MAT 111 Dong Xoai, Vietnam 1971: Stories from 33 Quebec's Tour of Duty

Rate this book
33 Quebec was his radio call sign. Even with two years of training, he was still green Infantry Lieutenant on his first combat tour in Vietnam. 33 Tango was a Sergeant First Class (E7) with nineteen and one half years of service. He was halfway through his third tour in Vietnam. He would leave Vietnam and retire from the Army at the same time. As part of the five man Mobile Advisory Team (MAT) 111, they formed a two-man unit operating as advisors to the local Regional Force soldiers in the jungles and hamlets of Phuoc Long Province along the Cambodian border during the part of the war know as Vietnamization - the withdrawal of American forces from the war. This collection of stories describes actual events of 33 Quebec's tour of duty. The stories present a level of detail about the various day to day operations of Advisors not often found in books about the Vietnam war. These stories bring new insights to an element of the Vietnam war that few people know.

A very interesting read.

Gave it 5 stars as it was a very informative read. I hope he writes another book about those secret missions!

Many books and movies have been written and produced about the combat seen in Vietnam, but very few stories have been authored about the Mobile Advisory Teams. Author Jim Roberts, a LT on Mobile Advisory Team 111, has done an outstanding job of chronicling the mission of the MAT teams, the relationships they developed and fostered with Regional Forces, and the day-to-day life of the team members of MAT 111 during his tour of duty.

If you are in any way interested in the war in Vietnam, or in military history at all, I highly recommend this book!

Good Book, Iffy Editing.

A really fun read with more proof that "Catch 22" is a real thing! What would seem hard to believe by many, makes perfect sense to anyone who was there.
Jim's tour was really not the norm, but he performed well in spite of all of the unique obstacles thrown at him by "Vietnamization".
I am rating this a 4 instead of a 5 only because of the editing issues
