Tally and the Angel: Book One India is a fun Middle school age children’s story by Eleanor Dixon. This is a wonderful paranormal fantasy, with adventure, mystery, danger, drama, a race against time, bravery, and more.
Tally inherits a necklace that holds a wonderful secret. The necklace is home to an Angel- and you guessed it- adventure awaits. When Tally discovers that children are being stolen, she feels she needs to do something about it. And so the adventure begins. She and her angel guide, Jophiel, find themselves pitted against the ‘bad guys’ in a race against time in order to save the day. I couldn’t help but become invested in the outcome and was rooting for her the whole way through.
This story may be aimed at a younger audience, but it is so charming that I feel it could be enjoyed by all ages!

Thank you, Eleanor Dixon!

This was such a fun read , it is a paranormal fiction book aimed at young adult readers (although any adults will probably enjoy it too!)

The world that the author has created is one that is painted vividly in the readers mind , it is extremely well written and takes the reader in the adventure with Tally (a wonderful character!) , and the little angel in her necklace! In this book you see Tally learn and grow from all the life experiences, she uses everything in her life to develop her character identity.

I would definitely recommend this book for readers who like paranormal books, who like character that you can see grow before your eyes and who like books where the plot keeps you hooked on it.

Tally and the Angel is the first book in the India series by Eleanor Dixon and is a book for kids 8-12 and family. Eleanor has beautifully written this paranormal fantasy tale and it will be liked by young and old. It is easy to picture the world and characters that Eleanor has woven due to her vivid writings, and you will be delightfully drawn into solving the mystery along with a brave little girl, Tally. This little gem is centred around Tally who is 13 years old and on a trip to India with a very special necklace. She soon finds herself in the midst of a mystery and sets out to help.

I look forward to the next adventure.

A sweet story about a girl and her father taking out on adventure after her mother’s death. Tally meets an angel to look over her, given to her by her mother. As Tally and her father start their journey in India she learns that the world is much different from what she has known. A great view of how we tend to make assumptions about things that are different to us and how we can help make a change. Tally begins the book as a naïve and somewhat spoiled young girl and grows to become a kind-hearted and brave hero to a whole city.

A whirlwind adventure

This was a whirlwind adventure with a guardian angel, kidnapped children, and a river demon set against the exotic backdrop of modern India. It was full of action, and I am certain that so many preteens will relate to the spunky, female lead character. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down, and I’m excited to order it as gifts for Christmas for upper middle grades children that I know. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment.

Tally is a thirteen year old girl who has just lost her mother, she is distraught even though she knew it was coming and her dad feels the same, but when he talks about a future without her, what he describes seems like the worse thing that could happen to Tally, he wants to leave her behind as a boarding student at her school, but she end up telling him exactly how awful it is there and why, she held back before so she wouldn't worry her mum, so when she asks her dad to take her with him, he agrees to consider it. After this conversation, he gives her a letter and a gift from her mum, in the letter Tally's mum tells her about what is in the box, it turns out that it is a pendant of the Angel Jophiel and that it will protect and guide her throughout her life until it is ready to be passed to someone else as it has been passed to her. All Tally wants to do is cry herself to sleep, but she is drawn to the small marble angel which looks so real, so she slips it over her head as she falls asleep and feels like she is surrounded by feathers as she sleeps.

As the time passes and she gets used to the idea of her changed circumstances, her dad tells her that she can go with him on his travels and continue her schoolwork as they go, he then tells her that he has been asked to go to India to help a colleague out and that they will leave in the morning, so Tally heads to her room to pack. As she is doing this, he thoughts go to her school friends and how she wants to rub it is]n that she doesn't have to go to school anymore, it is at this point that the Angel Jophiel begins to talk to her and adminish her for her thoughts and this is where their companionship and friendship start, he will answer whenever she calls to him, be in out loud or in her head and he will support and guide her as she explores the world with her dad.

Once all the arrangement are made, Tally and her dad set off for India, it is Tally's first time flying and she is more than excited and this stays that way when they land, they are met at the airport and taken to the house they will be staying in, this is where Tally meets her dad's friend and the lady who will be looking after them. After she unpacks, Tally walks round the garden and as she is talking to her Angel, she runs into a boy called Balvan who she talks to and invites to meet her dad when she mentions going to the Taj Mahal the next day. As the four talk, they find out about a case the local police are working on surrounding children going missing around India, so they are warned to take care and not go anywhere by themselves, but Tally is fine with this and agrees to it.

The next few days are taken up with schoolwork in the mornings and sightseeing in the afternoons, however, when she becomes embroiled in the mystery of the disappearing children, will she and Jophiel be able to solve the mystery in time to stop the plot, or will it be too late and the flood bear down on India? This is a charming tale of friendship and how it can heal hearts, as well as having a healthy dose of mystery solving which will keep you entertained all the way through.

This was truly a heartfelt story and beautifully written. I personally loved the story the background, the characters and how the story progressed.

Reading this I found it very touching and sweet as well as a book to shine light even for those of us who are facing the darkest times of our life.

The girl in the story who is named Tally, had recently lost someone very close to her and though she knew she needed to be strong in spirit, you could tell a heavy weight was being carried in her heart. (I had a strong relation to this as I too just suffered a great loss in my life and reading about Tally I often taught to myself that is how I feel...its hard, really hard, but you have to be strong and keep going on even if you don't know what you are going to face next because things feel so unknown.)

Through a surprise and yet beautiful inheritance of this necklace from her late mother, whom was the loss she was had recently experienced and was working though. I felt upon reading that Tally was immediately drawn to it. At that time there were reasons unknown. Further reading, I learned as well as Tally did that it contained a wonderful gift, an angel whom had the name of Jophiel.

Right away I got the sense of there's a reason to why Tally has an angel. But what was the reasons for this? I had to continue on to learn more.

Continuing on Tally realized she had to face a great adventure and she was basically destined for this task. There was an issue of the people and children of India being in undergoing danger. And Tally knew in her heart she had to help them and not stand by and allow this. Things happen for a reason and Tally felt she was chosen for this path as well as adventure and she wasn't going to let anything stop her from finishing her chosen role.

More reading, you could see how Strong of a character Tally was and is! She had to face dangers and uncertainty. There was powerful moments in the journey of the adventure Tally faced with Jophiel. Tally was and is a character that is very commendable and able to be a great role model for young children. Not only did she have to go thru grief, but also take on a task that was not only dangerous, but it was also a task not knowing what the true outcome would be. There was basically many tests and positive and negative occurrences that Tally and Jophiel faced. They did what they had to do in the end.

All in all, this was a beautiful and well written story. It was a impact and a great read, and I truly enjoyed this story from start to finish. I look forward very much to the next part. I will defiantly be getting a copy to read for myself.

Wonderful job to the author, who has written a very creative and well written story. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future!

'Tally and the Angel: Book One India' by Eleanor Dixon is a charming and deeply touching story that takes readers on an adventure filled with magic, discovery, and the complexities of grief. The story centers around Tally, a nearly thirteen-year-old girl who is coping with the recent loss of her mother. The narrative kicks off with her first flight and an exciting trip to India, a journey that becomes the catalyst for her self-discovery and healing.

Dixon skillfully captures the protagonist's emotional turmoil and excitement as Tally experiences the vibrancy of India for the first time. The sights, sounds, and cultural differences are vividly brought to life, creating an immersive backdrop for Tally's journey. The author does a remarkable job of portraying Tally’s struggle with loss, particularly the poignant moments of longing and the conflict between holding on and moving forward.

Central to the story is the mystical element introduced through the angel pendant, Jophiel, a gift from Tally's late mother. Jophiel is not just a symbol of comfort but becomes a guiding force, helping Tally navigate her emotions and the new challenges she faces. Dixon seamlessly blends the magical and the real, using the angel as a means to explore themes of friendship, kindness, and understanding.

The character development is compelling, especially Tally's evolution. From a grieving girl caught between her anger and sadness, she learns to embrace empathy, courage, and the beauty of the world around her. Her interactions with new friends in India, the local culture, and the enchanting yet mysterious presence of Jophiel all contribute to her growth.

Eleanor Dixon's narrative style is engaging, combining a sense of wonder with the depth of feeling. She balances the magical elements with the realities of Tally’s grief, making the story relatable for readers of all ages. The book also gently touches on broader themes such as the importance of cultural understanding, kindness, and the complexities of change.

'Tally and the Angel: Book One India' is a delightful and heartwarming read that offers both an emotional journey and a vibrant adventure. It's a story that will resonate with young readers and adults alike, reminding them of the power of hope, the magic of new experiences, and the comfort that can be found in unexpected places.

As a midgrade child, I was fascinated by books set in faraway lands. Thanks to some of those books I decided, later as an adult to spend as much time as possible on the road, discovering other cultures, languages and people from different - sometimes very far away - lands.

While reading Tally and the Angel by Eleanor Dixon I was took back to those times, when I immersed in worlds that looked mostly the product of literary imaginations than real places on the physical map. Nevertheless, I insisted to dream that one day I will visit them for sure. Sooner than later.

It happens that I have been in India before, the place where most of the action in the book one from the series is happening. However, in comparison with Tally, the brave young girl who is the main character in the book, I was not lucky enough to be supported by a real angel to get into serious investigations.

Trying to recover after the tragical death of her mother, Tally is moving to India with his father. With the help of Angel Jophiel - according to Kabbalah, the guardian of wisdom - she is about to discover where the kidnapped kids of India are gone.

Dixon is skilfully integrating elements of personal loss and suffering into a general - political and social narrative - through the eyes and actions of a young teenage girl. I was pleased by the natural, drama-free approach of loss, but also about the role of exposure to different cultures and approaches as part of an individual healing process. Growing up and stepping into adulthood means also acknowledging the power of good and evil and how those values may happen often to be inter-changeable.

In Tally and the Angel those - sometimes bitter - life lessons are not offered as a lecture, but part of the individual development of the characters and the general book action. I was particurly pleased also by the local descriptions set in India and I am looking forward to the next installments in the series.

The chapters are short, concise enough for the limited attention span of the nowadays teenagers, and the discrete visual snapshots are an attractive adornment for the readers´ eyes.

Cute middle school age about what's right and wrong, and someone having your back

A cute book about finding inner strength as well as having someone help you be true to yourself and good to others. Includes a mystery storyline.

While there is an Angel involved and there's little snippets of its journey to get to today, this book is not overtly religious, which I appreciated. The setting here is mostly in India, so the novel gives facts about the country as well as the Hindi language, culture/style, and religion.

I enjoyed the fact that it seems that each character we meet has some character trait that they're working on. For example, Tally is just a middle schooler who's growing up and learning to be a good person, and her dad is trying do good in the world while also being there for his daughter after the passing of his wife/her mom.

I thoroughly appreciate the obvious research that went in to bringing the Indian culture and architecture to life on the page. I love ancient architecture and art and you can tell that the author did their due diligence in the background and representing it authentically for the young readers.

Content warning included in this paragraph: I would label this novel as upper middle school and recommend that parents be willing and able to have discussions with their child about what is read. There is a bit of a mystery theme to this novel as children have gone missing and I think it would be important to know how the child(ren) can handle mature themes like kidnapping and child labor.

The first book in the Tally and the Angel series written by Author Eleanor Dixon, introduces our young female protagonist, Tally, whose life changes when she suffers a bereavement, and inherits a pendant. A pendant with an extraordinary secret. As Tally and her father attempt to rebuild their lives and follow her mother’s wishes to be happy, they embark on a journey to India where Tally, through her friendship with Balvan is drawn into danger, as they attempt to locate some missing children.

A beautifully descriptive and engaging tale for middle grade readers which pulls its audience into the story from the very beginning and keeps the pages turning. The characters and dialogue are both realistic and credible, especially the way in which the Angel Jophiel interacts and guides Tally along the way. The story moving along at a good pace and keeps the reader invested in Tally’s journey and the challenges she faces not only on a physical level, as she attempts to rescue the kidnapped children, but on an emotional and spiritual level.

My only observation and critique is in relation to some of the very brief statements relating to the Angel Jophiel, at the beginning of the chapters. Whilst beautifully written, at times I did feel they were a little too deep and heavy for the target audience, to fully understand, and appreciate. However, in no way did this detract from the main story itself, and as an adult reader, they brought the Angel Jophiel to life.

Overall an enjoyable read, and so we award 4 stars.

Tally and the Angel is the first book in a cute middle-grade children’s contemporary series.
Tally is gifted a pendant by her mother, but it is not just any pendant, it has an angel living in it! Tally believes having her very own angel is great and cannot wait to take him on her trip to India with her father.
Once in India, she learns of children being kidnapped in the city of Agra, that they are staying in. With the help of her angel Jophiel and a few friends along the way, she begins to solve the mystery of who is taking the children and what has happened to them.
I think the author did a great job of using words that middle-grade readers could understand and relate to. As an adult, even I was excited to find out how the book concluded and what the answer to the mystery was.
I would highly recommend this book, not only for young middle-grade readers but for adults too. It was a fun book that includes mystery, adventure, friendship, bravery and so much more! The author really makes you feel like you are a part of the adventure and wants you to keep reading to find out what happens.
I cannot wait to read where the next adventure is for Tally and Jophiel!

Imagine suffering the worse loss of your life, the death of the person you loved the most. Then, try to picture the surprise and elation you might feel when you discover an angel living inside a pendant that belonged to that person who passed. This angel would become your best friend, traveling with you and solving mysteries with you. What a comfort it would be to have an angel as a friend! This is the scenario Eleanor Dixon creates in "Tally and the Angel: Book One India." Of course, this lovely and adventurous story can't be maintained or else there wouldn't be much to review! Tally puts herself in harm's way when she discovers the magnificent city of Agra, India is in danger of being destroyed by a flood. Now the angel in her pendant, Jophiel is in a race against time to save Tally and hundreds of other children. Will he able to? What will happen if he does? Will Agra be saved from the raging floodwaters? Will he stay with Tally? A truly delightful story for any age that will leave you looking for your own angel!

What a fun adventure story!! This book is geared towards middle grades, ages 7-12, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult!

We meet Tally at a really bad time in her life. She's just lost her precious mother, whom she loves so dearly. Before taking a trip, her dad gifts her with a pendant. In that pendant lives a guardian angel named Jophiel. Tally is thinking that she's going to be sent away to boarding school but instead talks her dad into letting her join him on his journey to India. It's there that Tally makes two really great friends but they had no idea the horrible adventure that awaited them!

I LOVED this book!! There is mystery and adventure, cultural changes, grief and loss, as well as bravery and compassion in this book. I devoured this book pretty quickly as it was just that exciting! My heart broke for Tally and honestly, I struggled reading this book because I too, just lost my mom recently. I love how this book focuses on having a friend(s) nearby to help in times of sadness. This would be a great book for summer reading!!

Tally and the Angel is a cute story geared for 7-12-year-old children. Eleanor Dixon did an amazing job writing this story. The level of detail allows readers to really visualize the story. The plotline has the elements of fantasy, mystery, adventure, and bravery. The characters are enchanted. This is the story of Tally and her very own Angel. Tally received a pendant after the saddest day (her mom’s death), it has the Angel Jophiel living inside it. One would think that having an angel with you would be awesome, but Tally learns that it is not always the best gift. The adventure that you take with Tally and Angel Jophiel has some twists and turns, ups and downs, and some scary stuff they get into. Will Tally and Angel Jophiel be able to enjoy the adventure? Can Tally and Angel Jophiel stay focused on the positive side of things or will there be some bad things that they cannot overcome? I highly recommend this book as I found it an interesting story.

This is a great story. Tally, a 13-year-old from England accompanies her father to travel the world after the death of her mother. Wearing the pendant her mother always wore, she discovers it houses an ancient angel who helps guide the wearer toward intelligence and reasoned judgement. It's a good thing too, because Tally is a brave girl who can't sit idly by when she learns that children are being stolen in the city she is staying in. She'll need every bit of that smarts and reason to tackle some serious bad guys and and have the courage to seek justice for them.

This is a fun book with lots to keep the reader entertained. Anyone who's been an underestimated kid will be rooting for Tally and cheering for her success. That's not to say she isn't scared - of course she is! But she chooses to act anyways, which is the mark of a true hero.

Tally, a brave, strong and intelligent 13 year old, is devastated at the death of her mother. But when her father gives her a gift left behind for her, she discovers she's received so much more than a pendant. Inside the pendant lives an angel! Tally sets off around the world with her father, angel in tow. But when she uncovers a kidnapping plot to take over India, she steps out of her comfort zone to save the children.

A great read, however, I do think some of the themes would be a little deep for children on the younger end of the target age range(8-12). I think some of the angel/demon/god talk might be confusing for the younger reader. I am looking forward to reading the 2nd installment. Tally is a loveable main character. 4/5 stars

I can’t say enough good things about Tally and the Angel by Eleanor Dixon. I ventured way outside my comfort zone when I chose to read this. I’m very glad I did. I got way more than I bargained for. Tally and the Angel is a great story, with strong characters, and excellent descriptions of the places Tally visits. I felt like I was there in India and the Taj Mahal. Eleanor Dixon gives a lot of opportunities for the reader to learn compassion, empathy, choosing between right and wrong, especially for younger readers. I plan to read this to my kids soon, I think they’ll really enjoy it! I can not wait to see where Tally and the Angel go on their next adventure. I highly recommend it for every age!

Tally and the Angel by Eleanor Dixon is a brilliant book for younger and older readers alike! When our protagonist, Tally, finds a piece of jewelry that once belonged to her mother, she realizes that it is actually a home for the angel Jophiel. With Jophiel’s help, Tally embarks upon adventures solving problems with her new best friend. Tally is a great character for young readers to love as she displays intelligence and tenacity along her missions. The author’s descriptions of India are magical. I very much recommend this book and will be adding it to my daughter’s collection for her to enjoy as she grows. This is the second book I have read from this author, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet. 4 out of 5 stars.

This book would be perfect for kids that love geography and learn about other countries of the world. I appreciated how the author, Eleanor Dixon, mentions death and grief in a realistic way. The book follows Tally as she solves the mystery of how to save not only her best friends sister, but numerous other children. I love how Eleanor interweaves some historical cultural icons of India throughout the story (feeling less forced than some other series), such as clothing, multiple deities, etc.

You can tell the author has actually visited India, because the descriptions are authentic in feel and a joy to read. Even as an adult, I enjoyed reading about Tally's adventure and can't wait to see what problems she solves in Canada (book 2) and Japan (book 3).

Tally is a young teenager who just lost her mother. She is given a necklace from her mother with an angel pendant on it. The angel’s name is Jophiel. He is kind of like a guardian angel to Tally as she and her father embark on a trip to India. Tally is excited because she will be homeschooled and gets to travel with her father. She is looking forward to new adventures. She finds herself on a new and dangerous adventure once they are settled in their new city. She and her new friend, Balvan, try to figure out the case of the missing girls. Learn true facts about India as you read about some of the trouble that finds Tally. I liked the characters in the book. Jophiel is a wonderful character because he reminds her to be a good person and if she strays, he tends to get her back on the path

Tally and the Angel : Book One India by Eleanor Dixon
4 out of 5 stars
Book One in this series was fabulous. This was adorable. Little Tally finds herself befriending an Angel in the most unusual way. This should be amazing, right? But will this angel keep Tally from finding trouble, repeatedly? The short answer is No. Tally and her Angel will find themselves in a race to save themselves and hundreds of kidnapped children from a fate worse than chores.
This is a super sweet book. Targeted for kids ages 8-12, this is a fantastic fantasy book for the early reader. Dixon has masterfully created a world that the young mind can take and build into their own. A very fun 4 of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this fantasy story. This is a well written story about Tally and her Angel. She believes that having an angel with her things couldn’t go wrong. Until she realizes that it doesn’t seem to matter as she finds herself in danger and in a race against time. She took me on a fun, entertaining adventure where she will find courage and strength. She made such a great character. She is relatable and I really enjoyed what she brought to the story. The secondary characters are just as fun and entertaining. They brought the story to life and took me on a fun adventure. This is a great fantasy story that I am happy I picked up. I highly recommend this book.

A child should never have to lose their mother at such a young age. Tally is a strong young girl that receives pendant that has an angel living inside of it and it changes Tally's life. Tally ends up leaving her school and her dad takes her to India to give her more experience then inside the four walls of her school. Tallys journey is such a wild adventure that she gets into some crazy predicaments but with the help of her angel she can get through anything. Cant she? Will she save all the kidnaped children? Dixon has a very enjoyable writing style and I cant wait to get my hands on the next book.

Tally and the Angel: Book One India by Eleanor Dixon is a fun and entertaining fantasy story. I would say this book is intended for younger audiences but has been well written enough than it will appeal to more.
I really enjoyed reading about Tally and the Angel. Their friendship was so heartwarming and felt to me like the whole book was built around this. Their journey felt real and engaging. I was drawn into their story and enjoyed every step of it.
This is a new author to me but I really got on with her writing style. It had an easy flow to it and I found it really easy to get into. This was a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Tally and the Angel by Eleanor Dixon is a heartfelt story. The writing is beautiful and I’m happy I had the chance to read! Touching and sweet, and the kind of book to read when you need a pick-me-up.
Tally is a very relatable character. What she is going through and how she handles it really struck me. She is so strong and inspiring.
This plot is unique and engaging with a character that you want to follow. I recommend giving this a read.

Tally and the Angel is a cute and inspiring story with mystery, friendship, life lessons and some fantasy thrown in. It's a great story that any young reader would enjoy. Tally is such a sweet girl who has just had a heartbreaking experience and now has to adjust to her new life, she shows such bravery and strength as she tries to solve the mystery in India with her angel. I enjoyed learning more about Jophiel and watching his and Tally's friendship grow. I loved how even an ancient being like Jophiel could learn and be inspired by a young girl who only wants to do what's right which is sometimes not always easy to do or understand.

This book was one simple word Amazing! A perfect paranormal fantasy, with danger, bravery, drama, mystery, and more. Tally is our main character, and being a teenage girl who just lost her mother, your heart just breaks for her. Until she is given her angel pendant and then everything changes. There is just so much packed into this short book, but the author did a phenomenal job pulling their readers in and then keeping them on a roller coaster ride full of drama, mystery, and a race against time until the very last page. I personally loved this book so much that I can't wait to read the next one.
