The 20 Minute Series heads Stateside for a dramatic Saturday night on The Strip!
In a city of bright lights, big bankrolls and scorching heat, several characters will return in a place where dreams are made or crushed on the spin of a wheel or the turn of a card. For some, it will be their lucky night, but for others, their fortunes are going to fade faster than the sunlight sinking behind the desert mountains...

If this were a tv series there would be masses of Jelena and Bagdon followers creating memes, merch, and podcast about how freaking cute this couple is and how the entire nation is rooting for them. I literally have a cavity from reading all their interactions they are that freaking sweet. I want to put them into a protective bubble for the rest of this series and demand that adversity no longer exist for them.
April... I know I have a love hate with her but I have to admit her Vegas experience was pretty freaking cool.
Harry- OMFG did I NOT, Did I NOT just say in the book 10 review that I am so glad this kid had stayed out of trouble and had positive things happen for him?!?! Nope, he travels to Vegas with his Football team and in true Harry fashion trouble finds him. Or in his case it's just bad decisions and peer pressure.
Will- Why?? Why did the author create such a talented, thoughtful, kind young man that then just think of ways to shit on him??
Mark- He makes me want to go out and donate real money to The Ronald McDonald house
Kelly- Ya'll remember early on when I had an intense hatred and ranted about Joe Swan?? Then I got worked up over the fact that Valentin is such as ass?? Yeah, Kelly is dangerously close to tipping over into the douche canoe level of hate with those two. She makes NO sense. I mean I get it. As far as the fact that she feels like she owns Tom's ass. Once mine always mine. But come on?? It's one thing to think crazy thoughts and another to be just straight up crazy. SMH
The next book takes place 9 hours after this one. I am very very interested to see how things play out for a few of the newbies. Fingers crossed that the characters I like remain safe and accounted for.
It's been two months since the events of "20 Minutes to Change a Life" and everyone involved has travelled to Las Vegas to partake in whatever event has lead them there. And once we got past the requisite gambling, then the stories did get more interesting.
After winning the lottery at the end of the last book, Jelena and Bogdan are enjoying one of the last stops on their holiday with their new-found wealth. Their humble beginnings are not lost on them and while £20 million is a lot of dosh, they are not frittering it away willy-nilly. After buying their new home in London, giving Jelena's mum a comfortable amount to live on and this their impromptu holiday, they will return to the UK with a new purpose and a new appreciation of life.
Many of our favourites return for their trip to Vegas with a couple of new faces added to the story. Lindsey and Diego are there for their respective hen and stag dos; Tom is on another stag do with his wife Kelly stalking him (please may she fall into Valentin's sights!); Harry getting up to his usual mischief; Will is there with girlfriend Chantelle and sister Louise but moments before he takes the stage, receives some devastating news; Mark has raised the funds for his 9 year old son to receive this potentially life-changing treatment; April is holidaying with friends and still getting blotto, but this time her story comes with a twist that is interesting (though I don't subscribe to such nonsense in the real world); Valentin is lurking but just as a spectator this time...that is, until he returns to the UK; and then there is Carol, still here with hubby Steve, enjoying the sights Vegas has to offer.
New faces are in the form of a father of child who had been under the same treatment Mark's son is, though it didn't help her and the father is now set on making the clinic pay. There is also the Black Jack dealer Nancy who has a secret. Boxer Leon takes to the ring tonight to fight Russian Dmitri. And Jill has taken a gamble and jetsetting where ever the travel agent chooses for her. Ethan who joined last book also returned for his poker tournament, though it wasn't very interesting. And Ronnie also pops up, unfortunately.
So many stories in just 20 minutes in a snapshot of time. The next book takes place just nine hours after these events which, considering how things ended for many of those this time round, will be interesting to see how they will all pan out.
In true Hurst fashion, I am turning the pages as quick as I can to see what's coming next...!!
Book 11 shifts the 20 Minutes series to Vegas and while the setting changes, the chaos stays constant.
Jelena and Bogdan return as one of the emotional anchors of the series. They’ve finally caught a break after winning the lottery, and are living large in the US. But you just know that peace won’t last. And sure enough, trouble finds them again. Valentin resurfaces in a big way, forming a dangerous bond with another rich psychopath and their shared desire for violence opens up a whole new level of threat.
Meanwhile, Will continues to break your heart. Just when things start looking up for him, the rug gets pulled out. There’s grief, emotional spiraling, and a painful moment right before a huge performance that really hits hard.
We also get a few standout new POVs. Nancy, a blackjack dealer who has a shocking secret of her own, was a highlight. And April has a chilling scene at a psychic show that might finally connect some dots in the investigation into Katie’s death. There are definitely filler-ish chapters and a few characters that feel like setup for future chaos, but overall the Vegas setting breathes fresh energy into the series.
By the end, a young character is in danger, the Valentin situation is spiraling, and the walls are slowly closing in on multiple characters. Hurst knows how to weave tension and remind you that no one is safe. This wasn’t the strongest book of the series but it delivered on emotion, escalation, and dread. And as always, it ends with a quiet gut-punch that makes you immediately open the next book.
3.8 I have given 4 but mostly 5 stars to every book of Hurst that I read. His books are stand alone short stories but really should be read in some type of order. My bad on this one. In this book the author introduces many players, one by one, chapter by chapter. All have come from the UK to Las Vegas independently of each other for the weekend. We are told their reasons of why, and what they hope to achieve. I love these clever stories as well as the writing. Hurst includes everything it takes to make the reader want to keep turning the page.
I really enjoyed 20 Minutes In Las Vegas by Daniel Hurst book 11 a series of interconnected short stories which are so exciting. Events take place two months after 20 Minutes To Change A Life.
What fate or misfortune awaits all our characters old and new when they arrive in Las Vegas only time will tell.
That was not what I thought it would be. Of course, I'm not writing the book...thank God. It wasn't bad...of course not. I was expecting characters to bump into one another, I guess. So, that was surprising. Also, who would have thought that girl would have played Russian Roulette without being coerced? Yikes!!!
Can't say a great deal more than I have already said in my reviews of the sketchbooks in the 20 minutes series. I am still totally addicted and want to know how things end for the characters in the book. Definitely recommend you read the 20 minutes series
This is book 11 in the Hurst 20-minute series. 20 people - some returning from previous books, and others new, converge in Vegas and over twenty minutes they are faced with difficulties and challenges. Moving onto next book to see what happens next!
Another brilliant book.marvellous characters first-class story the people are believable.the books keep getting better and better where will it all end
I’m a big fan of Daniel Hurst books. And in particular, his 20 minute series. This is the 11th instalment of the 20 book series and it’s another winner for me!
Catching up with some old favourites and meeting some newbies, there’s the perfect mix of continuation of stories with just enough new intrigue. With only a week between release of this and the next in the series, I devoured this in a few days.
I really want to say more about this series, but there would be spoilers galore. As usual, the characters paths cross in Vegas. They are all there for different reasons. Not all of them have a happy time, and t's the end of the road for some.
I have to admit whilst there was some good development in this book, it felt like a first part. It following so closely to the next book furthers this, there is a lot of build up and minimal payoff which was ok since the next book was already released but would be rather irritating otherwise.
The entire book also had the overarching themes of gambling, money and partying (nothing new for books set in Vegas) but 20 separate storylines with the same themes got a bit repetitive at some points.
