Born in California, Caryl McAdoo got to Texas in time to celebrate her first birthday. As a Dallas seventh grader, she remembers a homework essay on ‘What will you be doing in 2000?’ Looking into the future, she saw herself as an inter-galactically famous author, streaking from planet to planet signing books.

She laughs, “But I didn’t start writing again until the late ’80s, then was so blessed to find the DFW Writers’ Workshop in ’93.”

Her first book debuted ’99, then for the next nine years, she averaged a title a year from four traditional presses: two non-fiction, four novels, and three mid-grade chapter books.

In March 2014, her first historical Christian romance VOW UNBROKEN debuted from Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In April that year, she re-released LADY LUCK'S A LOSER (formerly The Apple Orchard Bed and Breakfast) with a new chapter. In September 2014 HEARTS STOLEN, book two in the Texas Romance Family Saga historical romance series, debuted as her first new Indie, and in November A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, her first Biblical fiction series The Generations launched. So four titles in 2014.

Book three of the historical Family Saga HOPE REBORN debuted in January 2015 to start off a whole new year with eleven new titles planned. THE PREACHER'S FAITH comes in February, Caryl's first contemporary in Red River Romance series. THEN THE DELUGE COMES, volume two of The Generations, follows in March.

Since 2014, she's published over sixty new books, averaging over seven new titles a year through 2020. She completed the 'Texas Romance Family Saga' with a total of ten novels, plus several 'Texas Companion Books'!

Plus, she's eight books into a second series, the 'Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga' and debuts a third New Beginnings saga's book one WAGONS WEST in November 2022, her fifth book for the year.

Also known as Grami, she adores twenty-five grandsugars, and she and O’Pa—her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty+ years write together. She’s dedicated to advancing God’s Kingdom through her novels, praying her story gives God glory!

Caryl loves to share her testimony, pray, and praise and worship Him; He frequently gives her new songs.

She believes all good things are from Him and that her books will minister His love, mercy, and grace to her readers.

Irving, Texas remained her lifelong home until 2008 when she and Ron followed God’s leading to Red River County in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State. There at The Peaceable, the twenty acres of blessings they call home, the McAdoos raise chickens and goats while waiting for God to open the next door!

This is the second book by Caryl McAdoo that I’ve read, and they have become family affairs for me and the girls. We find them so entertaining that we call my daughter in Utah to listen in on a chapter while I read and the other girls at home listen too. We felt like we really knew the characters and could predict the ways they would react.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

First off, I love the cover of this book. It gives such a warm feeling and it is simply beautiful. It makes me want to dig into the book. Ruth is a wet nurse for Logan’s son, and traveling on a wagon train for out west as well. This had to be a difficult task for Ruth to do. I have read many wagon train stories, and I love them, but some of those trails are rougher than rough! I enjoyed following these people as they traveled together to their new land and homes.

I really liked Ruth and Logan and Caryl McAdoo’s writing is again phenomenal. I enjoy her writing style and enjoy laying back and just enjoying the ride. The characters were special and developed well. I so much enjoyed Ruth and Logan. Logan was so nice and caring. And so was Ruth but having turn him down for a marriage proposal, that made for a little bit of a strain but their story none the less Their sweet story is a very good, and enjoyed reading it so very good. I want to read more of the wagon train stories when I get a chance, and I highly recommend this one, especially if you enjoy historical reads.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

In hopes of escaping to the west and away from her shame, Ruth and her baby girl set off with hardly any money. Wondering and praying about what they should do, another family is in need of a wet nurse for their baby. Ruth agrees to work for Logan and along with his baby son and thirteen year-old daughter Hannah, they make off with the wagon train to Oregon.

Their hardships are many like others before them and those that come after them. Both Logan and Ruth have been unhappy in love and have made mistakes based on their poor choices. But Logan begins to woo Ruth and he wants to win her as his wife. He wants their makeshift family to become a true family. He does have his work cut out for him as his daughter is not so sure Ruth is the right one and even Ruth is not sure they would be marrying for true love.

This was a sweet adventure of a group of people who become more and a love that can grow out of past mistakes.

I was provided a copy of this novel by the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

RUTH is a beautiful story of forgiveness and love. Told from a Christian perspective, God’s plans unfold naturally, and remind the reader that we can find love through believing in His plan for us.
Ruth and her baby, Julia, are down to their last dollar when a girl cries out a request for a goat in a diner. Bound for Oregon, Ruth manages to strike a deal for employment as a wet nurse with Logan Manchester, the young girl’s father. The journey along the Oregon trail begins, and it becomes clear that Ruth and Logan each have secrets from past relationships. He hints at a marriage of convenience, but Ruth wants true love.
So many things can happen on the Oregon Trail. Can falling in love be one of them?
I cannot say enough beautiful words about this story! It was so refreshingly pure, even with the characters’ past sins. The theme of love and forgiveness was strong and fulfilling.
I recommend this book for young adults and experienced readers, as some innuendo is described to understand past sins.
Caryl McAdoo has clearly researched the trials and tales surrounding the Oregon Trail, and it is clear in her work. She also finds applicable ways to wind scripture into the story. I will definitely read more books by this wonderfully talented author!

Christian Historical Romance

This is the first Oregon Trail book I've read with this kind of ending. I didn't even know, what they decided, was an option! I love how there's so many variables and these stories never get old. A wonderful story of God working everything out for those who love Him! (A paraphrase of Romans 8:28.)
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

I love stories that speak to God’s providence, evidenced through the intersecting our lives with others as they are put in our path. We need only pay attention and make the right choices. Such is the story with Ruth. She is at a crossroads until a life changing opportunity is put in her path. Here is where the journey to her intended life begins. This beautiful storyline is crafted around characters that are easy to love, using situations that remind us of the strength and determination possessed by the ones who chose to make the rigorous journey along the Oregon Trail. This reader was not disappointed with this story of providence sprinkled with spiritual truths, Godly standards and lessons of the heart.

This clean story is appropriate for teens and older. It does make mention of nursing and monthly occurrences that come about as a girl becomes a woman.

I received this book from the publisher/author free of charge with no expectation of a positive review.

Before I get started on my review I have to mention the cover of this book. When I received it in the mail, I couldn’t stop looking at it. It is a beautiful cover and fits perfectly for this book. I just wanted to give a shout-out to whoever did such a phenomenal job. Now on to the review.

I loved the time period and especially reading about traveling the Oregon Trail. The author describes the terrain ,danger and weather so vividly that I felt like I was sitting in the wagon. It must have been so difficult to travel this way with all your belongings. For those who had children it was more difficult as they had to make sure they were safe and comfortable while trying to keep them happy.

Ruth is a wonderful young woman who does a selfless act in order to save a baby. I loved how she didn’t hesitate to offer her assistance. It was an answer to prayer for her as she was needing to find a way to support her and her own baby. It was the perfect solution for her and the ones she was helping. The author gives us glimmers of Ruth’s past and shows us how she is having a hard time forgiving someone. She is afraid to love again because she doesn't want to get hurt. I couldn’t wait to see how the author would guide readers to a lesson in forgiveness and believing in yourself.

Logan is a handsome man who is traveling with an infant son and older daughter. His character is honest, God loving and fiercely protective of those he loves. When Ruth joins up with him the adventure really begins. There were hard times ahead for them as their destination was a very long one. I loved being back on the wagon trail as our characters learn how to work together and slowly develop a relationship with each other. There was a small problem though. Logan’s daughter is not happy with Ruth and becomes very rude to her. I think she needed a time out for awhile. What I liked about her character was how desperate she wanted a mother but wanted to be sure her dad didn’t get hurt. There is a lot of pain that these three main characters must work through. I loved how each one learn to let go and let God.

The story is a wonderful look at the Oregon Trail as families travel for new beginnings. I loved the faith element that caressed each page. The lessons are plentiful in the story as we learn about forgiveness, taking up an offense, being bitter, trusting God to direct your path and loving unconditionally. As always this author writes a story that is rich in faith and draws me closer to Him.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Caryl McAdoo is one of my ultimate favorite authors. I am always ready to read her new books as they are released. Ruth is Book 8 of the Prairie Roses Collection, a collection of standalone novels by Various authors.

Ruth is a single mom who is traveling the Oregon Trail. She is hired to be a Wet-Nurse for a recently Widowed Single Father. Ruth saw this as an opportunity to not only help the orphaned infant boy, but to take care of her son and herself financially. Ruth has been struggling with so much and she wants to start anew in the West, and she is enjoying her trip West. Logan, who is the recently widowed father, begins having feelings for Ruth. He expresses to Ruth that he feels she would be a perfect mate for him. Ruth is looking for love, but she isn't certain that Logan is the right one for her. Will Logan be able to convince Ruth that his admission of feelings for her is real and he is falling in love with her? Will Ruth be able to trust him and allow her heart to be open for love?

WOW, another GREAT book by Caryl McAdoo. The main Characters, Ruth and Logan, are wonderful characters. They both have had struggles recently and are bought together by chance. Was it really chance or was it God's plan? They both have the same desire, to start anew in the West. I really like how Ruth was strong when approached with the idea of "Marriage of Convenience". She really wants what is best for all and she made sure her heart was in the right place. Logan is determined, but also sweet and caring! I also must say the Book Cover is just STUNNING! Perfectly fits the story! GREAT BOOK!

Ruth is part of the Prairie Roses collection, which is a collection of standalone novels from various authors. As such, you can read and enjoy this one even if you've not yet experienced any of the others.

While I would classify historical romance as a favorite genre for me, I must say that this particular time period is... well, it's just not the first I typically reach for first. However, I was immediately drawn in to the cover of this book--- it was absolutely stunning, and quite fitting for the story inside too. In this story, we meet Ruth as she is working as a wet-nurse for widowed Logan's son along the Oregon Trail. As someone who is a major supporter of nursing, I thought this was a fascinating topic, and honestly one that you don't find in too many novels (in my experience at least). I think this also helped me appreciate just what a big task taking on nursing another infant would be too! Ruth and Logan's characters were both very well written and they drew me into their story and the story of their children. I've read other stories taking place on wagon trails and the challenges that that journey could bring, but adding the kids into it really made you think what that must have been like and just add another unique element to the story. The author did a great job of sharing the struggles, while also having great messages of faith as well.

Overall, I thought this was a sweet read and one that fans of historical romance are sure to enjoy.

4 stars

Prose: 54/5
Romance: 4/5
Characters: 5/5
Plot: 4/5

Prose:

This was beautifully done by the author. The novel kept a very calm to-the-point type style, which was fitting for the prairie lifestyle of the characters.

Romance:
I thought it seemed a bit forced on occasion, but it was well-written and the characters complimented each other well. They faced and overcame realistic obstacles as well, which I appreciated.

Characters:
This was definitely my favorite part of the novel! I think the author did a pretty good job with the children, a few of them seemed almost too childish, but it was realistic to the characters and their experiences, so I didn’t have a problem with it.

Plot:

I enjoyed the plot, but I thought there were times when it moved forward too quickly and skipped over areas that could have been important and relevant to the story.

Overall:
It was perfect for a cozy day and a light, easy read. I very much enjoyed the characters and the author’s writing style as well!

Content:
There is a mention of childbirth, some of the characters take part in immoral actions, there’s also talk of marriages and things after marriage. Definitely 15+

Ruth is a Christian Historical Romance written by Caryl McAdoo. This is book 8 in the Prairie Rose Collection. The Prairie Rose Collection is written by a variety of authors. I have read a few other books in the series, and have enjoyed them very much.

Caryl McAdoo is one of my favorite Christian Authors. I discovered her through a Facebook party. She is very reader friendly, and writes such amazing stories. Caryl also intertwines her series with familiar characters, and I love that about her. In Ruth, we are transported to a time where wagon trains were a way of life. We see an unwed mother, a widowed father and two people who can benefit from helping each other. However, can they love and grow a relationship? Ruth knows that Logan needs her help to feed his infant. I love that she was willing to help. She knows she wants to go West, and this would help her attain that goal. Logan is a man of faith - and I love how he spoke to Ruth about his faith.

I love how much research that the author has put into this book - I learned a lot through her story. The author always tries to make it as real feeling as possible.

This book contains well written characters, a fun story line, and a heartwarming romance.

Ruth takes you back to a wagon train and continues a fun series called Prairie Roses. I have loved every book in this series so much.

I love that Ruth is a wet nurse for a baby on the trail. Ruth has her own baby but this is an answer to prayer so that she can support herself and her baby. Let’s face it, this time period was not nice to women with babies and no man around to care for them.

Ruth is determined to find true love when she gets west. But she doens’t count on her employer trying to convince her that he is her true love. Can she let her guard down and open her heart? Or will she hold out for a true love that she’s actually passing by?

I highly recommend reading all the books in this series. You don’t have to read them in order but as always I recommend that you do so you don’t miss out on anything!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Wagon Train

This was a very well written book by Cargo Mario and I enjoyed reading it a lot. A young unwed mother, a widowed father, a wagon train to Oregon, needing help to feed baby, a job as a wet nurse, going to Oregon, feeding two babies, a thirteen year old daughter and a baby son, getting along, walking, walking, and more walking, getting to know each other, starting to have unwanted feelings, arguing with the daughter, introducing other women to her father, being rude and argumentative, realizing its love, splitting the wagon train, meeting a boy,. Did they have feelings for each other? Why was the daughter rude to her? Were the babies doing good? Why did the wagon train break up? Who was in charge? Starting to have feelings of love? Did the boy have feelings for the young girl? Will they have a happy ever after? Will they marry? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and find out what happens to everyone. I really enjoyed this book. Enjoy.

Book 8 in the Prairie Roses Collection is a standalone so if you’re like me and haven’t read the first seven in the series no worries. Just jump in.

This delightful story about a wet nurse takes place during the push west. I enjoyed the bits of history that author Caryl McAdoo put in it. It definitely rounds out the story well. The characters are flawed and likeable, just like all of us. While they work through their issues together, we see God’s hand on them as they find forgiveness and grow into a sweet romance.

While this is a clean novel, McAdoo doesn’t skirt around the challenges of improper relationships, a sassy teenager, and real life on the trail. This includes a woman nursing two babies and the teen who “becomes a woman.” But it is well written and if you enjoy Christian historical fiction I can recommend Ruth.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Ruth by Caryl McAdoo is book eight in the Prairie Roses Collection. This is a series written by different authors. This is a nice Christian historical fiction that takes place in the mid 1800’s. Logan’s wife dies giving birth and the goat he purchased to feed his newborn son dies as well. His older daughter brings a young single mom to hire on to feed the newborn as they go west in a wagon train.

I just adored this story. It’s a nice easy story to read with caring, strong characters. The selfless act of Ruth to feed another person’s child as well as her own is touching. The struggles Logan’s older daughter goes through are so real. The dangers of the Oregon trail are present in this story as well as the faith and strength the people need to survive. It’s nice to see how God makes the worse situations work out for the best in the end.

I received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

What you might need to know:
Ruth by Caryl McAdoo is the eight book in the Prairie Roses Collection. It is a stand alone book and doesn’t not have to be read in order. It is set in 1842 on the trail west.

What you might need to know:
Logan has lost two wives in childbirth.
Ruth is an unwed mother.

What I think about this book:
I have been fascinated with the Oregon Trail since trying to survive the journey in an elementary computer lab. As a McAdoo super fan I was ecstatic to read Ruth. McAdoo did not disappoint. Even if you have read a hundred western trail books this one feels new. Ruth is hoping to find a new beginning with her daughter after trusting the wrong person. Logan needs a wet nurse for his newborn son. Add in a spunky young teenage Hannah to create a grand journey, finding God's love and forgiveness along the way to a new life.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Having the opportunity to read a book by Caryl McAdoo always brings a smile to my face. Finding a way west initially proves more of a challenge than Ruth expected. But she finds a way west for her daughter and herself by serving as a wet nurse for Logan’s orphaned son. However, she starts off turning down Logan’s proposal for a marriage of convenience. But the trip provides ample opportunity to discover that God sometimes moves in mysterious ways. We can sometimes find ourselves placed in the right set of circumstances to find true love, even when we are not expecting to find it with the person in front of us.

Caryl McAdoo creates stories filled with characters and storylines that draw the reader in and causes them to want to read more books by her. This story lives up to my expectations for these historical works of Christian fiction. So check them out for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story full of faith as well as all the emotions that comprise the "stuff" life is made of. This is Ruth and Logan's story (as well as two babies and a sassy teenager), and the character development is excellent. Ruth agrees to serve as the wet nurse to Logan's infant son and, since she was at loose ends in her life and needed a way to provide for herself and her baby, to travel by wagon train on the Oregon Trail with them. Logan offers a marriage of convenience but Ruth refuses wanting instead a marriage built around love. Will their relationship grow into love as they travel and become a HEA? Be sure to read this fantastic story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

My Thoughts:

Caryl McAdoo’s book “Ruth” is full of hardships as Ruth finds herself in a wagon train being a wet nurse. Why? You must read the book to find out! Logan is thankful to have her take care of his son and his daughter takes a liking to her hoping she's found a new ma. Things don't go according as planned and mishaps begin to happen. Will Ruth open her heart to trust another man? Great characters! Loved Ruth, in spite of her circumstances she made the most of it. A story of trials, secrets, helping your neighbors, and it will bless you as God guides Logan and Ruth in the path he provides for them. Want to know the whole story READ THE BOOK!

Blessings,

Karen

I liked the premise of this book, but it didn't flow very well for me. Part of it was the characters' manner of speaking, I think. I also didn't really like Hannah that much. I found her annoying and irritating with her stubbornness even when they told her the truth about something. The presence of two babies in the story could have provided a "cuteness factor", but they didn't have much of a personality other than fussing about wanting to nurse. I liked the biblical faith elements through the story and how we need to rely on God and to exercise forgiveness.

I just love this author's writing style. She gets the time period and the book just flows and the characters are so realistic. The issues they have to deal with fit the time period as well (and that makes me happy because sometimes authors mess that up). I also like that the characters aren't perfect and are completely relatable.

Logan was a great guy and I loved how selfless Ruth was. Feeding someone else's baby isn't a small task. There was just so much to love about this story and it was really easy to read because it flowed so well. Overall, I'm just really happy to have read it.

4/5.

It's a good just read book

The story starts with Logan's daughter finding Ruth to help care for his infant son. His wife had passed away giving birth, then the goat he had been milking died, he had no way to feed his son. Ruth had a young baby of her own and was quick to offer to help feed the orphaned baby along with her own. This is a clean story of two thrown together travelling Oregon trail and hoping for a brighter future. Many of the issues any couple with each already having children might face as they get to know each other. The trail gives extra stress. I love wagon trail type stories. This one is a blessing you won't want to miss.

Another great one by Caryl! This is part of a series but they can be all read as stand alone stories as they are written by different authors. This was a cozy read and pretty quick at least for me. I love this setting of the wagon trail and the storyline. The characters were my favorite. I loved Logan and Ruth and their story. The topic of a wet nurse was nice and refreshing as you don't see that in many stories. I absolutely love how Caryl weaves in faith throughout her stories and this one was no exception. If you have never picked up one of her books I highly recommend that you do!

Overall I thought this was a great read. I didn't want it to end and wanted to continue reading about these two characters.

Sweet, clean, Christian romance

This was a sweet, clean, Christian romance. Ruth was trying to figure out where to go when Star came into the restaurant where Ruth was seated. Star was looking for a goat or milk cow to feed her baby brother. Ruth was nursing her own baby and volunteered to help. Star's father, Logan, ended up hiring Ruth to feed and tend to his son on the trail to Oregon. Both Logan and Ruth had issues to overcome, and with the help of God and their faith in Him, they did. I lo e reading Oregon trail romances and this one definitely did not disappoint. I highly recommend.

Very good read

This is the story of Ruth, Logan, their children Star, Nora, and Julia. Travel on the Oregon Trail is very difficult for everyone. Logan seeks a goat or a cow for his young son and ends up with Ruth as a nurse maid for Nora and her daughter Julia. Star immediately starts match making Ruth with her father. Ruth is in search of True love and was having nothing of it. The long journey on the Oregon Trail was the the meeting of Indians, buffalos and death was the worst of all. You can read all about these in this book. Plus there is more then one true love. Enjoy

"Ruth" by Caryl McAdoo has Christian principals all through out there novel. It is a sweet romance. Hannah is a 13 year old who wants to dad to marry so he can have a wife and she a mother. Does Hannah matchmaker work or does it backfire. I encourage you to read this tale and find out for yourself.
Ruth wants nothing but a marriage of true love and nothing else would she accept, I really urge you to found out if her desire is granted.

Ruth

Another great book by Cargo McAdoo. It's A sweet, heartwarming book that I really enjoyed. Ruth needs a way out west and Logan needs a wet nurse for his son. And he has a young daughter that desperately wants a mother. After agreeing to travel west and turning down Logan's proposal, Ruth is not sure what will become of her after they reach their destination. A lovely story filled with emotion and interwoven with faith in God. Well written with an unexpected twist. If you like historical western romance, I recommend this book and series.

A different plot when two meet going to Oregon with mutual needs to care for their children. Intertwined with much scripture, Ruth hesitates for a marriage of convenience after her previous experience with a lack of trust towards men, needing to move on to heal. Logan's young teen daughter, Star, is realistically portrayed with undulating mood swings. Can they overcome their past for a loving future? The story had me all the way up to the epilogue that definitely needed a better, more informed conclusion, in lieu of merely a quick afterthought. Otherwise, a good CF bedtime read.....

This book showed God’s provision and forgiveness. God brought Ruth and Logan together when they both needed the other one. Even though a marriage of convenience would have made sense, Ruth wanted to marry for love, not convenience. I loved watching their friendship grow. Add two babies and a talkative and moody teenager to the mix, and it made a great story. I would recommend it.

The two main characters meet in an unexpected way and work out a deal to help all her to Oregon. They both have pasts they need to deal with before they can move on with their lives and be able to have a future. I do like there is a spiritual side to this story and then how the characters grow by the end of the story to be in a better place than where they started. This is a beautifully written historical romance.
