The Right Fit

Rate this book
This is book #2 in the Boston Series.
Erin Stanley hasn’t dated in years. When she lost the woman she thought was the love of her life, her heart just couldn’t seem to recover. Deciding to focus on building a new business for herself instead of trying to repair her broken heart, she begins to think that love might be the very unexpected thing she needs to finally feel whole again instead of the one thing that will always elude her.
Becca Pratt just got a promotion. She should be happy, but it’s a job she doesn’t want. She takes freelance design jobs on the side, and when an acquaintance reaches out about a friend needing help with some design work for her new business, she takes it as a way to get back to doing what she loves. When she first lays eyes on Erin Stanley, she knows this woman will never be just a client.
The two women attempt to embark on friendship while one of them mends her heart, and the other tries to figure out what she wants to do with her life, where she wants to do it, and who she wants by her side.

'ARC provided by The Author in exchange for a honest review'

**'The goal is not a number of words or perfect sentences, having short paragraphs with persuasive actions makes the story inviting to readers...'

4.5stars!
Written in an engaging and compulsively readable style, 'THE RIGHT FIT' the 2nd installment of this Boston series, takes readers on a reawakening, self-reflecting and rediscovering journey of falling in Love anew -- from the many inner questions that may resolve those thorny personal life & business decisions --- having doubts if they are the right ones because at that moment you never know if they will flourish. Everyone at some point in life knows that our/their decisions do sometimes get disrupted by an array of unfairness and irrationalities which ends in termination -- business decision-making are risky but sometimes rewarding if supported by friends and family.
Readers who are looking for a good book to get into -- only need to look at the cover, browse the blurb and then it will lead to the beginning of a delightful story from the first chapter to the last page.
There are a few things that I like most about this book -- the variance of amiable personalities from each character and the strength, understanding and patience of one of the leading characters.

So to anyone who has kept up with the many different past series by Ms.Pyland knows that she seldom disappoints with her ongoing stories and they also know that her storytelling excels in developing relationships & friendships, beautiful romance, good dialogue and that distinct close-knit grouping. As we see 'THE RIGHT FIT' following this similar style with a bit more elaboration in business start-ups.
Clearly Nicole Pyland is that author that tries to cover all the bases in her writings whether the topic is difficult on finding Love or being alone because with this story, her casual anecdotal style will make for an enjoyable read to everyone.
Another highly recommended 2nd book!

Second love.

Pyland has a way of drawing you into her series. Her characters develop strong platonic friendships that make you interested in every character. And every character is likeable, though I prefer the romantic chemistry in some couples more than others.

The Boston series has been promising so far. The platonic chemistry between the core friend group (i.e. Gretchen, Amanda, Erin, Jamie and Cassie) is fantastic and this book solidifies Erin's friendship with Jamie, with whom she shares a similar experience of grief with. Jamie is a really supportive friend to have and I can't wait for her turn to share her story.

This book is about moving on from a partner who has passed on. And Erin had been grieving over the death of her girlfriend for years, until she meets Becca and decides to give it a try. Grief and second loves are very hard to write and I'm glad Pyland didn't overdo it. I get that Erin needed time and Becca gave her that. And I love how sweet and understanding Becca was the whole time. And it didn't hurt that they have good chemistry.

However this book isn't a complete win for me. For one, Erin and Becca made extremely bold presumptions about each other - Erin's previous relationship and Becca's career choices - at a point in time when I felt wasn't their place to say. And I wasn't entirely comfortable with certain conclusions Erin felt she had to make about her past before she could fully accept Becca into her life.

But overall, this is a good book that I think the vast majority would enjoy. Pyland is a good writer and I'm excited for the rest of the series.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is second in a series. The couple from the first are present and some of the friend group persists and it's pervasive enough that I'd recommend that you read them in order. Just make sure you ignore the covers, because Pyland's covers are horrible.

This was a very smooth romance where the relationship progresses at a steady pace. That Pyland goes that smooth route, sometimes, is one of the reasons I enjoy exploring her stories. Erin is starting to come out of the years-long grief after losing her girlfriend to an accident. She was deeply in love and frankly, it doesn't feel like she knows how to proceed. Which makes sense because Brenna was her first and only love. And by that, I mean sex. Also love, but you can see how she'd be a little at a loss now that she's starting over. Also, she's opening a cat cafe and that's adding to her stress.

Becca is brought on to help Erin with the design of her website and we catch her in transition, too. She does both business consulting and graphic/creative design and loves both aspects of that work. Only, her job is pushing her into just the consulting side and she's not loving that. So she's looking for alternatives and the easiest option to fall into her lap is located in Toronto (which I didn't realize was so close to Boston, but not so close that a new relationship would likely survive the distance).

Anyway, they get along, trying to figure out if they can be together and Becca is more than a little perfect, responding precisely right to give Erin the space she needs while she figures things out. Which I actually didn't really mind because it fit her character well and it didn't make her annoyingly perfect (which was a danger).

My favorite part of the story is Erin's re-evaluation of her relationship with Brenna. Pyland is a good-enough writer that you can kind of see that there were cracks in the foundation that Erin doesn't want to acknowledge (and likely doesn't overtly realize). So I enjoyed the introspection that gave her some clarity for the past, as well as for her future. It was a great way to go, not least because it felt like such an organic part of her background without any push or friction by the author necessary.

Things are a little too perfect for a full five stars. It was smooth enough that I was pulled out of the story a bit here and there with a "this feels too easy". It wasn't a huge drag, though, so still four stars.

A note about Steamy: There are a couple of explicit sex scenes that are long enough to put this in the middle of my steam tolerance. This was pretty well-integrated into the story (see above about Erin's first-and-only) so I liked how it reinforced all the right things.

What’s on the cover? CAT CAFÉ. 😻 Erin Stanley wants to open a cat café!

I don’t think I need to say more about this book other than it’s about building a cat café and it’s written by Nicole Pyland, who never disappoints in chemistry building (always the best, imo) nor plotting.

Erin Stanley (29, lesbian) is opening a cat café and struggling with the shop’s website. Her friend Jamie (lesbian) wants to help, so she hired an acquaintance Becca Pratt (30, lesbian), who is an account manager but does freelance designing. Erin and Becca become fast friends. Soon, Erin finds herself sharing things she never thinks she’d talk about with Becca and the gaping hole that was her dead girlfriend doesn’t hurt as much anymore.

The last name Pratt just reminds me of the design school in NYC. Becca did go to a design school in Manhattan so maybe that’s where the inspiration came from. The Right Fit also reminds me a bit fo Kris Bryant’s Lucky where Serena wants to build a pet inn and she hires designer Gabrielle, but the similarities end there.

Most of Pyland’s characters are cute and quirky. They can be quite rambly sometimes but all of that adds up to the charm. I love how they all love the mundane things in life because that’s also what I love. I think this also has the most nice minor male characters in all of Pyland’s books I’ve read.

Apart from the awesome chemistry and the fact that Pyland always manages to make me miss love, the main characters in her books always go through personal growth, and more often than not, in their professional lives. I love that they’re professional women striving toward having their dream careers. In The Right Fit, Erin is learning to deal with her loss of Brenna (the girlfriend who died in a car accident three years ago) while starting the cat café after quitting her accounting job and Becca is stuck in a well-paid job that is no longer her dream job. The pair help each other find their dreams and futures as they also build a relationship together. It makes me so happy.

If you have previously enjoyed any book by Pyland, this book is for you, but I highly recommend you read Let Go (my review) first to get acquainted with the Boston friend group. Again, I just can’t wait for Jamie’s book! I love her so much and she is this weirdly rich friend who was a player but is also a very supportive and awesome friend. While the characters kept saying that Jamie and Cassie will never be a thing, I really hope they would!

Note: There are two to three harmless jokes throughout the story that may or may not feel inappropriate to some readers.

Nicole writes some of the best series. Boston is becoming a new favorite. Erin and Becca’s story is sweet and tender. Erin is still trying to move on from the list of her girlfriend. Becca wasn’t looking for love but she knew the minute she saw Erin she was hooked. Becca is careful not to push Erin so she takes things slow. Erin begins to see that her last relationship maybe wasn’t everything she thought it was. Their journey together is so special. I really love this book and can’t wait to see who is next in Boston.

This is the second book of Pyland’s Boston series. This is kind of a trademark of Pyland. A group of stories with a core crowd of friends where one book focuses on the life of one individual.

You will always find something unique to each of her stories and she develops interesting characters within her plots. I’ve typically found her characters have great chemistry. Here it felt a bit rough for them though. It is a Pyland story though, so you can expect good dialogue, romance, and—umm, nope I don’t do spoilers. But you know what to expect, methinks. Just sayin’.

This is book number 2 in the Boston series. After reading the first book I thought Erin and Jamie would become a match because they're both dealing with the loss of their girlfriend. But it turned out that Erin and Jamie became good friends because of it. I absolutely loved their blossoming friendship.

Nicole Pyland has the talent to really draw me in and make me feel what I am reading. The nervousness, the goosebumps, the butterflies. I truly felt Erins grieve as well. And how Becca was so lovely and patient and sweet.

Full disclosure, I'm about to read Bk 1. Both these books were on my TBR shelves, I didn't realize they were if the same series. Now, to talk about The Right Fit Bk 2! Erin is still hurting 3 years after her girlfriend Breanna's death. She's starting a Cat Cafe and needs help with her webpage. A friend recommends Becca. When Becca first meets Erin her heart flutters. But she knows Erin's history and is happy to be "just" friends.
This is a gorgeous friends to lovers love story. I LOVE this book! 5 stars!!

I’m shocked to say I didn’t really get on board with this one by Pyland. I normally love her stuff. This one just didn’t hit the mark for me. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the MCs. Also, they kind of just had feelings out of nowhere. They were making plans before anything was even close to being to that point.

It’s still Pyland and I still love her stuff. They can’t all be awesome. The intimate scenes were great once they happened.

Had psyched myself up for the 10% of adverts so when the book ended on the 90% mark I was prepared! I do love her writting but the book is short - less than 200 pages - and is expensive (close to £7) - but I'm enjoying the tales of the friends in Boston... recommended & I'll be reading all 4.

Nicole Pyland’s The Right Fit, the second installment in her Boston series, is a heartfelt exploration of grief, healing, and rediscovering love. The novel centers on Erin Stanley, who, after losing the love of her life, channels her energy into opening a cat café. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she meets Becca Pratt, a freelance designer brought on to help with the café's branding. Their professional collaboration soon blossoms into a deep personal connection, challenging both women to confront their pasts and consider new futures.

Pyland excels in crafting emotionally resonant narratives, and this book is no exception. Erin's struggle with letting go of her deceased partner is portrayed with sensitivity and depth, making her eventual openness to new love both believable and moving. Becca's patience and understanding provide a compelling counterbalance, highlighting the importance of empathy in healing. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable, and their interactions are filled with genuine warmth and humor.

The Boston series is known for its strong ensemble cast, and The Right Fit continues this tradition. The supportive friendships and interconnected lives of the characters add richness to the narrative, creating a sense of community that enhances the central romance. Pyland's attention to detail in developing these relationships ensures that each character feels fully realized and contributes meaningfully to the story.

While the novel deals with themes of loss and moving on, it maintains a hopeful tone throughout. The pacing is deliberate, allowing readers to fully engage with the characters' emotional journeys. Some may find the progression of Erin and Becca's relationship to be slow-burning, but this approach underscores the authenticity of their connection and the care taken in building trust.

In summary, The Right Fit is a touching and well-crafted romance that delves into the complexities of love after loss. Nicole Pyland's nuanced storytelling and relatable characters make this a standout entry in the Boston series, offering readers a satisfying and emotionally rich experience.

We got a brief glimpse of Erin and her background in Let Go, the first book of the Boston series. Definitely read that book first as usual, so you understand who all the secondary characters are in this story. I already knew going into this book that my heart would break for Erin and she would need a very understanding and patient love interest. I am happy to report, she did. It’s a love story, so that is not a spoiler. I must admit, I think I had the same reaction as Becca, when Erin tried to explain the business she was starting but instantly felt bad because you could tell Erin was passionate about. Overall just a sweet story that you yourself need to be patient with as both characters navigate what that lost and seek to find. They just needed the Right Fit, to get them there.

Another hit!

Nicole is one of my favorite romance authors and she never disappoints. I was excited for this one to come out because Erin seemed like such a lovely girl in the previous book and I felt for her because she was also broken. It’s hard to lose a loved one but is specially hard to lose them way before their time. Becca seems a bit pushy at times but you can tell is because she cares a lot. She was definitely what Erin needed to put herself back together. If you love a good romance and enjoy seeing women have each other’s backs you need to read The Right Fit, and honestly any and all of Nicole’s books because they’re not only filled with good love romantic stories but unconditional love and support from great friends

I always enjoy Nicole Pyland's books because she is able to write about strong emotions in a very open and direct manner, so that you can really feel where her MC's are coming from as their relationship develops. No artificial drama, or stupid misunderstandings about nothing, Erin and Becca are adult women taking the time to truly understand one another and what they can be to each other in the future. This is one HEA ending I could believe in 100%.

Very sweet romance

It's a problem when the women is still hung up on her late ex or any ex. It's hard to compare to
Someone when they aren't there to there to realise why they're an ex ...If they died it is even worse. It takes a while to heal from a loss. Thus was a great novel and kept mrvup late quite a fee night's reading about whars5going to happen next.

Nicole Did it Again…

This author writes about people you would like to be friends with. I’ve not known of any of her MC’s that haven’t been wonderful people.

It’s hard to write of huge losses like death, but Nicole Poland does it so naturally. You’ll love this book if you read it…I totally recommend that you do.

“I look at you, and I feel like I’m supposed to be standing here, holding your hand.”

Heroine: Becca “Bex” Pratt
Heroine: Erin Stanley

I really love that Jamie and Erin became friends. I don’t normally like dead significant other trope, but it had an interesting twist to it. Becca was patient and wonderful.

Great.

The Right Fit is another great book by Nicole Pyland. I really enjoyed it. BUT without giving anything away. I thought the business Erin got into was a little weird. It didn’t detract from the quality of the book. Just not a business I can imagine.

Closer to 4.5* for me. It was compelling and I liked each of the MCs. They worked well together and had one of them to drive the relationship early until they were both able to help each other. There were many nice moments that i have read a few times.
