A fire hydrant catches fire. Thunder beats against a clear sky. A man morphs into a pig. Laguna Beach has been witnessing some strange events, as if sorcery is at work though not quite working well. If only the Laguna Wiccans weren’t so inept. Their spells conjure more mayhem than magic. Yet they will not give up, no matter how odd the incantations, such as this love spell chanted while holding a goat:
Fierce of temper, beard of man, Chase away a Peter Pan!
The chimera of successful witchery — which naturally begins with wording spells appropriately — hangs just beyond their grasp. Yet the members staunchly ignore rumors that they’re the laughingstock of other covens. Devlin, Fiona, Arabella, Esther and the others have one thing going for them: They love the Craft and the hope it brings to those who feel powerless. Indeed, they can’t quit when so many of them suffer wounded hearts and broken spirits. And they especially can't quit when their pals need help too.
Fiona's friend, Claire Cimmerian, is a nonbeliever whose descent down this path of mystical misadventures begins the night she discovers her husband has moved out. Half the closet is empty. Half the medicine cabinet. He’s even taken half the canned goods from the pantry. She spends the next two weeks snuffling into the darkness of the bedroom they once shared. Intervention is clearly needed, and Fiona steps in to draw her friend out. It's only a house party. What could go wrong?
