With humor and compassion, Dr. Nicholas H. Dodman explores the complex emotional problems of troubled animals and their (often) equally distressed owners. If Only They Could Speak has become a classic of animal literature, with stories as wise, and almost as human, as the lives of the animals they portray.
This is the first book I've read from this supposed celebrity-vet (maybe?), and I liked it. I can't comment whether it's just similar materials from his other books though, this being my first book by him.
I enjoyed the cases he presented, both the happy-ending ones and the not-so-happy ones. The 12-step program was brought out a couple of times and I'm tempted to try with my dog, but I'm not sure if I have enough resolve to go through it.
I'm very surprised with the vets working with other vets from other clinics so closely, I doubt it'll ever happen with vets over here.
I wonder if the good vet deliberately placed the order of the stories as it went: the unhappy endings first, then the happier ones later.
Overall a good read. Managed to finish this in one go too :P
