New name, new clothes, new school, new friends, new Katie is Moving On—as a girl! But when Katie thinks all her problems are behind her, a face from the past brings all her anxieties back.
Katie is now at a school where she will stay during the week and return home opn the weekends. One interesting thing that got me right off is the reference to a 'large' classroom of 20 desks. In the public schools I've taught in that would be a tiny classroom. I remember one class I taught had 50 students signed up and I didn't have anywhere near enough desks.
One of Katie's teachers is the guy that made her run away from home and that causes major trouble later in the story.
One quote I really liked is 'It's not your body that's important but what is in your head.'
The situation gets critically bad for Katie, bad enough that it could cost her her life.
One thing to keep in mind; what happens in this book (and the one before) can get to be very, very upsetting. The two books I consider some of the most emotionally-upsetting books I have ever read. That does not make them bad at all, but it does mean reading them can get upsetting enough that you may need to stop for a while and then go back to the story.
Susan Brown has written a book that if it had been around when I was a child would have been an inspiration. I too used to cross dress and always felt that I was in the wrong body and still do. Thank you Susan.
Very good story with a bittersweet ending that I did not expect. Could be modified an made into a movie. No more from me so you need to read the book to know the ending.
