At Spearwood Academy, before students can learn to shift into their dragon form, they have to prove they can survive the cut.
Avalon succeeded in her dream to attend Spearwood, but that was the easy part. Arrival at Spearwood Academy throws her into instant competition with her fellow students, where she’ll have to work hard to make the first cut if she wants to stay.
With every student a possible threat to her spot in the school, can she trust anyone. Nothing is as she expected, friends become enemies, and enemies become allies in the game of survival.

A great paranormal academy read, book two in the series, action packed with interesting characters and fantastic worldbuilding. Well written with a fun and engaging storyline, action, adventure, betrayal, mystery, unlikely alliances and plenty of twists and turns, indicative of Spearwood Academy series so far.
Lili Black is a fantastic author, love their writing style and cannot wait to read more books by this fantastic author.

I enjoyed reading just a day before the newest book was released in this series. I also read the Raised by Monster Series as well. I get both new books so I am so excited. Everything written by this written is awesome.
Step one has been accomplished. Avalon has made it into Spearwood Academy. It's not what she expected. She expected a challenging atmosphere and dangers to be faced but she didn't know she would be tested every second of every day. The students are pitted against one another instead of being encouraged to work together. Trust is at a premium and every other student is a threat. Plus, their every move is monitored and graded. Avalon quickly learns it's easy to lose points but not so easy to gain any. If she can't turn things around quickly, her stay at Spearwood won't last long.
It seemed to me, this book took a little time to find its footing. It's important with these short reads to make every page count and this one wasn't entirely successful. Understandable since there is necessary world-building and character definition. Still, these combined with the repetition of Avalon's struggles meant the story didn't really get going until it was almost time to cut it off in a worrisome cliffhanger. I'm not worried about this series, however, with these two authors. I know they understand the importance of making each word count and I know Avalon's story will pick up steam from here.
“Outcast Magic. Fall Season” is the second full installment in the “Spearwood Academy” by Lili Black, a YA/NA academy paranormal romance series, from which a prequel is also readily available.
Avalon Clementine dreamed of enrolling at the Spearwood Academy, a shifter school, in which the dragons play a special role. Avalon is technically a dragon, but as a female she cannot shift… or can she? It doesn’t really matter, because before she can learn to shift, she has to prove that she has what it takes to stay at the Academy. Not even there and already competing for a chance to stay, not exactly how she expected it to be. Every student is a potential enemy, with no one to trust, survival of the fittest becomes a strategy game in which enemies and friends are just an alliance apart. As it seems enrolling at Spearwood was the easy feat…. staying is a whole other issue.
Turns out that getting in to the school is the easy part. Staying in is far more difficult.
This is book two of the series. It works pretty well as a standalone, but it also builds on the last book, so you will be missing a bit of background.
This is an urban fantasy story with dragon shifters in an academy setting. The story is well written and easy to read with an intriguing setting. As is often the case in good stories, there is more going on than is obvious at first glance and that adds spice to the story. I really loved our heroine and I enjoyed watching her grow in this story. I am definitely looking for even more in the next book.
Highly recommended.
