In a world teetering on the edge of destruction, one woman's journey of self-discovery collides with a dark elf's fight for justice.
Raisa Sorokin, a Russian Night Witch, grew up on her grandmother’s Norse tales of valor and glory, never suspecting that those legends were real. But when her plane crashes, Raisa is thrust into a new reality, forced to reconcile her past with the man who saved her life.
Ailuin Vakas, a dark elf bound to Óðinn’s will, has been fueling Hitler’s war machine against his better judgment. When he shares his life force to save Raisa, the path they must walk together becomes perilous as they face an ancient evil infiltrating the Nazi ranks.
As the Nazi war machine continues its relentless march, Raisa and Ailuin are confronted with an impossible choice: stop Hitler and his Third Reich or protect those they love—and themselves—from the darkness threatening to consume them.
Whether writing epic fantasy/paranormal, WWII, or historical western romance, Heidi Vanlandingham’s books are sweet, where characters are inspired to overcome life’s hardships and loving families build strong communities.
Heidi's words: I grew up near the panhandle of Oklahoma—what I claim is the “treeless armpit” of the state. While I dream of pines and mountains, my love of family keeps me here. My favorite things in life are laughter, in-depth talks with my son, fantasy-paranormal/western romance, music, and road trips.
A dark elf working for the great Odin merges his energy with dying night witch Raisa and the world as she knows it changes forever. Growing up, Raisa Sorokin heard stories of Norse gods and goddesses, heroic tales she never imagined were true. While flying as a night witch, her plane crashes. A man who calls himself Ailuin Vakes saves her by feeding her body a part of his magical essence. The world shifts and both Raisa and Ailuin must choose which side of the war they're aligning with. An ancient evil has woven itself inside Hitler's army, one hungry for hatred and bloodshed. Can Raisa be the warrior queen she's destined to be, or will she choose love?
The Warrior Queen is a thrilling fantasy romance I couldn't put down. I love a strong, independent heroine and Raisa is that and so much more. I connected with her right away. I also found Ailuin fascinating. As a die-hard fantasy reader, Ailuin is a dichotomy, and his conflicting desires make for a compelling read. Heidi Vanlandingham again blends historical fiction with fantasy romance brilliantly. She weaves a world so believable, you'll be sucked into the story. The romance itself was perfectly paced and didn't overtake the other parts of the story. I applaud Heidi Vanlandingham for a creepy antagonist and ancient evil subplot. It captured my attention and I enjoyed trying to figure it out before Raisa did. What makes this a must-read in my opinion is the 'duty versus love' theme. It's subtle but potent and makes for an incredible reading experience. I can't wait to read the final book in the series to see how it all wraps up. Highly recommend!
Voracious Readers review : This book was so smoothly written. They was no moments of wondering what the heck is going on. The words just flowed together so well, that I could not help but reading until I finished. Raise and Ailuin are such a beautiful couple, they were not looking for each other but find each other they did. They did not believe they were worthy of each other but thought loving and trusting each other they felt worthy. He saved her life by giving of his very soul and she saved him by loving him for who he is.
It's a good thing she is a goddess because they amount of time she impulsively heads into a situation is just crazy.
I love this series but this one is incredibly good. It is set in 1944, a critical year in the war and begins in Ukraine. Our newest night witch, Raisa, brings a new dimension to the story. Through her, new mythical characters are introduced to the series. The author's expertise with blending history and myth is superb in this one...Sevastopol, Normandy, Monte Cassino, and even the assassination attempt of Hitler all make an appearance. This was just so good!
Excellent, a great story with a strong pair of lead characters, the night witch pilot and the dark elf. The third in the series works as a standalone but even better if you read the previous ones. The story combines several threads that interest me, the night witches, Horse mythology and world war 2. Looking forward to the next one. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy from StoryOrigin and am leaving a honest voluntary review.
If you have a love of history this is the author for you. Set in WWII with Russian Night Witch pilots, you become immersed in the history of the period. Add in some Norse Gods/Goddess for strength and power, elves and werewolves and you've checked all the boxes for a powerful story
