While the theology and scriptural basis behind demonic oppression and spiritual warfare is sound, Derek Prince made a lot of assumptions throughout this book about the application of the principles regarding these truths in the believers life. His methodology for deliverance from oppression is valuable, but there are certain aspects that don’t seem quite scriptural. One example being that salvation is not complete without baptism and deliverance from demon oppression cannot be accomplished without it. Another example is his stance on spiritual authority structures. These are biblical interpretation viewpoints, that I personally don’t agree with.
There are many things in this book I cannot agree with, but the main thing, that we have spiritual authority in Christ to name and expel the demonic, is really important. Modern Western post-enlightenment Christianity has divorced itself from the reality of spiritual warfare that is clear and present throughout all of scripture, especially in the NT. Although not the best book in addressing this reality in all of the scriptural interpretations and applications, at its core, it is a helpful book in reminding the reader that demonic oppression is real. It did not disappear. It’s a decent primer on the topic.
