দৈনিক ১ ঘণ্টা জেগে থাকা নায়কের কনসেপ্ট যদি একটা বইয়ের ইউনিকনেস-এর মাপকাঠি হয়, তাহলে এ বই উৎরে গেছে। ১ ঘণ্টা কর্মক্ষম নায়ক ছাড়া নতুন কিছু nei কাহিনিতে। ঘটনাগুলোর যেন হাত-পা আছে - হেঁটে হেঁটে হিরোর কাছে চলে আসে। অবশ্য দিন-রাত মিলিয়ে ১ ঘণ্টা কাজ করার সময় পেলে এ ছাড়া আর উপায়ও বা কী!
পুরো বইয়ে সবচেয়ে উপভোগ্য বিড়াল ল্যাসির সাথে বিনসের কথোপকথন। তবে, ল্যাসির সাথে তার আলাপচারিতাটাও এক জায়গায় যুক্তির ঊর্ধ্বে চলে যায়, যখন বিনস বিড়ালটার সাথে কথা বলে জানতে পারে তার ঘরে দু'জন অনুপ্রবেশকারী ঢুকে আড়ি পাতার যন্ত্র লাগিয়ে গেছে। (এমন একটা বিড়াল থাকলে মন্দ হইত না! :3 )
মোটের উপর মন্দ না। টাইম পাস হিসেবে পড়তে ভাল্লাগছে। পপকর্নের মতো। দেখতে দেখতে শেষ হয়ে গেছে।
অনুবাদ খুবই উপভোগ্য ছিল। আগের বইয়ের ছোটখাটো কিছু ত্রুটির বেশিরভাগই এ বইয়ে কাটিয়ে উঠতে পেরেছেন অনুবাদক। ফলে অনুবাদটা আরও উপভোগ্য হয়েছে। মূল কাহিনীর চেয়ে অনুবাদটাই বেশি ভালো লেগেছে।

I like the characters. I especially love the cat! I just find the premise entertaining even if it’s not all that believable. Sometimes it’s just fun to play along. 3.5 stars!!

I like this book. You wait for what's coming next after every chapter ends, has the suspense that holds you to the pages till the end and it held me too ;)
I love the part where Henry talks with Lassie (i find it humorous) but *TO BE HONEST* it seemed very unnatural to me when Henry's house is bugged and Lassie PRETENDS to be sick and 'Lets Henry Know About The House Being Bugged'. (??)
Anyway, it has comedy, a bit of romance, thrill, suspense and a good story so loved the most of it❤

I love the part where Henry talks with Lassie (i find it humorous) but *TO BE HONEST* it seemed very unnatural to me when Henry's house is bugged and Lassie PRETENDS to be sick and 'Lets Henry Know About The House Being Bugged'. (??)
Anyway, it has comedy, a bit of romance, thrill, suspense and a good story so loved the most of it❤

Nice. As usual Henry Bins's life was at stake. How? To know the answer please read the book. :)
But my question is why always Henry Bins?
The story is so so. Not so thrilling, but not so bad either. Sometimes Henry Bins seemed to be a super human. How did he do so many things in one hour? How come?
A good time pass. Nothing much. But I'll definitely read the following books as well. :)
Now come to the translation. I have read both 3:00 AM and 3:10 AM in Bengali translation done by সালমান হক. The translation is outstanding. Salman did it very well. That is the translation why I have read the book so fast. :)

"থ্রি এ এম" থেকে এটা আমার বেশি ভালো লেগেছে। কারণ এই বইয়ের ব্যাপারে কিছুই জানলাম না আগে থেকে, তাই টুইস্ট এন্ড টার্ন গুলো মজাই লেগেছে। অনুবাদক এই বইতেও তার স্ট্যান্ডার্ড ধরে রেখেছেন। আমার চোখে অনুবাদের তেমন কোন খুঁত ধরা পরেনি।
কিন্তু...... মূল বইয়ে কিছু সমস্যা আছে।
বইটা পড়তে গিয়ে মনে হল সবকিছু কেমন জানি বড় বেশি সহজ, বেশি কাকতালীয়! বিড়ালের সাথে কথোপকথন অনেকটা নিজের সাথে কথা বলার মতই, যারা কুকুর বা বিড়াল পালেন তারা এমনটা করেই থাকেন। কিন্তু তাই বলে দুইজন লোক ঘরে আসার ব্যাপারে বিড়ালের মাধ্যমে জানতে পারা! এটা লেখক কিভাবে লিখলেন মাথায় ঢুকেনি। বইয়ে যেভাবে লেখা- 'এরপর ল্যাসি বলল কালকের ঘটনা। ও মহা আরামে ঘুমাচ্ছিল....' পুরোটা তুলে দিয়ে লেখা বড় করা অর্থহীন। অবশ্য লেখক যদি তার পরবর্তী বইয়ে বলে দেন যে হেনরির অলৌকিক ক্ষমতা আছে, তাহলে ঠিক আছে। -_-
আসলে একে তো নভেলা, তার উপর সিরিজ, তাই একটা দুইটা বই পড়ে বিচার করলে যথার্থ হবে না। বোঝাই যায় লেখক একটু একটু করে সুতো ছাড়ছেন। প্রথম দুটি বই পড়ে মনে হলো এই দুটো আসলে ভূমিকা, মূল অংশ রয়েই গেছে।
এই বইয়ের শেষে তো ইঙ্গিতই দিয়েছেন কেন হেনরির এই অদ্ভূত মেডিক্যাল কন্ডিশন হয়েছে সে ব্যাপারে। লেখক পরবর্তী বইয়ে এই ব্যাপারে ডিটেইলস রেখেছেন, সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর সেখানেই পাওয়া যাবে। তাই এখন না হয় পরবর্তী বইয়ের অপেক্ষাই করি।

হেনরি বিনস ফিরে এসেছেন। তবে তাঁর 'হেনরি বিনস সিনড্রোম' কোথাও যায় নি।
উল্লেখিত মেডিকেল কন্ডিশনে যারা থাকেন তাদের পুরো দিনে জাগ্রত অবস্থা ১ ঘন্টার এবং ঘুমন্ত অবস্থা ২৩ ঘন্টার।
নিক পিরোগের রচনা এবং সালমান হকের অনুবাদে থ্রি : টেন এ এম পড়া হলো। বিনসের এক ঘন্টা জেগে থাকা অবস্থাটি থ্রিলার উপন্যাসিকাটিকে বেশি টানটান উত্তেজনাময় এবং ফাস্ট রিড করার অন্যতম প্রধান কারণ।
তাছাড়া ঐ ১ ঘন্টায় হেনরি বিনস অনেক কাজই করার অভ্যাস করেছেন। তাঁর দৈনন্দিন অল্প সময়ের ভিতর সমাপ্ত-অর্ধসমাপ্ত-অসমাপ্ত কর্মকান্ডের বর্ণনা ইন্ট্যারেস্টিং।
এবার থ্রি : টেন এ এমে হেনরি বিনস নতুন তথ্যের সন্ধান পেয়েছেন। এ সকল তথ্য তাঁর রহস্যময়ী মাকে নিয়ে। জীবনে খুব অল্প সময়ের জন্য পাওয়া জন্মদায়িনির আকস্মিক উধাও হয়ে যাওয়া নিয়ে বিনসের বাবাও পরিষ্কার করে কিছু বলেন নি কখনো।

এক ঘন্টার যাপনে অতি দ্রুততার সাথে বিনস, তাঁর বাবা, পোষা বেড়াল ল্যাসি, বাবার পোষা দানবীয় কুকুর মারডক, ইউএসএর প্রেসিডেন্ট কনোর স্যুলিভান স্বয়ং জড়িয়ে পড়েন আমেরিকার ইমেজের জন্য বিব্রতকর এক মিস্ট্রিতে।
নাইন ইলেভেনের পর সন্ত্রাসের বিরুদ্ধে অনন্ত যুদ্ধের সাইড ইফেক্টও ভালোভাবে প্রকাশিত হওয়ার পথে চলে আসে পাকেচক্রে।
নিক পিরোগ দ্রুতগতিময়তার সুন্দর ছন্দে নভেলা লিখেছেন যথারীতি। সমান্তরালে সালমান হক বেশ ভালো অনুবাদ করেছেন। হেনরি বিনসের অরিজিন স্টোরি হয়তো সামনের পর্বেই পেয়ে যেতে পারি।

বইয়ের সাইজ আরেকটু বড় হলে ১ দিতাম। সাইজ ছোট করার জন্য একটু বেশি দিলাম।
এই বইয়ের এতো বেশি রেটিং কেন বুঝলাম না। দিনে এক ঘন্টা জেগে থাকার ব্যপারটা চমৎকার। নতুনত্ব আছে। বইয়ে তার মা যেসব ক্লু দিয়ে গেছে সেগুলো যত সহজে নায়ক ধরে ফেললো তার পেছনে কোন যৌক্তিক ব্যাখ্যা দেওয়া হলো না। ব্যপারটা এমন যেনো ট্যালিপ্যাথিক ক্ষমতা দিয়ে তার মা তাকে বলে দিচ্ছে। গল্পের মূল পার্ট টাতেই গোঁজামিল।
গল্পের ফিনিশিং টা ভালো ছিলো। তাছাড়া তেমন কিছুই ভালো লাগে নাই।

April 5, 2017হেনরি বিনস আর মজা লাগে না। প্রথম পর্ব মানে থ্রি এ এম নিয়ে মাতামাতি দেখে ভাবসিলাম না জানি কি কাহিনী! খুব একটা ভাল লাগে নাই। কিন্তু টাইম পাসের জন্য অকে। হেনরি বিনস সিরিজের দ্বিতীয় বইটা পড়েও হতাশ। সেই একঘেয়ে কাহিনী।অনেকটা ছোটবেলায় দেখা স্কুবি ডু সিরিজের কাহিনীর মতো। পজেটিভ দিক একটাই বইটার অনুবাদ খুব ভাল ।

As stated in my review of the first book, I'm listening to the free Audible offering of all five books in this series from Nick Pirog. I discovered the series after a similar offer led me to his Thomas Prescott novels.
This is a smooth transition from his first book of this series, six months after the fact. Henry is still a day-trader, making a financial killing so he doesn't have to worry about his condition that causes him to sleep 23 hours a day, only staying awake from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. He has a girlfriend who doesn't seem to mind only spending that one hour with him a couple times a week. Considering she's a homicide detective, it's likely this relationship suits her just fine. He has a housekeeper that we never see, only hear about how she takes care of all his daily needs such as food prepping, cleaning, setting up his Amazon purchases when they arrive, etc. And he has a loving father who seems like an amazing man who has raised his son after his wife walked out on them both when Henry was 6 years old.
The suspension of belief required to get through these stories is still present in this book. We find out that Henry's association with the President of the United States continues, even to the point of 3 a.m. poker games with his dad and the POTUS. Ok. Ok. Do any of us Goodreaders REALLY know what the president does behind closed doors or how he/she gets about undetected at all hours of the day? No. No we do not. So, ok. I'll accept this. It's a school-boy fantasy that a dude can be financially independent, solve crimes and be besties with the POTUS, including one-upping his secret service crew.
I'll also accept that Bins has a really wonderful relationship with his super-duper highly intelligent rescue kitty Lassie. Lassie the wonder cat does all kinds of awesome tricks at Bins' command, and they have literal conversations that Pirog uses as an expository tool as well as a source of humor to lighten the mood. Ok. I like it. I'm ok with this.
What I CAN'T get past in this book is that the conversations Bins has with Lassie are not limited to just a cat dude talking to his only companion at 3 a.m. These conversations expand faaaar beyond the boundary of exposition to become sentient dialogue where plots are created and agreed upon – not only by Lassie the cat, but by Bins' dad and HIS dog. At one point, Henry, his dad, the dog and the cat, carry out a full-blown black ops switch and bait where the animals acted as decoys on command, fooling the secret service into believing they are incapacitated whilst Henry's dad scoots off into the night leading the SS to follow him away from Henry so Henry can make his way across state in his dad's car.
These are the plot points I watched as a child in the Benjie and Cat From Outer Space movies back in the 1970s. These are fun in fantasyland but are in no way believable plot devices in a story where at all other turns the author seems to be trying to create a legitimate, riveting whodunit. Again, this series has all the high-action tropes of a super spy thriller but the silliness of a cozy mystery and it just doesn't quite know which table to sit at. And the fact that – again, a guy who has only been awake one hour a day for his entire life – the protagonist has NO special training or education, he just happens to be über-smart and crafty, figuring out the most obtuse set of clues AND leads a pack of characters consisting of veteran police, secret service, and the POTUS trailing behind him as he makes his way to the reveal.
Don't get me started on all the things Henry accomplishes in one hour. I don't know about you, but I blinked and my 40s disappeared. The only time time slows down for most of us is between lunch and 5pm? When you're out and about in the game, getting stuff done and your blood is pumping, an hour is GONE in no time flat.
I get it, Henry has learned to make the most of literally every second of his hour of wakefulness. But to tromp through the woods...find a hidden door...climb into a dark basement and reveal a murderer while being beaten all within 40 minutes.
It just makes NO SENSE...
...except...oh...yeah: Henry's mother. There's the game changer right there as she is the one character who may be Henry Bins' saving grace regarding allllllll the questions. We are given a glimpse into Henry's lineage as well as his condition. The truth behind both is rather heartbreaking yet tinged with hope for a normal future. There was a line in the first book that mentioned Henry always falls asleep at 3 a.m., no matter where he is in the world, no matter what time zone. My little WTF radar picked up on that leading me to ask myself if it is in fact a psychological condition rather than a medical one. And here we are...getting a somewhat reasonable explanation of what on earth is going on with Henry. We may learn not only why he always falls asleep at 3 a.m., but just where he might get his super-sleuthing shenanigans skills from. It's not from his technical writing dad, so mom is an important device that makes me want to learn more.
Damn you Pirog. You've hooked me onto #3.

He has a housekeeper that we never see, only hear about how she takes care of all his daily needs such as food prepping, cleaning, setting up his Amazon purchases when they arrive, etc. And he has a loving father who seems like an amazing man who has raised his son after his wife walked out on them both when Henry was 6 years old.
The suspension of belief required to get through these stories is still present in this book. We find out that Henry's association with the President of the United States continues, even to the point of 3 a.m. poker games with his dad and the POTUS. Ok. Ok. Do any of us Goodreaders REALLY know what the president does behind closed doors or how he/she gets about undetected at all hours of the day? No. No we do not. So, ok. I'll accept this. It's a school-boy fantasy that a dude can be financially independent, solve crimes and be besties with the POTUS, including one-upping his secret service crew.
I'll also accept that Bins has a really wonderful relationship with his super-duper highly intelligent rescue kitty Lassie. Lassie the wonder cat does all kinds of awesome tricks at Bins' command, and they have literal conversations that Pirog uses as an expository tool as well as a source of humor to lighten the mood. Ok. I like it. I'm ok with this.
What I CAN'T get past in this book is that the conversations Bins has with Lassie are not limited to just a cat dude talking to his only companion at 3 a.m. These conversations expand faaaar beyond the boundary of exposition to become sentient dialogue where plots are created and agreed upon – not only by Lassie the cat, but by Bins' dad and HIS dog. At one point, Henry, his dad, the dog and the cat, carry out a full-blown black ops switch and bait where the animals acted as decoys on command, fooling the secret service into believing they are incapacitated whilst Henry's dad scoots off into the night leading the SS to follow him away from Henry so Henry can make his way across state in his dad's car.
These are the plot points I watched as a child in the Benjie and Cat From Outer Space movies back in the 1970s. These are fun in fantasyland but are in no way believable plot devices in a story where at all other turns the author seems to be trying to create a legitimate, riveting whodunit. Again, this series has all the high-action tropes of a super spy thriller but the silliness of a cozy mystery and it just doesn't quite know which table to sit at. And the fact that – again, a guy who has only been awake one hour a day for his entire life – the protagonist has NO special training or education, he just happens to be über-smart and crafty, figuring out the most obtuse set of clues AND leads a pack of characters consisting of veteran police, secret service, and the POTUS trailing behind him as he makes his way to the reveal.
Don't get me started on all the things Henry accomplishes in one hour. I don't know about you, but I blinked and my 40s disappeared. The only time time slows down for most of us is between lunch and 5pm? When you're out and about in the game, getting stuff done and your blood is pumping, an hour is GONE in no time flat.
I get it, Henry has learned to make the most of literally every second of his hour of wakefulness. But to tromp through the woods...find a hidden door...climb into a dark basement and reveal a murderer while being beaten all within 40 minutes.
It just makes NO SENSE...
...except...oh...yeah: Henry's mother. There's the game changer right there as she is the one character who may be Henry Bins' saving grace regarding allllllll the questions. We are given a glimpse into Henry's lineage as well as his condition. The truth behind both is rather heartbreaking yet tinged with hope for a normal future. There was a line in the first book that mentioned Henry always falls asleep at 3 a.m., no matter where he is in the world, no matter what time zone. My little WTF radar picked up on that leading me to ask myself if it is in fact a psychological condition rather than a medical one. And here we are...getting a somewhat reasonable explanation of what on earth is going on with Henry. We may learn not only why he always falls asleep at 3 a.m., but just where he might get his super-sleuthing shenanigans skills from. It's not from his technical writing dad, so mom is an important device that makes me want to learn more.
Damn you Pirog. You've hooked me onto #3.

নিক পিরোগের লেখার সাথে পরিচয়, সিরিজের আগের বইটা দিয়ে। থ্রি:এ এম।হেনরি বিন্স সিরিজে নিক পিরোগ, শ্বাসরুদ্ধকর ঢং এ লেখেননি। খুব হালকা স্ট্রোকে শেষ করে ফেলেন গল্প। তার ওপর, ল্যাসি আর হেনরি’র কথপোকথন; ল্যাসি-মারডকের কুসুম কুসুম প্রেম; গল্পটাকে বইয়ের ওজনের মতোই হালকা রাখে সবসময়। সিরিজটা এ কারণেই আমার পছন্দের। থৃলার মানেই ভারী গল্প, টান-টান উত্তেজনায় মেরুদন্ড সোজা, চোখের পাতা খোলা অহর্নিশ; এ জায়গাটা ভেঙেছেন নিক পিরোগ।
এভাবে লিখবেন বলেই কি না, গল্পটাও ফাঁদেন একটু হালকাই। কলেবর বেশি না, নেই ছুটোছুটি দেশের বা দুনিয়ার এ মাথা থেকে ও মাথা। সে সুযোগও কই? ১ ঘন্টা জেগে থাকা লোক, কই কই ছুটবে কিভাবে?
বিরক্ত হচ্ছেন? ওপরেই তো বলে এসছি, আসেন গ্যাঁজাই। গ্যাঁজানোতো এমনই। পাঠ-প্রতিক্রিয়া তো শুরুতেই শেষ--- “ভাল। কিছুটা বায়বীয়।”
আমার কেন যেন মনে হয় সিরিজের প্রথম ২টা বই মূল সঙ্গীত না, প্রিল্যূড মাত্র। মূল ব্যাপারটা আসবে পরে। মূল ব্যাপারটায় পৌঁছানোর আগে, এই ২ বই হ্যাভ বিন সার্ভড দেয়ার পারপাজ ভালভাবেই। প্রথম বইয়ে অদ্ভূৎ মেডিক্যাল কন্ডিশানের চার্ম কাটার আগেই বই শেষ। আর ২য়টাতে ইঙ্গিত থাকলো সামনে কি আসতে যাচ্ছে, ১ ঘন্টা জেগে থাকার অদ্ভূৎ কন্ডিশানের পেছনের গল্প টা কি। তাই আমার মনে হয়েছে প্রথম বইদুটো মূল সঙ্গীত না, প্রিল্যূড মাত্র। ধারণা করি, ৩য় বইটার বিক্রি সবচাইতে বেশি হবে ওয়ার্ল্ড ওয়াইড।
ভাল। একটা মাইন্ড সেটাপের বিষয় আছে এখানে। “থ্রি:এ এম” পড়ার বেলায় সেটা ছিলনা বলে বইটা খারাপই লেগেছিল। পরে বুঝতে পেরেছি, খারাপ লাগাটা ঠিক না। মাইন্ড সেটাপ ছিলনা বলে খারাপ লেগেছে, লেখকের দোষ না। থৃলার বলতে যা বুঝি, হেনরি বিন্স তেমন না। এই মাইন্ড সেটাপ টা জরুরী। নয়তো খটকা লাগবে, পড়তে গিযে প্রত্যাশা পূরণ হবেনা। সেটাই বা হবে কেন? যেখানে বিড়ালের সাথে কথপোকথন বিশ্বাস করে নিচ্ছেন আপনি, সে বইয়ে ইউ.এস.এ’র প্রেসিডেন্ট একটু এলে-বেলে হতেই পারে।
তবে, এ বইটাতে একটা নোট টুকে রেখেছি। ল্যাসি এক জায়গায় জানায়, “ঘরে আগন্তুক এসছিল”। এর আগের কথপোকথন মানতে কষ্ট হয়নি কিন্তু এই জায়গাটা ভাবায়। আমার বিশ্বাস, এর একটা ব্যাখ্যা পাব। আর, প্রেসিডেন্ট এবং ইনগ্রিড যেভাবে হেনরিকে ইনভল্ব করেছে কেইসটাতে, সে জায়গাতে আপত্তি আছে কিছুটা। একটু বেশিই বায়বীয় লেগেছে।
তাই থ্রি:টেন এ এম, ভাল এবং বায়বীয় কিছুটা।
অনুবাদ ভাল। অনেক আরামের অনুবাদ, আরাম করে পড়া গ্যাছে। অনুবাদককে অভিনন্দন। সফলভাবে এবং নিজের মান ধরে রেখে, আরও একটি তুলতুলে অনুবাদ করেছেন।

হেনরি বিনস, দিনের ২৩ ঘন্টাই তাকে ঘুমিয়ে কাটাতে হয়। এটা এক অদ্ভুত রোগ যে রোগে একমাত্র হেনরি বিনস'ই আক্রান্ত। প্রতিদিন রাত ৩ টায় তার ঘুম ভেঙে যায় আবার ঠিক ৪ টায় ঘুমিয়ে পরে। হয়তো দু'এক মিনিট এদিক ওদিক হয় কালেভদ্রে, তার বেশি না।
নিক পিরোগ এর হেনরি বিনস সিরিজ এই হেনরি বিনসকে নিয়েই আবর্তিত হয়েছে। চরিত্র ভাবনাটা দারুন ইউনিক। কিন্তু সিরিজের দুটো বই পড়ে ফেলার পর সিরিজটাকে আমার ওভার রেটেড মনে হচ্ছে। সবকিছু কেমন যেন খুব সোজা সোজা মনে হয় বইগুলো পড়তে গেলে। আসলে যেহেতু গল্পের নায়ক একটা পুরো দিনে মাত্র একঘণ্টা জেগে থাকে তাই এছারা মনে হয় লেখকের আর কোন উপায় ও ছিল না। তবে বইটার সবথেকে বিরক্তিকর ব্যাপার হল বিড়াল ল্যাসির সাথে নায়ক বিনস এর কথোপকথন। যারা পশু পাখি ভালবাসে ও পো���ে তারা তাদের পালিত প্রানীর কিছু আকার ইঙ্গিত বুঝতে পারে, যেমন ধরুন খিদে পেয়েছে কিনা, আদর করতে হবে কিনা, পটি করবে কিনা, এগুলো দীর্ঘদিন একত্রে থাকার ফলে বোঝা যায়। কিন্তু তাই বলে বিড়াল মিউ বলবে আর আপনি বুঝে ফেলবেন আপনার বাসায় দুজন এসে আড়ি পাতার যন্ত্র লাগিয়ে রেখে গেছে, এটা থ্রিলার প্রেমীদের জন্য একটু জঘন্য লাগে বৈকি।
যাই হোক, বইটা ছোট ও উপভোগ্য, হাতে ঘন্টা খানেক ফ্রি টাইম থাকলে পড়ে ফেলা যায়।

বইটির শুরুতে খুবই বোর হইচ্ছিলাম,কোনোরকমে শেষ হলে ভালো হয় ভাবছিলাম কিন্তু শেষের দিকটা ভালো ছিলো।
তবে এতো এতো রেটিং দেখে সিরিজটি শুরু করে আশাহত হচ্ছি।
বইটির কিছু বিষয় হজম করতে পারিনি। হেনরি বিনস কিভাবে ল্যাসির কথা শুনে বুঝে যায় এতো কিছু??

বইটার কাহিনী যে খুব চমকপ্রদ তা মনে হয়নি। কিন্তু অনুবাদ বেশ ভালো হয়েছে, আগেরটার চাইতে বেশি সাবলীল মনে হয়েছে। বই এর রেটিং ৩ হলেও, অনুবাদের রেটিং ৪ নিঃসন্দেহে।

হেনরি বিনস সিরিজের বইগুলি সহজ এবং সাবলীল। অতি দ্রুত পড়ে ফেলার মতো উপন্যাস। অল্প সময়ের ভিতরে বই পড়ে শেষ করতে আমি পছন্দ করি। সেই হিসেবে হেনরি বিনস সিরিজের বইগুলি আমার পছন্দের তালিকায় রয়েছে। আর যদি বলি এই উপন্যাসটি পড়ে কেমন লেগেছে? তাহলে বলবো, মোটামোটি! পুরো উপন্যাসের ভিতরে শুধু একটা জায়গাতে আমার কাছে ভালো লাগেনি। বিড়ালের সাথে কথোপকথনের মাধ্যমে হেনরি বিনস জানতে পারে তার ঘরে দু’জন অনুপ্রবেশকারী ঢুকেছিল। আমি এর মধ্যে কোন যুক্তি খুজে পায়নি। আর হ্যাঁ, অনুবাদক অনেক সুন্দর অনুবাদ করেছেন বলতেই হবে।

বইটা নিঃসন্দেহে জোশ ছিলো! হেনরি বিনস সিরিজ আপনাকে শেষ পর্যন্ত ধরে রাখতে সক্ষম।একের পর এক রহস্য,থ্রিল! লেখকের জবাব হয় না!টুইস্টের পর টুইস্ট,একদম জমে ক্ষীর।এর পরের পার্টের জন্য আপনার আগ্রহ ১০০% বাড়িয়ে দেবে এই বই নিঃসন্দেহে।

যুক্তি থাকবে না এটা মেনেই নিয়েছিলাম। কিন্তু তাই বলে বিড়ালের মিয়াও মিয়াও থেকেই এত তথ্য পেয়ে যাবে!! বিড়ালেরও অমন অভিনয় করার ক্ষমতা আছে!?
আর Rocks এর সাথে GGU এর সম্পর্কটা আসলে কি সেটাও বুঝলাম না! ভেবেছিলাম অনুবাদে ভুল কি না? মূল বইটা ডাউনলোড করে দেখি সেখানেও একই জিনিস!!
এছাড়া আগের বইয়ের সাথে কন্টিনিউশান এররও চোখে পড়েছে। এটাকে কোন টার্ম দিয়ে বুঝানো যায় জানি না। মানে আগের বইয়ে তথ্য ছিল একরকম। এই বইয়ে সেটা ভিন্নভাবে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে।
এরকম টুকটাক বেশকিছু বিদঘুটে ব্যাপার স্যাপার আছে বইয়ে। তবে শেষের দিকে দারুণ কিছু টুইস্ট দিয়েছেন লেখক। সেটুকুর জন্যই ২ তারকা। আর না হলে স্রেফ সময় নষ্ট টাইপ বই মনে হয়েছে।

I read this book after enjoying book one (despite some nitpicks). I appreciated the style and sense of humor in Nick Pirog's writing, which is what inspired me to keep reading. (This book also has a higher star rating on GoodReads than the previous, so I was hopeful I would like this one better.)
Unfortunately, this book provided me with some new frustrations. The main character, Henry, has a cat named Lassie with whom he frequently has "conversations" like the following:
“Sorry, buddy. I have to do this one alone.”
Meow.
“Yes, it's going to be dangerous.”
Meow.
“Danger isn't your middle name.”
Meow.
“Because I didn't think to give you one.”
Meow.
“Pistol? I don't think so.”
Meow.
“No. I don't care if he is a triple threat. How 'bout Roger?”
Meow.
“Well, Lassie Timberlake Bins sounds stupid too.”
Meow.
“Well, I don't care what Murdock says.”
Meow.
“Fine, your middle name can be Danger.”
Meow.
These "conversations" are frequent and tend to be humorous, and I have always read them as Henry jokingly imagining-out-loud what his cat is thinking. (In other words, I do not have any reason to believe that Henry's cat is actually thinking and communicating these thoughts, nor do I think Henry has the special ability to communicate with and understand the speech of his cat.) However, I am no longer able to proceed with this line of thinking after reading the second book in this series…
The following excerpt comes from chapter 9:
Meow.
“Two men came in?”
Meow.
“Seriously?”
Lassie explains how he was sleeping last night
when the front door opened. He thought it was
Ingrid or my dad, but it wasn’t. It was two men
he didn’t recognize. He went up to them, but
they swatted him away. Lassie hid for the next
twenty minutes until the men left.
The way I read this, Henry is actually obtaining information from his cat that he could not possibly know otherwise. The series seems to have established that Henry does not absorb information while he sleeps, so the only interpretation that makes sense is that Henry can actually understand his cat's speech. In a series that already requires me to suspend disbelief, asking me to suddenly assume the main character has a weird superpower is going too far, in my opinion.
Aside from this nonsensical plot point, the rest of the story was entertaining enough. Each story in this series is relatively short, so it's not a huge investment.
I got this whole series of books as a bundle, so it would feel like a waste not to read the remaining three stories, but I simply have to ask: "Why, Nick Pirog?"
This story definitely could have unfolded very similarly without requiring Henry to communicate with his cat, so I can't imagine why the author made this odd and unnecessary choice.
I read this book after enjoying book one (despite some nitpicks). I appreciated the style and sense of humor in Nick Pirog's writing, which is what inspired me to keep reading. (This book also has a higher star rating on GoodReads than the previous, so I was hopeful I would like this one better.)
Unfortunately, this book provided me with some new frustrations. The main character, Henry, has a cat named Lassie with whom he frequently has "conversations" like the following:
“Sorry, buddy. I have to do this one alone.”
Meow.
“Yes, it's going to be dangerous.”
Meow.
“Danger isn't your middle name.”
Meow.
“Because I didn't think to give you one.”
Meow.
“Pistol? I don't think so.”
Meow.
“No. I don't care if he is a triple threat. How 'bout Roger?”
Meow.
“Well, Lassie Timberlake Bins sounds stupid too.”
Meow.
“Well, I don't care what Murdock says.”
Meow.
“Fine, your middle name can be Danger.”
Meow.
These "conversations" are frequent and tend to be humorous, and I have always read them as Henry jokingly imagining-out-loud what his cat is thinking. (In other words, I do not have any reason to believe that Henry's cat is actually thinking and communicating these thoughts, nor do I think Henry has the special ability to communicate with and understand the speech of his cat.) However, I am no longer able to proceed with this line of thinking after reading the second book in this series…
The following excerpt comes from chapter 9:
Meow.
“Two men came in?”
Meow.
“Seriously?”
Lassie explains how he was sleeping last night
when the front door opened. He thought it was
Ingrid or my dad, but it wasn’t. It was two men
he didn’t recognize. He went up to them, but
they swatted him away. Lassie hid for the next
twenty minutes until the men left.

Crazy, ridiculous, fun read. The best part? That Henry speaks fluent Cat. His conversations with Lassie, while completely requiring a very large suspension bridge of disbelief, kinda, sorta ring true. As anyone owned by a feline knows. The part where we (and Henry) found out that the apartment had been bugged felt a little too far past believable knowing what we know about the comings and goings of Henry's family and friends. And the revelation about his mother was not so shocking....well the revelation about whether she's still breathing oxygen wasn't. I'll forgive all that though because the rest was fun. Now on to book 3.

মোটামুটি...........................
ভাল লাগছে বইটার সাইজের জন্য, এক বসায় আরামসে শেষ করে দেওয়া যায়। আর গল্পের প্লট সাজানো টা ভাল লাগছে, কারন নায়ক তো এখানে আমার আপনার মত সাধারণ মানুষ না :) ।ল্যাসির সাথে মারডকের বন্ধুত্ব টা উপভোগ্য
তবে শেষ টা বড্ড তাড়াহুড়ো করে হয়ে গেছে, আর শেষ এ এসে এত্ত এত্ত টুইস্ট। সব ফুল যেমন গোলাপ হয় না তেমনি কিছু কিছু টুইস্ট আজাইড়া লাগছে। আর বিড়ালের সাথে আপন মনে কথা বলা টা ঠিক আছে কিন্তু তাই বলে বাসায় আড়ি পাতার যন্ত্র লাগানো আছে এটা বিড়ালের বলে দেওয়া টা একটু বাড়াবাড়ি লেগেছে।
প্রথম দুই কিস্তিতে যেভাবে প্লট সাজানো হয়েছে তাতে পরবর্তী কিস্তি ত্রয় আকর্ষণীয় হবে এটা আশা করাই যায়।

This is a very short story (106 pages) about Henry Bins. Henry has a sleeping disorder...he is awake only one hour out of 24, so he has learned how to make the seconds count. In this book, he goes looking for his mother, who has been missing for thirty years. A detective firm has finally located her...trouble is, she has just died. Or did she? The second I have read in the series, and I have the third downloaded.

থ্রি এ এম বইয়ের দ্বিতীয় পার্ট 'থ্রি টেন এ এম'। প্রথম খণ্ডের মতোন এই খণ্ডটাও দারুণ ছিল। প্রতি পাতায় এরপরে কি হবে, এরপরে কি হবে, সে চিন্তায় বিভোর ছিলাম। হেনরি বিনস কি তার মাকে খুঁজে পায়? তার মা কি গুপ্তচর নাকি সন্ত্রাসী দলের কেউ? ২৪ঘণ্টার মধ্যে এক ঘণ্টা সে জাগ্রত থাকে, এই এক ঘণ্টায় কি সে এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর পাবে?
