In diesem kurzweiligen Psychothriller wird man wirklich immer wieder überrascht. Nichts ist so, wie es scheint. Gefühlt folgt eine überraschende Wendung auf die nächste.

Unsere Protagonistin kann sich an den Tathergang vor 15 Jahren, bei dem vier ihrer damaligen Freunde starben, nicht mehr erinnern. Und so malt sie sich einige Szenarien aus, von dem der Leser lange nicht weiß, welche nun wirklich wahr ist. Was ist damals geschehen?

Ich fand das zwar alles zum Teil recht verwirrend, aber auch sehr spannend. Hier kann man wirklich rätseln, was nun wirklich geschehen ist, und dieses Rätselraten mag ich an Krimis und Thrillern immer besonders gerne.

Ich mochte die Geschichte; sie war kurzweilig und unterhaltsam.

This is an awkward book to review. I think the translater did a great job.
The story itself was just average? I knew what was going on, and even the ending wasn't a surprise. It's just that everything was so damned predictable!
That's not to say that this was an awful story. Even when I became frustrated and wanted it to move along, I still liked it. Weird!
I think this should be a shorter, more succinct story.
As it is, it's too wandering.
So, it turns out that I am unable to upload this review to my preferred book site. "Not Amazon." One thing I've noticed is over the past few years is that average ratings aren't allowed. I bet if I kicked it up?

I'm only highlighting, or maybe re-adressing the bullshit that is going on with this book.
I enjoyed this story. It wasn't jaw dropping fantastic. But, I liked it!
Somewhere along the way though, my middling reviews are not being posted from Netgalley.
They are on Netgalley. But, I'm unable to forward them to my preferred retail sites.
I don't do Amazon reviews. But, I do everything else. Lately it's been difficult. Does anyone else have this problem!

The plotline can be a bit confusing at times, I don't know if some of it was lost in translation. This is quite a creepy read. The story has a dual timeline, told in the present day and fifteen years ago. There's also some graphic descriptions of disturbing scenes. There's lots of twists in this intriguing and ripping read. I never knew what was going to happen next. It can be both tense and uncomfortable to read in places, so it might not be suitable for the faint hearted.

Fifteen years ago five teenagers were camping by a local lake. Only one teenager came back ... Michaela. She's relived that time in her life on a daily basis. She has spent the years seeing the killer's face. He seems to be everywhere. And this time she is sure she has found him.

The police no longer take her sightings seriously, so she's made a plan to make this killer disappear ... forever.

But you know what they say about best laid plans ....

An air of mystery surrounds the events that took place 15 years ago. The main character is solidly defined and is an enigma unto herself. She says and does things that she doesn't quite understand. Strange thoughts race around her head. She has sleepless nights wondering what exactly did happen that terrible night. It's a compelling read, but I'm a little ambivalent about the conclusion. The translation was spot-on ... kudos to the translator.

Interesting fact about the author .. she is a trained bookseller. She uses this experience as part of this novel.

Fifteen years ago, Michaela and her friends are so exited schools over they decide to celebrate by taking a camping trip in the forest. All but one are viciously murdered. Michaela was the sole survivor.

Since that horrible day, she has never been the same. The face of the killer follows her everywhere she goes. Unable to let the events of those nights go, Michaela goes on a rampage. What transpires is a chain of events that no one can see coming.

I really liked this book! The concept reminded me of some of my favorite horror films.

From the title I was intrigued, the short prologue hooked me and I never looked back. I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and that including having to work a full day. Michaela our main protagonist was so brutally tortured physically and mentally 15 years ago the scars still feel raw. Finally starting to come back out into the world causes many disturbances in her life and mental stability. Hearing the voice of the person who caused so much pain around every corner….or is it just in her own mind?

She plans to get revenge for her friends that went for a lovely summer camping trip and never made it home. Knowing she finally has the killer in her sights she sets about planning her revenge.

I loved how the author was able to break it up between chapters going back and forth from 15 years earlier to present day. Breaking it up into full chapters instead of flashbacks made me just keep turning pages to get more information. Constantly trying to piece it all together in my head before the reveal of all that happened comes to light. There are great twists and so many emotions throughout this book I even had to remind myself to breath a couple of times. The imagery she paints of Germany is beautiful and just made me want to visit all the Christmas marketplaces. So ein tolles bunch, ich kann es kaum erwarten, mehr von dieser Autorin zu lessen. 5/5

Ein kurzer Psychothriller, schnell gelesen, perfekt für zwischendurch 👍 Mit nicht mal 300 Seiten ist das Tempo ziemlich zügig, da hätte ich mir manchmal sogar etwas mehr Zeit gewünscht. Auch das Ende fand ich zu schnell abgearbeitet und um die Story voranzubringen, musste auch der Zufall das ein oder andere Mal nachhelfen.
Für mich war das Buch jetzt kein Highlight, aber durchaus unterhaltsam. Ich habe es gerne gelesen und das ist im Endeffekt doch die Hauptsache. Wer etwas kurzes, knackiges zum weglesen sucht, macht mit diesem Buch kaum was falsch.

Achtung: Wer massive Probleme mit Gewalt gegen Tieren in Büchern hat, sollte besser die Finger von dem Buch lassen. Es gibt da eine Szene, die ist nicht ohne. Sie ist nicht lang, aber sie ist eben da.

A good book, that I enjoyed. The book follows the main character trying to piece together the turn of events that resulted in her friends been murdered many years prior. It is suspenseful and intriguing, somewhat confusing in places however some of the twists I did not see coming. With a bit of crazy behaviour from the characters thrown in, making it a gripping read and you literally did not know what would happen next. Would recommend.

Thankyou to NetGalley for this book. I found that it started off quite slow and I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to carry in reading it. I’m glad I pushed on because the twists and turns of the book really made it worthwhile! Some of the twists were quite obvious but there were some that made my jaw drop in shock! I would definitely recommend this book!

Auf das Buch bin ich durch Zufall gestoßen, der Klappentext hat mich sofort angesprochen. Der Einstieg fiel mir relativ schwer, warum kann ich gar nicht so genau sagen, denn der Schreibstil ist super...irgendwie fand ich alles erstmal komisch und langweilig. Das hat sich dann aber so schnell geändert, dass ich es selber fast nicht glauben konnte. Die Hauptprotagonistin Michaela war mir dann auf einmal nur noch mega ans Herz gewachsen und ich war begeistert von ihr und ihrer Geschichte.

Rückblickend bekommt der Leser auch immer wieder Einblicke in das Jahr 2003. In diesem Jahr hat sich das Leben für Michaela und ihre Freunde drastisch verändert, denn mehrere Jugendliche wurden ermordet. Da die Mörder immer noch auf freiem Fuß sind, glaubt Michaela ständig, in fremden Männern einen der Täter zu erkennen. Ob es diesmal bei David wirklich so ist? Ist er der seit langem gesuchte Täter? Das Buch nimmt von Seite zu Seite immer mehr an Fahrt auf und man fliegt nur so durch die Seiten. Etwa ab der Hälfte konnte ich es gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen und habe es in einem Rutsch zuende gelesen. Dabei bin ich so oft überrascht worden und auch wenn die Handlungen der Protagonistin für mich ein klein wenig überzogen waren (oder sie hatte wirklich so starke Nerven :D) die Spannung hat von vorne bis hinten gestimmt und jede Seite war Nervenkitzel pur.

Als sich am Ende alles aufgeklärt hat war ich überrascht und fassungslos und als ich das dann langsam habe sacken lassen können, dreht die Autorin im letzten Kapitel noch einmal alles um, genau solche Wendungen braucht ein guter Thriller. Das Buch habe ich dann traurig und überrascht beendet, Fragen sind keine mehr offen geblieben. Ne glasklare Empfehlung von mir!

This story starts out SCARY and the pace is quick containing a few surprising plot twists. This is a very well done translation. I loved the setting in Berlin and enjoyed trying to figure out what was happening with our main character. I did find the ending a little rushed, but would highly recommend this one as a fast, fun thriller. STOP. Ich war so zufrieden mit dem Ende. Ich hatte Michaela von ca der Hälfte des Buches in Verdacht. Und als es ihr angefangen hat Spaß zu machen David zu quälen und SEIN KIND zu entführen, da war ich mir sicher: sie war es!!

Aber dieses 6 Monate später hat mich AUSEINANDER GENOMMEN.

Als Person, die die Täter eigentlich immer kennt bevor es aufgelöst wird, bedanke mich für diese unerwartete Wendung. Jetzt kann ich nicht mehr aufhören daran denken :()

The story starts in 2003, when a group of schoolfriends go camping in the woods. During their outing something terrible happens. Only one of them survives the ordeal, albeit leaving her deeply traumatized.

Fifteen years later, a young women at a Christmas fair in Berlin, notices two children who have escaped the attention of their parents, and buys tickets for a fairground attraction. ( I'm sure that would make any parent nervous, to say the least. I teach my kids not to take anything from strangers, and assume many a parent feels the same way, but that aside).
After that the story gets more confusing and is sometimes downright unbelievable. There are also inconsistencies in the story.
The main character thinks she recognizes the voice of her perpetrator from years ago, and decides to kidnaps the man, stun him with a taser, anesthetize him with chloroform, kidnaps his baby son, holds the women who helped her out earlier at gunpoint, or tries to have a reasonable conversation with a man who has just confessed he killed a man to help her.
I am sorry, but that just doesn’t make sense at all. And how can someone who goes cycling, return by car ( and be in a car accident later on? )
Nope, too unbelievable, too much drama, too much focus on silly and unnecessary details, too many adjectives, too much of everything really, making the story more of a farce than a psychological crime thriller.
Writing was below par for me too as well. Not recommended, 1 star.

This was quite a confusing plot. I love how tensed the story was, leaving you no room to digest your thoughts but I feel the plot is lacking something. I am not sure if some of the plot is lost in translation or the author intentionally leaves you confused.

This story follows Michaela in a dual timeline focusing on the past and present. Fifteen years ago, Michaela and her friends went camping in a secluded forest lake to celebrate the end of school. What is supposed to be a fun trip quickly turned into horror when they were terrorised and brutally murdered. Only Michaela survived and the culprit was never caught. She was never the same eversince and she is always on the lookout for the culprit and has gotten into trouble with the police several times because of it. She believed that she finally found the culprit and decides to take matters into her own hands. What will she do next? How will she make the culprit pay or is it all in her head?

Some parts of the story is actually creepy, just thinking about being in a secluded forest where no one can hear you scream gives me goosebumps. Despite there being loopholes, the whole story is actually quite thrilling and kept me on the edge. I did enjoy the little plot twists but I felt the ending was a little rushed. Overall, I still enjoyed reading this. If you are looking for a fast paced thriller, do give this a go.

Für mich sind zu viele Fragen offen geblieben am Ende und wenn jemand die Antworten dazu hat, dann gerne hier drunter schreiben, vielleicht habe ich nicht aufmerksam genug gelesen.
Achtung: Spoiler in den Fragen!

Ich gehe davon aus, dass die Eingangsgeschichte jene ist, die Michaela den Ermittlern erzählt hat. Wenn sie aber einen Autounfall hatte, wie konnte es Sinn machen, dass sie mit der Clique auf dem Rad zum See gefahren ist? Das hätte doch sofort, in 2003, auffallen müssen und nicht erst als die Ermittlungen neu aufgenommen wurden.
Es musste doch auch klar gewesen sein, mit welcher Waffe die Jugendlichen getötet wurden. Wieso nehmen ihre Eltern sie in Schutz bzgl. der Pistole? Es gab ja gar keinen Anlass dazu, zu denken, dass sie die Jugendlichen erschossen hat.
Ich hätte mir tatsächlich gewünscht, dass Michaela in Hypnose die wahre Geschichte offen legen kann, damit man am Ende wirklich weiß, was passiert ist. So kann man nur spekulieren, was passiert ist und sich aus den ganzen Versionen etwas sinnvolles zusammenbasteln.

Das Buch klang an sich interessant, aber mich frustriert es etwas, nicht zu wissen, was wirklich passiert ist.

Uff, vorab kann ich sagen: dieses Buch lässt mich sprachlos zurück und wirkt noch lange nach!

Bevor ich näher darauf eingehe, möchte ich mich allerdings zuerst für das Rezensionsexemplar bedanken, welches mir vom Amazon Publishing Verlag Deutschland zur Verfügung gestellt wurde, ich habe mich sehr darüber gefreut! Der Titel "Böse bist du" von Jutta Maria Herrmann wurde vor einem Jahr bereits veröffentlicht und ist nun erstmalig als Printversion erschienen. 2019 wurde das Werk bereits zum Kindle Storyteller Gewinner nominiert, weshalb ich besonders neugierig darauf wurde. Aber auch so wäre ich auf das düster wirkende und gelungene Cover aufmerksam geworden. Der Klappentext sagte mir ebenfalls sofort zu und versprach ein spannendes Buch. Die Autorin Jutta Maria Herrmann war mir bislang nicht bekannt, was sich nun ändern durfte :)

Der Start in die Geschichte weckt direkt auf und sorgt für Spannung. Es wird aus zwei Perspektiven berichtet, aus der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart der Hautprotagonistin Michaela. Damals, vor 15 Jahren, ereigneten sich schlimme Dinge an einem See, wo ein paar Freunde, unter ihnen Michaela, kampieren waren. Es geschah dort ein grausamer Mord und nur unser Hauptcharakter überlebte. Noch heute suchen sie die Ereignisse aus der Vergangenheit heim, da der Mörder immer noch nicht aus dem Verkehr gezogen wurde.. und Michaela langsam für verrückt erklärt wird! Die Ärmste sieht in manchen Männern immer wieder den vermeintlichen Täter, sie will ihn jedes Mal an seiner Stimme wieder erkennen. Da sie in der Vergangenheit aber bereits mehrmals falsch lag, wird sie seither nicht mehr für voll genommen, nicht mal mehr von ihrer eigenen Mutter. Allerdings ist sie sich dann plötzlich ganz sicher, sie hat den Täter gefunden! Nun setzt sie ALLES daran, dass sie diesen enttarnt und gerät dabei gehörig in Gefahr... und macht Dinge, die sie sonst nie getan hätte...die Geschichte nimmt ihren Lauf. Einiges wird aus der Vergangenheit aufgedeckt und schockiert den Leser zutiefst.

Michaela war mir trotz ihrer Vergangenheit und ihrem "Spleen" als Mensch sehr sympathisch. Ich konnte mich in ihren Seelenkummer hinein versetzen und ihren Tatendrang, die Dinge selber in die Hand zu nehmen, gut nachvollziehen. Leider ist sie dabei ziemlich auf sich alleine gestellt und übertritt die ein oder andere Grenze. Man weiß lange nicht, wem in diesem Werk wirklich zu trauen ist. Kann man vielleicht Michaela selber nicht trauen?! Nicht nur einmal stellte ich mir diese Frage... die Autorin versteht es definitiv mit der Psyche des Lesers zu spielen, ihn in die Irre zu leiten und ihm die vermeintliche Wahrheit aufzutischen und diese dann wieder umzuwerfen. Diese Geschichte ist rasant und verschafft mir ein Wechselbad der Gefühle. Ständig ist mit allem zu rechnen, sodass dieses eher kurze Buch, nicht langweilig wird und auch gar nicht kurz wirkt. Die Ereignisse sind auf den rund 230 Seiten prima verpackt. Der Schreibst ist flüssig und angenehm, die Kapitel halten sich in einer angenehmen Länge. So KÖNNTE man das Buch gut pausieren, will es aber eigentlich gar nicht. Denn: einmal angefangen, will man einfach wissen, wie das Ganze ausgeht! Deshalb musste ich es in einem Rutsch durchlesen und flog nur so durch die Zeilen.

Lange glaubt man, nur aus der Perspektive von Michaela in der Ich-Form zu lesen, was mich am meisten in die Protagonistin versetzen lässt, doch dann stellt sich heraus, dass es noch einen Perspektivwechsel gibt – lasst euch überraschen.

Schlussendlich kann ich nur sagen, dass am Ende alles anders kommt, als man denkt und man noch lange über die Geschichte nachdenkt. Ich musste sogar die Autorin kontaktieren, um eine Verständnisfrage am Ende zu klären, um besser abschließen zu können :D Das hat geholfen :) Meiner Meinung nach ist dies definitiv ein Buch, welches man auch noch mal ein zweites Mal lesen könnte!

Für einen kurzweiligen, extrem rasanten, spannenden und wendungsreichen Psychothriller vergebe ich eine klare Lese- und Kaufempfehlung und 5 gelungene Sterne *****

Jutta Maria Herrmann hat mit ihrem Psychothriller BÖSE BIST DU den Kindle Storyteller Award 2019 gewonnen.

Jutta Maria Herrmann ist gebürtige Saarländerin, gelernte Buchhändlerin, studierte Germanistin. Sie hat Rockkonzerte veranstaltet, als Putzfrau Böden geschrubbt, als Sekretärin in einer Tischlerei und im Ökowerk Berlin gearbeitet, Synchrondrehbücher geschrieben und und und. Jetzt verdient sie ihre Brötchen als Assistentin der Politikredaktion einer Tageszeitung und immer, wenn es ihre Zeit erlaubt, setzt sie sich vor den Computer und schreibt ihre Geschichten auf. Die von ihr verfassten Kurzkrimis wurden in verschiedenen Anthologien veröffentlicht und beim renommierten MDR-Literaturwettbewerb 2010 kam ihr Beitrag „Morgen ist ein anderer Tag“ in die Liste der Top 25. Sie hat vier Psychothriller im Knaur Verlag veröffentlicht. BÖSE BIST DU, ihr fünfter Psychothriller, erschien am 09.06.2019 als eBook und Taschenbuch exklusiv bei Amazon. Meine Meinung

Ich habe schon andere Thriller der Autorin mit Begeisterung gelesen und daher wollte ich dieses Buch nun auch für mich entdecken.

Daher war ich schon überrascht, dass mir der Einstieg in die Geschichte nur sehr schwer gelungen ist.

Man lernt hier Michaela kennen, die vor 15 Jahren Schlimmes erlebt hat. Seitdem meint sie oft, den Täter erkannt zu haben und verrennt sich immer schnell in ihren Phantasien. Ihre Mutter glaubt ihr daher nicht mehr.

Sie trifft nach Jahren eine Jugendfreundin wieder, die glücklich mit ihrem Mann David zusammen lebt und auch gerade ihr erstes Kind erwartet. Als sie David das erste Mal begegnet, ist sie sich ziemlich sicher, dass es sich um den Täter von damals handelt. Als das Kind auch noch den Namen des damaligen Täters Leanders bekommt, dreht Michaela durch.

Ich konnte Michaelas Gedanken und Taten trotz ihrer schlimmen Erlebnisse absolut nicht nachvollziehen. Auch war mir die Geschichte teilweise einfach zu wirr und konstruiert.

Alles in allem konnte mich dieser Thriller leider nicht begeistern und überzeugen und bekommt von mir 3 Sterne.

Am nächsten Tag sind bis auf ein Mädchen alle Tod. Das Trauma dieser Ereignisse verfolgt sie bis heute und immer wieder glaubt sie in Fremden den Mörder ihrer Freunde zu erkennen. Als sie ihm aber eines Tages tatsächlich gegenübersteht, ist für sie schnell klar, dass sie handeln muss. Ihre Entscheidung löst Ereignisse aus, die denen von damals in nichts nachstehen…

Michaela ist schwertraumatisiert und versucht mit ihrer Therapeutin seit Jahren daran zu arbeiten, mal gelingt es ihr ganz gut mal nicht. Die Ermordung ihrer Freunde kann sie bis heute nicht verwinden und als sie auf den Mörder trifft gerät ihr Leben erneut völlig aus den Fugen. Michaela ist eigentlich eine sympathische Protagonistin, bei der man als Leser sofort Mitleid verspürt und auch Sorge darüber wie schwer sie traumatisiert sie ist. Ihren mehr oder weniger gelungenen Versuch sich im Leben wirklich zurecht zu finden empfand ich sehr gut von der Autorin eingefangen und man konnte ihre Ängste und Sorgen gut nachvollziehen. Erst durch das aufeinander treffen mit dem Mörder geht eine Veränderung in ihr vor, die ganz neue Seiten in ihr hervorbringen.

Mit dem Treffen auf den Mörder nimmt die Spannung und das Tempo deutlich zu, bis dahin bekommt man als Leser kleine spannende Appetithäppchen aus der Vergangenheit serviert, die nach und nach eine Einblick in die damaligen Ereignisse geben, was mir ausgesprochen gut gefallen. Zudem schafft es auch die Autorin gekonnt Zweifel über die Erinnerungen von Michaela einfließen zu lassen, was der Geschichte für mich noch eine besondere Würze verliehen hat.

Den Spannungsbogen empfand ich gut aufgebaut, er nimmt stetig zu und trieb dabei die Geschichte gut vorwärts. Aber vor allem das Ende hat es mir angetan, es ist überraschend und schockierend zugleich und hat mir wirklich ausgesprochen gut gefallen.

Mein Fazit:

Ein Psychothriller, der mir spannende Lesestunden bereitet hat und mich mit dem Ende wirklich überraschen und schockieren konnte.

This was the first book I have read by German author Jutta Maria Herrmann and it may be her first novel translated into English. Born in Sarland, Hermann has been a trained bookseller and studied German, has organised rock concerts, scrubbed floors as a cleaning lady, worked as a secretary in a carpentry shop, been an assistant to political editors of a daily newspaper but has now dedicated herself to writing psychological thrillers.

The book centres on unreliable narrator Michaela whose life has been impacted by tragic events that took place 15 years earlier. Going on a camping trip to celebrate the end of school she and 4 friends had a terrifying ordeal which saw only Michaela return, forever damaging her psychologically. She and her mother run a bookshop in Berlin and being fully aware of her triggers, Michaela keeps to herself and avoids social encounters. However, after meeting a one-time fellow pupil from her school, far more popular than herself, Michaela is convinced to go to a party.

As the novel develops we follow the events of 15 years earlier in parallel with the contemporary storyline which reveals that Michaela is haunted by the face and voice of one of the perpetrators. Convinced that she has run into him again, she concocts a plan to abduct him and extract a confession. Where better a place to do so than the remote forest that she was at on the camping trip. Yet a power struggle occurs between Michaela and the man she has abducted and it starts to become unclear who is the aggressor and who is the victim.

I did enjoy The Evil In You. I felt quite invested in Michaela as a character who despite her obsessions was a sympathetic character. I did like her interactions with the other characters in the story. The confrontations in the forest were fairly tense and I was very keen to see how they would play out. Although the book has multiple timelines, I felt it was fairly easy to understand, although I did feel the ending was a bit open to interpretation. If you’re interested in psychological dramas in different locations, I would certainly encourage you to read this book.

The Evil in You by Jutta Maria Herrmann is a terrifying thriller that you won't be able to put down! The story revolves around Michaela who escaped from a killer 15 years ago. Back then, she and four friends had been camping in a remote forest when they were brutally murdered. Only Michaela survived. But now, years later, she sees the killer again. Is it really him? What will she do to take him down and bring him to justice?

Here is a terrifying excerpt from the Prologue:

"Stop! Wait! You can't leave me like this!
She tries to scream, but the words die away in her throat and she can barely manage a squeak. Terror wells up inside her, her heart thundering like a cannon.
She pulls frantically at the ropes. The coarse fibres cut deep into her wrists. Blood trickles down her hands, drips on to the forest floor."

Overall, Evil in You is a fast-paced read which was so good until the disappointing ending. One highlight of this book are the gripping and terrifying flashbacks. They made the story very exciting to read. I did take off 2 stars, because I did not enjoy the ending of the book. When I finished the book, I was left wondering, "What was that ending?" I will start with the things that I liked.. I liked that it went back to 2003 when the murders happened and forward 15 years later as she was thinking about it. I enjoyed the pace of the book. The suspense was slowing building it went on.

Now the bad, the ending absolutely ruined it for me. The entire book built up and made you wonder the whole time what really happened that day at the lake. They threw tons of theories at you. Then it had a terrible and abrupt ending. There needed to be so much more to explain at the end. I feel like the book was a waste because nothing for me was resolved. I did not enjoy it because of the end.

When all but one of five teenagers are brutally killed whilst camping near a remote forest lake, Michaela is the only survivor & her memory of the murders is incomplete & she is haunted by what happened. Fifteen years later, she hears a familiar voice, & she's sure that she has found one of the killers. There is no evidence, no proof he was there, but Michaela decides to make him pay.

This started off promisingly with an intriguing firsthand account of one of the five friends, & the book then switches to Michaela in the present-day & her chance meeting with an old school friend. The ensuing invite to a party leads her into hearing what she is sure is the voice of one of the two killers from fifteen years ago. Things deteriorate from there for Michaela & the story veers from one unlikely occurrence to another. I felt that the characters were rather thinly drawn too, especially Alexander, the brother of one of the victims. It was an okay read, but I felt that the final twist at the end was unsatisfying.

My first novel by author Jutta Maria Herrmann and I did enjoy it. The plot was gripping and it really drew me in.

The main character is Michela and she has experienced terror in her past and can not seem to let go. . She sees the killers face wherever she goes and is hanging on to bring the killer of her friends to justice.

The story follows Michela as she sees the killer and this in turn sets off lots of events that are terrifying. I can not say too much as I do not want to give any of the storyline away but if you like a good thriller with high content of a vigilante then do pick a copy of this novel up.

The only thing that I found quite hard going is that this novel is translated.

Nonetheless a really good thriller and the author is a brilliant storyteller.

A very creepy thriller, this story features a traumatized woman who, fifteen years ago, had such a terrible experience that she is still suffering from PTSD: sleepless nights, panic attacks and hallucinations are just some of the symptoms. She keeps hearing the voice of or seeing one of the attackers who killed her friends and the police and her mother are getting fed up with her sightings and accusations. Are they real or are they part of her hallucinations? She decides to take revenge when she recognizes a man as the killer and events spiral out of control into a nightmare of epic proportions.
It's a hard book to put down, even though I felt uncomfortable and tense at times. You know she's making mistake after mistake ... or is she?

Michaela is an unreliable yet likable character. She can’t remember fact from fantasy as she recalls the traumatic events she endured 15 years earlier while camping with friends. She now runs a bookshop with her mom in Berlin and keeps to herself. One day, she runs into an old school acquaintance and reluctantly accepts and invitation to a party. At the party, she is positively sure she sees and hears the man responsible for the attack 15 years ago; it’s not a false alarm as all the other times before. Her plan for revenge is about to kick in.

I enjoyed this dual timeline mystery thriller. There were some cringy moments with good twists-some predictable but in an unsuspecting delivery. This book was translated from German but maintained a European feel in a Nordic noir style.

Mein erstes Buch von Jutta Maria Herrmann. & ganz überzeugt bin ich da leider nicht. Es geht zurück ins Jahr 2003. Michaela & ihre Freunde wollten einen schönen Tag am See verbringen & zelten. Doch überlebt nur sie schwer verletzt. Immer wieder hört sie die Stimme des Täters. Doch irgendwie stimmt dies nie. Bis sie nach 15 Jahren den Täter gegenübersteht. Wie das ausgeht? Viel Spaß beim Lesen.
Der Schreibstil war schon flüssig, spannend & fesselnd. Nur kann ich das Handeln von Michaela nicht ganz nachvollziehen. Sie als Charakter & einzige Überlebende hat mir auch irgendwie gut gefallen & ich könnte mich in sie hineinversetzen. Allerdings ist es ein kleines bisschen unlogisch, dass sie nicht zur Polizei gegangen ist. Auch wenn die Polizisten sie nicht mehr ganz glaubten, vielleicht waren sie dem trotzdem nachgegangen.

Ein echt überraschender Psycho-Thriller mit vielen Wendungen und Situationen die überraschen.
Ich kann nicht sagen, dass mir die Prota sympatisch war. Irgendwie war mir von Anfang an klar das irgendwas nicht stimmen kann, doch wer verheimlicht hier was, darauf bis ich bis zum Schluß nicht gekommen..

Durch die kurzen Kapitel und Rückblendungen liest es sich sehr gut und man könnte es auch ohne Probleme weglegen und später witerlesen. Das ist mir nicht gelungen und ich habs in einem durch gelesen.
Ich werd auch noch andere Bücher von ihr lesen.

The Evil In You, is a quick and easy read. I really enjoyed this book from the minute I picked it up to the minute it concluded. This is my first book by Jutta Maria Hermann, but I will be sure to keep an eye on her for the future.

This book had all key components for a suspense novel . The Evil in You, instantly grabs your attention and does not let it go. I finished this book in one sitting. The twist is one you will never see coming.

The story line was well developed and the characters were multi-dimensional.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a quick and suspenseful thriller!

I thought the book was pretty thrilling. Herrmann succeeds in telling a very creepy story. The story moves between the present and past, and the author fluctuates between the two fluidly.
The book was fast paced, and kept you wanting to know more. Even though parts of it were slightly difficult to read, owing to the description of some pretty disturbing scenes, it was hard to put it down. There were some good twists as well. However, there were some parts that I thought were slightly predictable.
