I loved the first book in this series. The second book, well, it's even better. I want to start the third yesterday!!! Fantastic story, great writing. I feel I'm getting smarter with every page, and the characters are more human, more relatable with every chapter.
Wow...Rachel is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
I have an ebook version of this so I read half of it and had the other half of it read to me. Add to that the fact that I am absolutely TERRIBLE at names...and this is some of the best character writing I have in recent memory. I almost feel like I know the main characters, and during the book I could tell who was talking even if I missed the name. Everything from the choice of words, the type of jokes made, even just the way they react screams out individuals.
The science (as far as I can tell) is great. I'm an application developer and I spin up things like what they do all the time.
My biggest complaint about the book is that it ends WAY too soon.
Book 2 of Rachel Lulich's Fractured Galaxy series, The Ethics of Hope, continues the story begun in book 1, Random Walk. This very believable and well-researched sci-fi tale follows the bleak plight of three astronauts derailed from their mission in the most frightening, yet incredible way possible! One of my favorite things about this book is the way Rachel Lulich crafts dialogue to continue the development of her characters and their relationships with each other and to space itself. With no assurance of rescue, the astronauts must balance their tasks (space walks, attempting to track location, and avoiding death!) with their mental and emotional processing of the completely novel experience they are navigating. A must-read! (And if you haven't already, check out book 1!)
DeAnyone Who gives this less than a 5 star must fancy themselves as a literary critic of the highest order. Rachel Lulich has done such a wonderful job 👏. A great, captivating story with enough hard science to make it real.
3.5 rounded down. Very good book, quite slow though. I might take a break with a non sci fi book between this and the third in the series! I still want to read it I just feel like i’ve been reading a LOT abt space. Which I like but it gets pretty technical sometimes which feels slow but important.
Just as good as the first. Nerve racking moments. Funny moments. I can't wait for the next book. My favorite part is the wife yelling at reporters in German.
Oh, my goodness, this is human drama at its most existential, and least maudlin. My husband is all ready to order me the third in the series, due for distribution in December 2022--can't wait!
