I had no pre conceived thoughts about this book when I first picked it up, not an author I had read before, however, this was an impressively satisfying read, one that had me hooked throughout.
A slick and taut thriller, rich and deeply intelligent plotting, with a complex and intriguing narrative. This is one of those reads to take your time and savour. There is a lot going on as the story twists around
A powerful thriller, which starts slowly setting the scene for what is to follow and introducing us the some of the main protagonists, but it soon builds the intensity turning into a dramatic powerful story
A political thriller where it’s roots are set in the Middle East whilst mainly set in Argentina, whilst a story about my rider in someways I found that incidental, it’s what was behind it where the mystery lies.
The story is superbly character driven, they make for a varied set of protagonists richly fleshed out, fair to say there are a number of characters which can at times seem overwhelming, however, they are all there for a reason. I loved the way Veronica is written, on the surface a straight forward journalist, but underneath a deep, complex strong person with a steely determination to seek out the truth
As a read it tackles plenty of themes how big business deal with the press, it shows how war crimes should not be overlooked. It’s a read where the stakes are high.
There was another side to the book and that was the human side to the characters, some of who lead varied and complex lives, there was a certain warmth, plenty of mixed feelings and emotion
I loved the way the story picked up the intensity, leaving it dripping in suspense, the ending as satisfying as what had gone on before
A word for the translator who brought a gripping thriller to life on the page with real quality. One of those reads that want to stay with you.
Highly recommend, an author and series I’ll be looking to read more of
