Mark Hyman, MD, believes that we all deserve a life of vitality--and that we have the potential to create it for ourselves. That's why he is dedicated to tackling the root causes of chronic disease by harnessing the power of Functional Medicine to transform healthcare. Dr. Hyman and his team work every day to empower people, organizations, and communities to heal their bodies and minds, and improve our social and economic resilience.

Dr. Hyman is a practicing family physician, an eleven-time New York Times bestselling author, and an internationally recognized leader, speaker, educator, and advocate in his field. He is the Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. He is also the founder and medical director of The UltraWellness Center, chairman of the board of the Institute for Functional Medicine, a medical editor of The Huffington Post, and was a regular medical contributor on many television shows including CBS This Morning, Today Show, CNN, and The View, Katie, and The Dr. Oz Show.

Dr. Hyman works with individuals and organizations, as well as policymakers and influencers. He has testified before both the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Senate Working Group on Health Care Reform on Functional Medicine. He has consulted with the Surgeon General on diabetes prevention and participated in the 2009 White House Forum on Prevention and Wellness. Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa nominated Dr. Hyman for the President's Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health. In addition, Dr. Hyman has worked with President Clinton, presenting at the Clinton Foundation's Health Matters, Achieving Wellness in Every Generation conference, and the Clinton Global Initiative, as well as with the World Economic Forum on global health issues. He is the winner of the Linus Pauling Award, The Nantucket Project Award, and was inducted in the Books for Better Life Hall of Fame.

Dr. Hyman also works with fellow leaders in his field to help people and communities thrive--with Rick Warren, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Dr. Daniel Amen, he created The Daniel Plan, a faith-based initiative that helped The Saddleback Church collectively lose 250,000 pounds. He is as an advisor and guest co-host on The Dr. Oz Show and is on the board of Dr. Oz's HealthCorps, which tackles the obesity epidemic by educating American students about nutrition. With Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Michael Roizen, Dr. Hyman crafted and helped introduce the Take Back Your Health Act of 2009 to the United States Senate to provide for reimbursement of lifestyle treatment of chronic disease. And, with Tim Ryan in 2015, helped introduce the ENRICH Act into Congress to fund nutrition in medical education. Dr. Hyman plays a substantial role in a major film produced by Laurie David and Katie Couric, released in 2014, called Fed Up, which addresses childhood obesity.

Nothing groundbreaking here from my perspective. Decently written but no pictures even though the second half of the cookbook is recipes. Most of the recipes rely heavily on soy products, which I try to limit in my diet.

Love these recipes. Best veggie recipes I have ever seen. Try Chopped Broccoli with Olives and Slivered Brussels Sprouts with Shiitake Mushrooms.

*The "how to" following the "why to"*

A great complement to his _UltraMetabolism_ book, Mark Hyman's recipe book contains 200 ultra-delicious ways to put the UltraMetabolism approach into practice. The first part of the book highlights the essentials of the UltraMetabolism approach (i.e., the "why to"), and the rest of the book contains recipes that integrate this approach (i.e., the "how to") with an incredibly do-able plan. The recipes are simple--even the ones that require more prep time--and the final creations are quite foodgasmic. Think of this recipe book as a guidebook for transforming your kitchen, diet, and attitude from ho-hum to holy-yum!

Great emphasis on eating real food and detoxification of the body. I find it a bit outdated regarding autophagy, ketosis and hormones.

Excellent cookbook (although wish there were more pictures, I love cookbooks with pictures, this one has a few). All the recipes I've tried so far have turned out very well and a few are now on my regular rotation.

All the recipes are designed to promote health, which is important to me.

My only quibble with this book is that, as a vegetarian, I wish it had more vegetarian recipes and fewer meat recipes; and a few recipes are marked as "vegetarian" but have fish in them.

Definitely recommend for anyone interested in eating a healthy diet.

I borrowed this book from the library first, then I had to buy a copy bc I missed the recipes so much. This book is great for making healthy foods that are family friendly. Lots of recipes with fresh herbs. I stuck to the phase 1 stuff as I was on a pretty restrictive allergy diet. The guacamole is to die for. Yummy!

This book presents a summary of Dr. Hyman's Ultrametabolism and also includes a lot of tasty-looking recipes to help you follow his advice. I read three books by Dr. Hyman this week (Ultrametabolism and The Ultra Mind Solution as well as this one), but this cookbook is really the only one I needed. It presents most of the information much more succinctly.

It's so great that there are doctors like Mark Hyman who are totally dedicated to the idea of nutritional cleansing, who explain why it works, and then give us recipes to boot! I love this book, and the recipes are delicious!

Many great recipes - not a vegan cookbook, but many great vegan recipes - to support Dr. Hyman's UltraSimple and UltraMetabolism plans.

Interesting, but a little too high-maintenance for me. Nothing jumped out at me and said, "Yummy!", so I know I would not be able to stick with it.

The recipes have almost no flavor. Many of these recipes appear elsewhere or in slightly altered versions in his Hyman's other books.
