A glowing card on an altar.
A generous philanthropist destined for death.
Can Astra discover who wants an heiress killed before the plot crosses the finish line?

Once Astra Arden realized her life's direction had been chosen for her by the goddess Athena, the former witch tracker did her best to adjust. After all, there were destinies you could fight to change, and there were destinies that, when refused, might get you turned into a stone statue for eternity.

When the altruistic Alice Windrow comes to Athena's Garden for a tarot card reading, the cheerful young woman seems to not have a care in the world. Known throughout the town for her philanthropy funded by a distant relative's substantial inheritance, she only wishes assurance that the marathon she sponsored will come off without a hitch.

The reading takes a turn when Athena's glowing Star Card flips—showing someone has it in for the innocent Alice.

Can Astra and her sisters unravel the plot in time to stop Alice's murder? Or will the generous girl find that her marathon is officially over—for good?

This book got a bit tedious with the twists and turns and ins and outs of the different paranormal worlds. It dragged quite a bit too. Not sure if I'm going to read the next one in the series.

Amazon synopsis:
I get the divine talking owl bit. I understand the part about star magic. But if the “goddess” knows someone’s going to die, couldn’t she send a file with information on how to stop it instead of a sparkly card?

As a witch who was used to being told where to go and what to do for the greater good—after all, that’s how the witch military worked—being told what to do with the rest of my life by a goddess I didn’t believe in and a talking owl with a chip on his shoulder wasn’t all that far-fetched. The military prepared me to accept all sorts of things that make no sense.

But at least in the military, I had a manual. During Alice Windrow’s card reading with my sister Ami, the glowing star card announces she is marked for death by someone and marked for rescue by the “goddess Athena.” Mom tells me the cheerful girl is known throughout Forkbridge for her philanthropy (funded by a distant relative’s substantial inheritance.) Alice claims she only wanted assurance that the marathon she sponsored will come off without a hitch. Nothing crazy going on in her life.

And yet someone wants her dead. Can we unravel the plot in time to stop Alice’s murder? Or will the generous girl find that her marathon is officially over—for good?

Generally, I enjoyed this book. The concept is different; the whole backstory sets the MC up as something different than the usual cozy mystery witch. Makes a nice change. Otherwise, most of the necessary items are ticked off. There's the large family; although, less warm and inviting than most. I like that the investigative work doesn't have to be done while hiding from the cop friend (unlike the normal cop BOYfriend). I would have wished for more humor. The owl can only provide so much comic relief. There are occasionally aspects of the investigation that don't hold together, but since this falls under the heading of "suspension of reality" so I can live with that. More humor and this could become a real favorite.

I loved it! Astra has to try and save Alice, after the star card came up in a reading. Alice follows the pixie path. But if the pixies are her friends, they wouldn’t want her murdered. Maybe it’s because she’s rich? And what’s up with that horrible reporter? She keeps popping up in the most unlikely places. We get to meet Rex, Emma’s vampire brother. He shows up after sensing Emma is in trouble. So many things going on at once makes for a lot of suspects to go through. With so much going on, the suspense wouldn’t let me put the book down. I had to finish it!

Owl's Fair (Book 2 of TOSWM)

What a hoot! Astra wasn't convinced when she received her magical owl on her birthday, but when Archie was only one part of her assignment required by the goddess, Athena...she couldn't decline. Didn't take long for her whole family of witches to join in and work together to make the goddess happy. First Astra and Emma worked well together with their similar background. And the story just got more and more complicated with pixies, and greedy humans and Emma's brother, Rex, being a vampire. Fun and complex!!

Great book.

Another star cards appeared, to an heiress that seemed to not hurt a fly?

Does Anna have secrets to hide? Not really.

Mainly that she's following the path of the Pixie?

So Astra and Emma go Pixie hunting.

They come across the chieftain, who thinks he's the man any woman wants. Talk about arrogant 🙄

But things take a really weird turn when Emma and Anna go all giggly over him. Think boy band fans on steroids!

Then a Vampire turns up.

Fab books, into book three!!!!!

Another glowing star card!!!
The team sets out to find the possible cause of a possible pending death and finds themselves buried in secrets and deception. Astra is slowly learning to work with her mother and sisters and has finally found a true best friend in Emma. She is also learning more about her goddess-sent owl, Archie, who happens to be at her side even when she isn't aware of it. Brilliant story!

enough with the politics

I found the heroine weak and deliberately refusing to see truth. Her sisters are annoying. Her Mother is just witchy with a “B”. She sounds like a immoral twit as well. Then when I’m willing to slog through it she has to make her snide jibs at conservatives and the issue of immigration. And you can tell the author is contemptuous of men. Enough. I just want to read to enjoy amusing tales with great men and strong women.

So so fun!!!!

Whatcha fun series it is starting as...I read the first book and thought it hilarious (go back and read book 1 to really enjoy this one but you can I guess start with it but I would not). Anyways, great characters, fun paranormal mysteries AND so many laughs. I accidentally ran into this author and this series and now I am making my way through this series because it is delightful. I can't say enough positive things about it

This series is really getting good well I wouldn't expect anything less from leeann leeds. I really enjoy the snarky comments and witty banter thrown around especially from the mother, she is hilarious and the owl OMG most amazing familiar to receive especially with the attitude he throws around. I received this book as an Arc for an unbiased review and I recommend to everyone I meet.

An enjoyable read

Another fun and entertaining read. A mix of paranormals that don't get along, a dysfunctional family dynamic, magic, and murder threat that needs to be stopped - what's not to like. Well written with a fast paced storyline that kept me engaged until the very end. Highly recommend.

Alice has drawn the star card and Astra has 72 hours to save her. What do we know about Alice? She follows the pixie path. And now we get to explore the Florida pixies as well as a Las Vegas vampire. This is another fun escape into the world of Astra and her family. I loved it.

Fun second book in the series

I enjoyed reading this book just as much as the first. The characters are fun and the story is light hearted, with plenty of paranormal shenanigans to keep you wondering what’s really going on. Looking forward to the next one.

Pixies?

How can a 7 inch tail pixie cause so much trouble in the human world? Well, money, greed and spite apparently abound even among some paranormals, a jilted pixie can be quite nasty! Astra is basically on her own on this one, her police partner is very under the weather, thanks in part to said jilted pixie and a nasty human female. Can Astra save her assignment and Emma?

Another great adventure

Ms. Leeds has written a interesting and action packed story. Astra and the gang receive another assignment from the Goddess Athena. The story involves the witches, pixes, and a vampire. In the end the mystery is solved and a murder prevented.

Pixies

Emma is madly infatuated by Pistachio the pixie chieftain. It is so out of character for her. Astral has to go to the pixie swamp to find out the truth and a cure. Will she be able to find out the truth and a cure in time?

Enjoyable read

Second book in the series read the first one as part of the book read. Continue reading in the series as it is such an enjoyable little mystery with a little flair. No one is actually murdered but stopped from being murdered. Read the series you'll be glad you did.

Pixies and a vampire

Another fun, wild story. A nasty reporter wants to expose the paranormals, and maybe do more. A human friend of a clan of pixies is the one threatened. Many humorous moments.

Pixie wars.

Astra and her family have a new client to keep alive. It's a little confusing for Astra and the sisters, seeing as the client is involved in a pixie love triangle.

I’m enjoying this series about Astra Arden a witch who is employed as the local Police Station's psychic. Joining the story this time we have pixies and a vampire, just to up the stakes a little.

A Fun Series

This series uses a different twist than most, starting just after a coup. The paranormal world is free. What will they do with that freedom?
