The Secret Love Letters of Oliva Moretti by Jennifer Probst is a 2022 Berkley publication.

More like this one, please!!

Priscilla, Devon and Bailey- three sisters who have been somewhat estranged over the years are stunned by the death of their mother, Olivia.

As they gather to put her affairs in order, they make a startling discovery. Olivia owns a house in Italy, and she has been exchanging letters with a man who signed his name with only one initial- ‘R’.

Needing to tie up all the loose ends of their mother’s property the three bickering sisters travel to Italy hoping to find the mysterious ‘R’ and discover what his relationship to Olivia really was.

Meanwhile, the sisters each recognize and own their own individual issues, which might work to heal old wounds between them and bring them back to the closeness they once shared.

This is a just an all-around lovely story about life, love, family and the bonds of sisterhood. The story alternates between Olivia as a young woman, staying with her aunt in Italy while her parents are on the cusp of divorce. There she meets Rafe and the two become friends, and then fall in love. Over the years they exchange letters which also give the reader more clues as to what happened between the two star crossed lovers.

Meanwhile, the sisters are given individual voices, as well a collective one- Pris is dealing with unrealized dreams and a stale marriage, while Dev, a strong woman who relishes organization, structure, and her work, goes up against her sister, Bailey, who is the opposite.

The two can’t get along for two seconds, and each is harboring a load of pain as a result…

I loved this story so much! Why, why, why can’t we have more books like this one?? I loved the distinct personalities of the three sisters, and who doesn’t love a story set in Italy?? I loved the romance, the secrets that were revealed, the work the women did to better themselves and get rid of the things that made them miserable and were finally able to talk through their differences. There is strong character growth, fun and heartwarming moments and lots of healing and forgiveness!

Overall, this book was so, so, so, SOOOO refreshing!!

Oh, what a heart breaker this one is! It's been a while since a book pushed all my buttons as this one did. I read the final pages wiping tears and wondering "what if". Needless to say, The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti is an emotional, heart touching read that deals with events from both the past and present. I love the way Probst pulls readers in by allowing them to read the love letters from "R" as Olivia reads them in the past and the sisters read them in the present. I'm going to be vague about most of this, because the beauty of the story for me was the unknown . . . the promise hanging in the air that love will prevail in spite of all. And in many ways, I guess it does.

The Secret Love Letters of Oliva Moretti is a beautifully rendered story of three estranged sisters discovering decade-old love letters written to their mother when they gather at the house to clean out their mother's possessions after her sudden passing. Old wounds, hurt feelings and grudges among the sisters are still raw, causing tempers to flare and nit-picky arguments to fester. When they discover the love letters hidden in a trunk in the attic, they also find a deed in their mother's name for a home on the coast of Italy. They're stunned. No one had a clue their mother owned a home in Italy. The sisters realize they'll have to smooth hurt feelings between them and band together to uncover the secret their mother kept hidden her whole life. Each sister is carrying secrets of their own, but each one slaps on a smiley face, buries her feelings and anger - yet again - and off to Italy they go. Their mission is to find the house . . . and reveal the identity of the mysterious man who signed longing, highly emotional love letters to their mother with a "R".

The Secret Love Letters of Oliva Moretti is a highly emotional, gut-wrenching story of love and what happens when fate steps in to send soul mates on different paths in life. It touches on different types of love and the roles they play over one's lifetime. It speaks of love and loss, hard decisions and sacrifice. It speaks of truth and trust and learning when to hold on and when to let go. Three sisters travel to Italy in search of the truth of who their mother really was - the "woman" vs. the "mother" they grew up loving. During their time spent there, hard truths spill out causing each sister to take a long, hard look at their own life and relationship with their siblings. Readers are privy to each sister's thoughts and feelings which makes this story extremely intimate and personal. And the heart wrenching love letters take it all to another level. From the characters to the plot line to the setting to the pace, The Secret Love Letters of Oliva Moretti is first class all the way. The highs, lows and overwhelming emotion of this thing called love . . . and what one will sacrifice for it is front and center in this book. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it to readers everywhere.
A big thank you to Berkeley Publ. and Valentine Pr for an arc of this book.

The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti by Jennifer Probst is a women’s fiction title that comes with some mystery, some romance and some historical time in the past. The story is also told by changing the point of view between the characters.

Priscilla, Devon, and Bailey are sisters that grew apart and now have to come together after the death of their mother. As they are going through their mother’s things the sisters find a deed to a home located on the Amalfi Coast.

Looking to learn more about their mother and her history Priscilla, Devon, and Bailey travel to Positano, Italy to find the property that they now own. The sisters all want answers to their mother’s past and why there are love letters from a man only known as R among her things too.

The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti is the first book I’ve read by author Jennifer Probst so I wasn’t sure what to expect but being a fan of exotic settings I had to give this a shot. After reading I was so glad that I had taken a chance on this title as I fell immediately into the story and enjoyed my time in Italy. The mystery of the past and the secrets uncovered blended well with the familial relationship and issues in the present and the pages turned quickly as I devoured the story. Definitely would return to this author again in the future.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Emotional family story with a great love affair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The pull of a good women’s fiction story is definitely strong with this delightful novel. This is a story that blends in so many different pieces but the strongest addresses deep love and family ties.
With amazing descriptions of this delightful seaside village, tender love affairs, and a deep love that crosses the ocean and decades of time, we are introduced to Olivia and her sweetheart. We meet her daughters and learn her story through the letters too.
Probst kills us with her emotion filled letters that more than once had me reaching for my tissues. My heart was breaking and it still kills me knowing what occurred. But with the discovery of the letters and the travels of her daughters comes the enlightenment of the soul – for them and the reader.
The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti is not just a women’s fiction story with a romance attached. It is a story for the ages that will stay with you just as long.
The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti is my first book that I’ve read from author, Jennifer Probst. And I now realize that I have been missing out on some excellent writing.
The story is told from multiple points of view and 2 timelines, beginning with Olivia, then each of her 3 daughters — Priscilla, Devon, and Bailey. Each character seems so real and relatable; and for me, I could just see myself as Pris and see Dev in my own sister. Olivia’s character stirred a lot of questions in my mind. Like did I really know my late mother as much as I thought? And was there anything that my mother kept from me and my siblings before she passed?
The family relationships really hit home with me as I could empathize with Pris’ and her husband, Garrett’s marital struggles and how we really need to work at keeping a marriage alive. That real and honest communication is so important in keeping that spark bright. Seems that Probst has been there, done that…
The narrative is smooth and the transitions to different points of view are well defined. The author deftly crafted a moving and emotional novel full of love and family connections. Five heartfelt stars.
-When I was around him, it was like magic. Was this what love was supposed to feel like? If so, it was too much to feel all these things. It was too...dangerous.
-It was as if his touch had seeped not only into my skin but into my blood and caused this need. I wondered if I'd ever be the same or if he'd ruined me for everyone afterward.
-It was always his eyes that haunted me-dark and sooty, full of warmth and a love that had always been fully for me.
Italy….the food…the people…the gorgeous landscapes. What a find.
What did these three estranged sisters find?
They found love letters in their mother’s things and a deed to a house in Positano, Italy.
They had to find out what it all meant, and they made a trip to Italy. They found the house in perfect shape because their mother had hired a local man for the job.
THE SECRET LOVE LETTERS OF OLIVIA MORETTI goes back-and-forth telling us what Olivia’s time in Italy was about and what her daughters learned on their visit to Italy.
Will they solve the mystery about their mother’s letters?
Will they discover what they need to know about their mother’s life and about themselves?
Such an enjoyable book with a setting you won’t want to leave.
The descriptions and the characters will stay with you.
Women's fiction fans and fans of Italy will love this book. 5/5
ENJOY!! 5/5
OMG, well, Jennifer Probst owes me for the bucket of tears I just unloaded all over my beautiful paperback copy of this book. It had been quite a few years since I last read her work, with her Marriage to a Billionaire series, which I remember really enjoying. And when I read the blurb to this book, I could not resist!
What an amazing story of lifelong love, taking risks, and overcoming regret.
When Olivia Moretti passes away, her three estranged daughters are left to go through her belongings where they find an old chest containing love letters from long ago, from a man who is not their father.
A quest for answers leads them on a journey to Positano, Italy to track down their mother’s mysterious ex-lover and to find out who she really was.
This was hands down my top read in February, if not all year so far. It’s told in alternating POVs between Olivia in the past and her daughters in the present. I was swept up into this story completely and it did not let go of me until the last word.
It’s a beautiful emotional journey about love, life, and the sacrifices we make for the people we love. It did have some lighthearted moments too. Hawke and Lucifer’s addition to the book were so needed!! I loved watching these sisters mend their relationship and reform their bond together in Positano.
I highly recommend this story to all epic romance lovers!
Priscilla, Devon and Bailey.
Three not very close sisters who just lost their mother and who are now cleaning out the old family home.
What they find is way more interesting than the old junk they were expecting.
They find out mommy Olivia owned a house in Italy and they find a bunch of old love letters from a guy called R.
They never heard about a house in Italy or an old boyfriend.
But what if he's not an old one? Maybe they reconnected after, or even before the divorce to the sisters' dad?
And even though they're all super busy with their own lives, they decide to investigate.
Off we go to Italy to find R. and to find out who their mother really was.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE THREE LADIES?
AND WHO IS THIS R GUY?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! 😎
I really loved this.
I was afraid I wasn't going to like it, because I'm not the biggest Women's Fiction fan. And I am also not a fan of too many POVs and too many back-in-time chapters in books. And we get all that here. But I still loved the story!
It's all so very heartbreaking! Why didn't R. & Olivia end up happily ever after? Ugh! So sad! And it really made me hate Olivia a bit. Poor R.! I wanted him to get this amazing happily ever after with Olivia. Maybe he got it? With somebody else? We might find out by the end of the book.
I really enjoyed reading this! We get to hear and feel all the problems and hopes and dreams of the sisters and of course we read about the mom's past. It's all so very sweet and sad and hopeful and hopeless. 🤣
I really wouldn't mind seeing this on TV one day!
It's already almost a movie in your head - all those beautiful places and the food and the wine and ugh... I wanted to be there with them and smell and taste all the things!
THE SECRET LETTERS OF OLIVIA MORETTI was such a beautiful story about family, forgiveness, the past, the present, the future, Italy, love, grief, pain, hope ... all the things. READ IT!
I wanted to like this book. It seems like anything set in Positano, Italy should have been great. However, it wasn't. I found the characters to be undeveloped, unlikeable and unrelatable. I couldn't empathize with any of them, other than maybe Rafe, but he was such a sappy pushover that it was unrealistic. I also had a difficult time with the author's portrayal of the 1970s scenes/flashbacks. It was like a bunch of modern-era Millennials got transported back in time. I'm sorry, but anyone who was alive in the mid- to late-70s only used the word "amazing" for things that were truly amazing...not to describe pasta or someone's outfit. And I am pretty sure we didn't wear capri pants. The lack of historical attention to detail was disappointing. I'm sorry I invested the time.
**Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley for providing me with a free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
Hard pass on the body shaming and stereotypes of women.
It's clear from the other reader's reviews that this was a much-loved book, but sadly, it just wasn't for me.
Initially I was loving the flashbacks of Olivia Moretti's summers spent in Italy, especially as I began to really dislike her three daughters. By the time I realized I wasn't loving the book as much as I thought I might, I was too far in to give up... hoping it would get better. It did not.
I never connected with her daughters. Dev, Pris, and Bailey didn't seem like fully-formed characters; rather, they all seemed a bit petty and unlikeable. And there were far too many mentions of weight and food, especially during the Italy scenes.
I had high hopes for this book when Dev said: "There's nothing wrong with carbs. They took something women love and spun it so it was evil. The world is always afraid we'll rise to complete power if we figure out our bodies are perfect just how they are."
But then the author decided to follow up that bold statement with body-shaming statements, like:
"They'd definitely be returning home next week with more curves. Especially if they rented those scooters and began to skip the stairs."
"I need to dance off some calories."
Here's a message: You do not need to earn your food in order to enjoy it!
And then there was this gem:
"'Shopping. I've got an American Express Gold I need rewards on so it's my treat today. Anything goes.' Her sister tried not to show her interest, but she was female."
Barf. Honestly, after revisiting these highlights I made, I'm mad at myself for not DNFing this one.
Olivia Moretti had passed away a few months ago and her daughters are going through her things when they stumble upon a chest at the back of her closet with letters enclosed in it and a deed to a home in Positano Italy that they knew nothing about. These letters are from a mystery man that was supposed to meet their mom in Italy for her 65th Birthday in May, which she never made it to because she had passed a couple of months before.
Pris, Dev, and Bailey decide to make the trek to Positano and find out who this mysterious man is and sell the house, but as you know nothing ever goes as planned. There were so many things I loved about this story, first and foremost it was almost as if we were gifted two stories because we travel back in time and get first hand knowledge of Olivia's relationship with "R" AND we get to see how her daughters try to find who "R" is and what they uncover about their mom, and themselves along the way.
This story was a little bittersweet for me, the backdrop for this emotional read is Positano Italy and it was written in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. If you follow me on Social Media you may remember that I was scheduled to travel to Sorrento Italy in April of 2020 but everything had closed down in March and my son had returned home from attending school there, I had also come down with COVID so our travel plans never happened. But with this story and the vivid descriptions of Positano and Sorrento I felt as if I was right there with Priscilla, Devon, and Bailey. I still plan on visiting sometime in the future but for now I feel as if I know the beautiful town along the Amalfi Cost.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Women's Fiction, Secret Romances, or Destination Romances.
Happy Reading!!!
THE SECRET LOVE LETTERS OF OLIVIA MORETTI is my first time reading Jennifer Probst’s Women’s Fiction novels. I was intrigued by the concept of these three estranged sisters who travel to the Amalfi Coast to learn more about their mother’s past.
I found this book to be well-written and easy to follow. I also really enjoyed reading the different points of views from the three women. However, I will say that I definitely had my favorite when it came to them. I think that’s one of the great things about having so many leading heroines; you’re bound to relate to at least one of them.
Their journey was one that I found fascinating and I enjoyed seeing them become close despite their different personalities. If you’re looking for a good Women’s Fiction novel with a satisfying end, then I would definitely recommend this one. As a result, I’m looking forward to reading more of Jennifer Probst’s Women’s Fiction books in the future.
Thank you Valentine PR for an arc in exchange for a review! This book instantly reminded me of a book I’d want to read on vacation. This book is filled with a lot of family drama, a beautiful emotional story, mystery, and flashbacks to the past. Priscilla, Devon and Bailey were very relatable and filled with that sister drama you love! Her book sort of gave me Jill Shalvis vibes. If you want to be swept away to Italy then give this one a go!
Pris, Devon, and Bailey's mother, Olivia, has unexpectedly died from pneumonia and left behind some juicy family secrets. For starters, the girls find out their mother had a cottage on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Along with the deed to the house, they find love letters to her mother from "R." The letters detail their love affair as well as a promise made that on Olivia's 65th birthday, they would meet up again. Sadly, Olivia never made it. So, the three sisters, even though they aren't currently very close, decide to drop everything and go see this house and try to figure out who their mother's secret lover is. The women question how well they knew their mother; meanwhile, they have their own problems to sort out in The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti by Jennifer Probst.
The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti
Written by: Jennifer Probst
The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti left me feeling emotions I haven’t felt for a long time. I became involved in the story; in many parts I felt the emotions the characters were feeling and there were definitely parts of this story I could relate to.
A young Olivia spent a wonderful summer in Positano, Italy and met a very handsome Italian man, Rafael Sartori and thus began an epic love story for both characters. Their summer love continued to grow over several summers but distance and personal growth ended up with them going in separate directions.
Priscilla, Devon and Baily, sisters who had been close but who had over time drifted away from each other. Any closeness was gone and now their job was to go through their mother Olivia’s personal belongings after she suddenly passes away. They find a trunk with love letters written over a four-year period and the deed to a house in Italy. It is these letters that began the journey these three sisters take to Italy and Positano, to find the house she had there and hopefully find out more about their mother.
Jennifer Probst takes not just Pris, Dev and Bailey on a journey, she brings their stories of growth and truths to intertwine with Olivia’s letters and memories.
Are all their questions answered? Did they have a better understanding of their mother when their journey was over? Were hearts healed and love found?
Did they ever find R. and learn who their mother really was?
Like Pris, Dev and Bailey, readers need to take this beautiful journey to find the answers we are all looking for.
My thanks to Net Galley and Berkley Books for the opportunity of reviewing this book. The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti is Now Live.
The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti
4 stars
This is my first book by Jennifer Probst and it definitely won’t be the last! I really enjoyed this women’s fiction novel about love, loss and the strength of family.
While cleaning out their mother’s house after her death, sisters Devon, Priscilla and Bailey find more than what they expected. Hidden in an old trunk in the back of their mother’s closet is a stack of old love letters from someone named ‘R’ and a deed to a house in Positano, Italy that no one knew existed. The sisters decide to travel to the Amalfi Coast to unravel the mystery of ‘R’ and discover who their mother really was.
This was a beautifully written and deeply touching story about the choices we make and how they affect not only us, but the people we love. The story is told in dual timelines with multiple POV’s (each of the sisters and their mother, Olivia) which I loved. Each sister dealt with their grief differently, while also juggling their own love lives and the hurt feelings and old grudges amongst them. Their impromptu trip to Italy was supposed to help them uncover some of the secrets their mother was keeping but to also help bring the formerly estranged sisters together.
There is a lot of love in these pages that also comes with a lot of heartbreak. This beautifully crafted story had me frantically turning pages and reaching for the tissues by the end. I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary women’s fiction and clean romance. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Valentine PR for the advanced copy to read and review.
Pretty much a combo of the other four books I read this year that take place in Italy (I’m obsessed lol).
I loved the structure of the book — it went back and forth between telling the present story from each of the sister’s perspectives and the past story of their mother. However, it felt like the present story progressed a bit slow, and the book was overall very predictable (and I wasn’t a fan of the ending).
Especially similar to One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle but more heartbreaking.
The dialogue is trite and silly. The historical facts are not consistent with the timeframe and frankly the storylines of all characters are just not engaging. Did not enjoy - in fact, couldn’t wait for the audiobook to end.
5 Star review of The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti by Jennifer Probst
I was intrigued when I read the blurb for The Secret Letters if Olivia Moretti. Having read a number of books by Jennifer Probst I knew reading a book told in multiple points of view would be entertaining.
Three sisters, estranged take a trip to the Amalfi Coast to find out more about their mother. Priscilla, Devon, and Bailey haven't been close for years but after their mother’s death they come together to settle her affairs and that is when their journey begins.
Finding the deed to a house on the Amalfi Coast and an intriguing letter they decide to visit and search for the answers they need. This journey will affect all three in different ways and secrets will be reveled. Will it bring them together or will it rip them apart once and for all?
This book was well written, with story lines that will draw you in and refuse to let you go until the last chapter is read. The journey each sister embarked on was enlightening and heart warming and made for a wonderful read. .
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
4.5!!! very close to a 5 star read for me but some of the jokes & verbiage used was a bit cheesy. The ending had me sobbing & all in my feels. I thought the message of the book was beautiful & it didn’t feel like a cheesy romance. The love felt real & raw. I think the author did a good job displaying dynamic relationships & love both romantically & with family.
I am a sucker to love lost & missed connections. Give me a realistically sad love story any day
Okay but now I want to take a trip to Positano Italy!
Another amazing family drama from Jennifer Probst!
I love Jennifer Probst’s writing style, regardless of it’s her traditional romances or these new family drama stories. Her depictions of the complexities of family, both those we are born into and those we create by choice, are so beautiful! And while this story of sisterhood may not have the same spice level of her traditional romance, it is absolutely still just as emotional, intimate, and moving!
I can’t wait to travel with JP and her characters again soon!
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narrators did a great job. The story was good with a long lost love from time spent with summers in Italy. Three sisters trying to find information about their mom when they travel to Italy to a house left to them by their aunt. Past hurts between sisters that need forgiving. New loves and healing with old loves. I really enjoyed the characters and how it all played out.
Three sisters, Priscilla, Devon and Bailey have not been close. They have to get together to settle their Mother's estate. They found papers in an old trunk that described a home in Positano , Italy.
The Girls decided to fly to Italy to check out this home on the Amalfi Coast and the mystery person. who sighed letters with an "R". They finally found him. He had kept all the letter their mother had sent to him. Upon hearing of their Mother's death he became very distraught. The plan had been to meet on her birthday. He and her daughters sat down and began to talk.
I want to thank Penguin House for sending me this ARC book.
Definitely one to love or hate. Everything ties together too conveniently, but sometimes a person needs some words and some lessons to just ground their life, put everything into perspective. Does that make sense?
4.5 ⭐️ As I’m traveling to Italy in a few weeks, I’ve been very into reading books set in Italy and I loved this book so much! The setting in Positano was beautiful, loved the character development of the sisters and I liked that the book went back and forth in time with their mother’s POV. Definitely a tearjerker and made me want to go call my mom immediately.
Atmospheric, beautiful, and heartbreaking. I loved sipping wine and reading this one on the porch in the summer. I had a good cry at the end. I will read this one again someday.
