A nice, easy, fun rom-com.
The Trials of Adeline Turner is a light and easy Rom-Com
The story follows the very likeable thirty-three year old Adeline as she navigates her life. Thinking that if she wants to find 'the one' she needs to get out and date. After joining a dating app she goes on a few not so great dates but when she does start seeing someone seriously she always seems to be the one not committing.

Adeline is a career driven woman but would also like to find that special someone. Adeline goes through many ups and downs as she reconnects with her high school crush, is sabotaged at work right when she was due for a promotion, reaches out to the mother she hasn't seen for twenty-one years and realises 'the one' might be the person right in front of you.

I really enjoyed reading The Trials of Adeline Turner and following Adeline's growth and reconciliation with her past. The story line was rather predictable but isn't that what you want from a romance read? Happy endings guaranteed!

I was excited to receive an advanced copy of The Trials of Adeline Turner, as I really enjoyed Angela Terry's debut novel last year. Her sophomore novel is just as enjoyable as her debut and kept me engaged the entire time. It's an easygoing chick lit escape read.

My life is the opposite of Adeline's in every possible way, but I still found her utterly relatable and was cheering her on the entire time. The descriptions of characters and settings brought the story to life right in front of me. I've never been to San Francisco, but this novel made it even more enticing to visit. (Not that I don't already have reasons to check it out.) Angela did better with giving Chicago more of a feel than in her previous novel, but I think that's also due to me spending time there recently.

There was only one aspect I found slightly predictable, but the outcome ended up surprising me anyway. Aside from that, I wasn't sure where this story was going and I enjoyed being along for the ride. I felt like some of the men seemed interchangeable at times, but she made it clear who was or wasn't likable. I did learn a lot about what it's like to be a corporate attorney and all the office politics involved. However, even with some of the law terminology, the parts involving Adeline's career were easy to follow. I always associated Adeline as a name for earlier generations (like those born over a century ago), but the one in this story made it sound like a name that people could be bringing back for a younger generation.

Overall, I had a lot of fun reading this novel and had a hard time putting it down!

Okay, so at the start it seemed interesting but i fell off around 20%, but i thought to try more before giving up. But when i ended up skimming from 40-50% it was time to call it quits. Adeline was sort of interesting at first, but i felt she tried to hard in a way. It was too much unessesary plot that was going on. I ended up not liking her and the side characters were there only to "help" or "tell" and the whole deal with Elena didn`t sit right with me.

Overall, it was a charming little romcom with a fun twist. At times I was rooting for the main character and others I was covering my eyes in frustration because I could see cringy things coming.

A TON happened in the last 50-75 pages. I wish that part had been extended and the rest of the book shortened a bit. Overall it was a cute book and my only real complaint is the speedy wrap up. I was happy with the ending but wished there had been more detail! If you read the book you’ll know what I mean!

Side note: I love intentionally and unintentionally picking up books that are set in my new city. It’s fun to read about neighborhoods I walk through to do errands or shop and learn about potential bars and restaurants to visit because they actually exist!

Firstly I should like to thank NetGalley and Girl Friday Books for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

I gave this 4.5 stars rounded down to 4. I so wish we could give half star ratings. I loved the book and the writing. I have to confess it took a few chapters for me to get right into it but once I did I couldn't put the book down.

I felt myself in Chicago and San Francisco and I felt like I was in the rooms watching this all play out. The characters felt familiar and real. Even the ones I didn't care for. The story was great and I was laughing and crying along with it. Addeline was a wonderful female protagonist. Her reactions and side comments were priceless. I think that we might all have a little Addeline in us. She was easy to relate to....whichever side of her you could see yourself as.

The romance wasn't too much and neither was the drama. It all came together for me to make a wonderful read. Not having read Angela Terry's debut novel this was my introduction to her and I know I shall be reading other books of hers.

Would I recommend this? Absolutely since it was hard not to love it once I got into it and I hope that those who enjoy romance, drama, comedy, family situations and a lot more besides will add this to their want to read lists.

Again thank you to NetGalley and Girl Friday Books for providing me with my advanced copy and I was very happy to share my honest opinion

This novel has a delightful romcom tone which is fun and easy to read, but doesn’t let itself be boxed into common tropes.

Adeline Turner has no life-balance and a shitty romantic life, but other than that she has it all together—the sought after legal job on a track to partnership, a father who’s proud of her , a client who’s impressed, and soon a job offer to move to San Francisco.

So she’s well-grounded, that is until she runs into her unrequited high school crush, who reappears in real life. She’s way too old (in her thirties) and is too much of a professional to be blushing and flushing over a fellow lawyer, but yes, she is. And she’s embarrassed about it and trying hard to keep her professional and personal lives separate.

Add in a subplot of corporate intrigue and backstabbing, and leaving her best friend and confidante behind in Chicago and Adeline has plenty to deal with.

I enjoyed the balanced tone of this book. It covers real questions around regrets and whether we take chances on love, but in a light-hearted way that’s enjoyable to read.

Ultimately, Adeline is going to appreciate that we only have one life to live and living it to the fullest means taking risks. A truly satisfying read.

Angela Terry’s best book yet.
While reading, I could see the whole thing playing out like a movie (nudge nudge Reece Witherspoon- come produce this).
I like that Adeline started from a place I know well- security. And she ends in another place I know well- but I won’t spoil it for you.
It’s a rom-com coming of age in your 30s kind of story. It felt good to read- And I wanted to keep reading.
I read all Sunday afternoon, then during my Monday lunch break and may have skipped an hour of my workday to finish it.
It was fun to be pulled along by the movements, characters, relationships and wine bars.

I was skeptical going into this read— Though the first few chapters caught my interest enough to dive in, the entire novel was honestly very slow, and (I felt) lacking strongly in some way. Truthfully, I contemplated shelving it several times through-out the middle of the story— but I held hope for “more” to come.

…Not much “more” ever really came though, unfortunately! The ending was good; a bit unexpected, but felt extremely brief, compared to the long (in my opinion, drawn out) story-line. A cute read if you are looking for something light, I suppose!

charming and satisfying read!

A fun, fast-paced, and satisfying tale of one woman’s journey to find love and fulfillment in her relationships, family, and career. Adeline is a protagonist you’ll root for from page one as she navigates complicated entanglements in her dating life and a high-achieving yet cut-throat career. Fans of Emily Giffin will devour this engaging, romantic read from the very talented Angela Terry.

I really enjoyed this story, which was relief after seeing a few lower-rated reviews on GR. Glad they were way off base, as this quick-paced, funny, and drama filled romance had everything I was looking for. Beyond being very well-written, the characters were memorable and likable.

As a protagonist, I found Addie to be a particularly sympathetic character, and being able to see into her past now and again was a great way to remind us of the source of her childhood and teenage insecurities that have followed her into her adult life. She’s a deeply intelligent, funny, and ambitious woman who also happens to be quirky in all the right ways.

The supporting characters of Bridget (best friend), Elena (new friend), and Mark (new boss) all add great human moments to this story and reminded me of various friends, acquaintances, and colleagues throughout my life to date. They play their roles well, and so do the villains! I won’t spoil it, but the 3 shady characters that make life uncomfortable for Addie sure do bring you back to every uncomfortable and awkward moment sharing office space with people you would otherwise avoid at all costs.

The author’s depiction of the suitors in Addie’s life threw me a bit (particularly Eric and Evan), and it’s the only reason I didn’t give higher than a 4. I understand that to drive the plot forward to get Addie where she needed to be, that this all had to happen, but I felt blind-sided by one character’s almost secret negative personality traits that appeared a bit too late in the storyline for me. It was just a bit convenient and I think let Addie out of what might have been a morally questionable situations - basically it’s easier to see someone treated unfairly if they’re a bad person.

I also enjoyed the surprise ending to the office hijinx, so that was pleasantly unexpected.

The overall idea of Addie going through all of these experiences to learn to stand up for herself, to stop settling, and to stop letting life happen to her, was a really nice message. Her familial connections were also lovely, each in their own way, so I was glad time was spent to dig into them a bit.

Definite recommend from me if you’re into a rom-com with a side of drama and some lovely peeks into friendships, failed romances, and cross country corporate law firms!

There's a lot going on here...First, the voice this is written in is too familiar. Adeline isn't clever enough to pull off some of the lines she tries to tell the reader "Yes? No? Well I did." It just bothered me more than helped the story along. Other elements of the story are brought up and never discussed again (Elena on dating apps? Not only not into her fiance but cheating?). I know the reconnecting with her mother storyline was supposed to be some breakthrough but it overall felt unnecessary. Perhaps the most odd part was the last 2 pages her realizing Mark was her "person," just like that. This book tried to do way too much and instead of following through, ended up half assing it along the way.

THE TRIALS OF ADELINE TURNER is on shelves! I really enjoyed this fun and super relatable story about a thirty-something year old who is all about work and no play. That is, until a series of unique events steer here into a chance encounter with her high school crush. After said encounter, predictable, safe Adeline makes the bold decision to move to San Francisco, where she has the opportunity to lead a new project that could catapult her career into partner with her firm. It will also lead to messy romantic situations and a whirlwind life that Adeline could not have predicted.

I thought about it and I don’t think I’ve ever met an Adeline, someone who is content with work, work, work and no time for fun. This character was hard to relate to in the beginning because she lived a predictable life. When she runs into an old crush from her hometown, she kind of does a 180 and turns into a risk taker overnight, pushing boundaries, taking chances and even letting a little romance in. Who was this girl? I liked her! Through work drama, boy problems and getting settled in a new city, I could relate to this new Adeline and was rooting for her success.

3 1/2 stars...

This book was a light and easy rom-com read. There weren't any extremely serious topics. However, there were some life events that had dramatically impacted Adeline as a child and ended up affecting how she lived her adult life. I liked Adeline's character. She was relatable and I felt for her with the difficulty in finding a balance between work and a personal life.

My opinion on the book was mixed. I didn't like the way a few plot lines went. I felt like they were incomplete with little explanation. I also didn't care for the way one character was handled over the course of the story. I believe the story could have been stronger with more detail and some plot tweaks. It would have helped me to feel more connected to the characters and the story, in general. But it's all personal opinion. That said, I still liked the message of the book - - to prioritize yourself and live your life without apology. At least that's what I took away from it.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

Finished The Trials of Adeline Turner by Angela Terry and had a great time with this one!!!

The story follows 33 year old Adeline as she navigates life and all its complications. I found her to be a very relatable character, it was easy to connect with her and her internal monologue had me chuckling throughout the whole book.

She’s a career driven kind of woman and doesn’t have the best of luck when choosing the men she dates, but I appreciated seeing this side of her story too. I loved how in order to stop life from just happening to her, she learns to speak up her mind and take matters into her own hands.

I also enjoyed reading about her relationship with her best friend Bridget and the new people in her life in San Francisco.

The writing was fast-paced, fun to read and overall, I’d recommend this one to anyone looking for a fun closed door romcom that is out next Tuesday (10/19)!!

The Trials of Adeline Turner is a fast-paced, fun and drama-filled romance. Addie is a 33-year-old lawyer who, after a chance encounter with her high school crush and landing a new client, decides to uproot her life and move from Chicago to San Francisco. Add in some shady office antics, a motherly reconnection and some interesting romantic situations and you have The Trials of Adeline Turner.

Terry has a very easygoing writing style, so it's easy to get sucked into the story. Addie was a likeable and relatable character, with flaws like the rest of us! Terry's former life as an attorney is also evident throughout the book, but her use of terminology was very easy to follow. She's also created a great cast of characters, but I particularly liked Bridget's humour and honesty.

However, I did think the pacing was slightly off, as a lot of big developments happened at the end that felt rushed and kind of interrupted the book's steady flow. But otherwise, if you're looking for a fun romance novel with a dash of drama, check out The Trials of Adeline Turner.

This was a fun and easy romance read. I enjoyed the main character, and her ability to speak her mind and stand up for her decisions. Addie really felt like me, if I had to be dating in my 30s. I really liked her best friend Bridget, her humor was a nice addition. I wasn’t crazy about any of the love interests but the relationships were believable and well written. I did feel like a few of the plot lines weren’t entirely developed, mainly Elena as well as a “plot twist” about a love interest that didn’t get very much mention at all. I did enjoy the ending a lot, but also felt like it wasn’t given much time or detail. My main issue with this book, however, was that every single conversation-whether it was inner dialogue or with another character, was about her love interests. I know, it’s a romance story, it’s supposed to be about love. But this is a 30 year old woman lawyer who is about to make partner, I feel like she would have other discussions or thoughts too!

Overall I did enjoy this book, I just wish it had more of Adeline’s story and not just “who should I be with” conflict. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance novels, love triangles, dating intrigue, or books about women with powerful careers.

I enjoyed this fast-paced rom-com in the beginning, but as it went on I found it had a few issues overall. I'll start at the end. It was rushed. Everything was crammed into the last 10% of the book. All the problems were solved and Addie suddenly found her love just like that. I liked the build-up but I would also like to have had more time to enjoy the outcome.

Addie is a smart woman on her way to making partner at her law firm but she is also incredibly immature when it comes to her love life. She's in her 30's and her reactions and way of dealing with things reminded me of a much younger person. I felt frustrated and eventually bored with her. I also found the storyline with her mom completely unrealistic. It was all too quick for me.

On a positive note, some of the side characters were great. Bridget was a true friend and her humor and honesty were wonderful additions. Nora was also a great work friend, and Mark turned into a great character. Addie's Dad was also good.

This is a fun read but there are some frustrating bits, I wouldn't read again.

Give me a delightful heroine, an engaging journey of self-discovery, and a healthy dose of romance and I’ll give you my undivided attention. That’s exactly what happened when I picked up Angela Terry’s new novel, The Trials of Adeline Turner.

I’m always craving those delicious slice-of-life tales of women finding their way through new friendships, work drama, and the complex world of dating, and The Trials of Adeline Turner perfectly satisfied that sweet spot. Angela Terry’s writing is fresh, funny, and sharp, and in Adeline, she has created a character that I not only rooted and felt for, but that I wanted to hang out with. Like Adeline, I never knew what was going to happen, and through all of the ups and downs, I just loved being along for the ride.

If you’re looking for a book about finding your way, coming to terms with the past, and braving the way towards a new future, don’t miss out on The Trials of Adeline Turner.

I had a hard time staying interested in this book.

Adeline Turners personal and professional lives become messily intertwined as she attempts to navigate obstacles in both.

At first I was drawn into the story. Setup as a light rom-com I was in it for the long haul. Unfortunately, Adelines first romantic interest is along the lines of insta-love which I’m not a huge fan of. Furthermore, there is a “bitches be crazy” aspect of the storyline I was majorly rolling my eyes at very early on.

I saw some reviews that mentioned this story resembling Eat, Pray, Love. I didn’t get those vibes at all. Honestly, that was the main reason I kept reading because I was waiting for it to kick in but it never did for me.

That being said, this is a nice light story full of romance and drama. If you’re not thrown off by insta-love and “crazy” women then this book may work better for you than it did for me!

The writing was so-so and the resolution/s toward the end felt rushed. The character I liked the most was Bridget and was kinda sad when she barely showed up after stirring the pot with her revelation about Mark and Elena.
I feel like the mother-daughter point should have been a bigger part of the story but the resolution and for that was rushed and the build-up was barely even there. Adeline blamed her mom for a lot of things but barely even thought of her mom which made sense since she kind of wanted to forget that part of her childhood but it just felt incomplete.
Mark revealing that video of Brad hooking up with Jasmine felt too convenient of a resolution to finally close that chapter behind her and let go of her feeling for him, and the easy breakup with Evan just being summed up in one paragraph felt too easy.
The Epilogue was very cheesy but okay at least she got her happy ending I guess.

The Trials of Adeline Turner was such a pleasant read. As a corporate attorney, Adeline advances in her career but finds little time for a personal life. After a chance encounter leads her to running head first (literally) into her high school crush, Adeline thinks this must be her chance to reignite an old flame. Adeline learns the hard way that sometimes people are better in our heads than they are in real life. After heading across the country for a job and into the unknown, Adeline figures out that she has to make the life she wants, not just wait for it to come to her.

I really enjoyed this pleasant read. It was the perfect mix of girl power with career advancement and emphasis on friendship plus some romance with a bit of drama. Easy read and perfect for the summer or a long flight.

Adeline's career is on track to making partner when she impresses a huge client, yet her love life has suffered until a chance meeting with her high school crush takes a turn when he confesses to having liked her too. A powerful night together soon turns confusing when he reveals a secret that has her doubting her choices. This begins a domino effect of second guessing everthing and everyone. Totally relatable in one way or another and it surprised me to find that I wasn't sure who was toxic and who wasn't. A great read of misunderstandings, hope and disappointment. I think we've all experienced some Adeline at some point or at least knew someone who did. Keeps you going til the end to find out the answers but worth it.

When you’re young and “in love” with a boy, you tend to be a little blinded by any faults they might have. I can understand her infatuation with Brad and wanting him to be the “one that got away” and then ending up in relationships where they’re comfortable, but not right. Life is a whole series of trials and tribulations, some of us come out mostly unscathed, and others (like me) tend to be a little bitter and not quick to trust. I suppose the moral could be to trust your instincts. If something seems too good to be true, perhaps it is. It’s the age old adage, but it tends to ring true a lot.

Sometimes, you need to turn to your friends for the moral support. And sometimes, you need to live vicariously through them. It can be hard to watch your friends fall in love when you aren’t having any luck in the love department, but you still show up for them, and they still show up for you.

This story was easy to read. The main character named Addie was likable, and the drama in her life was entertaining. However, sometimes I felt that I was reading from a teenager's point of view instead of a grown woman's. In general, the plot was interesting and fun to read, and I loved that Addie's enemy at work was someone that I did not think of but that it made sense storywise. Regarding the ending, I have to say that I really liked it, but I think it was rushed. I would have wanted to see in detail how her relationship developed with the person she chose.

First book I've read by this author. This book is worth the read. I did think it started a bit slow but once it picks up, it's very good. I enjoyed the last third the most. Adeline is a very likable character who makes mistakes but doesn't make you cringe or angry. I can relate to her on some levels when it comes to feeling trapped or like your life isn't going anywhere. So much is goes on in her work + life situation and she doesn't know who to trust but she figures out the answer has been in front of her all along. I recommend this to anyone who feels like they're stuck in any situation (work or personal), especially those of us turning thirty or already in our thirties.
I'm excited to read more by this author.

I see why this book has won multiple awards! Since I LOVE the author’s first book, I had to read this one too…and it exceeded my expectations. Main character Adeline was someone I wanted to be friends with and know all about from the start. Who can’t relate to a childhood crush or workplace drama? She went through multiple nightmare situations with grace while discovering her true desires in life and healing her past, a gift readers can find inspiration in for their own lives. Surrounding her was a fabulous cast of well-rounded, intriguing characters, adding to me wanting to flip the page and find out what happens next immediately. I need more books like this in my life: well-written, fast-paced, emotional yet light, and memorable. I can’t wait for this author’s next book!

Just simply delightful! This was a fun easy read (rom com) that i got lost into and finished within 24 hours of starting. The characters are likeable and I became attached to Addie. I found myself rooting for her at work to as she tries to become partner in her lawfirm and in her personal life on the search for love in your 30s. The story incorporates the bond of female friendships, dating in a tough single world, ambition to be successful in your career, and the depth of family relationships.
This was a solid 4.5 read and will go back to check out the authors prior book.

First of all I wanna thank NetGalley, Smith Publicity and Angela Terry for allowing me to read this eARC!
Honestly this story swallowed me since I started it. I felt connected with Addie in a lot of things during the book (not only the fact that I'm also 33 years old), Bridget is the best friend everyone wants in their life and Mark made me laugh and smile from the beggining, he was always sich a food and supportive friend and colleague to Addie. I LOVED Brad when he first entered the story so I felt so disappointed with the continuing of the book...
The pace of the book was good, see all different aspects of Addie's life was interesting.
Definitely a fun and easy read that I loved!

I took to Adeline immediately. She’s a Chicago lawyer, merely existing, it asking too much from life. Suddenly she has a career opportunity and also a potential crush turns real. While a good attorney, Adeline has a lot to learn in the People department. I guess who she would end up with halfway through the book. Adeline finally comes to realizations in her life and takes action. She doesn’t just settle, although that would be the easy way out. I liked that she was a Midwesterner and it was home for her. It’s a great read. Thanks to Girl Friday Books and NetGalley for the early read.

Unfortunately for me I was not able to go to press the 25% mark. I cannot put my finger on what was wrong -I don't know if it was the pace or the dialogue that was lacking content. I talked to someone who has read the book and they told me that they found the book was slow paced and that everything was happening at the end but in my opinion I felt like they were lacking some descriptive and the characters had there meet cue in the first few chapters.

The blurb was exciting, but the story just felt meh.
