Trusting others is one thing. But can you trust yourself?
Police Constable Neil Smith is terrified. He did something last night but he doesn’t know what. He’s on the floor of his bedroom with a raging hangover and bruised knuckles and no idea how he got there. The last thing he recalls is being fourteen miles away in another city, in another house, in another room.
The other room was a student flat, its owner a young woman he met at a nightclub. She was fun, feisty, no strings, no conversation. A beautiful blonde who couldn’t keep her hands off him. Just the kind of woman he likes…
Until she wasn’t.
Prior to last night, Neil was young, free, single, and committed to only three things. His job, his French Bulldog Millie and, after a long tough shift, indulging in his favourite pastime – women. It hadn’t always been that way. He was in love once, but she didn’t feel the same. Before that, he was quiet, moody, ridiculed for the things he couldn’t do and the faulty brain wiring that meant he had to work harder than everybody else to get to the same place. The taunts aimed his way would make him boil with rage and shame so that all he’d want to do is lash out.
Except all that was a long time ago now. Yet the past preys on his mind as he tries to remember the present. And when the messages start – warnings, threats, new taunts – he’s forced to look inward to confront the terrifying prospect of who he’s become. And what he might really be capable of.
Without Consent is a suspenseful and thought-provoking novel, and the second book in the emotionally gripping Code Zero series
“Kept me totally enthralled and guessing until the end.” “Amazing book.” “So nail-biting and, at the same time, touching.”
T.L. Dyer is a writer of character-driven fiction, including crime, police procedural and dystopia. Her stories and characters delve, discover and disrupt, always teetering precariously on that thin line between darkness and light, right and wrong, good and bad.
She is particularly keen on exploring those individuals who set themselves apart from the norm or who stray down a different path. Taking her lead from the characters themselves, she trails behind scribbling notes and trying to keep up as they take her on a breathless, heart-thumping and thought-provoking journey, with no knowing where she might end up.
T.L. lives in South Wales, UK, with her family and eternally bedraggled Yorkshire Terrier.

Second in the Code Zero Series and an absolute gem. Set in Wales, this story is about Smithy - a policeman who became a bit of a ladies' man after the love of his life married someone else and moved to New Zealand. However, they remained firm friends. Three things Smithy loves most are his Mother, his dog, Millie, and his best friend Lisa. He takes his job very seriously and has formed a special bond with one particular homeless man, for whom he has a soft spot. When Smithy meets a pretty, blonde girl at a nightclub things become complicated and Smithy's life takes a turn for the worse. To say more would spoil the story. Suffice to say that this is a truly amazing read that is both fast paced and filled with intrigue. The story takes the reader through all manner of emotions and is totally gripping from start to finish. Very highly recommended. P
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I enjoyed this thriller. The suspense kept me guessing to the end. The characters were flawed but believable and the dialogue made me feel like I was right there cheering them on. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy thrillers. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
3.5 stars. It's my fault. I like "the story" to start near the start of the book.
PC Neil Smith thinks something may have happened but doesn't know for sure. He doesn't talk with his boss. He doesn't really do anything about his concern.
