4 stars for the folklore and story. 3 stars for the writing. If you live in CT/NY and are interested in the prohibition era and bootlegging in CT than this is a perfect book. Lots of history on that time period. Local legends/stories. I live in Branford right around the corner from the old Talmadge House/Nellie Green's and the Farm River so all the references to places I know was fascinating. The pictures that were included were very interesting. The author really needed an editor. Lots of it was repetitive and felt like I was reading a college book report/paper.
I bought this book because I live in Branford, CT and am very familiar with the site where Nellie Green had her business. I love history and learned a lot about the time frame of her life. Renzoni did an amazing job of presenting this true story about an amazing women. I am really enjoyed this story. Get a copy because it is a great read for anyone who enjoys a true historical book.
There was not as much about the subject Nellie Green, however well written, full of facts surrounding Nellie's bootlegging and rum running days. She was one heck of a woman. Worth the time.
I was so excited to find this book while visiting family in CT. My grandparents and lots of other family lived near Nellie Green's and I was thrilled to learn more details around the lore.
Mr Renzoni confirmed that she was a total character. He gives a fair amount of history on prohibition and rum running. My only criticisms are that it is a little repetitive and I would have loved a map to show rum row.
