Lily (FMC) has had a hard life growing up but shes always had the back up of her monsters - Jack, Creeper, Bug & Chumley. Whether they were a figment of her imagination or not they were there to protect her as well as keep her company. Except they were so much more than that and when Lily turned 18 their significance makes itself known. With the invitation to enroll at the Everwood Academy. Hell hounds, Demons, Angels, Witches..........etc they all make an appearance in this book. Lily is right in the middle of all of that. Add to that the sexual tension between Lily and the guys which was really sweet. More so as they found out more about each other. It was hard not to like Lily and the guys. It was steamy but in a subtle way which i kinda liked. It played off well against the main story of Lily finding out about her background as well as herself. This was a great read and im looking forward to reading the next book now

sweet romance

I enjoyed this quick sweet romance with Lily and her four hellhounds affectionately nicknamed Jack, Chumley, Creeper and Bug. With her protectors taking care of her after the death of her mother Lily enters the Academy to begin mastery of her powers and uncovering her true identity. The group is all so supportive of one another as they navigate feelings, power and future goals. Great character growth in this story and an easy to fall into world.

There are not enough, and yet too many words that can be used to describe how much I enjoyed this book. After all, Amazon does have a minimum and maximum word count for a reason.

While ending on a slight cliffhanger, it isn’t the throw your book across the room type. Pretty sure my phone is grateful for that. Monsters who turn out to be hellhounds, a orphan who has done what it took to stay alive and off the streets at a young age, an academy for demonics upon reaching one’s potential at 18, and a destiny that is only coming to light, this is one of those more lighter stories that are easy to binge read, which I totally did. It also has super sweet moments and light romance scenes, mainly due to everyone in the group being inexperienced in love and relationships until now, when they are finally together. Plot is a slow buildup but I don’t mind. Right now it is more focused on world building and character development and growth. Book two is on my list for what to read for downtime from life.

While there were some minor errors found, which hopefully will be fixed soon, there wasn’t enough to distract too much from the story.

Protected by Monsters is a good read. Lily has had a tough life. She's never met her Dad and her Mom passed away. Things were not always easy for her. She has four monsters that keep her company. She's named her shadowy monsters Jack, Creeper, Bug, and Chumley. She kind of thinks she is crazy, and they are just part of her imagination. When she turns 18, everything changes for her. Her monsters are real and they are hellhounds. Jack, Creeper, Bug, and Chumley are not shadows they are really, and all are pretty attractive. She's now thrown into a life she didn't know existed. She is pretty easygoing and doesn't freak out. I liked her; she doesn't have the woo is me victim mentality and she deals with the hand she is dealt with grace. She's at Everwood Academy to learn how to harness her powers. There's sexual tension between her and Jack, Creeper, Bug, and Chumley. Jack, Creeper, Bug, and Chumley are all cute, they are learning how to deal with feelings and stuff and I totally loved all of them. The story flowed perfectly and had me hooked, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Starts out slow-Picks up a little over half way

This is definitely a slow burn RH in the making. I almost stopped reading it but am glad I pushed through to th end. This book has a storyline that the author lays out pretty thoroughly before the "romance" actually starts to progress. If you like Hellhounds then this book has you covered.

On the day of Lily's 18th birthday she finds out that her four shadow monsters are actually real{definitely not Schizophrenic] and Hellhounds not monsters but hers all the same. She's sent to an academy but this isn't like other Academy Romance Novels at all which is refreshing.

Still a few grammatical errors that may interrupt your reading flow {it does mine) but overall I'm enjoying the story and can't wait to start #2.

This second book starts right where book one left us. There is definite progression of characters & their relationships, similar progression (but totally different story) to the Corviticus series. We find out more about Lily’s powers, her parents, the other students, and the current situation regarding demonics, demons, angelics, and angels. Steam level increases as well! Now bring on EA: Godly Creatures!

Great story

I’m enjoying the story very much, and intend to continue with the next book, but I do wish the author had an editor, or even a good proofreader. While most of the writing is par for professional authorship, there are many mistakes and quite a few places that could have benefitted from some polishing. As an amateur writer myself, good editing is key to a great finished product, and theses books have potential to be great.

Great first book
This books is a great first book in this new series! Lily sees 4 monsters that no one else can. Once she turns 18, she realizes the monsters are real, and are hers.

Two different books.

I'm confused by this book. The first part was great. Let's of action. Starting to get a feel for the characters. I loved the feel of the beginning. Then they made it to the academy and I was bored. No monster should ever say anything sweetly. It just feels like two books and I very much wanted the first one.

Lily....

This was unlike any story I've read! I loved it! Very intriguing, with some edge of my seat moments, but also kept me guessing. I have to read the next one! Four hellhounds for her protection. Great read for me.

J.E. Cluney has such a way with words that I’m always instantly hooked to her stories. The storyline for Everwood Academy is very intriguing with the angels vs demons concept and I’m sure that I will be gobbling this series up as the books are released. Demonic Creatures is a book that will certainly make you think. With the amount of secrets being kept and the mysteries surrounding the characters, it’s a sure thing that you will be kept on your toes with the surprises and events that occur while reading.

The connection with Lily and her hellhounds is one that I wasn’t expecting. For being hellhounds, Jack, Creeper, Bug, and Chumley are beyond sweet and loving. They are protective without it being too overwhelming and also support Lily in every way possible. If you’re a fan of harems that are a bit stoic and gruff towards everyone else yet big teddy bears to the fmc, this is a great book to read. Their relationship with Lily is so adorable and naive at times, but I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship evolves as the story continues.

The build up of powers in this series is nice as well. I always hate reading books where the main character gains their powers for the first time but is automatically a master of them. With Lily not only being unaware of this supernatural part of the world but also unaware of how to handle her powers, it makes the book more credible, even though it is a paranormal type of book. It gives me something more to look forward to as she begins to fully understand and accept her powers. I’m excited to learn more about her capabilities and hope more come to light in the next book!

I attempted to read a copy of this story that was included in the anthology Wicked Souls but had to quit in the middle. The following is my original review there:

On her 18th birthday, the FMC Lily was invited to attend the Everwood Academy after being haunted by 4 mysterious demonic creatures since her 14th birthday. Lily finally learned about her true ancestry after she spoke with the academy's headmaster, and the demonic creatures were also revealed to be .

The setting was interesting, and the characters were unique, but everything after they arrived at the academy turned out to be quite the info dump, and I started skimming at around Chapter 15 (out of 38) and had to quit around Chapter 25 when I realized there was still so much to go. All the students and teachers were dumped on the reader at a single dinner, and it was hard to keep everyone straight. Additionally, we learned that Lily was a very powerful special snowflake and the hellhounds were . Combine the overload of information with the main cast as all virginal and insta-lust attraction, this story wasn't my cup of tea.

An absolute brilliant start to this new series. It definitely has a more unique take on the demon perspective. I liked the idea that the hell hounds are able to project themselves. I particular liked how sweet and adorably awkward the guys are, there is a reason for it but you’ll have to read it yourself. I also have to say that there’s a bit of a Disney moment in it and it was such a sweet, perfect moment but for most it’s a totally unrealistic expectation of what would really happen. Didn’t stop me from swooning though, expectation v reality. Really well written and flows nicely. It is the first book in the series so it definitely sets the plot for big things to happen in the future. I could have happily kept reading about the fmc and her hell hounds. I think if I had to critic anything it would be that I would have loved more grit and drama where Charlie was concerned. That’s mostly because I love a good fight and a bit of epic drama.

This is not my first book by J.E. Cluney but with this one she really outdid herself! It's has quickly become my favourite book she has written.

Lily's world turns upside down as soon as she turns 18. The four monsters she saw around her aren't proof that she's schizophrenic, but that she's special. When they bring her to Everwood Academy to discover who she is and what she's capable of, everything seems to fit. There is a slightly problem though... someone is out to get her.

My favourite part of the book is how her four monsters don't pretend to be humans nor to understand them. They worked hard to get to understand humanity, and I also love how Lily is with them. The author did an amazing job in creating such 3D characters.

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

In this first book we meet Lily, who believes she is crazy due to the 4 monsters only she can see. Imagine her surprise when she realizes that her 4 monsters, protectors and only friends are very real. Jack, Chumley, Creeper and Bug were specifically created for Lily and have to learn emotions and how to interact with others. But for Lily they'll do anything.

I really enjoyed the multiple POVs since it gave us the opportunity to really get to know all of the main characters. The dynamic between Lily and her guys was fun because they've always known Lily but she's basically starting from scratch with them. It makes for amusing and funny moments. The secrets are intriguing of course. What is Lily truly?

All in all it was a great read, well written and I'm looking forward to book 2.

A very interesting take on demons.

This was a little hard for me to get into at first. I think the plot was a little too slow for me and made it hard to get into.

I enjoyed all the guys, i think Bug may be my favorite, then Creeper, they're growing on me. I loved his uncertainty in the beginning, of how he couldn't discern his emotions.

I loved how Jack took advice from the other girls, to ensure an evening to remember.

Bug is so sweet and adorable. I'd love to curl up and read with him.

Chumley is so fun to interact with!

Overall, I loved how they're all so sweet towards Lily.

I loved the ending, it was exciting to see how book 2 would start off and I have a feeling I know what Lily's other powers may be!!!

This is a different spin on the divide between angels and demons, with demons being the policing authority and the angels being general D*%#s! 😖
Lily has no idea she’s even remotely not human, thinking she’s just crazy, until her 18th birthday when her monsters swarm her off to the Everwood Academy. There she learns she’s a demonic creature of significant importance - although all is not as it appears to be 😃
Her monsters or hellhounds are a great mix of personalities, despite slightly struggling with human nature 😂
Jack, Creeper, Chumley and Bug are all devoted to Lily and would do anything to protect her 😍
Compared to Cluney’s other works these characters are far more naive an innocent and definitely a lower heat but the storyline really is the focus and drives it in this first book

I have just started to read this brand new series by Josie, and I must say It has started brilliantly. The start of the book reminded me of a teaser quite a few months back Josie put on her facebook page, and I must admit I was looking forward to reading more. I didn't realize it was this book. I do not like to add spoilers but this book starts off a journey for Lily to find out who she is, her relationship with her protectors, her father who she had never met and her new friends.

I always look forward to Josie's books, they are jam packed with action and well written I find it hard to put them down. Love Love Love it. Looking forward to the next lot of books

Monsters Who Aren’t As They Appear? Yes, Please!

JE Cluney begins her latest wonderful series with a specular set of characters and a great premise, in book 1, in Demonic Creatures.

Lily is an orphaned teen just trying to survive the streets. Her saviors? The four monsters, that only she can see, that have invaded her life since her mother’s death.

Lily’s journey continues when, on her 18th birthday, an unexpected invitation appears.

I will be totally honest with you all. I read a LOT of PNR and this series is really exciting me. There is a freshness of ideas and I am adoring the RH component.

I am so looking forward to the Everwood Academy series continuing!!’

I love Lily. Period. Shes literally the most awesome FMC to be written. Shes smart and funny, strong and courageous, and just an all around bada**. I love her quirks and even her hesitations towards the boys. It makes her seem so much more real than most characters. The story itself was phenomenally written, with the plot slowly building and the mysteries unravelling with finesse. There was no rush and there were no holes. I love the boys, and their innocence and humanity, especially since they're hellhounds. This is definitely my new favorite series and I cannot wait to see what's next for them!

Wow, I’m not going to lie, I was kinda hesitant about this book. Once I started I was consumed by it. Since her mother passed, Lily had 4 monsters lurking around. Thinking it is a form of schizophrenia, she talks to them as if they were illusions. Seems rational, or at least in my head it does.

Once her 18th birthday becomes closer she is transported to a University to train. At fist she doesn’t believe it. She has been on her own for so long and had worked dead end jobs to make ends meet. Once she is at the university, the 4 monsters are shown to her. Not in monster form, or as hellhounds, but as people.

Needless to say, this was a great book. Defiantly looking for the sequel.

What a great story. It’s so engaging right from the beginning. Lily is a likeable character who feels like she may be seeing things..or at least having a mental breakdown...but the guys/ hellhounds she sees Jack, Chumly, Bug, and Creeper are really cute and are there to protect her. The whole concept was really well written and JE always writes her stories with such a fullness to the characters and their relationship between eachother. The sexual tension was thebut nice and stutle and so good... It was really nice and steamy...but not over done at all. The lead up to book two was great. I highly recommend this book. 🙂

Good read

I enjoyed this story about Lily and her Hellhounds. Since her mum was killed by a demon, Lily had her own set of monsters. They stopped her from going outside at certain times which got her fired from many jobs. One of them seemed to enjoy watching Netflix and another liked to escort her when she had to go out.

On her 18th birthday she was transported to Everwood Academy where here monsters turned into human-looking hot men. They had their own names but kept her make-up ones like Creeper and Jack.

Lily just needed to know what the hell was going on and who was her real father?
