I read the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CQM/OE) Handbook primarily to prepare for the ASQ CQM exam, and it served that purpose well- I passed using this book as my main study resource.

The book is organized into seven parts covering leadership, strategic planning, management methods, quality tools, customer focus, supply chain management, and training. Most of the quality concepts were familiar, but two sections stood out as new and valuable for a management role: financial management and customer-focused organizations. These sections emphasize how quality leaders must understand business finances and the link between quality, customer satisfaction, and overall company performance.

The book tries to expose quality professionals to how businesses actually operate beyond technical quality tools. However, the content can feel dense and sometimes repetitive, with similar concepts appearing across different sections, which makes it better suited for scanning and conceptual review rather than reading word-for-word.

Despite that, it is comprehensive and covers almost every concept in the CQM body of knowledge. Overall, it is a practical exam preparation resource. Rating: 3/5.

Well, I passed the ASQ Certified Manager of Quality exam after reading this cover to cover. The test was open book & the glossary & index were helpful when referencing.
