I stole Lucifer’s wife. I’m pretty sure he’s gunning for me now.
I’m not alone anymore. I’m pretty much the opposite of alone.
First there was Kara, the LAPD homicide detective who now knows what I am. Now I’ve got a house-full of people I need to protect from demons, and a movie star girlfriend who’s a newly awakening angel.
Oh, and I kidnapped one of my oldest friends, who happens to be married to a guy I grew up with, who I’m pretty sure is actually Lucifer.
As in the Lucifer. Angel of Darkness. Guy who brings badness.
His wife, Jade, might be an un-awakened fallen angel, too, but I can’t just hand her over to my old high school pal, Uri, her husband. Not when I know his motive numero uno will be to awaken her to join him in covering the world in darkness. Dealing with Uri on his own is bad enough. Dealing with two of them would be a nightmare, especially since my own girlfriend, Phoenix X, can’t control her new powers at all.
Worse, Phoenix just started work on a new action movie, so in addition to stressing about Uri wanting to kill her, she has to worry about her wings spontaneously bursting out of her back in mid-shoot.
All in all, it’s a weird time to be in Los Angeles.
Especially for a demon-hunting angel P.I. and his movie-star new-angel girlfriend.

“Angel on Fire”, the fourth installment in the “Angels in L.A.” series by JC Andrijeski, a gritty witty urban fantasy for adult readers.
Dags Jourdain is in too deep, again… this guy really can catch a breath, he has barely become accustomed to being around people and yet he still thinks he enjoyed being alone, things were easier then, or at least less dangerous for those people around him. But after his last stunt (he stole Lucifer’s wife if you have to know) he has put a target on his back, Lucifer himself is gunning for him, and not even his wings can outrun the Angel of Darkness. And as cherry on top he has to worry about new GF bursting into wings herself in the full view of the public during her last movie shot. No wonder he is beyond stressed 😉 and not even Steve McQueen can soothe him – if you know you know, and if you don’t… what are you waiting for to pick the series, a written invitation? Just in case… herewith you are officially invited to meet Dags Jourdain 😉
This is exactly how Urban Fantasy should be conceived, it has it all: • atmosphere (noir L.A, do I need to say more); • background story (a guy whose life has been forever changed by unexpected events); • plot (supernatural P.I. who juggles his official investigation business in Hollywood with his fate as demon hunter); • and then… then there is Dags Jourdain 😉, said P.I. and the most interesting guy ever to glaze the UF verse. Imagine Angel (yes, the one from Buffy) without senseless brooding and with real wit dry humor, plus an uncanny power for accurate observation (usually called cynicism by those who don’t have it), a tendency to end up naked in the most inappropriate places (don’t blame him! It’s just collateral), and a very pragmatic approach to his supernatural life, the fact that he is also very easy on the eyes is just a bonus. Did I mention he is demon hunter angel! There are not enough stars on Hollywood Boulevard to rate this guy 😊.
JC Andrijeski has created an amazing character, infusing him with enough humor, credibility, charisma and intelligence to make him come alive throughout the pages, almost perfect, almost because, there is caveat though: once you meet Dags you would not be able to escape his charm, the lure of the….. angel will have you forever in its grasp. A fully addictive series, beware before reading, there is no coming back, which is already a senseless warning, isn’t it? because… if you are already here, you have already been hooked for the last three books already 😊 and should you successfully have been hiding under some rock, desist… resistance is indeed futile 😉 and succumbing to the lure is so much sweeter and…. fun!
This review is of Adel on Fire, the 4th book in the Angels in L.A. series, byJC Andrijeski. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains spoilers! Is anyone really surprised that there would be demons and the angels that hunt them in LA? LA is already strange, right? So people flying around with huge wings, that’s just another publicity stunt. And no one can heal a cut throat with light coming out of their hands. Right? So Lucifer, the main fallen angel, hasn’t been living in LA for years, “infecting” people with demons, and making them do terrible things. And Dags with one of the biggest hearts on earth and the weight of responsibility of saving everyone isn’t Lucifer’s minion. He isn’t there to help Lucifer take over Earth and get everything out of it he can. There’s only one problem. Dags may know he’s a fallen angel, the wings are a dead give away, but he doesn’t remember anything else. Nothing. Nada. Not who URI is for sure, not who he is, none of it. And URI is tried of waiting. He wants Dags to remember NOW. With her usual skillful blend of setting a scene, characters so well developed you think you know them, and a plot that will keep you guessing, JC has created another masterpiece of suspense and action. I just have one question: what happened to the sword?!? And yes, definitely coffee! Can hardly wait for the next one!

Angel Dags has stolen his friend's wife Jade away to protect her from him as he believes Uri is Lucifer and that he is trying to awaken her to join him. But he is no longer alone as school friend Kara is an LAPD homicide detective, there is a house full of people and his girlfriend Phoenix X who is a movie star and awakening angel who cannot control her powers properly yet - all who need to be protected from demons.
This was certainly an action-packed instalment of the series as Dags had crisis after crisis to handle as well as the constant drip feel of information and sometimes misinformation and trying to work out what was real, what was true, what was a lie, and more importantly what was significant. Throughout it all, he discovered more and more about what and who he was as well as what and who Uri his schoolfriend was too. Well written and full of action and revelations, this was very addictive and I just could not put it down. It was easy to read and understand but you do need to keep up with the pace of the revelations and discoveries. There is one hell of a revelation at the end of this book which just fused my mind for a while so prepare to sit a think about this for a while when you finish it. I really can't wait to find out what happens next - this author really is very clever at her art.
Angel on Fire picks up right after the previous book; after Phoenix’s rescue and Jade is staying with Dags’ friends to keep her safer from Uri. Uri is livid that Dags took Jade from him and is retaliating by attacking Dags and Phoenix’s friends. Dags spends most of the book trying to figure out if he can stop Uri and his followers, while also trying to get more information about their shared backgrounds. What he finally finds out could change everything for him and Phoenix.
I really enjoyed this book. I've enjoyed Dags' social ignorance throughout this series and I think the movie premier scene was probably my favorite so far! He's just so naive and in love with Phoenix that it made for a great, well-written scene. The ending of this book had some pretty major revelations and I'm really looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next book. I have faith in Dags (and Andrijeski) that I will not be disappointed. This is a great series that I definitely recommend!
It was a very interesting and well written book. I have not read the other books in the series so I do not know of any tie ins between the stories. You have demons and well good and bad angels. The question is who is Dags? The story Is Uri’s mission to make Dags help Phoenix to awaken her angel up. That is what the reader is to believe but in with all that is going on the reader will discover a hidden agenda. It seems some of the characters are aware the Dags is not the average human. So I would suggest you read the other books so you are not missing any information from them and you will enjoy this book very much!
Read this book. Straight through if possible, otherwise the plot twists and turns are confusing. I make a point not to include spoilers, but (deleted expletive!)
In ANGEL ON FIRE (Angels in L.A. #4,) JC Andrijeski definitely has a way of creating complicated male characters who communicate badly while still being fairly hardcore alpha male. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the explicit sex scenes. There, I mentioned it.
I’m moving on to the epilogue, so I can get to book five.
What??? Dags is still somehow reluctant in his role, one thing he is sure about is Phoenix. They are absolutely on fire together. His friends in the Malibu house are there to stay and help, and Uri is still playing games and they get more and more convoluted and grisly. It looks as if we get a few revelations along the way, but ... no, not really. And then we do find out ... something ... And that one is a game changer! Wow!
Fallen angels and fated mates? Yup, deliciously done plus so much more in this urban fantasy mystery. Yes indeed, JC Andrijeski has wowed again in this wonderful fourth installment of her Angels in L.A. series, Angel on Fire. Deep into the series it just gets better, complex yet super easy to follow, I love the superbly crafted characters and fantastic world-building in the series. I’m a sucker for great story telling so no surprise I highly recommend this book.
I so want Uri to get his and now I'm miffed at Jade. The good news is Dags and Pheonix are together and they're getting stronger. This part of the tale is all ups & downs and boy is it fast paced. You're on a rollercoaster and when you get to the end, the bubble pops but you want to race back and ride it again. This author has that kind of impact on her reader's, it's addicting and we keep coming back for more.
There’s so much that happens in this book. As Dags goes further into a world he is still trying to wrap his head around, he finally accepts his relationship with Phoenix, and starts a fight with his former best friends, Uri and Jade. He is such a strong character with overwhelming emotions I can feel.
There are a lot of good characters and exciting action.
The ending ends on a shocking cliffhanger, and a desire to dive right in to the next book.
That's a very appropriate title. Dags and Phoenix continue to try and figure out why Uri won't leave them alone, he tells lies they can both see, but never actually gives them any reason. Just the same old b.s. about Dags and his lack of memory of the past. Great read, !
You might not see this one coming…or, you might just see it from a mile away—if you are looking for the clues; but hang on to your hat, because either way, this one is a doozy! Dags and Phonix are finally, really, together, but Uri is definitely not done with them. Twisty, dark, delicious fun 🧡
I can’t get enough of this series! Love the characters and the storyline. The saga continues with Dags trying to figure out who Uri really is as well as himself and Phoenix. They’ve come out to the public as a couple so now more eyes are on them and they have to be extra careful. Uri is still up to his tricks and continues to lie to Dags, who is just beginning to see Uri for what he is.
The author dropped a bombshell at the end of the book. Now I’m impatiently waiting for the next installment.
OMG - this one is going to fry your brain! It will keep you on the edge of your seat with expectation of what's going to happen next as the plot thickens and has plenty of shocking twists! Loved it! Can't wait for the next installment! Highly recommended.
I love this series. Dags just wants to protect his friend from the man she married, but he will soon find out that doing so puts everyone else he cares for in danger, mortal danger. Action, suspense, and fascinating characters. I loved it.
Awesome storyline No memory of the past life, but determined to find it. Drama, action, suspense, mystery, plots with twists. Love it I do find it kind of whiny and repetitive ; when Dags is over thinking things.
As with the previous three books of this series I couldn't put it down and highly recommend that you read this one as well as the previous of this series.
