The Stone #3

Stone Hearts

Rate this book
Two Guardians meant for war are now given the permission to love. After the last battle had been fought, and any threats have been eliminated, the watcher decrees that the guardians should go forth and live as they would choose. A life of freedom and happiness. But without a mate some of them have no idea how to accomplish this.

Aasim helped Jashik through the mending of his broken wing and his feelings for the injured gargoyle grew during the time they spent together. Aasim does not trust easily, but he has complete faith in Jashik, so when they’re told they should go and enjoy any happiness they can, he’s eager, but also a little hesitant as they decide to begin a life together. Neither of them has a mate, so the prospect of not being alone for eternity is very appealing to him, but still, he’s afraid to open his heart to the other gargoyle.

They were promised a lifetime of peace, but the arrival of an old forgotten foe brings all the gargoyles together to fight against a force that is strong enough to destroy everything they’ve worked so hard for. Love or duty, now they’ll all need to choose.

I loved this book. Wonderful world building and endearing characters. In this final book, we get introduced to new characters, and some familiar faces from the previous books. Just when it looks like there can be peace and happiness, a new foe and danger arises, and all will have to band together to fight for their future and happiness. I loved Aasim and Jashik together. They were sweet and had such great chemistry. An excellent, exciting, and fast-paced read. I miss this series already. 5 stars.

What’s not to love about gargoyles? Though their hearts may be made of stone, they know how to love fiercely and fully. “It mattered not where we went, only that we went as one.” Aasim and Jashik have been through a lot as friends, fighting partners and now as more. Seeing them recognize that they have feelings for each other and the way they protect each other because of that is magnifique. I love this series and each focuses on a new couple but the underlying story arc is connected. It has suspense, action, fantastic characters and is all-around fun!

Oh, but these poor Guardians can never catch a moment (or a century) of rest…
Now that the Watcher has freed them to live as they wish, Aasim and Jashik have made a home of their own, spending time with their animals and loving each other. But as evil threatens they are back at their brethren’s side to fight for the good, alongside Jonna the Watcher and unlike allies such as the vampires.
An exciting and action-packed book where the two gargoyle’s bond, is not at the forefront of the story but stands as a solid background to represent all that they are fighting for: freedom, love and happiness.

Good performance from narrator Allen Jeffreys, who’s scratchy voice is perfect for these supernatural creatures, be they gargoyles, vampires or dark Watchers.

This entire series has been amazing and Aasim's and Jashik's story was even better. I could not get enough of their developing love for each other and the life they decided to build together. They definitely deserved it all after serving as the protectors they were made to be.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fantastic! Gargoyles, vampires, mystery, love, suspense and action!! When Jashik is hurt, Aasim struggles to leave his side. Aasim and Jashik have been given permission to leave and live their lives. They know they’ll have to come back when called but for now they can love and be happy. I loved how they realized they were mates. Well written story line with complex heroes! I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received.

I really liked the first in this series, and I felt pretty ambivalent about the second, so I was pretty curious about this third one. I really liked Aasim and Jashik, and I wish their personalities and individuality and progress to discovering their romantic feelings had been explored more. We had a lot more world ending worries to deal with instead, and while that's not bad it's also not what I expected.
As far as the antagonist, it's been escalating quickly along the series, from vindictive wizard in the first to most powerful in the world in the second to most evil in the universe in the third. It also feels the most detached from our world, which rubbed me oddly, given how settled the first one is in our universe and that the second isn't as far removed.
I had hopes, and while they weren't dashed they weren't fully met.

The audio is so good, the voices are brilliant and different, I really liked listening to it, but somehow I couldn't get into the story.
Anyway, the audio is 5 star, the narrator made it perfectly.

BL Maxwell has something special in store for those fans of the Stone series. In this third book, she has paired two guardians together as fated mates and the chemistry between them is exceptional. Being created as protectors of a city far away, the gargoyles were stolen and conscripted to the service of the wicked vampire Marcus who was vanquished during Book 1. The second book of the series sees them facing off with a vampire more ancient than Marcus who has control over the man he turned centuries earlier. The third gives us a formidable enemy right when there seems to be peace at the citadel and environs.
In 'Stone Hearts', The Watcher gives the gargoyles freedom and liberty to make their way in the world in order to find some measure of peace and fulfillment. Aasim who helped Jashik through the mending of his broken wing, team together to build a small farm some distance away. Sensing a disruption from the area of the citadel, Aasim and Jashik go back to see if all is well and find things shut down and everyone, save one brave vampire, gone. They are told the worse possible news imaginable: A new, powerful, and malignant Watcher showed up at the gate and left with a large number of guardians under his command. And their very own Watcher friend hasn't been seen or heard from since.
They are successful in locating her and the handful of guardians safeguarding in addition to learning a bit more about the evil Watcher who had subjugated them. They learn of a healer and befriend her, leaving the Watcher to her care. They send for the American gargoyles including Ankit and Ethan, the heroes of the series's first book, and along with them, they meet another more aggressive vampire society that is better adapted to the environment. The allies along with a fully restored virtuous Watcher battle the iniquitous Watcher while avoiding causing harm to those who had been brainwashed. Everyone goes back to their lives with the proviso of banding together for any future conflicts.
Earlier in the book, the writer shows readers the tenderer side of the burgeoning relationship between the gargoyles when Jashik's wing is broken. Aasim's care of him is truly lovely and it sets the stage for the horror they endure when the fighting gets going. Their concern for each other--the certainty they have that they cannot live without the other is touching in its beauty. The book is filled with delightful characters from the past books and the introduction to new, secondary characters that grow--adding to the narrative significantly. The world-building is wonderful as is the case with the previous two books of the series, and BL Maxwell was particularly crafty at furthering it with each successive book. Readers will not want this to be the last book.

I was so excited to hear that BL Maxwell would be writing another gargoyle book in her Stone series :)
GARGOYLES! Stone Hearts picks up after some of the events from Blood Beneath Stone when Jasik's wing was broken by Keir (Petro's vampire mate). Aasim, a fellow Guardian, helps take care of Jasik while his wounds heal and slowly finds himself falling in love with Jasik. Love between the two Guardians is something new and real as their dynamic shifts from friends, fighting partners, and mates. They were promised a lifetime of peace and happiness by their Watcher until something unexpected happens to shatter it.

BL Maxwell brought back very familiar and dear faces from her previous books and Book 3 is definitely action-packed and full adventure. Of course, like all of BL's books, there are humorous and romantic moments in Stone Hearts like the chickens! Great world building with gargoyles, vampires, creatures, allies, enemies, and evil bringing readers another action-packed Stone book! And like all great authors...she left the end open to the possibility of another Stone book! I loved the first two Stone books but Stone Hearts is definitely my favorite :)

*the author was kind enough to provide an ARC so this review is solely my own*

Living as humans

Finding love as a human and living that way after several lifetimes of being stone Gargoyles and defenders of the Citadel, would it be possible.

Aasim and Jashik, after fighting a battle where Jashik got seriously hurt with a broken wing they were offered a life of freedom and maybe happiness if they promised to come back and fight if they were called upon.

I loved this book as it had another battle to fight and showed that certain couples were living a human life and were happy. Would Aasim and Jashik have that in-depth happiness that others like Ankit have?

This series of books are different to anything I've ever read, and I've thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy.

Well written, great world-building, solid characters and story — and a HEA.

The narration from Allen Jeffries was clear and easy to listen to. Although, As usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.45 speed on audible, but I prefer all my audios to be quicker.

This pretty much fell in line with how I felt about the first two books in this series. It left me feeling rather underwhelmed. The set-up at the beginning was directly tied to an incident in Book 2 when Jashik’s wing is broken by Keir. However, there is a big disconnect. In Book 2, it’s a rather short scene and Jashik is healed very quickly by Jonna. But in this one, it’s dragged out over a few chapters and he’s in worse shape than what we had previously been lead to believe.
Aasim’s and Jashik’s romance was sort of sweet but it followed the same flowery repetitive pattern used in Petro’s and Keir’s story. Blah! It just grew tiresome.
The battle scene was a bit anticlimactical and rather humorous in a way. Everytime Jonna tried going after Yaqum, she’d state that he “was going to pay dearly” for his actions. Then he’d proceed to pretth much kick her ass. And then there’s Athira and her hoard (Jashik and Assim refer to her as Adira in the epilogue). She was really just a character of convenience, for what, to set up a future Book 4?
As I’ve said in my reviews for the first two books, I love gargoyes. So I did get a lot of enjoyment out of this series. But as far as good m/m paranormal stories go, these were just plain average.

THIS IS THE BE ALL END ALL

This is the third and final book in THE STONE SERIES. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this series. Jashik and Aasim are both gargoyle guardian protectors. Seeing their brothers in arms find their fated mates makes them realize that they've always been together. That neither had been drawn to another. They cared for each other but were they mates. This story is absolutely FANTASTIC. All the guardians are called back into service to face the biggest bad to date. Jonna is afraid to put her friends in danger, but this is bigger than all of them. They even find creatures that they thought before were mere legends. This book never slows down. This is just a wonderful enlightening collection. Each pairing was beautiful. Every couple is beautiful in their own bubble. I loved everything about this series. I can not recommended it highly enough. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did. BL MAXWELL Thank You for characters that really were a joy to read. This is pure excellence. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS AMAZING SURPRISING SERIES!!!!!!!!!!

I have really enjoyed this series. In this third book, the battles are finally over, and the gargoyles are released to seek peace and love where they may find it. Having no mates, Aasim and Jashik decide to stay together rather than live eternity alone. The way their comradeship developed into trust, friendship, and love was so sweet and heart-warming. Evil eventually rises again, and the gargoyles must come together to fight to keep the new lives they've made. An intriguing world and well-developed characters make this a fantastic series. There is danger and drama but also fun and laughter. It was great to see the characters from the first two books again. This would be a satisfactory end to the series, but I wouldn't mind if the author brought us more.😉.

This was a heart in the mouth read for me, I loved it😁😍. I'm a paranormal fan and this fits the bill with all manner of creatures. The author gives us an action filled plot of good versus evil and a blossoming deep romance which I enjoyed discovering along with our two main characters. The detail and imagination brought to life this story, it was fascinating learning about the different vampires and of course it's set up the next book where I think it's going to go. I loved the little goose and how protective he was of jaskik, it also gave it that funny little quirk to the story. Really enjoyed.
I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.

Recommended to read in order.
An good start to the beginning for Aasim and Jashik although Jashik has some healing to do after an vampire attack. Now that their time of fighting was over… for now that is and they needed to live and love and be free. Time jump forward into incoming trouble. Deceptions and danger happens and Jonna's life is at risk. The further I read the book gets better with the dramas happening. A great story although a few repeated information sneak in at the start. I loved the ending scenes, well written with the good vs the evil storyline. If you love dramas and action with a touch of romance this one will be for you.

Free your mind, and find your strength! Aasim and Jashik were given leave to go forth and enjoy life,by the Watcher. They wondered how to do that, but they were ready. Aasim helped care for Jashik when his wing was injured. Their friendship grew a bit more. They went forth and started to build a new life, until Jashik felt something was wrong, off. What followed was a whole lot of mess and trouble. Absolutely, excellent adventure. One last hurrah? Can they prevail? Are they truly alone? Can they handle new surprises? Is their foundation strong? I didn't want this story to end. Excellent job, well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I loved Stone Hearts by B.L. Maxwell. It's the third book in The Stone series. I loved Jashik and Aasim's story. Joanna is a great watcher and allows the guardians to live free lives between battles. When the dark watcher rises again to take control of all of the guardians and end Joanna's life, Jashik and Aasim go back to the citadel to fight for the continued rite to live free lives. There was lots of kissing, cuddling, and I love yous being said and one brief, not detailed sex scene at the end of the story.

This was a satisfying end to the trilogy & the overall story arc. I’ve really enjoyed this series and the different couples. I’d liked to have seen more of this couple’s relationship (it seemed rather in the background) but I still enjoyed it.

Jashik and Aasim

Can a relationship of trust and friendship grow into more? With their main mission completed they are told to go live in happiness. Easy right? What if you have no mate? But maybe they can be company for each other, or maybe more. So sweet and such a great wrap up for the series!
