Mystery-solving duo Shelby & Watts are back on the trail! They're saving the environment, one case at a time.
Violet the bear has awoken early from her hibernation, but she doesn’t know why. She’s called on Shelby & Watts to solve the case before her son, Theodore, is roused from his hibernation, too. With Shelby’s deductive skills and Watts’s scientific know-how, they’ll leave no stone unturned or question unanswered.
In this follow-up to Tide Pool Troubles , our two environmental detectives uncover the larger issue underlying Violet's early start to climate change. With accessible language and tips for what readers can do in the face of environmental change, this is a gentle introduction to one of today's most pressing issues.
felt too choppy with all the nonfiction factoids, also there were some glaring grammatical mistakes! I am not one to typically find all the errors, but these stood out!
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from Viking Books for Young Readers through Edelweiss+. Shelby and Watts work together. One is a detective and one is a scientist; together they solve mysteries. The one they face in this book stumps them until they put all the clues together. A mother bear woke up early from hibernation and is trying to keep her son asleep. The detectives interview other animals all over the mountain and pick up facts along the way. Anstee weaves science facts into the overall story so readers can solve the case as well. The case's answer may be obvious to some readers but the explanation will make sense to all of them. Further information on climate change is provided at the end of the book. The artwork is colorful with many details to study. Readers are challenged on some page spreads to find and identify animals. Great family read or one elementary students will enjoy on their own.
A cute beginner graphic novel focused on climate change. It's also a mystery and has lots of fact inserts. There is also a little "I Spy" page that is super cute. Great way to tell about the effects of pollution without coming off as too doomsday or preachy.
Climate change and signs of spring. Divided into seven or so “chapters” but readable in a single sitting with a kiddo whose interest has been captured. Just a little bit of silliness, but also enough facts to get the point across…and lots of rich vocabulary!
A good selection for teachers and parents wanting to start a conversation on climate change. This text shows the impact on the animals and environment and encourages youth to make small changes like turning off extra lights to conserve power and fight climate change.
when Shelby and Watts get a letter from Violet the bear saying she needs their help, they spring into action! But this is a big mystery, and even the Planetary Investigators might not be able to solve it!
