”
Anna, raised by elite parents, to always be prim and proper and follow society’s rules, has found herself cutoff from everything and everyone she’s ever known when she finally sticks up for herself and leaves her abusive husband, John. She is not allowed to even have contact with her parents, moved to the city, working a waitress job and living in a 3 story walk up studio apartment. She is down on her luck and her confidence. That all changes when she quite literally crashes into Theo.
“I know that this world isn’t what you expected from your life. But if you’ll let me, I’d love to show you how to live in it.”
In my opinion, Theo is a godsend for Anna. He is just what she needed, exactly when she needed it. He was willing to be whatever necessary to help her through it all, even though he didn’t know her whole story. He was her friend, a shoulder to lean on, a teacher of how to just let go and live in the moment and just patient with her, while she worked through her stuff and felt comfortable enough to tell him her whole story. When her cousin Flynn extended an olive branch, Theo encouraged her to take it and try to work things out with old friends she had burned bridges with.
“Let me show you how much fun life can carry if you let it show you it’s capacity. Please Anna? Let me burn a new, beautiful memory in your mind.”
I have to be honest, I didn’t know how P. Roper was going to redeem Anna after making us dislike her so much in the first two books. But she did it and she did it well. I absolutely love Like the Rest!!
This was a low two. There are many things that factor into this. But these stood out.
Anna is fine with the fact that her (ex)husband probably has a mistress and that’s normal in her world but what sets her divorce in motion is her husband engaging a group sex act with men and women in their bed room. So what put her over the edge? The orgy? The fact her husband is bisexual? Or it coming into her own home? The author should have picked one. It coming into her own home would have enough but the kinkshaming biphobic/homophobic angle was a lot for the first chapter to be honest.
Theo is an absolute sweetheart of a doormat and Anna walks all over him. He tries over and over again to include her as she goes through a rough time. She is very unlikable and her inner monologue of how much she hates the “cliche’d” intimate family activities shows how little she cares for his efforts.
Besides sex I’m not really sure why she’s with him.
I struggled to get to half way through this book because Anna seemed like she’d be someone in high school who would have been a bully and I just wanted to give Theo a hug. I love the holidays and honestly felt like Anna would make fun of me for my ugly Christmas sweaters.
(Start dates and end dates are estimated as good reads is glitching)
Like The Rest is the third book in Ms. Roper's The Louisburg Girls series and is very emotional. Anna and Theo's story is one of heartbreak, hurt, healing, growth, change and finding that one true love you never knew existed. Anna never thought she would hit rock bottom but when her high society marriage was something that she could not face living that is exactly what happened to her. She lost everything that was in her life including her parents when she filed for divorce. Starting over in a new place with nothing to her name was not something that she ever thought she would have to do. In walks Theo, a handsome, kind and loving strange that she has an instant connection. Anna is not used to people being kind without wanting something back and when Theo treats her with love and kindness she doesn't know how to respond. Their chemistry is off the charts and Theo is an angel with patients a mile long. He sees that Anna has been through something and hopes that she will share her past with him. Their connection was beautiful and one that some people would dream of.
I highly recommend picking up this beautifully written book and enjoy an emotional must-read love story.
Anna is struggling after recently leaving her husband because of infidelity and other issues. She signed a crappy prenup before they were married which resulted in her losing everything; including her trust fund and contact with her parents for the next 10 years. She gets a job as a waitress and meets Theo while working!
I loved Theo! He is so patient with Anna despite her not being forthcoming with information about her past, and he totally wants to help her become the best version of herself.
I don’t want to give away any real spoilers, but I will say that I 100% recommend reading this book and all of the other books in the series!
This book is the finishing part in a series but the books could be read as standalone but some storylines you'll get better when reading all. This one felt so real and I love how patient Theo is in getting to see the true Anna. She has signed a document leaving her unable to contact her parents. The guy obviously wasn't deserving who did this to her. Now can Anna turn things around with help? Being cheated on and the world knows? What does that make you? Theo is seriously the best guy out there and after finishing this story I felt emotional. It's a story that hit me in my guts and I am here for it! Highly recommend.
