The world is in peril and fate needs a hero to save it. Sometimes all fate gets is a bunny. She is a dungeon creature bound by the rules of the dungeon. Her job is to do bunny things, like eat and hop, and eventually fall prey to larger creatures. A bunny need do nothing more. However, she cannot help herself. Everyday as adventurers pass through the cave that she calls home, she sees them wielding strange and fascinating magic but more importantly hears them talking. Their words are wonderful, and she learns as many as she can while trying to ignore the epic tragedy of her life. She is just a bunny, and there is no way that a bunny could ever be like an adventurer, no matter how many words she knows.

This story is inspired by the Dungeon Core and the litRPG/gameLit genres.

I admit I read this based on absolutely nothing more than a perverse need to see it happen. I mean. Come on. A LitRPG from the PoV of a bunny mob in a dungeon. Seriously. With level-ups and becoming powerful included in the package.

WHO WOULDN'T LOVE TO SEE THIS???

Okay. Maybe this is a fringe thing. But who cares. The whole idea is FUNNY.

But in practice?

Well, it's slow starting because our MC is an actual BUNNY. There was a bunch of hurdles just trying to learn language even as the cute little critter tried to learn a fireball spell. So perhaps there weren't as many normal LitRPG goodies as I would have liked. A little bit near the end, maybe, and the premise is still good, especially with the embued magic stuff that I won't spoil, but overall there's a lag, a mismatch -- no matter how much I WANT to like this.

Well, never mind! It seems to be a duology so what I'm looking for might be in the second half!

I love the premise and I hope to read more

This is a fun concept. The idea of the most innocuous creature becoming a hero is always a cool story. This book is SLOOOW though. Slow to start, slow to go anywhere, and just when the story starts getting interesting it ends. I had to push through this book but I am glad I did. I want to read more about Tisk and her adventures.

As A Rabbit Owner

Great book detailing the life of an average rabbit. I couldn't set the book down, so I am thankful it was short.
This was a great first book. It introduced the world and its rules in some of the best ways I have seen in a dungeon core book. It was very natural and didn't feel like the normal exposition dump a lot of authors do in this genre. The main character was very relatable in in a weird way. While there are no supporting characters developed, I have high hopes for this author and series.
After consulting with my own version of Tisk, we agree it is a 5/5 book.

I did not expect to enjoy reading so much!

Ok, honestly I only started because of the cute title and the funny idea of a bunny monster from a dungeon being the MC. I thought for sure I might get a few laughs at most and put it down after a chapter or three. I certainly did not expect reading through my favorite showtime, dinner, and rob myself of a solid sleep schedule. It wasn't at all what I expected and I loved it.

The story follows a background dungeon creature, the kind used by a dungeon to occasionally feed the predators within between adventurers. But this one is unusually curious, and is fascinated with adventurers for their amazing words which she teaches herself.

The first few chapters had the funny but fascinating development of a nameless bunny trying to learn what words mean on her own without context. So, from her perspective the entire world is the dungeon and adventurers are another kind of dungeon creature but following different rules. Most frustratingly they can speak words and she cannot.

Things change when she hears some words that are probably world changing (although she has no idea about this herself at the time) and finally pieces together enough to cast magic and gets a name of her own.

That's about when the cute, silly, and fun little story became a real adventure as she starts to take on the aspects of an adventure herself... Only as a cute bunny.

This was a fantastic diamond in the rough to find and I'm so glad I chanced a read.

I'm going to be following this series throughout I think.

I appreciated the unique take of a bunny FMC and some minor casting of adventurers and dungeon core, but the pacing was a big problem for me. It took 50% of the book for the bunny to decide on a name for herself and a new magical ability and 70% until she had a conversation with another living being. Before that, it was all repetitive internal monologuing about what it meant to be a good dungeon bunny, how to learn magic on her own, and the English vocabulary. Other than some deduced magic, she did not explore outside her original cave and kept eavesdropping on adventurers and contemplating about all she knew over and over.

If the first 70% of the book had been condensed to a few chapters, it would have been a much more enjoyable read as the latter third finally had significant (and interesting) action. The ending was enough that I had seriously considered checking out the next book just to see how she evolved, but I have to give a (boring) 3-star rating to this first installment as it was a real drag to get through. Even giving bonus points as a rabbit owner for having a bunny as a main character wasn't enough to save it.

However, looking at reviews for the next book, I'll probably call the series here. It seems like there isn't any significant growth still, lots more internal monologuing, and another brutal cliffhanger.

This is just good.

The whole thing from a bunny perspective is absolutely brilliant. The narrative stays true to form throughout keeping your attention with a very simple story. I really hope I see more.

A different take on dungeon diving.

Tisk is a good bunny, she did those things that good bunnys did, she hopped and nibbled grass, and didn't eat the blue flowers. But, she saw adventures passing through the cavern and watched them do many strange things and some did magic! Could a Bunny, no matter how good do magic? Could she learn the words that called forth magic? Read on and find out!

Ever wondered what a bunny thinks about? Well, this author sure did, and being stuck as a dungeon-bound creature (not that it knew it was or why) only helped make this bunny question things more... Like, what is between 12 and 15? 12, 12 and 1, 12 and 2, then 15?
Why do the two-legged seem to like those small, round metals? Grass tastes much better.
What does a bunny have to do to have a conversation so it can get some answers?!

I loved this book and I never played D-and-D, or any other role playing game (only because I really had no friends, I always wanted to try). I fell in love with Tisk and really rooted for her. I can't wait for a sequel so I can follow more of her adventures and see if she gets stronger. I also want to see if she gets any more yummy blue flower petals

A very slow-burn story, but I enjoyed it greatly as a dungeon-core style book that did NOT use character statistics and such. Also I consider the manner in which the author advanced the MC's journey into sentience (?) to be well thought out.

Bun.

In the best tradition of Watership Down, the author brings the bunny into your heart. Well written and engaging, I hope to see more.

3.5 Obviously They Needed SomeBunny To Teach Them About Grass Stars

Dungeon Bunny is the first book in the Heroic Bunny Saga by Richard J. Hansen.

While I enjoyed conceptualizing with our bunny protagonist Tisk, it was invariably a slog to get through the endless curiosity of this little Fluff. The progression from the initial transition of this little bunny from sentient to more sapient thought is interesting. Merely allowing the reading to consider how advanced dungeon creatures progress, has a certain influence over the ingenuity of this authors story.

I'm most concerned about the future for this fluffy Tisk. Mainly, what concerns me lies in the one moment she has been forced to forget, and the promise she made to herself and those involved, while it transpired. I'm sure eating a golden thread of Fate has some serious repercussions, even for a simple good dungeon bunny.

My next concern is her safety. She is now essentially acquainted, and possibly traveling, with the only adventurer party that has previously shown a concentrated interest in her abnormality. Will they betray her trust later, when they inevitably discover she is that blue bunny? What about every other sapient being she encounters? She still has much to learn and understand about living outside of a dungeon. Most importantly, the worth of the money she possesses. I'm suspecting she will slip up and invite undue attention to her unique otherness by simply acting out of sync with the appearance she is trying to present.

And finally, what is to become of her connection to one Adrian Thresher? Will she re-encounter him? Save him from his demise after defeating the 'Dread Lord'? What change was he once meant to bring to the world?

I actually have no idea how to rate this book... Its my first LitRPG (is that what this is called...) book and I certainly did not go in expecting this story.... Almost the entire book was focusing on the growth of Tisk, at the VERY EARLY STAGE of her adventure..... at times I wasn't really sure where this story is going, given that its alllll her talking to her self and figuring out stuffs... It all makes sense.. I mean.. she's a bunny, and she lives in a dungeon w/ other bunnies and monsters, who the hell is she suppose to talk to anyway... But it just goes SO SLOWWWWW it felt like the growing is taking FOREVERRRR. I almost wanted to give up on the book. Fortunately it was short enough that I actually finished it... I think I wont continue to book two given the writing style. Great setting though, never have I thought about how Dungeon works and I'm actually curious to find out more about those Dungeons, but given the slowness... I think its best that I lay off book 2 for now... I need to read something with faster pace...

I really liked this book and the one that comes after, it is cute and funny at times but it is also deceptively deep.
It has a fascinating magic system that depends on words and concepts and because of that leads to thinking about some fundamental things that we usually take for granted. It is not the most fast paced litrpg book I have ever read but is one of the most enjoyable ones.
In Conclusion it is a great book, you should read it, and learn to be a good bunny otherwise your house will be destroyed and everyone you know will die. I for one can’t wait for the 3rd book in the series.

The Heroic Bunny Saga: 1
This is the story of Tisk, a bunny spawned by a dungeon, who slowly gains sentience by being too curious, fascinated by the adventurers venturing into her home. The first third of the book is a bit of a slog to get through, as Tisk's thought processes are very simple, and there's a lot of simple sentences and repetition. Unfortunately, though Tisk manages to teach herself a few magic spells after listening to various adventurers passing through, she is still only a bunny, swept away by events. Story ends on something of a cliffhanger.

Unlike any other dungeon type book I've ever read

So I was bored and decided to pick this up since...well its about a Bunny I mean I figured it'd be a comedy but when I started reading...I loved it, the way the author has the MC talking is great and Tbh I had thought it'd be a pretty generic dungeon type book. But now I just can't wait for the next one, though throughout it I couldn't help but think"this has gotta be hard to do" with how the author did the MC's thoughts

Slow start but gets fun

I almost quit. The story dragged at first. The bunny would just ramble on with internal monologue without really saying anything new. I found myself skimming and realizing I wasn’t missing anything.

Gets good after about the 30% mark. I really enjoyed the magic learning process and how the bunny chose things to learn and develop that would make sense for a bunny. Excited with how it ended and curios to see what direction the author takes with book 2!

The dungeon bunny is smart for a bunny, but lacks much understanding of the world. She observes adventurers, learns words, eats grass and flower petals, and advances farther than any prey animal ought. It's fun figuring out what the bunny is observing from her limited understanding. That adventurer with a metal carapace? Oh, it's a knight in armor.

The last 20-25% gets a little hard to follow, with a lot of action scenes. I wish it had stayed a story of exploration.

Tisk is a very good bunny!

Squee! I love Tisk the very good bunny. Ok, now that I got that out of the way. It is a very cute story about a bunny learning to “Mop”. Don’t worry if you read the book that sentence will make sense ;) Perfect way to end the story no cliffhanger but I really want next book.

A little small dungeon bunny with a little small bunny mind starts to learn about her world and how different she is.
Cute but very slow and a bit repetitive. Then, just as the action picks up, the book ends.
It was a different perspective on a dungeon story and didn't involve any stats or levelling up. It will be interesting to see where things go in the sequel.

Great story and lots of nice philosophy.

Tisk the Good Bunny's first story was very entertaining, I'll look forward to reading about her further adventures. This book was also the best primer on epistemology, ontology and ethics I've read, definately up there with The Zen of Motorcycle Maintenance as a surprise! philosophy! book.

I loooove the setup for this book. The main character is all kinds of adorable, the magic system is wonderful, and the world is engaging. I always enjoy when an author doesn't just make another stock human character, but a regular, non-anthropomorphic bunny, is very much a new one. I do feel bad for the boy who's destiny she's taken the last fragments of. I hope she runs into him later.

Cute and fun story. As a rabbit owner, I love exploring books where rabbits/bunnies are the central characters. The cute title and description certainly caught my attention. Told from the POV of the bunny as she grows in awareness and learns about the world around her. I loved how the author stayed true to bunny behavior and preferences while building this story and revealing the magic.

Actual bunny > bunny girl

While I enjoy some anthropomorphic animal hero(ine)s, actual critters awakening to consciousness are more fun, and this story does a good job of proving my point.

An interesting take on an underpowered npc

The world as attempted to be understood through the eyes of a lowest level dungeon npc.

Curious to see where it goes as the adventurers are of less morale quality.

Refreshing perspective

I loved this first book, read it in 3 hours. The character's self discovery felt genuine and realistic, and the direction at the end keeps the pace at a high tempo for book two. I'm excited to see what the main character does!

At first, I was drawn in by such an interesting plot. I knew it would be a slow burn but I was so eager to see how it progressed and I was not disappointed. I started reading the second book right away!

A very good book if very non traditional and not what one expects from this type of title, especially. Glad I took a chance on it however.

From bunny eyes

What an interesting read. I never thought I would be enthralled by the thoughts of a bunny. Yet here I am, excited for book 2.
