There's nothing in this book you won't find in every other book about mindfulness, but being of a very concrete mind, I find it helpful to hear the ideas in contexts that I can easily identify with.

For example, while I can read about how life is suffering/dissatisfaction/imperfection and get it on an intellectual level, I don't really apply it to myself. What claim do I have to suffering? (I'm suddenly remembering a conversation in college with a friend who complained incessantly -- more out of habit that any real dissatisfaction, I thought -- and one day I told her to stop complaining because she didn't have any real problems. She was extremely offended, needless to say, and came back with something like "Oh, so you're the only one with real problems?" and I told her no, not at all. I didn't have any real problems either. She didn't seem to know what to do with that.)

So, suffering? Not so much. But constantly carrying the weight of my to-do list? Oh yeah. That's a feeling I'm familiar with. As is the frustration and resentment of being controlled by email, Facebook, etc.

And Goodreads too, apparently. I need to exercise some awareness and intention here and go to bed...

When I saw this book at my local library, I thought, WoW, a book about computers! Hmmmm, I guess I neglected to read the sub-title, "Ancient secrets for the creative and constantly connected." The key work here, being "ancient". Rather than a guide through the web 2.0, this is much more a self-help title, filled with zen-like stories and quotes. If that is what you are looking for, I would recommend this title, otherwise, stay away!

Having read quite a bit on zen buddhism, I found this repetitive. Stuff like "true happiness has little to do with our situation in life and much more with how we have cultivated a sense of inner well-being." You will find what you expect to find. One person can feel successful with one million bucks, while another feels like a failure.

The beginning of the book tried to relate these types of topics to people who are always connected, but by the end, I think he must have run out of computer examples....

This book isn't earth-shattering...but mostly in a good way. It's intended to slow us down, especially in our pursuit of work in life. Initially an outgrowth of the Wisdom 2.0 conference in Silicon Valley, the book is a call for us to infuse more life into our work/life balance.

The writing itself may not be better than three stars, but the helpful reminder--and the impact--on me warranted four.

Good initially with some amazing insights but gets repetitive and boring later. Overall a welcome read and needed too.
