Nuclear Winter #3

Nuclear Winter Whiteout: Post Apocalyptic Survival Thriller

Rate this book
Nuclear fallout circled the Earth like a blanket of death.
Temperatures plummeted. Crops and livestock died.
Man turned on man in a desperate attempt to survive.
And it was just the beginning.

International bestselling author, Bobby Akart, one of America's favorite storytellers, delivers up-all-night thrillers to readers in 245 countries and territories worldwide.

"Masterful and suspenseful!"

This is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with many nuclear bombs detonated around the planet. It was no longer a topic of conversation around the dinner table as in years past.

Nobody was prepared, including the world's governments. Yet the threat was always real and the devastation was predictable.

"Bobby's uncanny ability to take a topic of what could happen and write an epic story about it is short of preternatural!"

The damage was incalcuable. Millions died at the points of impact. Nuclear Winter spread across the globe. A rapidly cooling climate shocked humanity and all living things ... to their death.

Akart's new Nuclear Winter series depicts a world on the edge of nuclear Armageddon. Nuclear Armageddon became reality and ordinary Americans are paying the price.

"I never would have believed that Mr. Akart could outdo himself! Well, he has! This series is quite possibly the best he has ever written."

This is more than the story of nuclear conflict. It's about the devastating effects wrought by Nuclear Winter. Our possible future is seen through the eyes of the Albright family whose roots stretch back to the early settlement of the Florida Keys.

While they fight for survival, they trek across a rapidly deteriorating landscape wrought with danger from both the elements and their fellow man.

It was not our fight, but it became our problem.

"I am speechless. By far the most edge of your seat, acrylic nail biting book ever. E V E R."

Bobby Akart has delivered intense, up-all-night thrillers that have you whispering just one more chapter until the end.

Heading for what remains of Home

Nuclear Winter Whiteout continues the story of the exodus of people from the hardest hit cities in America by the Nuclear bombs. The track most are on is southeastern, as the northern states are rapidly cooling due to the smoke, dust and precipitation that is blacking out the rays of the sun.

By this time, the government underground can only make a statement that will be picked up by foreign press and, somehow, disseminated back to the folks on the ground in the US. But what they decide is a HUGE mistake.

The President calls for martial law. All weapons, gasoline, running vehicles and food storage is to be handed over to the government. FEMA is to take over caring for the refugees and looting and foraging is punishable by death. No one believes this will work and all it does is create more chaos.

Down in Florida, our serial killer finally meets his match and is worked over and left for dead. But, at the last minute, he is taken in by the owners of the resort in the Keys that have almost cut off access to the other world. Bad decision.

The rest of the Floridians are struggling to get back, losing resources and people but still hanging on. It seems as if people can sense an stopping point is coming. Or maybe that's just defeat talking. We'll see in the next book in the series.

Heart Pounding!

Read the last three chapters on the third night. The rest of the book was split between two nights, stopping only when my eyes blurred from strain, tears, or adrenaline!
Mr. Akart's "Nuclear Winter" series is as plausible, realistic, and frightening as today's headlines, with characters who steal your heart and others who deserve whatever happens to them! Not sure how you do it Mr. Akart, but I'm sure glad you do it so well! Can hardly wait for the last book in this nail-biter...and perhaps a reveal of the next Apocalypse?

Not my favourite apocalypse series, but I'm certainly whipping through them. They're not very subtle (yay America, cops are good, "plucky" women save the day, thank God for guns, important people don't get killed), etc. They are very readable, although I'm still not sure why there's a serial killer floating around.

What a major works!

Books 1 - 3 tell us that it would be better to be vaporised.

Surviving gives two thirds of us up to a dozen years of hell and a slow death.

Only here in Australia and NZ would there likely be food but of course everyone would want it.

U.N should make this mandatory reading for all politicians.

Good luck with that.

Nuclear war. The human decent into depravity.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Nuclear Winter 3 is the most fan anticipated book by Bobby Akart so far and he did not disappoint! Right from the start, your heart will be in your throat, choking you as you try to catch your breath and still your racing heartbeat! If you have read books one and two (and you really should before heading into book 3) you know the action never let up but guess what? Triple that! Yes, Bobby outdoes himself with the gripping scenes that had me putting the book down and walking away until I had my emotions under control. That may sound foolish to some but when an author can pull you into a book, make you feel what the characters are feeling and have your emotions at a high level then you KNOW he is one damn fine author! With the country falling apart faster than anticipated by those in the government, the people that have are expected to help out those who were unprepared and have nothing. The president and his cabinet are locked away in a safe place and aren’t listening to those who don’t agree with them, even though they are right. Talk about having your own agenda! Let’s hope that pans out OK in the future because as of right now, the American people are on their own with no hope of any help in sight. Not even foreign countries are stepping up to lend aid. So much for the old saying…I’ll wash your back if you wash mine. But I digress here… The whole point of a review is to let you know if I liked or disliked this book and why. Well, I LOVED it! This series is a very realistic story line that could and might very well happen and not in the distant future if you read the news. Nuclear war threats have been happening for a very long time and back in the day, people prepped for such a thing during the Cold War. Fallout shelters stocked with rations were a very common thing, but they have fallen by the wayside as many things do. We no longer are concerned as much about canning vegetables and stocking things that “might” be needed because there are grocery stores and a drug store on every corner. But as I have learned from this author, we must be prepared for the possibility of not being able to run the store for necessities. Two is one and one is none. Thank you once again Bobby, for an amazing story that had me at the first page, left me emotionally spent and numb. I am looking forward to the next books with high anticipation!

Ok, that's that. I wasn't able to complete Book 2 because it was some of the poorest writing I have had the misfortune of trying to read, I thought maybe it will get better in Book 3. This series has completely lost any hope I will finish it. The story quickly falls apart and goes nowhere. When Peter entered the farmhouse and the people in the basement completely annihilate the house's floor with shotgun blasts and of course don't manage to shoot him dead, I closed the book and will toss this entire series into the trash where it belongs. An utter and complete waste of time.

The exchange of nuclear weapons between world powers killed millions of people.

But the huge volume of radioactive dust and debris thrown into the upper atmosphere blocked sunlight around the world. Nuclear winter was the result. No sunlight making its way through the clouds of dust lowered the temperature around the world as plants and animals died. Billions of people surviving the bombs were now going to die in the cold, dark days with little food and shelter.

Survival was the goal of many in the Florida Keys, but floods of people were after the same thing: a chance at life found nowhere else. The Albright and Frees families had lived their lives on Driftwood Key and they weren't giving up their homes for anyone or anything. Two parts of the family struggle to cross the country making their way to home and safety. Peter Albright saw the bomb destroy Washington D.C. and fled south to make his way home. Owen and Lacey McDowell and their son Tucker make their way over the entire country from California to Florida in Owen's old Bronco. The main problem is that millions of other people had the same idea and were desperate to get south to safety. There was no safety - nowhere.

The vividly described characters desperately trying to survive starvation, exposure, and the worst sides of people in these situations add the human element to the storyline. The absolute depravity of some stands in stark contrast to the natural desire to help when survival is key. I find myself cheering on one page and gritting my teeth at the cowardly acts on the next. Absolutely terrifying. This is a great read!

I waffled between 3 and 4, but liked the story enough to go with 4. There were just a few editing issues ("They began their work on the patient but not before they had to encourage remove Sheriff Mobley and his two deputies to leave the room"). My main issues were with some parts of the plot. I like that the Colorado town is full of nice people that are kind and generous, but I do question whether in light of nuclear attack, nuclear winter and no assurance of resupply they would be so generous to Lacey and Tucker. If they were this nice to everyone stranded there, it would not be a good reallocation of resource for the town. I'm also bothered by the government/President. I can't see that no other country would try to help, for one thing. And the president is going to expend a lot of resources to subdue the Florida keys because they are cheeky? There is no way that they could become a bread basket to America. You need to find other areas to expend those resources. Again, authors need to stop with touting the robust Texas grid since last winter should have put that myth to bed. My biggest issue is with the serial killer/Patrick story. The real tension in Driftwood key should be the mayor and city authorities trying to strong arm the citizens out of their resources, but it took a big backseat (clear into the trunk) behind the serial killer. That not only added nothing to the story and took valuable plot away. It was almost enough to go with a three. Almost.

The President makes a lot of rulings which, in my opinion, border on the approach of a dictatorship. He declares martial law, says some of the Amendments to the Constitution are restricted or no longer in effect and, as the book goes on, things like that which the bureaucracy does become more and more along the lines of power grabbing and ignoring the rights of the people.

Patrick/Patricia is still alive and planning to kill. One town helps some of the main characters while a bullying politician dictates what the people in the Keys are going to do. Texas seems to be standing strong on its own and is not taking any orders from the government.

There's some good things going on in a few instances but it's mostly the government taking over and doing whatever it wants no matter what the people want.

Nuclear Winter Whiteout. Bobby Akart

After the nuclear attack by North Korea upon America, survival hinges upon who is willing to survive and engage in whatever tactic necessary to achieve this. This series centers on the Albright family from the Florida keys and their family members struggling to return home. What separates this family from most is their strong family bonding and not having to depend on others to survive. Corruption on a large scale is occurring throughout America by opportunistic politicians, mayors taking advantage of the martial law being enforced by POTUS. Even his power is not absolute. Their are also good honest people willing to help others. This is an epic read. Unfortunately a scenario that could occur. My highest recommendation!

Hmmm. Don't hate me

I have been a fan of Bobby Akart since his second book. I think the premise of this book is great. But throw in a serial killer into a apocalyptic book was strange. Something else. Tucker and Lacey and the town they were in. During a major freeze and people are leaving their homes for a warmer place, this town fixes their car, fills up the car with gas a picnic basket with food and send them on their way. Seriously?
I felt like the book was too busy. The characters were going in different directions and nothing clicked....all the subplots didn't connected.

I didn't like this book. I looked at the others reviews. I stand alone.

Whiteout

Peter is attacked by a family defending their home, and Owen, Lacey & Tucker fall victim to a freak flash freeze. How will they survive to head onward? What other dangers will they encounter?
Meanwhile the Keys are menaced by a greedy Mayor, and the terrible murderer strikes close to home.
The President of the US lies low in Mount Weather, angered by the honest predictions of the intensity and duration of the impending nuclear winter, relayed by Erin Bergmann, the Secretary of Agriculture.

Nuclear Winter 3

Another amazing book from author Bobby Akart! I did pick up his Easter eggs that he likes to include in his books. At one point, I did shed a few tears....thanks for that, by the way! I love the characters in this story with the exception of a few, like Patrick/Patricia and Mayor Free. Even the President needs replacing...sound familiar, right? This is a fantastic series and you all need to read it!

The continuing story of a Nuclear Winter caused by missiles shot at the US by North Korea and other nuclear skirmishes in other parts of the world. Follow the extended family of a resort keeper in the Florida Keys as each deals with their own issues trying to get home. Yet, things aren't as rosy as they would believe at the resort. Totally buy into these characters and their trials. Good quick book.

A fascinating tutorial on the effects of nuclear winter and man's stupidity!

In an effort to facilitate survival Texas and the Florida Keys close their borders to all but residents and their families. In retaliation, the President of the U.S. throws out the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and declares war on the residents of of Texas and the Keys under the guise of martial law. The might of the US military is brought to bear on US citizens within US borders....

Excellent continuing story in this series.

Bitter cold, snow mixed with soot from fires burning as well as fallout from the bombs. Government declaring Martial law what else can go wrong? People heading south to Florida thinking it will be warm and that there will be room don't realize that FL is having not quite as much weather issues but with so many people trying to get there it isn't a good idea. Even the family members trying to make it home are figuring that out.

INTENSE

This third book in the Nuclear Winter series is full of adventure, angst and hope. Requiring stamina to keep going is at times heart wrenching and courageous beyond belief for the characters portrayed within. Fully enjoyable for the adventures that lead to their goals. Ambitious, and determined, full of twists and turns, it was so easy for me to remain glued to page after page! A must read series!

This is the third in a 5-part series. At this point in the series, if people haven't prepared, they will die. The temperature is dropping, millions have died and the government still hasn't figured out a way to restore the power grid, although they are working on it. The neighborhood the book focuses on is figuring out how to survive. The "news" is now all local; not global. And concerns are community-based; not city-based.

Another Bobby Akart winner. The twists and turns are breathtaking. One can not help but feel the pain the characters experience as the adventure continues.

Bobby leaves you in mid air as everything comes close to an ending, then...

Great Job Bobby. Keep going on the next addition to the adventure.

Cracking read.

Loved this next instalment of the series. Once the main event is over it does seem to follow similar plot lines to the author’s other series but still enjoyable. Goo well drawn characters with a serial killer thrown in. My only gripe is that the novels are too short.

Outstanding and exciting

Like anything of Mr. Akart’s, we are treated to fine writing, breath holding terror and an ache for more! He has managed to be different from others in the dystopian genre so the story is unique and consistently interesting. Highly recommended even if you’re not a fan of the genre!

Peter, Lacey and her family are separately trying to get home to the Florida Keys and finding out just how dangerous it has become to be traveling. Meanwhile Hank and the others are in a real dangerous situation but don't know it yet. The President meanwhile is becoming more unstable and who knows what he'll do next. Another roller coaster, edge of your seat story by Bobby Akart.

Society Collapse...

The story keeps going where it left off on the previous book. Every one face adversaries that are disheartening. A loved one dies trying to save his family. Society breaks down as food and help are scarce. Mike had the serial killer under his nose and will sorta learn the truth at the end.

Very entertaining

This series is becoming more exciting with every book. The Albright’s were born and raised in the Florida Keys but several family members are far from home when the USA is attacked with nuclear weapons. Trouble at home, trouble on the road home. What next? martial law? DONE. Take my gun away? Not on your life dictator pretend president.

Are You Kidding Me?

If you thought the previous books had your attention then you need to buckle your seatbelt and hang on. As this series continues you may want to argue with the author. He definitely holds your interest. The President portrayed in the story seems to have just about the s knowledge of agriculture as the one cu in office. Can't wait to begin #4!
