I loved this book that reminded me that we were never meant to do it alone. Watching the main character grow from loving her anonymity and isolation to craving connection and protection was fantastic. I felt for her during her struggle with rejection and I rooted for her while she tried to evade those who were intent on kidnapping her. It was good to be reminded that when we think we are in the wilderness, our Father is always there … watching and protecting. None of us are beyond his reach.

The pacing and tension that drew me in while reading ‘Rescued’ in the ‘Cold Escape’ anthology was still there in this book and that made me extremely happy. I’ve added this author to my auto-read list.

I was gifted this copy by the author when I signed up for her newsletter.

A great little short story. I read it in one sitting. May (or Ember) is hiding out from her parents as well as the world but someone has found her and it’s not good. A lot of action and suspense to acquaint myself with this author. I will definitely be reading more of her books. I received this ebook from the Author as a welcome gift for joining her mail list. No request for a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Fast-paced and really quick read even for a novella. The action begins almost immediately and doesn’t let up until the satisfying conclusion. May Denver is in hiding but the bad guys find her anyway. Enter stage left her annoying neighbor Mark who wants to help, but she isn’t sure that she can trust him. There are a lot of incredible scenes in the book that were too coincidental to be believed, but together they made a great story. Faith and Christian values were emphasized in the book although there was some violence, but it was not graphically described. There was an underlying tone of evangelism in the book. The characters were credible and I would like to see more of them in future books.

2.7 stars: It was okay.

I liked enough about this novella to be willing to give the author another try. After all, I tend to find novellas less convincing as a rule, so maybe her full-length novels are better. That said, this book had me raising my eyebrows in disbelief many times—often at characters’ stupidity. Even a typical four-year-old would find one thing obvious that the characters in this novella were apparently oblivious to. And it happened more than once, with more than one character. Another thing that had me raising my eyebrows had to do with how quickly and easily a lifetime of emotional scarring was supposedly completely healed. I realize there’s only so much space in a novella and that it’s not uncommon for authors to gloss over such things, but this book seemed to be a pretty extreme example of it. Still, like I said, there was enough that I did like to make me think there’s a chance I’d enjoy other books of hers.

• 4 stars—I really liked it and will likely want to read it again

I really liked Introverted! Jerusha Agen masterfully blends suspense with emotional depth in this short but powerful story. May Denver is a character I instantly connected with—her desire for solitude, her guarded heart, and the quiet strength she discovers when everything falls apart. The winter storm setting adds a chilling intensity that mirrors the tension perfectly.

What really stood out to me was how the story balances action with introspection. It’s not just about survival—it’s about trust, vulnerability, and finding courage in unexpected places. Agen’s writing is sharp and evocative, and I found myself racing through the pages while also wanting to savor every moment.

If you enjoy romantic suspense with a strong female lead and a dash of faith-driven hope, this one’s a must-read. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Jerusha Agen’s work!

I am a huge fan of Jerusha Agen's Guardian's Unleashed series, so it was fun to receive a short story upon signing up for the author's newsletter. Introverted is a high action short story that I devoured in no time. I enjoyed the story of May living in a remote area of Wisconsin hiding out from her wealthy parents, the media, and her past. She isn't really kind to her well-meaning neighbor, she just wants to be left alone until someone breaks into her home.

You should sign up for Jerusha Agen's newsletter for all her latest bookish news, as well as this action packed short story!

May isn't sure what to think when her neighbor clears her driveway. May just wants to enjoy the peace and quiet of the snowy Wisconsin morning, but she felt like someone was watching her. I received a free copy of this short story from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is an excellent suspenseful short story. I love how May was able to rediscover her faith in God.

Be intrigued by the start from the beginning. It felt a little slow at the beginning as we learned about the background of the main character, but you really need to have this information. Suddenly the pace changes and you are off on a harrowing journey that zigs and zags.

You’ll love the other part of the story dealing with where she is on her faith journey and how it grows and changes her thinking.

A woman hides away from her extremely wealthy family. Tired of feeling like she’s an afterthought to their money and fame she leaves and goes to an isolated place. For 3 years she has no contact with her family or anyone else for that matter. She’s safe in her little home. Enjoying the peace and solitude until someone interrupts it and kidnaps her for a ransom. Will she be safe?? I thoroughly enjoyed this Christian Suspense

This was supposed to be a short prequel. The first half of the story was good. Well-written suspense. Then it fell apart. The main character became a person without common sense. At the end several new characters surfaced without any indication of who they were. Then all of a sudden in the last few pages there were a whole bunch of faith issues inserted as if tacked on without much support. Needed lots of editing. Which is too bad because it started out in a great way.

Three Stars!

First my many thanks to the author for a copy of this book when I signed up for her e-mails. I was not required to offer a review and all opinions expressed are strictly my own.

Non detailed Spoiler alert! See content concerns at bottom.

A very good quick read that's full of suspense. An overall enjoyable read. May (or Ember) I found rather irritating, and very self centered. I don't care if you didn't trust Mark after he didn't tell her the full truth of who he was (not saying that was right) but either way, this guy has risked his life repeatedly for you, and your just going to go against what he says to keep you safe? I don't know maybe it's just me. So yeah, May's character is what brought the rating down for me. However, as I said above it's an overall good read. Good suspense, timing, word building etc. I would recommend picking up this short story and giving it a read!

End of spoilers.

Content Concerns:

A kidnapper runs his gaze over a women saying he usually like to "Have some fun first" before killing his victims. A couple gazes from men that make a women uncomfortable. A man tells a woman that she makes self-employment "look appealing." Which at first a women finds creepy, but the man quickly corrects himself saying that he ment that she gets to sleep in late and wear her pajamas. Overall very clean read.

God bless!

I really enjoyed this short story and my only complaint was it was too short. I want more! Wish we had more of May/Ember's background, more info on why she's kidnapped, and more development between Ember and Mark.

A short story full of suspense and thrills. Trying to hide from the world and just mind her own business. Trying to get away from the limelight that surrounds her family. She finds herself in the crossfire of getting kidnapped for ransom.

Wow. Just wow. I didn't expect to like this, but . . . I totally do.

I received this book for free. Everything I've written, good and bad, came entirely from my own head while or after reading.
