Jess was born in the quaint village of Woodbridge in the Uk, has spent some of her childhood in the States and now resides in the beautiful Roman city of Bath. She lives with her husband Phil and her very dapsy cat, Pleaides. Jess can often be found either in a cafe, grinning behind a large mug of hot chocolate, at her desk, getting annoyed with her cat for sitting on her keyboard, or on her comfy corner sofa with friends, enjoying her high definition tv and surround sound system. Jess likes playing massively multiplayer on-line games and has written fan fiction for Entropia. Her choose your own adventure story, written under the penname Marie Woodell, covers a romance about two in game characters. She also runs Flight Productions, a film production company, with a fellow writer. Jess' role is managing script writing and she's involved with a science fiction twitter project, a television fantasy drama and a feature film. She also has a clothing company where she produces her own original designs in a gothic style.
Good, strong characters and a solid story line make this a fun read. Continuing her battles with the agency Allen finally reaches the point of leaving LA and searching for the Sanctuary.
This book spins its wheels and doesn't really go anywhere . There's nothing in the way of character development or world building. The main characters spends the majority of the book once again running from a seemingly unlimited supply of agents while refusing to escalate or leave the city. By the end of the book nothing is truly accomplished.
The agents are attacking with tranquilizers, but none of the people or creatures they capturedare ever seen again. Logic dictates they're either indefinitely imprisoned without a trial and/or euthanized. Maybe the main characters should use weapons that have more long-term affects.
The main character is childish, illogical, and has no real personality. The plot holes are rather annoying too. At the end the senior agents are wondering how their targets could have known to prepare for their assault and immediately jump to the conclusions there's a bug in the office. They didn't think that maybe their tracking bug wasn't discovered?
I only looked at this second book in the series since I thought it HAD to be better than the first. After all there are 12 books in the series. But no, don’t waste your time. The thought continually going through my mind while reading and then skimming this book was “too stupid to live”
More bad decisions, one after the other, because “she was done running away from her problems” or something similar. It was all about Aelli, who ignored those who were assisting her. And they all followed her because, well, I guess because she had the dragon. Lots of plot holes. (Really, how did they get their money? They always seemed to have enough food even for a growing dragon. Zephyr evidently was uncovering ancestral memories, but nothing of help.)
I’m done with this series, even though I have book three, it will not be read.
It was a fun read, learning to fly is awesome, especially with an iron man feel. Also the bins between Zephyr and Aella growing stronger is very exciting. The battle scenes and the fun ways that they fought was great.
I found this synopsis preface in amazon.uk. This is a typical YA dragon and companion story with a few interesting twists…the setting for example. The good: Excellent characters well fleshed out Unexpected twists A fun read The not so good: Two Long drawn out battle scenes that got boring. Some grammar errors Annoying misuse of several words It needed a final edit to catch missing words, double words
In general I recommend this book and the first in the series. I’m 79 so evaluating a YA read, I may be a bit harsh.
Considering how big and busy LA is, it is small wonder that Aella and company would like to stay rather than try and hunt down sanctuary elsewhere. It is so much easier to stay on the darker side of LA. What with a surprising gift and rescuing a young fire salamander the time has come to deal with training. And more training. All because meeting up with the government agents is inevitable as well. Will that be enough, though? Author Jess Mountifield/Talia Beckett certainly succeed in penning down another immersive action intensive adventure for the young at heart with Shadow Sworn. Enjoy.
5 stars even though it was less than 400 pages. Dragon, elves and dwarves adds some Mythical intrigue and it pulled me into the story. I read the whole thing i ln less than 36 hours ... I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes reading Urban fantasy or about a dragon.
Aella gets a big present. I mean, a BIG present. She learns to fly. Zephyr learns to talk. Big Agency battle. Fire salamanders are adorable.
So far, I am enjoying this series just fine. It's not reinventing my world, but it is just fine. Sometimes, the prose is repetitive, and I have caught multiple typographical and syntactical errors that the copyeditor should have caught.
From beginning to end book 2 entralls the reader with a tale of magics who just want to be left alone having to fight the gov't who as usual think they know better.
This is proving to be a ferocious tale of a young elf and her Dragon fighting against overwhelming odds with the help of a few friends and a rambunctious clan of fire salamanders. I'm loving it!
Awesome well thought out characters and storyline. The Plot thickens lol I can't wait to read the next in this series. I would recommend this book and this series.
I liked this one better I think, we see our MC interact more with the other characters and rely on them. The pacing is still a bit messy, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.
Our part elven heroin and her dragon are trying to keep a low profile, while our heroin works on getting a handle on her innate magical skills and works on her butt kicking skills. Lots of action to keep all readers interested.
