Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.

When my mom went to be with the Lord, I read a Spurgeon sermon on death that really comforted me. I complied this volume to comfort others grieving.

“Death in itself cannot be a theme for rejoicing with God. But death in the case of believers is another matter. To them, it is not death to die; it is a departure out of this world unto the Father, a being unclothed that we may be clothed upon, a falling asleep, an entrance into the Kingdom.” C. H. Spurgeon

When my dad died this book was a great source of comfort and processing aid with the Lord. Although it was a thin book, it took me almost a year because the content was so rich and also my heart could only handle a little at a time while dialoguing through the grief with the Lord! I highly recommend!

All of us human beings knows deep in our hearts that death is something that is destined for all of us, and in our hearts, no matter what worldview one holds, we know that there has to be accountability for how we lived our lives, and since we are dreadful for that due process, it makes us men to be fearful of death as we all know that we fall short. However, this is not so for believers, as Christ has defeated death's sting on behalf of us those who are held fast by Him. Thus, even in the face of death, we are cheerful and confident as we've overcome the fear of death. In this book, an anthology of some sermons on the theme of death by the noted 19th century English Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon, the book aims to encourage and strengthen believers in the light of death and what this means to our daily walk with Christ in this present world. Truly, as the psalmist said; "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints," and with apostle Paul, we can together say; "To live is Christ, and dying is gaining."

I highly recommend all to get ahold of this book.
