At least as far as Kiria's concerned. Ever since Firian's Tanyuin troops ravaged the beautiful city of Brithnem, she's been on the run, struggling with her new role as leader of a ragtag band, and tumultuous emotions over her former love. Will her resistance be enough to take back the Kingdom?
Firian has a target on his back too. The man he trusted as his mentor now plays a deadly game with all their lives. Guilt-ridden and stripped of everything he cares about, Firian fears that even stopping Master Belik won't be enough to atone for his violent sins. But, as one of the most dangerous people in the world, he has to try.
Kingdoms are burning. For the ones they love, Firian and Kiria will give everything to make things right, even if it costs them their lives.
Brace yourself for a jaw-dropping finale full of twists and action.
Be brave. Be dangerous. It's time to fight for the future.
Move over Katniss, Kiria is back! Kingdoms on Fire, by Carly Stevens, is book three in the Tanyuin Academy series and it will leave you breathless.
Ever since Firian’s Tanyuin troops ravaged the beautiful city of Brithnem, Kiria has been on the run, struggling with her new role as leader of a ragtag band and filled with tumultuous emotions over her traitorous former love.
Ms. Stevens writes images onto pages. It takes a master to create a new world, new countries, languages and customs in a manner that feels both familiar and original. Then to add magical elements, characters you love and a villain you hate — Kingdoms on Fire has it all.
And those covers!!!! I am a cover snob. The best of books can be ruined by the wrong artwork. All three of the Tanyuin covers are downright gorgeous!
Kingdoms on Fire is full of twists and turns and always the possibility of treachery. Kiria, Firian, and therefore the reader never knows who to fully trust. The pace is both action packed and contains a slow burn of tension — a combination that kept me up late at night reading. As soon as I turned the final satisfying page I was ready for another novel by Carly Stevens.
I really enjoyed this trilogy however this last book was too long. At 86 chapters and 18 hours it was a slog! I think 10 to 20 chapters could be cut out by cutting out unnecessary dream sequences and picking up the pace. I heard independently published authors sometimes don’t pay to get their books edited. Perhaps that was the case here?
The concept of the ‘unreal’ and the tantrum academy is great though and lots of what you expect from your standard fantasy tropes.
The audiobook narrator Hake Ruddle had a lovely voice and did a great job.
Loved this conclusion! The way everything comes together was wonderful. The love of the characters grew, even when you loved ones who did the wrong thing.
Overall, this series is a great story. I truly enjoy the authors writing style.
