In the seasons of our lives, we tend to wilt with sadness, blossom with hope, and bloom with love. “Laughing with my Hair Up” is a collection of poems centered around loss, emotional abuse, and the reflection of life’s cruelties. Its chapters, like our journeys, mirror a flower’s existence. We are one with the earth,and we are built to withstand the wind and rain.

Laughing with my hair up is a poetry book that talks about heartbreak, loss and trauma. It’s divided into three parts: the Mourning, Reflecting and the Morning. The author describes her pain and her experiences, the emotional and physical toll of what she went through.
She writes well-put and thought-provoking poems that will make you feel and relate to the words on these pages.
More than speaking of personal experience, Hannah Pearl writes about all kind of topics, things that will make you pause and even reread the poem because of how accurate they are or how deep those words sync in or move something inside you.
I really enjoyed this book and if you like poetry, I definitely recommend it.

When I tell you
I’m tired of being nice,

Laughing With My Hair Up is a poetry book by Hannah Pearl which talks about loss, abuse and trauma from her own personal experience. Divided into three parts; the Mourning, Reflecting and the Morning, this heart touching book will not only make you view the poet's experiences through her own eyes, but also relates your own because everyone, sadly, goes through some form of trauma and even though it might not be specific to your experiences, the familiarity in the words will make you grieve for your own. I can say this because while reading certain poems I could relate and grieve over my own experiences.
But it's also about fighting and striving for survival when you think you're at your lowest of lows which is well explained in 'the Morning'. Something can hit you so hard you don't want to get back up, but you have to.
Overall, a few writings that aren't up to the standard this book has set but for the most part it's well written and would appeal to all poetry lovers out there.
and if you
are reading this,
in between pillow soaked tears
and beer brewed evenings,
you’ll see it-
the proof needed
in finding the
will to dream big.
(Added this because it's such a perfect ending; or in this case the first steps to a hopeful beginning!)

Firstly, I'd like to thank the author for gifting me a copy of her debut poetry collection for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this poetry collection and felt like I followed such an emotional journey to the very end of the book. It explores quite a few hard hitting subjects but does it in such a respectful and honest way that really pulls at your heart strings. Even though the poetry was so personal and of course we can't understand the original meaning so much was conveyed to the reader. It is a collection of poems centred around loss, emotional abuse, and the reflection of life's cruelties.
It was well formatted and each poem had a title which I love to see. I really love the cover and thought the title was very unique. This collection is split into chapters that explores different emotions that we experience through our lives. I felt such wisdom in these poems and really took so much from so many.

I downloaded this book to read over the week but wound up devouring it in one sitting. Rarely can a poetry book pull you in the way this one does. It felt like reading a novel- when your body is present in your chair but your mind is miles away in a world created by the writer.
Beautiful, heartbreaking, raw, and real. This is the kind of poetry that makes people fall in love with it.
I am so glad that I found Hannah on Instagram and that I have the privilege of reading her work on a regular basis.

This book was so well written. I could feel the emotions of the author. I loved the imagery used through out the book. The author beautifully writes their hardships and emotions in poem form. As much as the book is sad, it is so poetically wonderful I could not put the book down.

Touching and inspiring
There are so many written lines that lift my spirit. Beautifully written about trauma, life, relationships and realisation. A touching call for a honest love.
“…I know there’s more to this life
than just being nice.
I feel it, like a rumbling purge
in the pit of my stomach,
like a freight train headed
toward collision…
until BAM
there’s nothing left of me,
but ashes.
And even something that could sound amusing.
“Clocks
Time keeps
slipping through
fingers once
intertwined
by yours.
Ticking...
Ticking...
Ticking...
as if it’s to say…
you are running out,
running scared,
or standing too still…”

Hannah writes with honesty, passion, and beautiful imagery. She weaves intricate stories about human connections, be they familial, platonic, or romantic, and lays the deepest emotions of her heart bare for the world to see, inspiring others to do the same. I finished every poem thinking it would be my favourite of the collection, only to turn the page and find yet another brilliant contender. Incredible, incredible book, and I can't wait to see what's next!
