Between Grief and Glory is a seven-week study on the book of Lamentations. This study invites us to grieve sin and the brokenness of this world, while pointing us to not only long for the day when all will be made right but to rejoice as God is working in us even now.
Lovedddd this study!! Was so clear and such a good balance of applying to your life and focusing on Gods character! Felt like I understand who God is so much more through this study and was able to trust Him so much deeper!! Learned so much and would 10/10 recommend :)
I highly recommend this book for anyone, especially if you are walking through a valley. It has uncovered depths of God’s character that I had not yet explored, and done a beautiful job of it!
I am going to rate this a 3 star because I felt this wasn't as deep of a study as the last two devotional books I have done. And though I still don't believe it was very deep, and quite honestly I didn't really like the style it was written in, it did, however, make me want to dig in more and do my own research, and in doing so I dug deeper into the Word, which is really what every Bible study should make you want to do. Lamentations is a hard book to study. I am glad it is over, but I very much appreciate the things I took away from it.
I have done several the Daily Grace Bible studies. This one was biblically solid and very encouraging, but repetitive at times. It may have been better if they had consolidated some of the passages and made it a 5 or 6 week study instead of 7 weeks. There were also a least a dozen spelling/verse reference errors. I liked how they also had us read passages from Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the New Testament to give more understanding to the daily Lamentations passage.
I used this for a personal study in preparation for a study on Lament, and I thought there were some good points. There are some things that I didn't fully agree with, and there were some verses taken out of context, but overall I think that the point was good. It is a little more drawn out than it needs to be, but I found some of it valuable.
A really good study on Lamentations. Brings the gospel into every lesson. Would like to see more emphasis on observation of the text. It kind of assumes you will do that first and the questions focus on cross references and application more.
This Bible study is primarily the study of the book of Lamentations in the Bible, taking place c.600 BC and believed to be written by the prophet, Jeremiah. Lamentations is a very heavy book, as the title suggests, wherein the poet expresses his grief and complete despair over the punishment Israel received for the sins they committed. At the time, Israel was God's precious chosen child. He had given them laws and boundary lines so that they would be able to serve one another and enjoy life with Him in freedom. They rebelled against God and did HORRIFIC things to one another, sinning against God. God warned them that if they continued, he would hand them over to their enemies. They continued in their rebellion and God allowed Babylon to invade them, bringing Israel to their absolute lowest point. God's grief over disciplining His children was intense, but He did it out of Love, urging their return to Him. As a single puzzle piece alone is not sufficient to see the larger finished puzzle itself, it is important to view Lamentations in the grand work of Scripture as a whole. God was not done with the rest of the world's story. Because of Jesus, his life and death, we are now God's chosen people. His children. The apple of His eye. And we no longer have to pay for our sins or live in shame. God decided to leave His throne during one of the worst moments in our history, become human, walk among us in poverty and humility, and suffer in our place. We still deal with the consequences of sin in our world and our own actions. We still suffer. But if we come to Him in faith and repentance, we will never have to suffer His wrath or pay the price for our sin. Jesus bore God's wrath on the cross. All of that being said.... this study is heavy for a 7 week dive into Lamentations. I expected it. I learned some VERY important truths about suffering in our world today. I needed this study. Much of the study is repetitive and could easily have been reduced to a 3 week study. I found some of the extra cross-reference readings to be filler in nature. I obviously enjoy deep dives into scripture, but some days had 3-4 cross reference chapters to read in addition to the Lamentation verses. Normally, I would welcome it, but not at the expense of feeling exasperated mentally. Being that much of the material was repetitive, it made the process much more cumbersome toward the end. 7 weeks of dust and ashes, baby sacrifices, famine, rape, desolation, homelessness, and despair is.....a little difficult. It was definitely a great set-up to much needed Advent joy.
