Rate this book
The fourth installment in the bestselling Cassie Quinn mystery series from Wall Street Journal bestselling author L.T. Ryan & K.M. Rought. A gripping thriller with a touch of the paranormal that will keep you guessing until the last page.

When a friend’s relative passes away, the family suspects foul play, but the evidence doesn’t match the accusation. But in the Big Easy, nothing is as it seems, and Cassie soon discovers there’s more to the story. Deciphering clues no one else can see becomes Cassie’s sole focus.

Cassie fights the tugging at her heartstrings and the raw emotions the case brings up to seek justice for the voice only she can hear.

Not my favorite

The first three books were so good but this one dragged on. It was about patients dying in hospitals and she thought it was a killer ghost. She is investigating it in New Orleans with Jason from the museum and it looks like they are making a love connection but I thought she was doing that with the FBI guy. I really liked the previous ones so I hope the next one is better. This one as good but just not as good as the others. And it was kind of boring too.

I've enjoyed the Cassie Quinn series, including this one. However, Etched in Shadow didn't measure up to the previous books. A bit too plodding and linear, and not as satisfying a wrap up. I would have appreciated an extra fifty pages to find out about Detective Harris' situation.

this is the 4th installment of the Cassie Quinn series and I'm still loving it. Cassie finds herself in New Orleans trying to help a friend and his family deal with a death in his family. When things aren't what they seem and she finds herself helping ghosts...She also finds out that David might not have been the good guy she always thought he was. When Harris agrees to look after her animals she finds out that Harris is shot and someone attacked her while she was in Cassie's home. I seriously LOVE these books. can't wait for book 5 and 6. If you're looking for a good read try these books you won't be disappointed.

A Gripping Heart Stopping Mystery

This series is different than most of Ryan's thriller/mysteries, many of which I've read over the past decade. Ryan draws us into a deeper look at people, the good, the bad, and all sorts of grey in between. The plot is gripping, and the characters, though not the usual over-the-top, almost superhero types we've come to love, are more realistic, although still not quite 🤔 normal. Cassie, with the support of both her old and new families, learns to appreciate her talents and is now ready to use her powers with less fear. With her old partner gone, she has met all sorts of new helpers and partnered up with two totally opposite but equally strong new accomplices. The tale begins with Cassie meeting up with the guy at work she's been romantically interested in for years, coincidentally finding themselves in the same restaurant in another town and state. They come togrther to solve a mystrious death complicated by a ghost, a woman driven mad by loss and love, and facilitated by mundane greed that is part of institutional upper management types, who under the guise of protecting the company or organization, in this case oromote a particularly evil set of leaders. Nothing is who or what it seemed to be at first glance. This is a most enjoyable and thought-provoking story, giving the reader more than just the formulaic mystery/love story wrapped in a bit of the occult style that so many of today's writers, who, crank out a book every few months. This tale isn't about werewolves, vampires, or even witches, but there is something more that captures the imagination.
The characters, the plot, and a new locale provide a background that lends itself to a shift from the super humans to more ancient, mysterious magical time with characters,, the kind told around a campfire, in nursery rhymes and by wandering storytellers in a world gone long long ago.
So, find a comfy spot and lose yourself in some great entertainment, seen through some pretty strange eyes. Ryan leaves us a bit exhausted, yet still seeking more. It is a well written story that invites us to look into deeper mysteries than just solving the immediate murders

Concurrent stories get a bit confusing

There are two concurrent stories running here, one in Savannah and one in New Orleans. They are seemingly unrelated and it is confusing and distracting. There is a shocking beginning to the book and the Savannah storyline which centers around Detective Harris. The New Orleans storyline centers on Cassie. She travels to NOLA for a job for the art gallery. Enroute she meets a mysterious woman on a plane and once here she gets wrapped up in an investigation that starts with a dream/vision she had on the plane.

The two stories are not connected and it is distracting as we keep getting switched from one to the other. Just as one heats up or something significant happens we get bumped back to the other one. It interrupts the flow of each plotline so I had trouble staying in the moment. Cassie’s storyline is more compelling and what I actually wanted to read. The other storyline just seems like it should be in its own book. Based on the way this book ends it appears that is what is going to happen in book five.

We get more character development for Cassie in this book as she begins to adapt even more to her powers with the help of people she meets in NOLA. We also get some personal life developments for her. I wish we’d had more Cassie here and less of the other storyline.

There are several things thrown into this book that appear to be ways to transition to the next book. It’s almost like this is a “how do we get from A to B” book where the answer is just to throw it all at the wall here to see what sticks. It seems to me maybe this Cassie story should have just been a novella and all the Detective Harris centered story should be at the beginning of the next book that it appears is going to carry that story forward.

Well, Shoot.
I've been reading this series and liking it very much. Cassie Quinn is a woman with a lot of intrigue, yet she seems down-to-earth, approachable, and non-judgmental. I very much enjoyed the NOLA portion of this story, although I'm a little confused as to why one specific character from the region was brought in. I can only assume she will play a role in a later novel since she sort of dropped out of this one after a brief appearance. But with or without that character, the mystique of NOLA and the story line created for it was very enjoyable and definitely kept me guessing.

But I'm saddened with the choice of character the authors have decided to do without. Yes, I think I see where they're headed, and that's an interesting decision. At this point, though, I can't imagine the series without this character. I don't want to imagine the series without him. I've enjoyed the Cassie Quinn tales enough that I'll be waiting for the next book to see what goes on now. I can only hope that this will in some way turn out to be a good move for the series.

If you're new to Cassie Quinn and crew, I personally wouldn't recommend starting with this novel. Although it would be possible to enjoy it as a standalone, the reader will understand and appreciate this one better if they know the history the authors have revealed in the previous books. Either way, readers who enjoy mysteries or thrillers with a touch of the paranormal will enjoy this read.

Another 5-star installment in the Cassie Quinn series! Picking up almost immediately where the last book left off, ETCHED IN SHADOW takes Cassie on a new adventure to New Orleans where she stumbles on an unexpected mystery involving someone close to her. It’s one that I found intriguing and honestly didn’t even see the culprit coming (even though I should’ve). The mystery, though it involves a lot of driving from place to place and back and retreading (which isn’t always my favorite), is well-paced with a sad but satisfying conclusion.

I will say though that anyone looking for any answers about David or what happened to him will not get it here. Interestingly, his mystery is B-plotted to the point of being shelved altogether.

Loved this 4th book and I can’t wait for the next one!

Cassie Quinn mysteries keep getting better!

L. T. Ryan and K. M. Rought expertly write this book so compellingly that keeps you guessing what will happen next. Cassie's best friend, Detective David Klein was murdered. Cassie went to New Orleans for business. Detective Adelaide Harris is trying to solve David's murder because he was her partner. The authors take you on two journeys, one with Cassie in New Orleans, and the other with Detective Harris in Savannah. There are twists and surprises in store for you. I highly recommend this book and the series. I look forward to the next book. Happy reading! 😊

Good story

Cassie has to make a work trip to New Orleans which turns out to be a good thing despite the fact that she gets wrapped up in another series of murders. At least this time she gets go investigate with her work crush, Jason, whose cousin may have been one of the victims. I was relieved that it turned out that Jason is from an old New Orleans family who isn't phased at all by Cassie's unique abilities, otherwise it could have been ages before she took a chance on opening up to him.

Etched in Shadow. L.T. Ryan. K.M. Rought

Cassie Quinn has lost a very close and dear friend. David, a detective who believed in her abilities. His murder has led to his partner Detective Harris compelled with a passion to catch the person responsible. Cassie also was left a letter from David which is another mystery. Cassie is also in New Orleans and becomes involved in another string of deaths, possibly murders. Another excellent read in this series!!!Enjoyed immensely!!

Wow

This series just gets better and better. The writing is exceptional. Each major and minor character is fleshed out so you get the feeling they are real people. Love the New Orleans local in this book and hopefully readers will meet these characters again later in the series. The storyline takes many twists and turns leaving the reader wanting to know what has and will happen. Can't wait till the next one.

Cassie Quinn seems to find mysteries everywhere... But she always takes them on

And this one pops up as soon as she gets off the plane in New Orleans. She meets a friend of hers at a museum, and she immediately is taken to see visions of relatives (dead relatives) of others in a hospital. Cassie sees these visions and hopes to solve an age old mystery of so many dying in a hospital 40+ years before. This mystery is one you cannot wait for Cassie to solve!

Like a dog with a bone

One thing about Cassie is her desire to help people's get closure when a family member or friend dies unexpectedly. Show her your pain and she's like a dog with a bone and she's not letting go until she finds out why. It doesn't matter where she's at or who she's with she'll shake whatever she has to in order to get answers. Great job. Thank you. On to the next Cassie adventure.

Cassie Gets Her Mojo

Medium Cassie is in New Orleans and so is her would be love interest. Does not take long for her to get involved in hospital homicides.

Not a bad read. Cassie is growing in confidence. She meets with other psychics. Wish the two voodoo sisters played more of a part in the story but they seem almost like an afterthought. It is not super suspenseful but not a bad read.

Etched in Shadow

Cassie runs into Jason at a bar in New Orleans. She's on a trip for the museum and Jason back home with his family for the funeral of his cousin. They solve the issue of so many unexpected deaths in the area. She finally reads the letter David had left for her and is on his way back to Savannah to help Adelaide solve his murder. Love this author. Well written and easy to read.

This is the closest to a stand alone book yet.

A little slow but still a good story. I like Jason and it looks like they are going to give it shot together. And this is why I don't like cliffhangers. In the last book the mystery of Sarah was solved. Yes, but there was no resolution. Ethan just disappeared? Was Sarah's grave found. How about the rest. I ,thought it would all be resolved in " Etched". I was wrong.

Although we had a lovely time in New Orleans, got to know Jason's most interesting family, and solved a fascinating mystery, I was a bit disappointed with this book. David was pretty much ignored in this one. Some pot stirring happened in Savannah, but left only more questions. I am beginning to think this is one long serial story. Will there be and end of sorts, or just a continuing saga? Time will tell.

This one was a bit slower than previous books. However, it provided time to show growth in Cassie and Jason's relationship. Definitely provided Cassie's character development in a number of ways. Some break through with decision making on Cassie's side. The split between two disparate storylines was a little confusing a few times. It basically moved the story to a new place with lots of changes from previous books.

This one has some surprises!

This book a big breakthrough for Cassie! And in more ways than one! I don't want to give away the surprise, so I can't tell you too much. Cassie goes to New Orleans and has some major revelations - both in her personal life and in learning much more about her abilities. She even finds a new family to be close to.

A Chicago Cliffhanger

Another good story involving a killer ghost. Great story and great character interaction. I sure don't understand how anyone can get as involved in death, ghosts and mystery as does Ms. Quinn. Lots of fun with another cliffhanger at the end. This time in Chicago!?

Entertaining

Delving into the world of fantasy with a touch of thriller is an very enjoyable story. Cassie travels to New Orleans to assist in setting up a display on loan to the museum. Of course Cassie sees ghosts there too. But overhanging all is the murder of her friend David.

Great story

Another great Cassie Quinn novel. I liked the story that takes place in New Orleans with Jason's family. I like the relationship that is blossoming there. I was a bit disappointed that we really didn't get many answers on who killed David but I understand Cassie's need for a distraction by taking on the ghosts of New Orleans. Great read. Highly recommend!

K.M. Rought and L.T.Ryan can keep you riveted.

Cassie and David work well together, him being a police officer and her a psychic. Solving cases of murder Cassie helps them transition and go in peace to their final destination. The how and why sometimes can be dangerous. What happened to David? So many problems lead back to what?

Different, Still Good

Cassie meets Jason far from home where they solve a mystery different than the others Cassie has worked on. Back home, Harris is dealing with Cassie's pets and a murder that hit close to home. These set us up for a story for our next book. Not my favorite, but still entertaining. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Great Characters.

I have read the first four books, but have not done a review on them. I can't put this series down. There is so many things to find out about each character that, I finish one and start the next with anticipation of answers. Ryan and Rought have devised an excellent series.

An angel of death and death of an "angel"

Going to New Orleans for work, Cassie never expected to run into a co-worker (one that she had so far gone on one disastrous date with) and becomes involved in the mystery of his cousin's untimely death in the hospital. In addition, her best friend Detective David was killed back home. Can Cassie help solve both deaths?

Another wonderful read

This series continues to impress. I'm really enjoying the characters and seeing how they progress. I liked seeing Jason in his home environment and how that could influence his relationship with Cassie. This was a wonderful addition to the series. I'm looking forward to the next book.

not as much action

Although there was less action in this book the mystery was still good. Also, what’s this thing with the FBI agent Chris, that I’m guessing Cassie is kind of attracted to because she randomly thinks of him. It was nice to see her and Jason make some progress and Cassie got a little more control over her gifts.
