You, I, and all of us are now running, or let me say we all are dependent on AI. Everything around us is surrounded by digital things and artificial intelligence, we wake u,p and first, we find our phone instead of our parent's feet and this is how our whole days pass by. Starting from AI to ending till AI.
This book is a collection of some amazing and very well-researched essays that represent how our life is cocooned in AI. The author has not only penned down the dependency on AI but the book is mostly about how our whole life is affected by AI. The book focuses on socioeconomic impact, and it influences many sectors.
Have you seen TV ads of whitehat and similar apps where they are focusing students to start their coding journey? This is how we are building a world only of AI. This book has identified this problem and solutions and it also contains information by Cambridge Analytica case.
I will recommend this book to everyone especially to engineers who face difficulty in comprehending the projects and AI.
The World as a neural network is an educational book on how AI is getting integrated into our socioeconomic systems and what problems it pose or rather what pre-existing problems it brings to the fore.
Alexa and Siri are now household names, AI has already become a part of or influenced many sectors. The aim of the book is to at least start a conversation about AI which is a phenomenon transforming global order.
The book doesn't delve into the technological aspects of AI rather it talks about the socioeconomic impact of it. It contains case studies like the Cambridge Analytica case and brings forth how AI can be misused to achieve things which can be a threat to a harmonious and just social order.
The book is very insightful and definitely educational on the subject it deals with. It also explains EU's data privacy law and how's it different. The tone of the book is more cautionary than optimistic. So, it doesn't provide a balanced view but makes a case of bringing out the limitations and the threats of a powerful technology. However, it's a good read for anyone who wants to educate themselves on the subject.
The title of the book says it all and so as the tagline. The tagline of the book is “The Story Of AI And Our Future”. I will brown summarise the concept of the book. The book started with the introduction chapter, introduction to the digital world and artificial intelligence (AI). Author has also covered topics such as social media. China’s Social Credit model topic was something new and interesting for me. This book is not of my subject so author has introduced me to so many new topics and concepts. Author has also mentioned political correlation in the topic “Automation and US Politics”. The subject is vast so I am unable to sum it up in limited words. I liked the concept as in today’s world, it is important to know for all of us about AI as it touches everyone of our lives. Author has included all the important topics and information. Author has explained all the content well in laymen friendly language. Overall quite informative read for me. Everyone should give it a try.
It's an educational book and it's quite insightful and well research as well. The concept of this book is pretty amazing and futuristic and terms like AI (artificial intelligence) and Information media (a period that began in the mid-20th century, characterized by a rapid epochal shift from the traditional industry established by the Industrial Revolution to an economy primarily based upon information technology) is being used. This book shows how AI is changing us and not only us it's also changing the whole world. Its continuously shaping us and our society. Author has really well-researched this book and arranged everything systematically. Language used is simple and easily understandable. Writing is lucid and narration is great . Overall it was nice reading it and recommended it to all.
"Hey Siri, what's the weather going to be like today?" ; "Alexa, call mom." Siri and Alexa, two names which we can find in almost every household around the globe nowadays. They are like our secretaries always on work. But still, Artificial Intelligence, this name carries an aura of fear around it. Why? The most common and reasonable reason is fear of human labour getting overtaken by Artificial Intelligence leading to huge amounts of unemployment and to be frank, we can already see such instances. Thus unknowingly, AI has become an unknown area of fear which we are even afraid to talk about. But if you move aside your fear a bit and embark to read this book, I can assure you that you'll come out of this fear.
Instead of pondering on the rich technological jargons, this book has concentrated more on the role of AI and its application in contemporary society. It explores how AI is interlinked with socio-economic structures and how AI amplifies the existing social problems.
Moreover, being someone who works closely with African countries, their data and internet issues are something which we face frequently; so when I saw a whole chapter talking about AI and Africa, I was interested to see the author's take on this and this chapter made me realize, plans and ideas shall be implemented according to your surroundings in order to succeed.
This book also tells that how wrong it is to depend on or blame technology for our societal problems. Along with these, algorithms, which we all know how deep-rooted it is in the world of social media, shows the unseen forms of inequality.
Thus, this book breaks the fear that we harbour against AI and gives us a chance to understand it beyond it's technological aspects and start talking about it. Being afraid of unknown will not make it known; so my dear friends, let's open this book and get a new perspective of Artificial Intelligence.
It's the year 2021, and we live in the 'Age of Information', where data can also be called as 'digital gold'. All the data from our digital existence is processed by Artificial Intelligence. Everything is guided and run by algorithm. Yet, we are unaware of how these algorithms affect us with the advances in technology.
“The World as a Neural Network: The story of AI and our future” by Niraja Bandi and Arghya Chakroborty is a collection of essays which helps it's readers understand the growing influence and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily life activities. The subject of AI is so fast that even an experienced techie finds it difficult to comprehend and this book details the information about the origins of AI, it's importance and the future in simple layman terms.
As an Engineer, I did come across a few projects on AI and the sheer technical knowledge required to understand and implement the algorithms is a herculean task. But the results are worth the effort. AI can be seen as a boon, if it is in the right hands. With every good thing, there always comes a curse. And AI also has it's fair share of adverse effects in this era of digital gold. All these relevant issues are comprehensively explained in the book.
If you are a science enthusiast or just a person who wants to know more on how our data is processed, then this book is a must read.
This Book's cover demonstrates that the world has in the hands of AI. This book describes Artificial Intelligence and how our future is compound with it? Like the brain, the world has neural networks to cope with AI. Without neural networks, the world can't be informative. These networks have been regulated by AI.
I'm new to this book's idea. Even though I can understand the concept of the book. Because it's well described. This book has been explained that the adequate of AI's importance and pursuit. The author points out the merits and demerits of AI literally. How our future is obscure with this development of AI? What is AI? How it's working on? How it's enrolling in Continental countries? are discussed in this books. Like a case study, the author has researched science information technology aspects. He has advised to avoid losing our future with this development of AI. the Overall brilliant masterpiece.
While reading this book I just wondered how gigantic is the neural world? How they are bounded with? What is AI? How the information technologies are working under AI? The importance of AI and how it's controlling human's activity and the significance?
It's one of those books which are tiny yet they held in such a resourceful information for its readers. The book is a systematic approach to the importance of understanding the fact that AI (artificial intelligence) is not only our future. We human beings are more focused on uplifting the level of technology and science in our lives that we often forget the fact that whether it is affecting our general well-being. The way AI (artificial intelligence) is progressing rapidly, it will lead to a future where human thinking won't be required anymore but is that what we want to end up with? The author has put in different statistics and data to help the reader understand the fact. The data presented here is a result of a well researched information. The narration is kept simple and easy making it a comfortable read for all. The language used is lucid. It's is a tiny book yet holds in such an interesting topic that it's definitely worth of reading. I finished it in one sitting only.
Imagine yourself in a self-driving car. The car interacts with you near like a human, it knows your music preference, your destination, and so on. Is it possible? I think it will be because of the use of AI in our technologies. The world as a Neural Network is an educational book which talks about how AI is spread everywhere from mobile phones to self-driven cars. It starts with the development of AI. It also explains how AI is affecting the economic structure of a country. The algorithm uses in google search, banking system, health, and other sector explained well. The book cover is best suitable for the title of the book. The book content is basic, there are many more facts that I would love to read about artificial intelligence. I must appreciate the authors for their effort to explain the complicated topic in a simple and compiled way.
"If you torture data long enough, it will confess to anything..." We are living in 21st century and its the age of science. And with science the growth of Artificial intelligence is just remarkable. It has changed our view and we can't live a single day without it! After reading the book, I must say that its really well researched. The author has given perfect insights about AI and how the big countries filling the world by using it. I specially loved it how the author narrated the social and economic effects of countries depending on AI. And the usage of quotes at the beginning of every chapter, made this book more beautiful. Most of all the readers can get to know lots of things, useful information by reading the book. The best part is that the author has narrated all the things in simple language. The narration is really good. The cover is simple yet eye-catching. Overall, an interesting book!
Have you ever taken a moment and thought the way in which we are surrounded by AI in every spheres, phases and aspects of our life? Take a breather especially from the smartphone (and I am not guilty in instructing you this as I myself will be doing so) and think how AI has been both a blessing and a curse. Start from the smartphone itself. Though some of us may not have Siri but most of us have Alexa and have you ever thought that who they are? How they came into existence? And how they are the most inevitable part of our life without our own knowledge and without there contribution in every second of our life, we are incomplete. Obviously they are none other than AI or the Artificial intelligence that I am trying to imply here. And I will also disclose an amazing fact here that if you do not use Siri or Alexa, or have no idea of what AI is, your smartphone itself is the Artificial Intelligence! Yes, you read it right, this person is your constant in every turn and ups and downs of your life. I said person to this Intelligence because many scientists love to identify it as a living and breathing human which has shown instances of curiosity levels higher than an average human being or mankind( just like the robot Sophie). The AI is a chain or network that if given a pictorial depiction may come to view as a series of threaded wires breathing and moving stealthily as is shown in a ECG machine. In Argha Chakraborty and Niraja Bandi phenomenal research book and work of The World As A Neural Network they have tried to show how does an AI work, how it come into being and existence and how our future will be affected with it's presence. They have deftly established and depicted the relationship of AI and it's definitions attached to every spheres of our life' s various which helps us to be alive. The AI helps to build, maintain and create a sustainable chain in vaccines, medicines, Computing professional sectors, banking, safety and the world networks itself. As the author's have claimed at the very beginning of their work that it is a short, precise work that has only made things easy for an average reader to understand the conceptualisations and depths of AI 's significance and functioning in it's already years of existence, they have remained true to their words. The book holds theory of various scientists, economists, critiques of many other fields including Antonio Gramsci, it has brilliantly introduced in it's extensive prologue the details about how a world runs on AI. The introduction every chapters of the book from American ' s market power to it's border policy control to Africa' s racial destabilizing to Cambridge's overpowering of a democracy to China 's work with viruses diseases and vaccines to UN 's proceedings to booking slots for vaccine in an online website, all motivated by AI. A work of science that is rare in this days, only you have to pick up this book and read it. With it's easy language, people associated in all professions of life can read it. The work is really a less time consuming tool just like the conception of an AI.
The main focus of “The World as a Neural Network” is Artificial Intelligence and how it has been affecting our lives. The book covers some basic points about the origin of AI and how it has progressed to its modern form. At the same time, it also sheds light on the fact that AI is not just a neutral network. Our lives are surrounded by mobile phones, laptops, smart TVs and whatnot. Technology is everywhere and AI is one of the major extensions of that. “The world as a Neural Network” brings together different aspects of life from the different generation which have been affected by the development of AI in a direct or indirect manner. In the beginning, the book feels really simple. It talks about some of the most recent events involving the use of Artificial Intelligence to manipulate people. Trump becoming president was a surprise to many, and all thanks to AI. But as your progress, you will realise that the initial chapters were only setting a scene. The act is yet to begin. The World as a Neural Network has taken me back in time and shown how world leaders and political organizations have been using their networking skills to influence the decision of the commoners. Well, they do it today as well. The only difference being that it is so much easier and efficient with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence. To many, it may seem as a book full of conspiracy theories. Regardless, the book does not fail to raise some serious questions. It does not fail to point out the role/ influence social media has had on some serious topics like Racism. Can artificial intelligence put an end to Racism? In modern economic conditions will AI take precedence over manual labour? What's interesting is that the above question “Manual Labour” includes both physical labour and mental labour. People who use their brain for the progress of a company or country at best could be out of jobs. There are a lot of questions and some are scarier than others. But what I like most about this book is it starts from the basics. I presume that the book is written keeping in mind the most naive of the folks who would be interested in learning about AI. In the beginning, it feels like you are just scratching the surface but read along and you will not be disappointed. Although it should be kept in mind that the language used in this book is not the simplest. And it could have been improved.
“CA’s database enabled it to target crucial voters in the ‘swing states’ in the US. Rather than appealing to the general-consensus of the voters and attempting to swing said-consensus in the direction of a particular candidate, CA used tactics that sought to fundamentally polarize the voters into mutually exclusive and opposing camps.”
Does AI have this much power to change the political future of an entire nation & thereby the whole world? It absolutely does have; & we’ve seen this in 2016 US elections when citizens’ data was used against them in order to fulfill greed to be in power. This is just one example which used Big Data & AI to dominate humans’ minds and to change economical, political & international situations.
“The world as a neural network” explains several scenarios from the modern/digital world where AI’s smartest characteristics have been used to dominate the human race. There are topics like Facebook-CA data scam, China’s social credit model, Racism & AI, Work culture & AI, European model for Data privacy, AI in Africa, etc. that clearly explain how machine-dependent human life has become & how machines will be more powerful than humans in near future.
This tiny book holds resourceful insights, statistics & facts about how the world is changing due to AI. Sometimes, we don’t even realize that we are being affected, we are into a certain filter bubble (such as Neo-Nazi digital forums, ‘flat- earther’ movement) which polarizes our minds & restricts contradictory views on things. Author explains all this in easy yet complex technical language.
I loved the chapters on Cambridge Analytica Data Scam and AI & racism. The former explains how the data was used destructively for polarization & later explains how people of color were largely removed from sharing their experiences in the world of science & technology because of race which eventually got embedded on AI chatbots resulting in spurting of racist language by them.
The book is crafted amazingly. Would recommend it to everyone.
This book is really very close to the author as she has expressed her thoughts on the Artificial intelligence. She has observed everything around her to understand how we are surrounded by technology, the book being a story of her own experience and not just solely based on facts and data has made the book special.
The book is not just about we being trapped in the technology, but it consists of examples demonstrating how the use of technology is impacting our lives. I felt that all the examples were practical and solid. They helped me to understand the author's point in a better way.
Neither the book is about the boycott of technology, she explained with an open minded and futuristic approach that where the usage should be controlled and how technology is helping us doing the things in a more convenient way.
The examples are not restricted to a certain region, she has done ger research so thoroughly that she explained the concept of pros and cons of the technology with the use of instances from all across the globe, she talks about data mining, click baits, told the scenario of China, US ,Africa, Australia and many more.
Currently AI has an impact on almost all the fields and sectors of the society for example social media, healthcare, education, finance, agriculture etc. So what can you expect from the book, The book will take you through these topics Meaning of AI AI in Contemporary times Its Impact Reality of AI This is just a trailer the book has much more to offer, i highly recommend this book to you guys.
The language used is simple and easy to understand, the book is not fast paced instead it gives you the required details to understand a specific topic. I really loved the author's way of writing.
The book cover is sober and shows what the bool is all about, all in all i had an amazing experience reading the book. This is the second book by the author i want to read more of her books.
🌍 The World As A Neural Network.. The Story of AI And our Future ~ Niraja Bandi, Arghya Chakraborty
⚠️ What do we know about Artificial Intelligence? How does it help besides being exploited? What should we do with AI? Where are we heading with it?
▪️Period between 1950s and 1970s mark the first phase of development of AI. The next is between 1980s and 2010s. The later is Deep learning where AI's learning abilities can scale with the availability of data, which marks the ongoing third phase.
▪️AI has widespread applications in various fields like cybersecurity, logistics, supply chains, manufacturing, health care & also in improvement of workplace communication. It has a key role in social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube. These sites use AI based recommender algorithms in order to analyse the preference of their users & provide content based on this analysis.
••The cover page itself gives a glimpse of what the book holds. The authors have done a fine research on AI and put forth the facts in a orderly manner along with references. The Netflix documentary film THE GREAT HACK gives a detailed insight regarding the first topic. We can never imagine how crucial data can be and what it can do in all the existing feilds. ••I cannot say that every one can move with it's vibe, but tech savvy persons can find it riveting. Also it isn't bad to go through, even if it isn't our cup of tea. Even the ones who have zero knowledge about AI can get the gist of it, with all the detailed contents in the book. There is a lucid and illuminating explanation for all the aspects mentioned. ••One topic a day might help. I commend the authors for writing on such crucial topics and I recommend this book to every one irrespective of age. I didn't get to read their previous book, but wish to read it one day.
'The World as A Neural Network' voices the the perks and drawbacks of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as experienced by the world in the past as well as how it is going to be in the future. Just as a superior creed or race named as human beings outwitted the old and worn out races, similarly, the impending doom which is about to impose a crisis on the human race is this Artificial Intelligence quotient. In the blooming era of technological advancements, it is inevitable that modernisation will slowly degrade the need of manual labour and will definitely replace our kind from the planet.
The book is segregated into chapters which brings to light the answers to different questions boiling in our minds, and clears the doubts one by one in simple layman terms. Highlighting topics via use of scientific and technological terms suggests that the book is definitely well-researched and informative. Digital arts and creative information being a genre out of my TBRs only made the book all the more interesting by posting updates on the imminent future of our civilization. 'China's social credit model' was a shiny new topic which gathered my keen interest on the subject.
Despite the title of the book suggesting the implications of AI in our future, there's no such mention whatsoever. The book mainly cites glimpses from the past, i.e., historical data and not future predictions as stated. The author clears up the dooming questions of the readers very responsibly and makes this read an enlightened and informative one altogether. This book is very much relevant in the present and I'd recommend it to all student readers for educational purposes.
Are you in search of informative book which guides you about Ai...? Do you know what is AI....it's artificial intelligence.
The World as A Neural Network- The story of AI and our future is a combined compilation of two authors, Niraja Bandi and Arghya Chakraborty.
I read their 1book which was #1 best seller on amazon Empower to Transform. I noticed one thing that their book is always based on deep research and knowledge which provides you alot information about that particular topic.
We often hear terms like Industry 4.0, AI and Machine learning in the news nowadays. Technologies like Siri and Alexa have become a part of lives of many families.
Still what do we actually know about these technologies which are spreading fast? What does a future with AI look like? What are the challenges and shortcomings of these revolutionary technologies?
This book is so informative and thought provoking. It deals with the artificial intelligence technology. It is rich in content. The language of the book is easy to understand and even people who do not know about AI can easily understand the book as it doesn't deal with the technological aspects of it but it's impact on society.
The book contains 9chapters where author discussed more about the artificial intelligence and models of different countries by doing many case studies by authors and it is very insightful.
The book is dedicated to all the entrepreneurs and innovators who helped technology advance beyond the wildest imagination.
Awaiting for more best selling informative books by the authors. Hatsoff to your work.
As the title suggests the book talks about Artificial intelligence and how our future is going to change accordingly. The book begins with very basics of Human evolution and how we have reached now to advancement in AI that will further help humans to solve problems. But with something progressive there are both pros and cons as well. Events like The Cambridge Analytica Kerfuffle In which the CA used data openly available on Facebook which states how important digital data is becoming day by day. In chapter China Social Credit Model wherein digital data was used to maintain update about people there and their social behaviour which led them to not get specific ticket or other rights as a citizen. The Author has also focused on Racism and how AI is linked with it even when we think that social media ans technology is for everyone to come together and ease life's of people. There are many more chapters related to the topics and it various aspects that make reader think and also give information.
What I liked- ~ The book cover and the title is very well suitable and gives perfect idea about the content. ~ The book content is basic and in lucid language so people from all the fields can understand what the book has to portray. ~ I loved how efforts for the research has been taken to bring this topic that many might feel complicated in such simple way and with examples.
I'll recommend this book to everyone who are technology oriented and are interested to know about AI in different aspects.
This book is an information densified work with a justified mesmerizing cover. The world of this neural network starts with a clarified introduction to Artificial intelligence, digital world and social media that depicts the platform, the writer is trying to build. This is not a tale so there is no point of giving a summary so, after going deep inside this intense informative book there are some highlighted topics that are worth reading. The pages has satisfying knowledge for everyone covering domains like Neuro-science, Data-analysis, Statistics, Signal-processing etc. that clearly verifies intense research work of writer. It has indulged international topics that you won’t find everywhere like China’s social-credit model, political co-relation under automation and United States politics. It has also integrated socio-economical crisis of different countries like Africa and China connecting them with Artificial intelligence in an engaging way. Writer has also adressed the sensational topic of Race and Racial profiling using Artificial intelligence. The domains are smoothly portrayed such that every reader can connect to their life. The book appreciably covered valuable topics like “The story of AI in future”. The scientific domain that excited me the most was using Silicon and wires as living neurons and dendrites under the idea of Artificial neuro network. This resourceful book clearly depicts the needs and with its ultimate goals of AI. Overall, it is an engaging reflection of AI in this rapidly changing world that is worth reading.
The way AI (artificial intelligence) is progressing rapidly, it will lead to a future where human thinking won't be required anymore but is that what we want to end up with? The author has put in different statistics and data to help the reader understand the fact. The data presented here is a result of a well researched information. The entire book is pretty resourceful, gripping. One more commendable thing about the writing is how efficiently it bounces from one chapter to another, clearing up all the unanswered questions without leaving the reader disoriented. It clarifies points from all angles.sense the author's vast knowledge about AI. The book also spoke about one of the burning issues of racism. The text cleared all the questions one by one without making the reader baffled. They cover the topic like the election in US in 2016, how they used the data for their campaign, the social platforms where our individual privacy is no more secure, the communist party in China who uses their citizens data against them under different development scheme. They present before the 90s films based on this AI which has established a mindset that someday in future this will overtake us destroy humanity completely as the Industrial revolution did to agriculture. In the book they have mentioned the several aspects of AI, the benefits and the drawbacks and how gradually they are taking their place in this materialistic world.I'll recommend this book to everyone who are technology oriented and are interested to know about AI in different aspects.

●About: As the title clearly suggests the book is about Artificial Intelligence and how it has been affecting our life so far,or it may in near future! Is AI shaping our society? Is AI going to take all our jobs oneday? Can AI actually take place of human minds? We are living in the era of siri and alexa anyway, which serves as our digital servant/partner whatever you call it. So you never know what can happen later on? This book also talks about how China,Europe,Africa is using AI nowadays, how it has been used. Although there's hardly any mention of our own country. The one topic i liked very much is how AI is influenced by racism! What is Scientific racism? Can AI solve racism? All of your AI related questions are answered here so do give it a try. ●Personal opinion: Pros- ♤Just because of there are 91 pages so don't think it's a short read. It's highly informative and well researched. ♤ If you have interest in AI then this book will definately satisfy your hunger, and will answer all your questions. ♤ every chapter is thoroughly explained. .
