Okay, fine. Fine, I changed my mind about this book. After much speculation, this book is still fun and exciting like the other books in the series and I am still grateful for it. And I actually don’t feel like it needs to be about Tessa, Tessa’s already grown so much. Now it’s time for someone else’s story and that person is Iyana. I will admit, I did grow to admire her throughout the book.

I initially though this was going to annoy me, but it didn’t. And it took me a while to see it, but I don’t mind this addition to the series. It might not have Tessa or Tristan as the main protagonists this time, but I sure as heck still enjoyed reading it.

Anyways, seeing Tessa finally mature and just lead others was…satisfying to me. Her character arc is already over, and it’s time for someone else to take the spotlight. I loved Iyana, and her story was also the best in this series and made me love it all the more. So I am grafeful that there’s another book in the series, because this one also will take its place in my heart along with all the others.

If you know me by now, I don’t see this series as just some urban fantasy romance. No, it’s actually one of my favorite book series overall as well. It speaks beyond werewolf shifters and vampires, it’s more than about love and romance. It teaches you that it’s okay to lead by example, it’s fine to feel weak, but at the same time, you can have strength in yourself. It shows that people got your back and that loving is one of the best things in the world that you can do. This, is why I love this series so much.

While Tessa and Tristian make appearances in this book, this series no longer belongs to them. Instead, we get some of the besties from Tessa's pack breaking out into their own stories.
Ever wondered why Iyana isn't quite a regular vampire? There was a reason, and in this book you find out why!
I hope Dannika gets her own too. She's in the epilogue and apparently Demon Pack ties into this world, but she's a growing girl, she needs her own space.

Oh My Gods! This book was beyond my expectations, it's that incredible! It's a bit of a spin-off but not. Although Tessa is in the story, it's about Iyana's path and more!
Get ready for the pure intensity, because I have to say I love this series but this was the BEST book hands down!
Captivating, sexy, powerful!

***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

Wow! This book gets your attention immediately and doesn't let it go throughout the entire book. It picks up right where we left off but this book follows Iyana and it is fantastic!

In the previous books, I was always so curious about Iyanas past. You really dont learn too much about her or her past in the previous books, but this ... well you learn a lot about Iyana and it is shocking and captivating. As always Everly throws so many twists and turns, that you are not sure what will happen next!

Everly is a fantastic author and I love her work! I was so excited there was a forth book to this series especially when I thought there were only going to be three.

His chin rests on my shoulder from behind, his voice a low murmur. “Even if it gets me killed,” he says. It was his promise to protect me.

Everly writes the most incredible books and I honestly think she doesn’t get enough attention. This entire series was just perfect. I love how these worlds and characters have all collided together to create this epic world full of friendship, love and magic. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

I thought the Soul Bitten Shifters series would be a trilogy, but lucky us, there’s now a fourth book dedicated to Iyana and it is AMAZING! You could theoretically read this one on its own, but it’s definitely better to read the others first to get the full experience. When a man from Iyana’s past shows up with the news that the demon Banta Sol is after her, she has to decide if she can trust him - or anyone. This book is action packed and exciting and I read it really fast because I wanted to know what would happen! It definitely did not go the way I was expecting at all! If you’ve enjoyed the rest of the series, you really need to read this one because Iyana’s story so good!

I received an ARC from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.

After reading the first 3 books in this series, I was looking forward to Iyana's story. It went in a direction I did not anticipate but was much the better because of the unexpectedness. I kinda wish she had her own series... Overall a 3.5 - 4 for me.

Gah! Holy flying vampire babies!!! Like I knew I was going to love this book but I wasn’t prepared for this! This book seriously takes you through all the feels and more. It’s also absolutely incredible seeing the world through Iyana’s eyes. She has always been such a unique character and a favourite of mine. So if she has been that for you, this story will only make you love her all the more.

There’s a lot this story offers. You get to see into Iyana’s past, which I was always curious to see more of but it’s also another healing story…which I love to see. Iyana, in a way, is very much like our adored Tessa. Trying to protect others always. You can truly see why these girls all click together just so perfectly. But to be honest I didn’t need a book to know this lol. BUT it’s a real treat getting inside her head and seeing the true beauty, strength and kindness of this girls heart. It’s so fitting that this girls blood is made of mercury…coz she is made of steel…and she’s about to be forged.

This is a story you will absolutely crave. A story that will be impossible for you to ignore or put down. So much happens keeping you engaged and 100% invested. There’s so many turns you probably won’t even see coming too. I tell you, Everly is getting more creative and sneaky with her plots and I LOVE IT!! She’s keeping me on my toes…but missy you didn’t catch me nah-uh. I was not falling for no tricksters. But just coz I figured it out doesn’t mean I completely knew how you were going to fix it. Coz if you leave it up to me it’ll most likely be “off with their heads!” 😂…but you did totally have my heart in my throat throat through a couple scenes. And yelling (internally of course lol) to stay the hell calm and don’t jump to conclusions! The stress is real guys.

I’m honestly not going to dive into a summary of this story coz I know my limits and know if I did I’d for sure let a spoiler free. So just go and read the story coz you are going to Looooooove it!!!

I have to say this…but guys there’s a life after epilogue for Tessa and I was totally there for it! But now I kinda have questions too lol. Everly is you going to give me future stories with these characters??… coz it kinda seemed like maybe? And I’m totally there for it! 😁😁

** Only click spoiler if you really aren’t worried about epilogue spoilers!!!**

Absolutely great work as always Everly. You truly never disappoint. Love, love, love you and your amazing work. You are forever blowing me away.

This book was given to me as an ARC…unfortunately due to health and getting my jab my autoimmune illness was not happy with me…so I’m a wee bit late. So I just quickly wanted to put something up. Sorry for the lack of entertainment or gifs lol.

Let me know in the comments your thoughts and what not on this newly released book.

I might not have been immune to his power before, but I am now. I am… f***ing forged.

Don’t forget to break rules and bite back. As Everly herself amazingly put it.

Happy Reading!

This Cruel Blood is the fourth book in the Soul Bitten Shifter series. The first book, This Dark Wolf, ends with the mother of all Holy cliffhangers! While the second book, This Broken Wolf, also ends on a cliffhanger it is a very different kind of cliff. The third book This Caged Wolf was the ending of Tristian and Tessa. So color me surprised when This Cruel Blood picks up right where Tessa and Tristian end.

Iyana, Tessa’s vampire bestie, has a past that has caught up with her. Granted he is a flaming hot pyromancer named Aiden, who just so happens to be in the employment of a demon, Banta Sol. Don’t let that get you down cause this second chance romance has chemistry that is off the charts. Aiden shows up not warning Iyana about his boss’ intentions of finding her and hurting her. Aiden kinda doesn’t trust that Iyana or her friends can keep her safe so he does what he has to do…kidnaps her. From there the race is on to stay two steps ahead of the demon mobster hunting Iyana.

Iyana is strong, fierce with a touch of class. She knows that she made mistakes in the past and yet she is trying to atone for them. Speaking of her past, holy smokes do we learn all about it. Her past explains a lot, how she ended up being loyal to Hidden House and Tristan, and why she holds herself apart from others. Color me surprised, I was not expecting her past to be so well… yeah that would be a spoiler.

Aiden is swoon worthy antihero. Every decision that he has made has been done to protect another. As his brother’s only protector, he had to made hard choices to do that. His only light was Iyana and then that light was extinguished. So he has walked around for the last year in the dark alone, until he sees a spark of her. Jumping at the chance to follow that spark he finds her to save her.

Due to their past, trust is a big issue, which is not surprising since this is a second chance romance. Iyana and Aiden together bring chemistry, and pangs of wishful hoping that they overcome their differences. Their love for each other was never in question. However, can you truly love someone if you do not know them or trust them.

This action-packed, tension filled read will keep you entertained for hours. The glimpses of Tristan, Tessa, Danika and Helen will welcome you home for this final instalment of the Soul Bitten Shifter series. The epilogue answers all of my remaining questions, and so it is time to leave the Soul Bitten Shifter realm. My only wish is that we would get a Lydia and Luna book.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Masterful Story Crafting Balances High-Speed Romance & Action

This Cruel Blood is book 4 in Everly Frost’s gritty, Soul Bitten Shifter world. Here we part from Tessa and Tristan, to follow friend, pack member, and vampire, Iyana. The story picks up right where we left Iyana at the end of This Caged Wolf, caught in her memory while staring into a fire. Little does she know; those flames are about to pull a fiery, hot pyromancer from her past right into her present. Thus beginning a journey of myth, self-discovery, and love.

Book 4 packs an action-filled punch. Fast paced to start, it slows and emotions catch-up toward the middle of the story, all to coalesce in the conclusion. The love story follows a similar pattern to the action, starting hot and early, slowing for emotional exploration, and then what a sweet ending. Of note, because this is a second chance romance, there is more focus on Iyana’s path back to Aiden than building a foundation for their connection. Consequently, I struggled with the quickly rekindled relationship, but as the story built and I learned their history, the more authentic it felt. Be forewarned, there is some on page loving. Additionally, while I would say this book is not quite as dark as Tessa and Tristan’s were, it’s still in the Soul Bitten Shifter world. So expect violence, character actions and motivations in all shades of gray, and some dark, unredeemable villains.

As always, the writing is spectacular! Frost is an artist when it comes to creating modern day myth through both her world-building and character development. She also finds surprising and ingenious ways to tie all her stories together, so for the familiar reader, watch for those Easter eggs. That said, while it’s probably not necessary to read the first three books (this is almost a standalone, spin-off); you will miss out on a lot of the little things if you choose to start here. Overall, the book is well edited and reads smoothly. And the epilogue is a gift to all of the Tessa- Tristan fans. I highly recommend you add This Cruel Blood to your “must reads” list.

This was a great book to end my hiatus!

Every Frost introduces us to a new character, Aiden, and also shows us more of Iyana. While we've only seen bits and pieces of her through Tessa Dean's story, this focuses solely on her character as she's plunged into a dangerous situation that she will have to face on her own to protect Tessa and her pack. Thankfully, she has Aiden to stand with her as she goes up against a new foe that's threatening their existence.

It has a lot of plot twists toward the end as betrayals are literally freaking everywhere in this book but the conclusion is so satisfying as we see Iyana come into her own as the strong warrior and loyal friend that she is.

I'm glad that Frost included Tessa and Tristan in the story (I'm sorry Iyana and Aiden, but those two remain my favorite) but not to worry, Iyana and Aiden are still the focus. I do wish that we had seen more of Iyana's character growth toward the end as they leave it with her still feeling unsettled and somewhat unresolved with who and what she is, although to be fair a lot of changes take place in those final chapters! This story didn't feel like it had as much relationship development between Iyana and Aiden, since it more or less picked up where they had left off previously in their lives. It also went at a slower pace than the rest of the series but it's still worth a read. Iyana is an amazing character who deserved her own book and her background with Aiden compliments her own story so much.

I will basically read anything Everly Frost writes because she does such an amazing job of writing stories that incorporate action and romance, with characters you root for. Yes, this book is not about Tessa and Tristan, but I actually didn’t mind that. Iyana is such an interesting character and by the end of the first chapter I was HOOKED and had to know what the hell happened in her past.

This book picks up right where the end of Tessa and Tristan’s book ends (at the Spire after the final battle), and you do get to see glimpses of the other characters you know and love from the previous book. But for specific reasons and some events that happen that are out of Iyana’s control, her and Aiden (someone from her past that she hasn’t seen in years) end up on their own trying to take down someone who wants to kill her.

Note: Can I just say - HUGE Aiden fan here 😍

The book has so many twists - some that I saw coming, and some that I definitely didn’t. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and was vey hard to put down. HIGHLY recommend - if you’ve loved Everly’s other books, you will love this one.

Also - I kind of died at the epilogue. It’s from Tessa’s point of view, and anyone who loved this series will love it. (It also confirmed a suspicion I’ve had that links to another series and I loved it So. Much.)

One spicy & intense story featuring Iyana & her enemy-to-lover Aiden though it rounds out the story of Tristan and Tessa perfectly. I just wish there was more to it! Iyana has been a secondary character for several books now, and I wish she could have been spotlighted in a few books; but I still loved what we got!

You really do need to read the Soul Bitten Shifter trilogy before starting this one or you’ll be totally lost. It was great to see all the characters from that trilogy; yet Iyana and Aiden branch off in their own difficult journey. Just when you think you’ve seen all kinds of supernaturals in this world Frost has created, she throws you a curveball with pyromancer so, dryads & more. Each one is unique and fascinating.

My only complaint is I wish we could have seen more of Iyana’s unwavering strength & independence in this story. By now though, she’s developed her character in the background of Tessa’s stories. She has plenty of character development - don’t get me wrong. I just wish we could have seen her metamorphosis from a sort of rogue bounty hunter to pack-member & teammate.

By the end; I loved all the characters and how the plot played out. I think the mystery & intrigue into what was really going on was so well done. I’m looking forward to what Frost will give us next!

Intensely riveting and will keep you guessing about what comes next! This universe has so many different beings and reading these different points of view was very interesting. These characters are complex and well thought out. The cover is all shades of epic and one of my favorites. This beautiful book encompasses all the best of Everly Frost that I've come to both crave and love. The immense world building, the angsty push and pull and the villain that you just can't help but want to see brought down.

This picks right up from where we were left in the third book... But surprise, it's about two other characters. We see these two broken beings who can't quite trust each other try to keep each other alive. We learn of their past together and see how they interact when trying to now do what's needed, the right way, together.

I was torn on loving our fierce female and wishing for more of the prior main characters. It's just a testament to Everly's storytelling that I missed them and was dying to know their thoughts.

If you love the idea of a vampire who is uniquely presented and a fire wielding male, who have delicious chemistry and who won't stop until his love is safe, pick this up! This is one hot book that you'll be reading in front of a fan. You've been warned.

It’s just not fair how every single one of Everly’s books makes me FEEL ALL THE THINGS!!! Her storytelling is just magic and the books are slower reads for me because there’s so much to grasp!

I find it hard to review her books because I just want to gush all my feelings on specific events and characters but I’d never spoil it for anyone; you need to experience this world for yourself!

I absolutely fell in love with the environment created during this instalment in the Soul Bitten Shifter series; the peace and wonder of the dryads, their kindness and bonds to one another, and the way the love of nature was captured. Iyanna’s healing journey and her self discovery along the way could not have taken place in a more amazing way.

The way myth and legend was wound into the story was so refreshing and engaging!

I need to mention, without spoilers, that the ending was so well written and thought out, making sure Aiden’s needs were also met which was really important for his character to begin healing after everything.

THE EPILOGUE!!! HAS ME SOBBING IN A PAINFUL BUT GOOD WAY, omg!!! :’(

Iyana and Aiden are characters from the Soul Bitten Shifter series, but I think this can be read as a stand alone (with a few character spoilers) if you want to read a single installment while deciding on the whole series. This book does tie in nicely to the trilogy, but not necessary to read it first.

With that said, I absolutely recommend this entire series. This Cruel Blood follows Iyana and we find out a little more about her past. It’s a second chance romance with external forces that continue to work against them. Aiden’s actions are driven by past trust issues (Iyana was not always as forthcoming with the truth) and the desire to save his brother. Iyana has learned to trust her new pack and that she does not always need to work alone. The male and female characters are strong, supportive of each other, and the evil characters are driven by their own desire for power with no loyalty beyond what can benefit them. This installment does not really have any gray characters in the middle.

Everly introduces the dryads, and it’s really fun how she integrates these new beings into her existing world.

Another phenomenal job!!!

slow slow slow

So I love Frost’s writing. I think her books are well written with few typos and her stories are always fresh and new. I loved Tessa Dean’s series but I do think Frost can sometimes become long winded and her stories can drag. I was excited to read Iyana’s story but it was sooooo slow that I forced myself read to 45% never really feeling bought into Iyana and Aiden like I did Tessa and Tristan. I took a break with this book and came back to it and just plowed through. I’m so glad it was a stand alone because I don’t think I would have continued reading if it was more than one book. I don’t know if the pace bogged the story down so much that I didn’t feel connected to the characters or if something was off with the writing but it really wasn’t my favorite by Frost. It picks up around 80% if you can make it that far.
I already started Demon Pack which this book sets up in the epilogue and so far that’s been awesome. You don’t need this book to read demon pack but since many of Frost’s books connect it’s nice to know how. Anyway slow read not what I was hoping for with Iyana’s story but you might love it.

Absolutely brilliant

The story started from the end of This caged Wolf ending and straight into the action & introducing Aiden. I love Iyana & Aiden's story, all the links back to soul bitten shifter and assasins just makes me.wamt to reread them all. The 🔥🔥 in the story is good but doesn't take over the story and Iyana like Tessa is such a strong but compassionate character. I also did nearly cry in a few places.

Would recommend this story if you like pnr, with some spice but not to the point where story becomes secondary to the spice. You could read this book without reading any other Everly Frost books so if you're a newbie give this a go then go read all her other books (worth it).

The 1st chapter of night hunt make some want to read that now, so although this book is a standalone and finishes without a cliff hanger there is still another book to look forward to.

Also Las Vegas and Demon Pack that is coming out shortly is hinted at.

Stars: 4/5
Heat: 5/5

This Cruel Blood is a M/F PNR that is part of the Soul Bitten Shifter series that started out with Tessa and Tristan's story. Even though Tessa and Tristan are a small part of this book, this is all Iyana and Aiden's story and what a story it is! I love the second chance romance feel and the struggles to come to terms with the past. I have always adored Iyana and was so excited to get to know her better and learn about her past. This is a story about finding yourself, learning to let go of the past and learning to rely on the people who love you. The twisty twist thrown in, had my jaw hanging open! It has action and plenty of heat. Aiden is *drool*.

I think this book can be read as a standalone, but it is a part of a series and if you want to get the whole story of Iyana's pack and how they came to be, then I recommend starting with the first three books of the Soul Bitten Shifter series.

Wow where do I begin? This is the 4th book in the Soul Bitten Shifters series. Everly has hit the ball out of the park with this one. Its a bit darker, the fight scenes are enthralling, the sex has heated up! What has stayed the same is the way Everly has created a world and characters that have you believing they are real. If you loved following Tessa and Tristan's story you will love the adventure you go on with Iyana and Aiden. The heartbreak of death, the anguish of trying to overpower the evil and the joy of love you find in this book will keep you hooked and turning pages.
The ending may have been written as finished but it's been left open for more incredible adventures! The crossovers with the Bright Wicked series and a tiny glimpse into her new series Demon Pack will have you craving more from this incredibly talented author!

Loving This Lore!

This story continues immediately from where book 3 left off, but is also somewhat of a spin-off as well as being a continuation. This story now follows Iyana and Aiden and we get to learn so much more about Iyana and the events that led up when we first met her at Hidden House. I absolutely love the depth of Iyana's character and seeing her grow through this book and Aiden is just absolutely swoon-worthy. The chemistry and fire (hehe) these two have is off the charts!! Those revelations at the end though, amazing! Mind-blowingly amazing! The lore that is being created for this world is so intricate and feels so fresh, I just can't get enough! I hope we get to read much more from this crew!

The afterglow of This Caged Wolf puts vampire Iyana in a nostalgic state of mind and seconds later ex, Aiden Brand appears in the fire, theoretically to let her know she’s being hunted by the demon responsible the injuries that sent her to Hidden House. Can she believe him or is he still under the demon’s influence?

You know what? I don’t care. I didn’t invest in Aiden and Iyana’s relationship and the revisited pieces of their backstory in chunks were paced too slowly for this reader’s taste and cost all the interest I had in Iyana’s character bank through the other outings of this series.

I was so happy to go back one more time to the Soul Bitten Shifter world. Everly did a fantastic job of showing us characters that we love, while letting us really get to know Iyana, and meeting some new characters! I can say that this one had me all over the map in my feels. The action, suspense, and twists were so perfect! And the steam? Chef's kiss! And the epilogue I was so here for! If you haven't read anything by Everly Frost before, I highly recommend! This book, as with her others, takes you on a journey. She creates characters that you love, cheer for, yell at, and cry with. I loved this, and am so sad to say goodbye to this world and these characters!

Iyana's story

Loved Iyana in the Soul Bitten series so was so excited to read her story...

Everly threw in some shocks here, I have read almost every book of hers and I did not expect that twist with the Metalman!!! There's even a bit more steam...who's been corrupting my light Everly lol.

I did not have a clue where this story was going to go and really enjoyed the reveal. Wanted to beat Aiden for the first half of the book but the way he adored Iyana I can forgive him for his actions.

This one has all the great storytelling you would expect from an Everly book, it's detailed and full of content with characters full of heart that you can't help but support.

Loved the check ins we got with Tessa, Tristan and the pack and the four years later epilogue was a lovely surprise whilst also hinting at possible future books.

A novella for the card twins would be nice...I am so attached to the hidden house ladies

I love the new characters and twists to this additional story that features the main cast as well as new ones! Powerful Enemies that gave me the chills! The fight scenes were spectacular and bloody!!! This does not disappoint! you DO NOT WANA MISS THIS!!! Tessa and Tristan are back and i don’t think this world is done yet! Loved it!!! Aiden and Iyana’s story was absolute magic! Coming into this story we only know Iyana and how she’s a wonderful, loyal and powerful pack member of Tessa’s. We finally get to see behind the curtain and dig into Iyana’s past, and with it comes Aiden. Aiden is like Iyana in the sense he’s much more then he seems. They have a history together and a lot of love for each other but they don’t necessarily trust each other. I thought the aspect of the two of them not being able to completely trust each other was really interesting. This was a fast paced story that was a stand-alone in addition to Tessa’s story and it’s everything you didn’t know you need!

I have been anxiously waiting to read Iyana’s story and it did not disappoint. The characters in this series wrapped me up and I quickly grew attached to each of them.

Iyana and Aiden have a complicated history when they finally meet again. The lies and deceit from Iyana. The lack of trust in Aiden. Despite this they desperately want to be together and will do anything to protect each other. Choosing each other allows them to let go of the past and working together they both become stronger.

I am sad to see this series come to a close as the soul bitten shifter series was my first by Everly frost. I loved every second of this series and I’m happy Iyana got her story told!

This Cruel Blood is book 4 in the Soul Bitten Shifter series, but tells Iyana and Aiden’s story instead of Tessa and Tristan. Iyana has always been different for a vampire and I was so excited to read her story and finally get some answers! I would personally say this book is a little darker and steamier than the previous 3 books and I loved Iyana and Aiden’s chemistry!! 😍😍 Plus I loved getting to see all the characters from the first 3 books again because I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters and this world. Highly recommend checking out this series if you are looking for something different/unique in urban fantasy!
