First, his mission for the fire goddess ended up with him—a hellhound who’d never actually been to hell—being sent precisely there. Worse, he found himself stuck in the strange hellscape with Ozias, a guy who’s a) hotter than the fire of both suns in the hell-realm, b) really, really likable, despite his arrogance, and c) oh yeah, the actual prince of hell.
Their connection comes in handy, though, when a demon escapes into the human realm and Ozias is sent to track it down. With magic fluctuating wildly around them, the hellhound pack is run ragged trying to keep the supernatural world a secret from the humans… especially since Achim is just a wee bit distracted keeping his mind and hands off the gorgeous-but-cocky prince.
But when the strange forces wreaking havoc on the human realm attempt to drive Achim and Ozias apart… well, that’s when things get really messed up. Because if they think they're gonna keep a hellhound from the guy who might just be his mate…
Macy Blake believes in unicorns and fairies, in moonbeams and stardust, and that happily ever after comes in all colors of the rainbow. When she’s not busy at the day job, she loses herself in paranormal romance, living vicariously through her favorite sexy fictional heroes. These days you can often find her pounding away at the keyboard, trying to capture the magic of her own worlds.
*Sigh.* I think I messed this one up by first reading Macy's free Hellhounds story, "Hell Freezes Over", back in January.
That short, 60'ish page story was essentially the first large part of this book, which included Achim meeting Ozias, the prince of hell, them surviving several challenges, then falling in love.
In other words, that initial short story already contained nearly *ALL* of the parts of M/M romances that really excite and engage me.
The newer parts included in the book were largely the post-ILY dramas, which are *not* my favorite things about M/M stories, so since I'd already read "the good parts", I didn't really find those relationship and life "drama" parts overly satisfying.
Even though this book didn't contain tons of feels for me, I suspect that for most readers (and possibly even myself) would find this book to be a more satisfying 4-star'ish read if they hadn't read the "Hell Freezes Over" short beforehand.
Reading the short already, then starting the full book, though, my experience hovered more around 3.25 stars.

It probably would have helped if I reread some of this series before jumping in to this one since there are SO MANY CHARACTERS in this world it’s unreal! Haha
But overall a good addition to the Chosen One universe haha. This was very hot and heavy right out of the gate, but Ozias’s obliviousness to the human world was hilarious haha.
I am most excited for Ollie’s book… sooo hope that comes out soon haha
Macy Blake's Chosen Universe is one of my favourite worlds to get lost in.
Achim finally gets his story here and oh boy is it a cracker!
Not only does our Hellhound find himself actually in Hell, he also manages to find his mate.
Of course, it's not as simple as that and the journey to get Achim and Ozias, Prince of Hell and son of Hecate herself, Goddess of Hell, is fraught with danger.
All the rest of the gang are here and we also get to see Meshaq and Drew for a short guest appearance.
It's as action packed as you'd expect from this series, as funny as the rest and steaming hot.
More is revealed about what's been happening with the magic in the human realm on particular, and we get a sneak peek at the start of the next interconnected series.
I know that there are people who are hesitant to jump into the chosen one universe but I'm here to say that the waters fine, dive right in.
So this hellhound story is about Achim and his mate, the prince of hell, Ozias. There was some sort of interference with the goddess' magic arm gps/signal and Achim ended up in Hell.
Side note, I think the grandmother goddess made this happen. Or Hecate.
Anyways, the two instantly hit it off but Achim was sent back home and they were separated for months and Achim suffered greatly.
Ozias eventually makes his way back to earth and they get together. Things happen, cause chosen one, and people in the next series are introduced.
There's a massive demon fight, bad things happen, we find out about familiars, and voila, they are finally together.
As always, Michael Dean did a great job and I enjoyed reading this immensely.

My re-read of this did not dim my love for it. Though reading the other books in the proper order made this make so much more sense. I now understand so much more.
I have read every book in this world and this was my favorite. I loved the Prince and his Familiar so much. It was cute that they didn't realize that they were mates.
I waited waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too long to write this review so believe me, it won't be much.
I just know that from the beginning when I felt I had read this before, and then discovered with the help of a friend I had, at least the beginning, it just didn’t work for me. (The beginning of this story was released as a teaser at the beginning of the year and then deleted by Goodreads) The main thing I recall though is the lack of conversation between Achim and Ozias. I wasn’t a fan of the whole ‘it won’t work anyway’ feelings going on because they wouldn’t have a conversation.
I guess the book just had a different vibe and it missed the mark for me.
I’m a huge fan of this Universe so this is a HUGE B-U-M-M-E-R.
Great adventure, amazing action scenes, it was exciting, loved the romance and the hot moments, it was interesting to discover more of the Chosen World, really good! Congratulations to Macy Blake!!!
I also have this book on Audible, good job from Michael Dean, great acting, I would swap the main characters’ voices, for what I’ve read (and listened), based on their descriptions, but it is just for my amusement. The perfomance was incredible!!!
Not sure why but this just didn't work as well for me as the rest of the series. Something was missing for me. It did have some good moments, especially with Robin's story and Nick is always a bright spot. Still, I like this world and am looking forward to the new series.
Going into the book I nearly moved it into my DNF shelf. The complete scene in Hell did nothing for me and I don't believe that was because I still didn't continue The Chosen One. For me it was a silly scene and the interaction between Ozias and Achim bordered on annoying and while I was able to ignore my usual uneasiness about the inclusion of goddesses and gods, I couldn't do that anymore with all the talk about the godly genealogy. I also missed a lot of information about the hellish realm – but that's probably really because I stopped reading the main series.
As usual for me and this world that changed as soon as as kids got involved. This time it was Ryan and Robin who soothed my frowning over the start of the story. Afterwards I could enjoy Ozias' imperiousness turning into cockiness while his connection with Achim is getting stronger and he discovers the joy of pizza and showers and latest when he showed his worth during the demon hunt and the final fight I was glad I resisted the urge to DNF.
So maybe it's time to call defeat and continue The Chosen One, now that it seems it's more than a harem erotica in a fantasy setting.
Ozias and Achim are a sweet couple and in slightly different circumstances than others from the books. Being not only different species but from different realms and entirely different knowledge of what has happened in the past few years, their initial encounter is filled as much with attraction and lust as it is with confusion and dismay. As Ozias learns of what has happened with the magic on Earth, Achim learns more of the gods and why has happened outside their realm. Through it all the two build a relationship, all while resolutely thinking they can't be mates because of their different homes and statuses. There are some communication issues and some surprising moments of luck of clarity, but it was mostly a good flowing read that progressed events from the previous books.
3.5 Stars. This was the first book I read by this author. I plan to read more. Any recommendations for your favorite M/M books by this author? Especially ones with jealous scenes. No cheating.
Sometimes, you just have to marvel over the minds that can think up such an elaborate world as this one.
I read the original short story, so the first few chapters were a little long to get through, but if you haven't read the novella, you'll be fine.
We see a lot of progress in the world in this installment of the series, and I had to keep some things straight in my head to make sure I understood it all correctly. However, the progression was interesting and makes sense for the overall story.
Ozias and Achim didn't get a ton of page-time as just a couple, as a lot happens all the time, but still enough for me to get to know them and to like what Ozias brings to the world.
Especially his interactions with Walt and Shelly's kid Ryan made my day. Macy Blake writes some of my alltime favorite book-kids and Ryan is definitely not an exception. Loved him, hope we see more of him.
After Nick’s story I didn’t think the next one would be as strong with the plot line. Then I read the blurb and stayed up late getting past half. Achim gets a demon prince. Ozias was my favourite and almost as bad as Nick in his determination. I liked how he went after what he wanted, but was willing to give it up for his mother. More spoilers if not read in order. I’m looking forward to the new series. I hope these two make a reappearance.

My favorite part of these books—not counting the world-building and magic as those are a given—has to be pack and family. From the kids to the adults, smiley and grumpy, I love them all and the incredible bonds they’ve formed. The ways they love, care for and protect each other; there aren’t enough words to describe the level of feelings and joy they bring to my heart and life. “Magic is a funny thing.” I fell in love with Achim and Ozias in Hell Freezes Over and am more in love with them now. It’s no wonder hellhounds are champions and Achim and Ozias completely rule my heart. So many questions answered, so many amazing revelations and above all, the unconditional, irrefutable love that shines from this book and series. I bow down to Macy Blake her paranormal prowess.
A perfect mix of romance, humor and adventure. My favorite of all Hellhound Champions books. I loved the romance and the adventure/mystery plot. Ozias, the Prince of Hell, is hilarious and him getting to know human realm was a treat. He is powerful but also kind and funny. And I equally loved Achim, his beast, who is strong and loyal. The chemistry was there from the first page. Definitely one of my favorite couples from this universe. It was nice to see Nick and the kids but their presence was not overwhelming. The book is well balanced and well written with some . Absolutely recommended.
Okay I’m totally lost. I read this collection of stories in order, but it still felt like there were things happening behind the scenes. I felt like I was missing half the stories.
This couple didn’t do much for me. I hate lust turned to love relationships. Achim wasn’t flushed out as a character in the previous books so I didn’t feel anything for him and he felt like a blank character cut out. Ozias had more personality, but they were hyper obsessed with each other and it kind of sucked the personality out of both of them.
So far the Hellhound books have been my MOST favorite spinoff (not really spinoff) series in this universe. We met them all in the Chosen One world. We learn more about them and their personalities in the Hellhound series. All I have to say to the author is KEEP 'EM COMING. I have read this series several times already and am sure I will continue to do so in the future.
Achim has always seemed a little sweet, well, sweet for a hellhound. Ozias caused me to snicker so many times with his attitude but then again, Prince of Hell. As these two work together, we find out a little more of what's going on in this world and it is beyond wild. You will adore Achim and Ozias.
I absolutely love this series! Macy Blake has created a wonderful series that I would love to be part of! It’s not often we hear of other realms, and this one introduces us to the Hell realm. Absolutely amazing characters and the fight scenes are incredible. Highly recommended
I’ve been waiting for this book since I read their first meeting months ago.
I wish I had a little more relationship between the two main characters, this book was definitely conflict driven, so their interactions as a couple were minimal. There were two characters that I simply do not remember reading about in other books, although it sounds like perhaps they were mentioned ? I don’t know. Bottom line is - we definitely will get more books, because yeah, 4 new champions at the end there, we must know who they are.
Pre-Release: After reading what was the teaser novella or first draft for Achim and Ozias (Hell Freezes Over), I am interested where Ms. Blake intends for her readers to adventure next in the Chosen One Universe now that we are heading back to the hellhounds. I was in eager anticipation!
Note: I have not delved deep into the Chosen Ones series. Only Hellhound Champions and Magical Mates.
Review: TBC - I can't get my thoughts together yet, fully. It was amusing, enjoyable--definitely not a standalone--and very very fluffy. If you like growly meets princely, in a magically designed fated pair, this will hit all the right spots.
There are certain books and series where the world building is really good and then you have every now and again a series that comes along and just BOOM. The world is so complex and full of Intricate details you wish you were able to visit it. Macy’s Chosen universe is this wholeheartedly. With each new book you are taken on such a rollercoaster of emotions(there was tears in the reading of this book) adventures and explorations you can’t help but inhale the book. The plots are unique and keep you guessing, never knowing where the story arch is going to to be directed.
In Hell breaks Loose, we start to see how much the previous events in the series are about to affect the world with a visit from the Prince of Hell. As is Macy’s way we are left with loads of questions and thoughts on how things can go from here.
What I loved about this book:
The continued bond seen through he Hellhound pack, the Smith and Jerrick packs. The love and care so easily shown between mates even when they are completely different people. Unique characters whether that’s Achims lovable, strong and loyal self or Ozias’ confident, arrogant, protective and compassionate self.
As Achim and Ozias get their HEA we are left with questions unanswered and a new direction for the Chosen world. I can not wait for more. This whole series I’ve read multiple times and this new edition has just added to that awesomeness.
This book falls directly in the middle of the chosen one Universe. You must read all the books in order to get the full story.
This book follows one of our Hellhound Champions into the frozen hellscape where he finds a prince. There chemistry is off the charts but duty calls!
This story gives us some bread crumbs about the chosen one Universe but I want the whole piece of bread. Everything is vague and annoying. Like old people talking around a topic so the young people only get a quarter of the story. I know this author is spreading this tale over multiple series but my patience grows thin.
Overall, this was a good addition to the series and any chosen one fans need to read this one ASAP!
The last of the Hellhounds Champions books is a fast paced, fun read. Ozias, Prince of Hell has got to be one of Blake's most arrogant, cocky heroes. And Achim is just the hellhound to challenge that attitude. As usual, they don't realize that they're mates. Until it's almost too late. The Chosen One's defeat of his brother has not settled the magic in the realms. It seems to be getting worse. And Achim and Ozias are just the pair to answer the Goddesses call. Some old faces drop by, Shaq and Drew, Gus-Gus. Walter and Shelly's adopted son, Ryan, is a treat. I really enjoyed the hellhound books and hated to read the last. And where are Callie and Vice's books? Can't wait for the next series. Which will apparently be able the realm's champions.
Never thought I would rate a Macy Blake book so low... She was the few authors that gave her books a good balance between story and romance, not happening here, it took a while for me to finish when I usually finish her books very quickly.
I read Hell Freezes Over first. It was a nice read, 3 stars. What I didn't know though, was that it's basically the first chapters of this book, so no need to read it (which I didn't know, so I basically read all those chapters twice). I liked how the events of the Chosen One plot line impacted the realms and the magic. I love it when long series like this don't struggle for new content (which can be tedious), but actually follow the logical reactions from the first main plot line. Actions actually have consequences in this series (mostly), and the god's actions had big consequences! The plot itself was nice, I quite liked it. Can't decide between three and four stars, though...
Achim and Ozias have such a tumultous relationship. But when they get together again, they are really magical. I can't wait til the next one to see what happens.
First off, I have to say if any of you have not read this series, be shamed. Lol Just kidding. But truly you should. It’s one of those that has just pretty much everything you need in a book. Hot men, action, magic, evil, goodness, and everything in between. And this one has some mystery to it as some of the others have, so it’s made it a little more intriguing as some new people have made themselves known as well. Also, if you haven’t read this series, please be aware it intertwines with the other series called The Chosen One, and one or two of these books are in an order with those before these. So make sure you look up the order. If you’re like me, you will NOT be disappointed. If you have read this series up to this point, this book just takes the cake. I was waiting for Achim’s story and it is definitely a doozy. Achim, in a lot of ways, is the more quiet of the bunch. And that’s not saying much, considering this crew lol. But he’s also the one that is a jump first, ask questions later kind of guy. So when his sigil from the Goddess is actually burning him, which it never does, he knows something is very, very wrong and jumps through a portal that is not his color. It’s no longer a flame of red, it is solid icy blue. When he comes out the other end, he is not prepared for who and what he finds. I wasn’t either to be honest, but in this series, you never know what you’re going to find. And Achim found something he never thought he would. But I’ll let you read to find out what. Because it will blow your mind. But one thing that Achim has on his side, is when he does finally get back to the Earth realm, having the Prince of Hell, yes the actual Prince, it comes in handy as the title says, all hell breaks loose. Even Ozias, the Prince of Hell, is not ready for what he’s about to encounter and how it’s going to affect him. He is the Prince of Hell, after all, so what can defeat him. But what I love about this story, is even though they just met, and don’t even really know each other (except they are good in the bedroom kind of thing), they instinctively know they need each other in order to survive and help others survive. They know something isn’t right and they know they will do anything, including dying, in order to keep the other and others safe. Especially when Ozias sees some of the things that have actually been happening. You would think with him being who he is, he would be cocky and wouldn’t care for anyone else. You know that kind of thing. And don’t get me wrong, Ozias is as cocky as they come. But underneath that ice, sees when wrong is wrong, and has a heart for what has been happening under his nose. Especially when he finds out who has been the one to do it and all those involved and haven’t stopped a thing. And I love that. I love seeing something that is supposed to be considered evil, bowed by two little beings. And he and Achim, it’s amazing the bond they have right off the bat. It makes for an interesting story, especially when they find out the truth of themselves after an incident. I have loved this series from the get go. I truly have. I love paranormal books anyway, and this series has imprinted why I love them so much. The author has a way of weaving these worlds that make you feel like you are living the story itself. The characters are so flawed but you can’t help but love each and every perfection or flaw they have. Because it makes them who they are. Be it a warrior, a child or a champion, they all have their place in these stories and I can’t imagine not one of them being a part of it. I love being a part of this journey. I hope there are more stories to come in these series.
Of the Hellhound Champions series, Hell Breaks Loose (Hellhound Champions, #4) turns out to be my very favorite. It’s also the last of this series, setting up what I expect to be the next stage in this multi series universe, the Familiar Fated Mates series. Or whatever the author will title it.
Hell Breaks Loose takes place after Solomon has become the Alpha of the Hellhounds with Cody as the alpha mate. The Chosen One arc has been resolved with Meshaq and Drew set to a new path as Gods.
Achim’s life is a frazzled one for a Hellhound. Instead of things setting down after the Chosen One and his brother battled it out, with the Chosen One winning, the magic has gotten more unstable. More beings have come through into the human realm, keeping Hellhounds busy 24/7 . Achim and the rest of his pack are exhausted. And their situation is getting worse.
Ozias, the Prince of Hell, isn’t having a good day. Horrible in fact. His magic isn’t working and he’s being chased by his mother’s hellhounds. When a human appears before him . In Hell!
Achim goes through a portal but the colors all wrong. Not the usual red. And ends up where he lasts expects to.
This is a marvelous romance and engaging story. The characters are so amazing and have such great personalities. Watching them navigate the intricacies of their developing relationship while handling the widening magical chaos in the human realm , which is also Ozias’ first time there? It’s so deeply wonderful that you can’t turn away from it.
It’s funny, sad, horrifying, sexy , and all kinds of romantic.
This story brings us back into Nick’s family and all the kids he and his mate rescued. We see Solomon and Cody. We also see another extraordinary couple with huge news to impact the entire universe.
It’s quite the story.
I read the middle novels as part of the Chosen Ones collection. It works but I’m glad I read this here. I’m ready for whatever Blake has next for us and this amazing collection of characters.
I’m recommending you read them all to understand how they all fit together and the events and relationships as they form.
