In the Shadow of the Rock

Rate this book
Geoffrey Thomas has lived a memorable life. But despite his achievements, he tells his story as a man comfortably living in the shadow of something and Someone greater. Geoff shares his upbringing in Wales, his ministerial training in the United States, and his family life and ministry that stretched over fifty years at Alfred Place Baptist Church in Aberystwyth. Throughout the book, the winsome Welshman introduces us to a host of leaders he has befriended over the years, giving a valuable perspective on the transatlantic evangelical scene. And most of all, you will read of Geoff’s love for the Rock of his salvation.

This is a warmly written romantic rambling of a retired reformed ministry. And I loved it.
If you know Geoff or have benefitted from his preaching, you’ll enjoy this book.
Heart warming and honest.
His critique of his own preaching is worth the price of the book.
The weakness was that he had too many ‘mini biographies’ on other people (apart from Bobi Jones….that was well worth inclusion).
Thank you for your honesty and faithfully ministry.

I was under Geoff’s ministry for four years in Alfred Place at the end of his time there and was greatly blessed by the depth and warmth of his preaching. I chose Aberystwyth university precisely for that reason, to be under this godly man and I grew greatly. His warmth and humility come across fully throughout this autobiography and it made me miss both him and Alfred Place very much.
